Music stops after a few songs

I have this problem whether I'm streaming from the iPhone, the iPad or the MacBook Pro. After thre or four songs, the music stops (but is still playing on the device). In other words, the sound stops coming through the speakers.
I have ATV audio (for music streaming) hooked up to my A/V receiver via an optical cable.
If this can't be fixed, ATV is useless to me. Suggestions? Thx.

I have same issue to an ATV and a Airport Express. If I activate my iMac speaker the sound is there....disable iMac speaker and no sound to the ATV/Airport Express. I'm using a Apple Extreme.
Clearly an Apple Issue

  • Iphone music stops after a few songs

When I use my iPhone to listen to music it stops after a few songs. Everytime I use it. It is driving me crazy because I use it when I run. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Either you hit PAUSE accidentally every time (which I doubt), or there is sth. wrong with the settings (check them out under Settings > Music). If not, look over the Settings in iTunes, in case sth. you don't want is checked there.  If neither that does work, bring to an Apple Store, and have them look into it.
(In the meanwhile, for you to not stop running, just to change the song, or get the music playing again, ask Siri. At least it won't impair your getting/staying fit!)

  • Music streaming stops after a few songs

I've read posts here on similar Home Sharing issues, here's mine. My iTunes library is on a networked HD, while iTunes itself is on a Windows laptop. The laptop and ATV are connected to the network wirelessly. The ATV usually finds my library, but when streaming music it stops after a couple songs. The only option is to then back out to the menus and reconnect (then, again, it'll play a couple songs and stop). If I connect both the laptop and ATV via ethernet and take it off wireless, will that help? Any other suggestions?

I am hardwired to my network. After an hour or so my ATV Gen 2 stops streaming from my Imac Itunes? Under my computers on the ATV the library disappeared. If I down power the ATV it reappears and will eventually stop streaming and disappears again. I have home sharing turned on and have tried other things people have said on discussions. I have the firewall turned off, I have opened the necessary ports on my router ( D-Link DIR 825), turned off sleep mode on ATV and Imac, turned off screen savers on Imac. I can't understand why it would stop if it can connect and stay connected. It is as if there is something timing out.

  • My music stops after a few minutes

Whenever I try using my itunes or pandora, the music stops after just about 2 minutes...what do i have set wrong?  I just got my apple tv set up

    Howdy, Elizabeth!
I have heard of this issue before, but it usually happens on the 6th generation model.  To resolve the issue on the 6th generation model, make sure you have firmly connected the headphones to the headphone jack on your iPod nano.  The cable should be flush against the iPod with no visible gap.  If this does not work, I have included an article that will help you identify which model you have and then we can troubleshoot further.

  • IPod Classic - Music stops after a few seconds

I have an iPod 160Gb. My problem started a few days ago. After listening to a few seconds the music stops (really stops!). I have to 'click' on play again and it runs for a few seconds more and stops once more.
I've already resetted the iPod three times and so far nothing changed.
I've tried listening to different songs, many of them I've uploaded into the iPod a long time ago and I know there were working before.
Thank you for all the suggestions and ideas.
    David

I have the same problem. And, just as daluan clearly wrote, "I've tried listening to different songs, many of them I've uploaded into the iPod a long time ago and I know there were working before". So it's not a matter of partly downloaded tracks.
As far as I've understood, the problem might be the headphone jack. The iPod is designed to pause when the headphones are removed, so any bad connection in the jack will cause this kind of problem. I will now try to clean my jack and the headphone plug, to see if the problem disappears.

  • Playlist stops after every few songs

I have a playlist that stops playing after playing through four items in the list. I can start it anywhere in the list and sure enough, after playing four selections it stops. Here are some facts about the problem:
    - I have all the check-boxes checked.
    - Playlist length: 600 entries
    - Type: mp3 encoded snippets of Chinese language phrases.
    - File size: ranges from 12KB-18KB per mp3 (<= 1 second)
    - When it stops the progress bar is about at about 2/3, with the left side showing either 0:00 or 0:01 and the right side showing either -0:00 or -0:01 and the pause button is still showing (as though the selection was still playing)
    - It will start playing again if I hit the pause button twice (once to toggle it to pause and then to go back to play)
    - All the files play fine individually
    - Reducing the playlist size doesn't help
    - Moving the files to a new play list doesn't help
    - Deleting and re-adding the files doesn't help
The playlist plays all the way through on my iPod without stopping but maybe every 100 entries or so it will play the next 4-8 without any sound and then continue as normal.
I have over 8000 other mp3 language snippets just like these in other playlists but the files are bigger(from 20KB-60KB)and they play through the whole list just fine. If I put files from the offending list into one of the other lists the other list will often stop playing just after that song. I'm curious whether iTunes has a problem handling really small files because this problem was happening in all my playlists of this type until I sorted them into lists of different file sizes. Now only the list with the smallest files (<20KB) has the problem.
    Can anyone help?

They don't have a clue. I've called a few Apple stores because I have the same problem. Of course no one has heard of this type of problem but is seems fairly common.

  • Ipod Mini starts to sync then stops after a few songs and doesn't sync

It has been about a year since I synced my iPod mini (Generation One) with my G3 PowerBook Pismo. I have been using it with no problems but I wanted to ad new songs. I went to sync it and it wanted to update. I am on the latest iTunes. After the iPod updated it would start to sync get to song 7 and just stop syncing. I have to pull the iPod off and there is nothing on it. I have restored the iPod Mini several time. I even tried going back to the orginal disk. Nothing helps. I tried to repair disk permissions in Disk Utilities and that gets about half way through then has an error. I have to quit this operation and can't repair the permissions. Could these be related. I am not a mac doof but I feel like one.
    Thanks for any help!!!

Try taking it into an Apple store, it sounds like a HD problem, or something. If you've tried to restore it, and that hasn't worked, taking it in is probably your best bet.

  • Why does my iPod Shuffle stop working after a few songs?

I had my iPod Shuffle for about a month now and it's already causing me trouble.
I would play a couple of songs, but when I go to change it, it stops working. I turn it off and on again only to have it take me back to where I started off at (e.g. Let's say I have 100 songs, I start at 50 and I get to 55 before it shuts off. When I turn it back on, it starts at 50 all over again). This process would happen over and over again with seemingly no end.
So my question is, why does my iPod Shuffle stop working after a few songs and how can I fix it?
I already tried using the iTunes troubleshooting guide, but nothing worked.
    Details -
    4th Generation
I only use it at the gym or when I'm running
I've only used the Apple products that came with it so far
           (e.g. charger, headphones, etc.)
    881 MB are still left
Music stops randomly, no common number or pattern

I had the same problem, I purchased a new ipod shuffle, followed the instructions but it would stop after a few songs and I would have to shut it off, wait and turn it back on and it would go back to the same song and then once again, after a few songs it would shut off. I returned the ipod and got another one, same thing happened. This is how I resolved the issue.
    1. open itunes, make sure its up to date, then connect your shuffle to your pc
2.on the left of the itunes window, select your ipod, then at the top select music then check the sync box and select "selected playlists"
3.then go back and click on your ipod on the left, a message will appear just select apply
all of your music should be emptied from your ipod.
4.delete all of your playlists on the left, this will not delete anything from your library. Delete the "purchased" playlist under itunes store on the left as well, once again this will not delete anything from your library
5.There should be an arrow just in front of your ipod, click on this arrow and you should see your music file for the ipod appear, this should be the only file that you see, everything else should be deleted.
    6. go to your music library and check only the songs that you want to load into your ipod. Double click on each song to make sure that they all play.
If you find a song that does not play you should be asked to authorize it, don't waste your time that did not solve the issue for me, instead cancel to authorize the song and then delete the song and move it to recycle bin. Once the song is deleted a cloud should appear, click on the cloud and download the song again, when done, make sure the song plays and that it is checked.
7.After you have made sure that all of the songs play and are checked, click on your ipod once more, located to the left, check the box  "sync only checked songs" then from the top select music. In the music window select "sync music' and then select "entire music Library"
    8. Go back to the left and click on the arrow in front of your ipod, you should see the music file, click on the music file and you should see all of your music being loaded to your ipod.
    9. When all of the music is done loading, eject your ipod by clicking on the arrow located after the battery symbol where your ipod appears on the left
    10. Turn on your ipod and scroll through your songs to make sure that the problem is resolved.
Not sure if all of this was necessary but it worked for me.

  • Airplay audio from iPhone 4's iPod app stops working after a few songs

I have problems with airplaying songs from my iPhone 4 to my Apple tv.
Everything works fine but after a few songs it suddenly stops and I'm not able to switch it back on. After a few hours I'm able to airplay again but only a few songs till the problem reapears.
Streaming music from my iMac to Apple tv works flawless over wifi so it shouldn't be a network problem.

Have a look at the troubleshooting section of this article which may help

  • ITunes stops playing after a few songs

I am running iTunes on a Macbook Air, the music is stored on a time capsule. I also run the Remote App on the iPad.
I play back songs through the Airport Express and after a few songs, it stops playing (always when a song is over - NEVER during a song). I hit play to start it again but the busy icon shows for a bit and nothing happens.
When I switch the audio output back to "computer" it starts playing, when I switch back to the airport express then, the playback works again - until it eventually stops again.
The Airport Express doesn't seem to be an issue, as we received a NEW one yesterday with the same thing happening.

    Hi jakeloveslucy
Thanks for your feedback. However, just to clarify: my iTunes Library is not stored on my TC itself, yet on a separate HD that is USB'd to the TC.
Also I wonder where it's stated that a iTunes Library is 'meant' to be stored locally.
    Regards.

  • My audio stops outputting after a few songs in a playlist - itunes says its still playing, stopping and starting track recommences audio output.  Mac book Pro Lion 16gb ram

My audio stops outputting after a few songs in a playlist - itunes says its still playing, stopping and starting track recommences audio output.  Mac book Pro Lion 16gb ram.  Can be any song, any time, same song will play if I select it again.  Bit of a bummer itunes is the main thing I use (macbook pro jukebox).

Most likely culprit is your Lacie drives which are notorious for flaky power supplies which cause just the sort of erratic behaviour that you describe. Have had similar issues myself. Lacie has been good about replacing my power converter-- twice. If you have seven of them, good luck finding the bad one or more. Like I said, the behaviour is erratic. Sometimes it'll work sometimes not. I can't comment on Samsung drives because I've never used them and have never heard anything about them. Same with Softraid. Why not just use Disk Utility. Sounds like you're ready for an external hardware raid. This will be much faster, much more reliable, and may even be cheaper than seven firewire drives. Check out G Tech, and Maxx Digital for starters.
    Best of luck

  • TS1717 itunes song preview stops after a few seconds---solution?

itunes song preview stops after a few seconds--need a solution??
    Thanks

    1. Use these DNS: Google and Verizon DNS
    Primary DNS = 8.8.8.8 Secondary DNS = 4.2.2.1
    2. Then apply these instructions:
    Windows XP
On the Start menu, click Run.
In the Open field type cmd and click OK.
In the resulting window, type ipconfig /flushdns and press Return(Enter) on the keyboard.
You should see a message that the DNS Resolver Cache has been successfully flushed.
    Windows Vista and Windows 7
On the Start menu, point to All Programs > Accessories and then right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as Administrator from the shortcut menu. If Windows needs your permission to continue, click Continue.
In the resulting window, type ipconfig /flushdns and press Return(Enter) on the keyboard.
You should see a message that the DNS Resolver Cache has been successfully flushed.
Your problem should be 100% solved

  • I made a DVD with photo's and music. On my Powerbook G4 he plays perfect. But after burning the project on my LaCie d2 lightscribe and show the project on my TV than after 10 min. the music stops for a few seconds.

I made a DVD with photo's and music. On my Powerbook G4 he plays perfect. But after burning the project on my LaCie d2 lightscribe and showing the project on my TV than: after 10 min. the music stops for a few seconds. On the screen of the DVD-player I can see that after the word 'play' the clock starts again with counting the time. I tried everything: * burning slow. * all programs stopped, except iDVD. * all other apparature uncoupled. Is this a problem of my iDVD-program or my LaCie burner?

mishmumken is correct about the 99 slides.  There's an 99 chapter limit in each slideshow for DVDs and each photo is considered a chapter.  iDVD gets around that by renaming slide 100 back to 1 and goes on.
The pause can be minimized (but not eliminated) by burning to disk at the slowest speed available: usually 4x or 2x.  Save the project to disk (File ➙ Save to Disk menu option) and play the disk image with DVD player to check out the transition at 99 and 198.  Then burn the disk image to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed possible.  Also use top quality media: Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • HT1923 preview song stops after a few seconds

the preview song stops after a few seconds, any ideas on how to correct?

Perhaps try resetting your iTunes Store Cache.
Go "Edit > Preferences". In the Advanced tab, click the "Reset cache" button shown in the following screenshot:
    ... and then click OK.
Restart your iTunes, and head back to the Store. Are you getting full previews now?
(Doesn't work for everyone, but does no harm to check.)

  • My iPod shuffle stops playing after a few songs, then it won't start again.

My iPod shuffle will stop playing after a few songs which is very frustrating while out walking.  I end up having to shut it off for about a minute or two and then turn it back on.  Sometimes it will start playing again, but it will start playing the same songs over again.  I can't go forward or go back.  When I try to skip a song, all I get is dead air.  I took it back to an Apple store and they replaced it free of charge; which I thought was great... that is until the new iPod started doing the exact same thing.  I've downloaded songs from the iTunes store as well as songs off of my personal CD's.  I've tried deleting all the songs and re-installing them... nothing seems to solve this problem.  I know it only costs $50; but if Apple can't get a $50 item to work; why in the world would I want to invest more money in an Apple product?  It's a good thing this was a gift.... I'm just not happy with this product and there doesn't seem to be a good explanation for this.

I Just ran into the same issue:
My iPod shuffle 4th gen would just stop playing, and I had to turn it off, wait 10 secs and the turn it back on.
Then it would get stuck at the same place.
I Even exchanged the iPod for a new one since I had just bought it.
re-synced my playlist and same issue!
did a restore as described above - same issue.
    Solution in my case:
one of the songs in my playlist seems was "corrupt". Even trying to play the song in iTunes on the PC did not work, kept getting the message "This computer is not authorized ....", even though the computer is authorized.
So somehow that song being on the shuffle crashes it.
After I removed that song from the playlist and synced again, the problem was resolved!
So try to play all the songs that you want to sync to your shuffle on your computer, maybe you have one song that was not downloaded properly or is otherwise corrupt.
    - Deleted the song from the local library
    - re-downloaded the song from iTunes store
    - now it was playing fine on the PC in iTunes
    - re-added it to the playlist, re-synced iPod shuffle
all is working fine now, shuffle no longer freezes.
    hope that helps someone else....
