Music streaming using Apple TV

I have a new "man pit" (room in the new extension with ps3, xbox, etc. ) and I have a new Denon amp. At the moment I am streaming the music using airplay and apple remote on my iPad . I can tell the sound quality is not that good. Will an Apple TV allow me to stream the music at the original bit rate in iTunes to the Apple TV and the Denon amp? I presume that I can also use the remote I am currently using?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
I haven't noticed any difference between AirPlay audio and that played from the Apple TV. And while I suspect it's not like true HD audio (I personally can't tell), I would say that if you think it sounds bad that something is wrong.
The Apple TV outputs 16 bit audio at 48 KHz.

  • Music streaming via Apple TV

While using my Apple tv to stream music, it all the time jumps back to the internal speakers of my Mac book. Anyone knows how to solve this?

    Hi Jouk,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article has steps to try if you are seeing issues with AirPlay between your computer and Apple TV:
iTunes: Troubleshooting AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5209
    Troubleshooting performance issues
    Wi-Fi Connection
If you are experiencing intermittent playback or significant network lag with AirPlay, it could be due to a weak Wi-Fi connection, interference, or the distance between the Wi-Fi router and your AirPlay-enabled device.
Ensure that other devices aren't trying to stream to the same Apple TV at the same time.
Ensure that your Wi-Fi router is set up with the recommended settings for the best performance.
Certain external devices, such as microwave ovens and baby monitors, may interfere with a Wi-Fi network. Try moving or disabling these devices.
If your wireless and wired networks are the same, try connecting your Apple TV to the router via Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi.
Use the Wi-Fi network troubleshooting guide to resolve interference and other issues.

Home Sharing streams music from iTunes on a Mac or PC to Apple TV, an iPad, iPhone, etc.
The source for Home Sharing is not an iPad.

  • Playback of iTunes Contents Stored in iMac mid-2010 (upgraded to Mountain Lion) using Apple TV

I am not 100% certain that upgrading to ML is giving me issues with Apple TV playback (not mirroring) but I AM having trouble with playback of music and movie stored in iTunes/iMac mid-2010.
I have an iMac mid-2010, 3rd generation Apple TV, cable broadband connection, and linksys wireless router.
Ever since I upgraded my iMac from snow leopard to ML (and yes I followed all directions and updated my apple TV as well to the latest software version), Apple TV takes as long a 5 to 10 minutes to play a song in my iTunes/iMac.
I thought it was the broadband or wi-fi connection so I tried netflix streaming using apple TV and it was fine.
Playback of movies stored in iTune/iac are also affected and it takes a long time to load as well.
In addition, once the content is playing, there's lagging/buffering and the playback stalls.
What's going on?  Is it the speed of the wi-fi or broadband as suggested by Apple troubleshooting tip and this forum?  The only thing that has changed from the time that playback of itunes contents using apple TV was working vs. not is the upgrade to ML.
Anyone else experiencing this problem?  Recommendations?

So by switching your router to one that was WiFi "N" allowed you to obtain higher speed and allowed you stream from your computer to your apple TV/TV without any issues
My Current Router is an older Wireless G Router but I have no issues at all with this router it works with all my devices at home and I havent had any problems what so ever. However my room is the only room in the house in which I stream wirelessly to my TV most other devices are just tablets and other laptops that are connected to the network.
Also I was wondering if this is more of a networking issue rather than a graphics card or OS issue? Im not even sure where this falls in place.
Also I would just like to thank you Gnarlodious for your input

  • Using Apple TV as an iPod

I have been reading about the idea of Apple TV as a big iPod. Can you compose an iTunes playlist of music by using Apple TV or must you only use playlists composed on your computer? The issue is that my computer will be upstairs and Apple TV, stereo, TV etc. will all be downstairs. I would like on-the-go playlist functionality but have never seen it discussed. Is it possible? Thanks

Thanks. Too bad. It seems that would be a great way to have a party as I do with my iPod. Playlists do not always serve the mood of the party at certain times. Any suggestions?

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Restart your router.
Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore)

  • How can I play music from the icloud using apple tv (2) controled by remote app  on iphone so the TV is switched off but stereo on

I was blown away when I started using the new remote app with Apple tv to play music from my iMac on my best music speakers in the living room!!!  However there are still 2 things required to make things ultra simple:
1 Not to have my iMac switched on to have to stream music to the Apple tv (I've now started using iTunes Match which has almost fixed this one)
2 Not have to have my TV switched on to control my amplifier through the apple tv.  (I can do this using the remote app on the iphone but only for music streaming from my iMac it wont work for music I have in iCloud, apart from music now playing.  I can't search/browse any other music)
If this is fixed it will be absolutely awesome!!! As my apple tv will replace all the HIFI separates apart form my amplifier and I can control what music my amp plays using the best user interface in the world my iphone/ipad
    Dylan

Hi, I don't have this bug. I can play music through my apple tv with the TV switched off and use the apple remote app to control the apple tv.
    My problem involves:
icloud music ----> broadband router ----> apple tv ---->music amplifier.  Using the remote app on the iphone to control whats playing.  This almost works but in the remote app you can only see the currently playing song, you can't search/browse your music in the icloud (itunes match).
    What does work is:
iMac-itunes music ----> apple tv ---->music amplifier controlled by the remote app in the iphone with teh tv off.  I can view my itunes library with the tv off using the iphone remote app. I would like to do this but using my music in iCloud. That would be awesome!!!

  • Using Apple TV as a multi-room music server

I am trying to decide whether Apple TV is a good choice for use as a multi room wireless music server. I would rather use Apple TV than say Sonos because I like Apple TV's video capabilities. My decision is going to be largely based on Apple TV's/iTunes/Airtunes compatibility with my current 2 zone home theater system.
Right now the AV/wireless system looks like this:
-2 Zone Denon AV receiver wired to wall mounted speakers in the living room and kitchen/patio.
-Airport Extreme wired into cable modem
-Wall mounted speakers upstairs in bedroom (not connected to any amplifier)
    Ideally I want to add
-Apple TV wired to Denon receiver/TV w/ hdmi cable
-inexpensive AV receiver/amp in bedroom to power wall mounted speakers
-Airport Express jacked into receiver to stream iTunes library from Apple TV
    -Everything controlled with iPhone
    Questions:
    1. Will this work?
    2. Any idea what my best options for an inexpensive Airtunes friendly amp/receiver are?

BorrachoPix, An excellemt thread. Always good to know others doing or intending to set up same similar systems. So many options these days it takes a fair while going through them all. I ruled out Squeezebox as not being user friendly enough and was going the Sonos route untill Apple released the itouch remote app which changed everything and gave me an excuse to get an itouch into the bargin as well !!!!!
Have you though of using a pair of Active speakers instead of Amp and Speakers in the bedroom. Maybe the AudioEngine A2 or A5 Speakers.
Jask, I use to have the 3801 before changing to the 2807. Will probably do as you suggest and go optical and component video to the amp keeping the HDMI slots for SkyHD and the DVD player. I always find the Denon set up menu a bit of a nightmare but usually get there in the end.
Perhaps I should be thinking about an iMac for next year as well to complete the circle......just not sure I can justify the expense.

  • Can I use Apple TV (version 3 with IOS 5.1) Airplay to simultaneously to stream audio to another Apple TV without using itunes on my PC?

I have 2 Apple TV's version 3 with IOS 5.1 and would like them both to play the same music through Match simultaneousy but without having to use iTunes on my PC.
It seems I can only select one of them at a time for audio output, is there a way to make them both play at the same time?

    tammersalem wrote:) <-HDMI-> (HDTV)
    My main concerns are:
-If I use iTunes on my main computer, will it then be available to Apple TV?
-If I use Apple TV to download will it be available to my Main computer?
-Can the Apple TV use a media server for storage over LAN (using NTFS Samab or otherwise)?
Basically iTunes feeds AppleTv with media either syncing (copying to it) or streaming live.
Media must be compatible with AppleTV.
AppleTV requires a proper iTunes instance running - it cannot access a NAS directly.
If you store media in a folder on a NAS and it's part of the computer iTunes library (just stored on the NAS vs internal/external drive), then when running iTunes makes this content available to AppleTV.
    Data will travel:
NAS > network > iTunes > network to AppleTV
As the path is potentially slower than internal/external attached drive > iTunes > network > AppleTV, it may or may not work robustly for streaming.
If AppleTv is set to sync (it can also stream in this mode), when you purchase direct on AppleTV, the media should sync back to where the itunes library is stored (via iTunes) to keep things in sync and to allow you to backup the media.
You cannot drag/drop media to/from AppleTv across the network, nor can it directly access storage itself - iTunes is an essential cog in the wheel.
The majority of commercial 'in-built iTunes media servers' will not work directly with AppleTV as it has to be 'paired' with iTunes by entering a numerical code in iTunes and does not simply see 'shared libraries'.

  • Can I use apple tv- connected to 3x airports, using iCloud match to access my music?

I am trying to find a way to store all my music in one place, and then be able to access that music wirelessly around the house, and have the same music played at several loudspeakers round the house.  Is this possible?!  I spoke to someone from apple and they were unsure.  They suggested-
    All music on iCloud
Apple TV- to use as an access point to the music
Airports, 1 at each set of speakers
Does anyone have a similar set ups or can anyone recommend a way to make this work if this will not work?
    Many thanks in advance!!!

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Unfortunately this is not possible with the Apple TV. It is not capable of streaming audio to the airport express or any other Wi-Fi audio hardware.
May I suggest you use something like the Mac mini for this setup, the Mac mini will stream to multiple AirPort Expresses in exactly the way that you want. All your music can be stored on the Mac mini or on external drives attached to it, or indeed if you wish using iTunes match.

  • Help using apple tv for music

    hi
i want to have this setup:
macbook conected to a hard drive of 2tb with all my music whoch is in aiff, i want to stream or connect that to an apple tv connected a bit far from it, to my audio system and tv, how does the macbook connect or stream music to the apple tv? can it be done wired? or wireless? or both?
thanks a lot for your help

can be done either wired or wireless
    external USB Drive(s) <-USB-> MacBook <-Ethernet or wireless N, G-> router <-ethernet or wireless N, G-> AppleTV <-HDMI or Component + Optical and/or RCA audio cables-> A/V Receiver <-A/V Receiver -> TV + Speakers
*Put All Your Content on the External Drives*
either change the default location of your iTunes Library to the 2TB drive (Edit > Preferences > Advanced > General) and put all your content in this new location OR in iTunes when you add items to your iTunes library make sure you turn OFF *"copy items to iTunes folder when adding to iTunes Library"* in *Preferences > Advanced* and add your conten that way... the second option is good if you have multiple drives OR you could use a combination of the two
    *Set up Streaming*
set the appleTV to link to the iTunes on the MB but choose "custom sync" in iTunes Prefs (click on appleTV icon under "devices" in iTunes to see the prefs)
in the tabs to set up syncing don't sync anything and make sure in the appleTV setting in iTunes you choose to "show unsynced items on appleTV"... this will display everything in iTunes on the appleTV but not sync it... when you click on it from the appleTV it will stream any content not on the appleTV.
