Music Store Error Message

ANYTHING I click on in the itunes Music Store gives me an error message that reads "We could not complete your music store request. There is not enough memory available. There was an error in the Music Store." Is anyone else getting this message? What does it mean?

first let's explicitly check on your precise itunes version number. go "help > about itunes", and wait for the number to scroll up from the bottom of the screen. for example, mine says "itunes 6.0.5.20".
if you've got an itunes 5.0.1.4, try upgrading to a higher version like 6.0.5.20. here's a link through to that installer:

  • Cannot access music store - error message 404

ok- i guess i'm looking for an explanation more than a solution. while trying to download a song (as usual) this morning i received an error message for the first time ever. "cannot access music store. please try again later. 404" ... for 2 hours i searched the net for a solution, checked my firewall, even joined this forum. right before posting this message again, i tried to download the song so i'd be able to explain the error message in this posting. but itunes decided to work.
my question-- does itunes sometimes time out because of heavy traffic? will this problem lessen if i upgrade to a newer version? (btw- how do i do that? i checked off "dont remind me again" when the pesky reminder would pop up... now i want to upgrade.)

Hi - I have the same problem. With the additional wrinkle that I can't close iTunes when it can't connect to the Music store. I have to use Task Manager to kill it. I am totally fed up with Apple for their lack of support on this. However, I have had one thought though: I notice that iTunes registers itself with Windows Firewall as an exceptional program that is allowed to receive incoming network connections. I don't object to that - but the thing is I am using a network modem which has its own built-in firewall. If iTunes has to be able to receive incoming network connections, don't I have to configure the network modem's firewall to treat it as an exception too? I have just done a search for "iTunes Firewall" in Google and it came up with loads of promising looking stuff. I will investigate further.

  • "iTunes could not connect to the Music Store" Error Message

    Hello all,
I finally got my script running correctly and I can see the front page of my iTunesU site(Yay!). But I am getting an irritating error message, and what is unusual are the circumstances under which I see the error message and the circumstances under which I do NOT see the error message. Allow me to elaborate.
    Scenario #1
I have iTunes open on my computer. I go to the login page I created on my school's website and login. I watch as the "Music Store" page on iTunes gives way to the front page of my iTunesU site. Perfection! This is the behavior I want!
    Scenario #2
I DO NOT have iTunes open on my computer. I go to the login page I created on my school's website and login. I watch as iTunes begins to open and then spits out this error message:
"iTunes could not connect to the Music Store. An unknown error occurred. Make sure your network connection is active and try again."
There is also an error number attached to the error message but it changes from time to time with no explanation. Here is the strange part. If I just hit "OK" on the error message my iTunesU site opens fine.
I've tried this on my home and work computers and a friend's computer and the behavior is the same. Moreover I surfed over to the Stanford iTunesU login page: http://itunes.stanford.edu/ and I get the same behavior(which pretty much rules out in my mind that it is a problem with my script).
I guess it isn't a huge deal. Worse comes to worse we can tell the students and faculty, if you see an error message from iTunes just hit "OK". But I'm rolling out this slick new iTunesU site and this error message is like a scratch in the paint job. Plus my boss is looking over my shoulder like "what's that error?" and it is starting to detract from the computer whiz kid image I've worked so hard to cultivate
    My possible suspects are:
iTunes - (Went over to the iTunes discussion board and a lot of people report similar error messages when trying to get into the Music Store but I couldn't find anyone who said hitting "OK" made it possible to proceed)
My script -(seems unlikely since Stanford has the same problem)
The configuration on the computers I've tested it on - (But I've tested it on three different computers!)
iTunesU - If this is the problem I'm hoping you people can help me.
So has anyone else experienced this?
Try to login into your iTunesU page with and without iTunes already open. See any error messages or weird behavior?
Try the same thing on Stanford's site: http://itunes.stanford.edu/
If you can repeat my result then post it here so Apple will know this is an issue. If you can't repeat my result then post it here so that I might know I need to look elsewhere for the problem.
Thank you for your kind attention.

I'm seeing this error on some, but not all, of my Windows XP machines. On my personal development XP box, I see this error if iTunes is closed when I try and access iTunes U via my transfer script or Stanford's.
"iTunes could not connect to the Music Store. The network connection was terminated unexpectedly. Make sure your network connection is active and try again."
The errors occured in IE 7 Beta, Firefox 1.5.x, and Firefox 2 Beta. In each case, iTunes U loaded after I clicked the 'ok' button in iTunes. I did notice that in Firefox's case an additional pop-up window appeared that asked whether or not I had iTunes; when I selected that I do have itunes, it transfered me to iTunes but generated the error.
After getting these errors on my Windows XP machine, I tried it on two different lab machines running Windows XP, and didn't get the error message once -- I tried it in IE 6, Firefox 1.0.x and Firefox 1.5.x and they all worked. It even worked with IE 7 Beta and Vista Beta.
Based on this, I think the problem must lie in how Windows registered iTunes, and the handshake just isn't happening properly.

  • Music store error message- please help!

I've read previous posts regarding this error- just want to make sure I have the same problem before I uninstall the software. I am able to access the music store, but as soon as I hit the search or power search mode, I receive the error message " Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close, sorry for the inconvenience." I am having difficulty in purchasing songs also. If I uninstall/reinstall will I lose the songs on my ipod?

i've been tracking the "search crash" version of this error message.
can you doublecheck for us your precise itunes version number? go "help > about itunes" and wait for the version to scroll up from the top. for example, mine says "itunes 6.0.5.20".
if you've got a 5.0.1.4, the standard workaround that has been helping folks has been to upgrade to a higher version (6.0.4.2 or 6.0.5.20).
in the normal course of events, an itunes upgrade or uninstall/reinstall does not affect your music files or library. i've done about 10 upgrades and 3 uninstall/reinstalls without losing a song or a playlist.
that being said, though, it's still wise to have backups in event of disasters. this Buegie post should be of some help with that:

  • Cannot locate original music file error message???

cannot locate original music file error message ??? i transferred to a new laptop then some of my music collection seems to get this message .

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • ITunes could not connect to the iTunes Store "Error Message"

I recently added iTunes 7.6 to my Windows XP operating system at the same time when I added an *Ion USB Turntable (TTUSB).* I currently have the 80G iPod with the larger video screen. I added in the supplied software of the EZ Vinyl Converter. The software reads from Gracenote and imports into iTunes okay. But now my PC cannot access the iTunes store to buy songs, read the tracks on the discs, or display new album artwork. The diagnostic read the network connectivety test, the CD/DVD drive, and iPod connectivity tests all read okay. I followed the directions on checking the network settings under the Internet Options Tool "Connections" Lan Settings and the Automatic detection and still no dice. All I get is "Make sure your network is active."

  • ITunes can't connect to Music Store - error 502

Since updating to iTunes version 7.1.1, I haven't been able to connect to the Music store at all. I've sent messages to Apple twice stating my problem, but I haven't gotten a response at all. My connection, of course, is fine, but I can't connect. The message I get is "iTunes cannot connect to the Music Store. An unknown error occurred (error 502). Please check to make sure your network connection is working and try again."
    Anybody have any answers?

You may want to consider performing the following to be sure no software is conflicting with iTunes:
1.) Disable all anti-virus software you may have running
2.) Disable all firewall software you may have running
3.) Disable all web acceleration software you may have running
4.) If you are connected to the internet via an internet router, please disconnect it and connect directly via your broadband modem

  • ITunes Store - ERROR MESSAGE for the past 2 days

I've been trying to access the iTunes Store to continue buying music and to redeem a few gift cards, but every time I click on "Redeem" or "Purchase", I receive this error message: "We could not complete your iTunes store Request. All I can do is listen to the music and search. Can you please fix this? I even downloaded the latest version of iTunes and the same message still appears. I've used this laptop for more than a year to purchase music and never had any issues. I believe the error is on your end - not mine.
