Music sounds like it is under water

Hi all,
I recently got a new computer... IBM Thinkpad T43 and I installed iTunes 6. Now when I play music it sounds like it is under water or experiencing interference from somewhere. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing but that didn't help.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

I experience the exact problem, but I cant find the topic where there was a solution posted... my ITunes Music very often sounds like under water, static interferences and all the rest of it, but the files are not damaged, they work perfectly well in WMP, WinAmp, RealPlayer...

  • Sounds like it's under water!

I'm trying to clean some traffic noise from behind dialogue that was recorded at a busy intersection.
Using Set Noise Print and Reduce Noise.
I can get the traffic sounds down but the resulting audio sounds tinny and like it's under water.
    Any way around this problem?

That usually happens when you try to remove too much noise relative to the signal you want to retain. When using the Sountrack Pro noise removal tool, try to preview the sound/track in question with the "Noise Only" option enabled. Then, tweak the noise-reduction so that as little (technically none but...) of the original signal that you want to keep is audible. The treble/bass slider can be very effective with dialogue.
Additionally you can lower the threshold and the amount of reduction, but just play around until you get the result which works the best.
However, you can never remove 100% of broadband noise without affecting the original/intended signal. It's more a choice of the end relationship which hopefully is satisfactory.

  • Music Sounds Like the Chip Munks singing

I have an a6537c Pavilion and the music sounds like junk.  Sounds like the Chip Munks.  What can I do?

Well... sounds like you have an audio enhancement enabled. There are a few places where they can be set. Check the following places to turn them off:
    Windows Media Player 11
    1. Play music
    2. Right-click menu bar.
    3. From the menu that opens, select View, Enhancements, and Play Speed.
    4. Adjust the Play Slider to 1.0
    Windows Sound (Realtek codec)
    1. Right click the volume icon next to the time in the taskbar.
    2. Select Sounds.
    3. Select the Playback tab.
    4. Select your default playback device denoted by a green circle with a check (probably Speakers).
    5. With the playback device selected, click the Properties button.
    6. Click the Enhancements tab.
    7. Select Disable all sound effects.
    8. Click OK.
    Hope this helps.

  • No bass-music sounds like a tin can. Cannot adjust sound

I just got a new Ipod. My music sounds terrible. No bass-the music sounds like a tin can and I cannot adjust the sound. HELP

I'm having this problem too. Additionally, sometimes the tinny music comes through the external speaker as well as the headphones. When the sound is 'off', the volume cannot be adjusted.
My nano is more or less possessed, actually. The artwork for my music is absolutely bizarre - not just wrong and mixed with another album cover that I actually have, but completely random artwork.
I can handle the strange and frequently amusing artwork - the inability to adjust my sound and inability to turn off the external speaker is killing me.
The apple store recommended restoring the nano through itunes, which seemed to help the artwork issue, but the speaker/earbud issue just seemed to get progressively worse.
Sorry for the lack of answers - I would love, love, love to fix this and have a properly functioning nano (my classic has been perfect for YEARS). Still, sometimes it seems to help to commiserate.

  • Nano sounds terrible, music sounds like it's in a tunnel!

I loaded my entire I-Tunes library on my new nano, but the music sounds like it is in a tunnel. I have tried 4 different pairs of headphones and completely wiped it out and RE-loaded the library again, with the same results. I tried to change the EQ option, but nothing has helped. Any suggestions or should I go back to the Apple store to get a new one?

had the same problem...seems alot of people are...the headphones may appear to be all the way in but they aren't. i shoved them in and they work fine now

  • Music sounds like a CD

Today, as I was online and listening to music, but the music all of a sudden sounded like a scratched CD that doesn't play. It just happened for a little bit, but I wanted to know if it's normal. I was on Google while I was listening to music.

First check your computer's iTunes library for any content that may seem to have scratchy music. If you find any audio recordings on there that are this way, you could report this problem on your account:
    * Store - View My Account
    * Purchase History
    * Comb through all your purchases for the bunched up titles
    * Press the right arrow next to the billed purchase
    * Click "Report a Problem"
    * Explain the situation when you purchased the music
If it seems to be not from the computer but from the iPhone, two solutions:
    * Reboot the iPhone on a complete shutdown (Hold power and turn off)
    * Go onto iTunes PC when the iPhone is plugged in and disable music sync or uncheck all music.
** iPhone - Music Tab - Sync Music
    or
** Checkbox "Sync checked music and songs" from the PC's iPhone screen
** Go to music on PC iTunes
    ** CTRL+A - Right Click - Uncheck Selection
    * Resync to delete all iPhone music
    * Undo what you did to readd the music

  • After rebooting from Idle State, music sounds like vibrating not normal

After shutting off my computer into the idle state and restarting it (so all the programs that have been open before are in the same state again), iTunes does not play music normal anymore.
The music sounds as if it is cut into many pieces, a long tone would be cut into many very short tones and it sounds like vibrating.
It does not help to exit iTunes (really exit it in the system tray), only reboot helps.
    Any suggestions?

  • Music sound like tape being chewed up

Hi, This problem started today, I've never experienced this but the music that was playing just started sounding really bad (like a really dodgy music download from Limewire,) each time I clicked on another track the sound would get worse some instruments or vocals could be heard in the distance or it would sound really mangled. Don't know what's happened but now it's happening on my iPod (Classic, 80gb) that was connected (to my mac). I restarted the mac and restarted the ipod, all was sounding good for about 15minutes then it started happening again slightly, so I disconnected the iPod and turned off iTunes. Has anyone experienced this or would know what's going on?
    Any help would be appreciated.

I am having a similar problem on Windows XP SP3.  Certain types of files are completely distorted after the upgrade, such as MPEG-1 and 2, like podcasts.  They are unintelligible.  The less compressed files, like AAC and AIFF, seem fine.  I have not found any way to fix the problem yet, figured I would speak up like you.

  • Urgent help! audio is gurgling, like it's under water!

Dear everyone, I've just spent six hours taking animated movie and dubbing in my own voice and music. It worked perfectly: I even synched my words with the way the characters were moving their mouths. Then I moved a clip from the movie, and it bumped into another, which bumped into another, etc. Everything got jumbled and then the audio started gurgling. I've saved since then (oops). Is there any way to get back to the version that was working? Can I search the hard drive for previous versions? Is there any way to get the audio to work normally again, without going back and re-doing the whole movie. HEELLLLPPPPPP!!!!!

    Hello, skybird,
    Welcome to the discussions!
Yes and yes. You should not have to redo your movie.
In the future, make use of the option to 'Lock Audio clip at playhead' under Advanced to be sure that your audio stays with its appropriate video.
To try to retrieve your movie version prior to your last save, have a look a this thread and pay attention to Karl Peterson's instructions regarding finding the movie project files with the ~ .

  • Music sounds like chipmunks

All our music is on a sub drive. We added a new drive for daily use. I moved the iTunes music folder to look at the old file and then imported them to my iTunes Library. Now they are visable and play but the timing is way off.
I tried the error correcting before importing but that seems to be for new CD additions.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe you should define "fuzzy". If it's the same as "distorted", you should check if either the single track meters or the general volume meter in GB show clipping. Generally GB is more tolerant and you only hear it on the mixdown.

  • 3 way calling sound like underwater

I have an office with a 2811 voice gateway and 2960 switch and 5 7942 IP Phones. When the manager is on a 3 way conference call which he originates from his IP phone the callers on the remote end say he sounds like he is under water. They have a full T1 with QoS. The T1 never gets over 60% utilization and there are no errors on the T1.

The issue surfaces when anybody else in the office makes a call from their IP phones while the managers conference call is in place. Then the outside clients will notice that the manager sounds like he is talking under water.
Well now this is a QoS problem. Look at your policy-map; packets are likely being dropped from the LLQ. Remember that the LLQ is policed at the rate specified. It appears you only have enough bandwidth to support three calls; or, the conference call (which is sourced from a different IP than the phone) is not getting placed into the LLQ class.
Be careful to know which codec the calls are at when doing your math. For example, if you have four G.711/722 with 20msec sampling would require at least 352kbps at layer two (assuming MLPPP and RTCP). You can use http://www.bandcalc.com/ to take some of the guess work out of this.
You may want to include the sccp local Loopback0 command to ensure you know which interface confernce calls will be sourced from.

  • Microphone sounds like under water since update

Me and my boyfriend both updated our phones a few months ago and since then when we have calls, people always comment one minute they can hear us, the next it's like we are under water and they can't hear a word, This is extremely annoying as we always have signal and it's only been an issue since update, Anyone else having same problem? We both have z1 compact, was told by Sony to repair software but we will lose stuff if don't save it and can take an hour but why should we have to do this when fault isn't ours?!

  • Music sync to ipod using Itunes 7.3.1 sounds like skipping cd

    Hello,
I have an older 12" PowerBook G4. Since installing the latest Quicktime (7.2) and iTunes(7.3.1) any music that I sync with my iPod sounds like a skipping cd. The music on the iPod sound like a skipping cd for a short time and then just skips to the next song. The next song of course does the same thing. The music sounds fine when played back using iTunes. The music is encoded as a MP3 using VBR. All of the music I have previously encoded (before iTunes 7.3) and put on the iPod continues to play just fine (using the same MP3 and VBR settings). I have tried resetting my iPod, but that did not help. Only having USB 1.1 ports and am not too excited by ideas that involve syncing 40GB of music back onto my iPod.
Any ideas what has changed in the latest software version or what can be done? It would grand to carry some new music to work.

So, the music sounds like a skipping cd and then shortly just skips onto the next song. In Itunes I selected the skipping songs (which happen to play fine in Itunes) and used "Convert Selection to MP3" under the "Advanced" menu, deleted the skipping songs from my iPod and then added the freshly converted versions of the songs back to the iPod. This worked. No skipping and the songs played all of the way though. Why do I have to convert an mp3 created by iTunes to an mp3 using "Convert Selection to MP3" in order to make things work?
I do not think that is the problem.
I use a laptop with limited hard drive space. After iTunes rips my cd's into mp3's I copy the mp3 files to an external hard drive, deleted the songs from iTunes and re-add them from the external hard drive using the "Add to Library" option under "Files". I did this fora couple of cd's. Then I deleted the corresponding songs off of my iPod and re-added them. The songs on the iPod again sound like a skipping cd before just skipping on to the next song.
One more time, I used "Convert Selection to MP3" under the "Advanced" menu to convert the skipping songs. This time I just left them in the iTunes Music folder on the internal hard drive instead moving them to the external hard drive. After deleting and re-adding the songs to my iPod the songs played fine.
I do not use an "iTunes Music folder" on my external hard drive and like to organize my mp3's to my likings.
The question now is, why can't mp3's be moved from the "iTunes Music" folder on the internal disk to an external disk? I do not have enough room on my internal disk to carry around my music and still accomplish work.
I had been using the method described above for years without problems.
