Music streaming via Apple TV

While using my Apple tv to stream music, it all the time jumps back to the internal speakers of my Mac book. Anyone knows how to solve this?

Hi Jouk,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article has steps to try if you are seeing issues with AirPlay between your computer and Apple TV:

Wi-Fi Connection
If you are experiencing intermittent playback or significant network lag with AirPlay, it could be due to a weak Wi-Fi connection, interference, or the distance between the Wi-Fi router and your AirPlay-enabled device.
Ensure that other devices aren't trying to stream to the same Apple TV at the same time.
Ensure that your Wi-Fi router is set up with the recommended settings for the best performance.
Certain external devices, such as microwave ovens and baby monitors, may interfere with a Wi-Fi network. Try moving or disabling these devices.
If your wireless and wired networks are the same, try connecting your Apple TV to the router via Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi.
Use the Wi-Fi network troubleshooting guide to resolve interference and other issues.
Cheers,
- Ari

  • Photo stream via apple tv

can anyone help?  I want to look at selected photos through my Apple TV and create a slide show.  I have a step by step manual on how do do this.  I followed the steps after deciding to set this up via the computer app and home sharing method.  Itunes is up to date, and open and on same network as my Apple tv but for some reason my library will not load.
iI then decided to switch my photo stream on, on my iPhone 5 and see if I could stream the photos i want, this has not worked either I get a message that there is no activity and a 0 shows next to my photo stream on the iCloud app on my Apple tv.
I am extremely fed up now as I have wasted so much time trying to sort this out.  Is my apple TV box broken or is it just a load of rubbish and does not do as Apple advertise it to do.
HAs has anyone else experienced the same problem?

Have you deleted these photos from your camera roll or from the photo stream album. You need to delete them from the photo stream album for them to disappear from the Apple TV. However if you have opted to use the new iCloud photos on your mobile device it's all a bit complicated during the transition period (indeed some go so far as to describe it as a mess )
iCloud photos and photo stream are different things. If you are using iCloud photos, new photos will be added to iCloud photos which behind the scenes will also be added to photo stream, however when you delete photos from iCloud photos they aren't automatically deleted from photo stream. But you can do this from your Apple TV.

  • Music streaming using Apple TV

I have a new "man pit" (room in the new extension with ps3, xbox, etc. ) and I have a new Denon amp. At the moment I am streaming the music using airplay and apple remote on my iPad . I can tell the sound quality is not that good. Will an Apple TV allow me to stream the music at the original bit rate in iTunes to the Apple TV and the Denon amp? I presume that I can also use the remote I am currently using?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
I haven't noticed any difference between AirPlay audio and that played from the Apple TV. And while I suspect it's not like true HD audio (I personally can't tell), I would say that if you think it sounds bad that something is wrong.
The Apple TV outputs 16 bit audio at 48 KHz.

  • Is it possible to use airtunes to play music streamed via safari

I have recently set up my Mac so I can play music from iTunes through my stereo in my lounge using Airtunes.
I would like to be able to play music via Airtunes when streaming it over the internet (eg BBC iPlayer or an internet radio station).
Is there a way this can be done?

    Hi,
I'm pretty sure you can't do it with the basic OS X software.
You can do it with some third-party software though:

I don't have airtunes so I am speaking from a theory perspective. It looks like airtunes works with itunes and I know many streaming stations can also be played through itunes so I would think it could be done at least to some extent. You might have to save a link to the stream and then open the link file in itunes to get it to add it to your list (I have done this with a streaming station).
For other stations I don't know if you could select airtunes as a sound output option for general computer sound output in the sound control panel.

  • Music streaming via AEBS

I try to stream music via the AEBS to the AX.
If I use a NO cable connection everything is working fine, but when iMac and AEBS are connected with a network cable no music will be streamed to the AX.
Normally it should be working, to use the new 802.11n standard with an "old" iMac (I know that the AX does't support the "n" standard).
    The question is:
If I use 2 AEBS (1st one is connected with a network cable to the iMac - and the 2nd one is the MUSIC client) will it be possible?
    Thanks for help!
      Mac OS X (10.4.9)

If I use a NO cable connection everything is working fine, but when iMac and AEBS are connected with a network cable no music will be streamed to the AX.
Using the AirPort Utility, in Manual setup, connect to the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), and then, make this change...
    Music tab
    - Enable AirTunes over Ethernet (checked)
If I use 2 AEBS (1st one is connected with a network cable to the iMac - and the 2nd one is the MUSIC client) will it be possible?
No, the AEBSs do not provide audio output.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
As far as I know you can't, which sort of makes sense, it seems logical to pause whatever you are doing while you take a phone call, which after all is the primary function of a phone.

  • Can i stream my ipod display on LED tv via apple TV ?

Can i stream my ipod display on LED tv via apple TV ?
I tried this using "apple to hdmi" cable . I am able to see the display for IPAD but i am not able to see the display for ipod touch .. facetime, playing videos also didnot stream the display on tv.So planning to buy apple TV .
Please let me know if i can stream my ipod touch 4th generation display on my LED TV ?

The 4G iPod does not support airplay mirroring like the iPhone 4S or iPad 2 (and later) with iOS 5 and later. Thus you iPod will only AipLy for apps that support AirPly.
From the Videos, iPod, Photos, Music, and YouTube apps on iOS devices, stream videos, music, and photos to an Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation), or stream music to an AirPort Express or compatible third-party device.
With iOS 4.3 and later, you can also stream video and audio from a website or a third-party app installed on your iOS device if the developer for the app or website has added AirPlay functionality.

  • Questions about Apple TV 2 as a music streamer

I'm thinking about picking up an Apple TV 2, with my main intention being to use it as an AirPlay music streamer, and I'd like to find out some specifics about how it behaves.  Specifically, I want to make sure it won't require me to turn on the TV before I can stream to it. Preferably I wouldn't even have to turn on the device itself.  So maybe you can tell me:
Does the Apple TV respond to AirPlay even when it's in standby mode, or do I have to turn it on with its remote before it appears as an AirPlay destination?
Do I have to navigate to some location in the menus before it appears as an AirPlay destination?
Can you turn the device on using the Remote app, or do you have to use the physical remote control?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
There are a large number of people that have noted that the Apple TV will not turn itself on unless a connected TV is also turned on and the correct input is selected.
There are others that have been able to play audio via a receiver without the TV being on. There are also others who have found that if they turn the TV on and start to stream audio from say iTunes on their computer that they can then turn the TV off again.
There doesn't seem any consistency to the reports I've seen and the assumption I have made in this matter is that it may depend on which TV is being used with the Apple TV (it may also depend on the receiver in use.

Just bought the Apple TV and I am trying to find a way to do a wireless stream of a DVD movie playing on my MacBook onto my TV via Apple TV. Is that possible?

  • Why won't some of my MP4s stream to Apple TV (or iPad) via Home Sharing?

Hi all. I've been converting my DVDs, HD-DVDs, and Blu-rays to MP4, using MakeMKV and then Handbrake 0.9.9.5530 64-bit for encoding. I have been intending to play the files on my iPad, both transferring to the device and streaming via Home Sharing. I also want stream these via Apple TV (3rd gen, Model A1427) in the house via Home Sharing.
All the files sourced from HD-DVDs & Blu-rays seem to work fine. However, more than half the DVDs I've converted -- using the same Handbrake preset I've been using for the BRs -- will not play back on the iPad, or streamed to the iPad, or streamed to Apple TV. The files will copy to the iPad, but for both device playback and streaming, I get the error message "The operation could not be completed." On Apple TV, it's "An error occurred loading this content, try again later."
The files will play in iTunes for Windows, and they will play in VLC. (Files bought from the iTunes Store also stream fine.) There is no metadata in these files, but I am manually adding a poster image once I drop them into iTunes.
It seems pretty clear that this is a problem with the file itself, but since the only issues I'm having involve streaming, I reset my router for good measure. I restarted the Apple TV and quit all the apps on my iPad before restarting it, too. I've also made sure the firmware on all devices is up to date. None of that had an effect.
I compared a DVD rip (Bill & Ted's Excellent Adeventure) to a BR rip (Independence Day). Both feature exactly the same bitrates & sample rates for video and audio -- according to the Windows Properties -> Details tab, Data rate is 1499kbps, Total bitrate 1659, 23 frames/second, 2 stereo audio channels at 48KHz. The only difference is the BR frame size is larger (1920x812), and of course the run times & file sizes are different. But the bigger file plays fine, and a lot of these smaller files do not.
MP4s from DVDs that will stream: Toy Story, Dead Again, Clue, School of Rock.
MP4s from DVDs that won't stream: Ocean's Eleven, Escape from New York, Galaxy Quest, Robocop (Criterion). Shaun of the Dead, Team America World Police
Again, these were all converted on the same PC with the same software and same settings. If there's a common thread among the source material of the MP4s that will play and won't play, I don't know what it is, but I figured it would not hurt to list it.
My Handbrake settings are based on Handbrake's AppleTV 2 preset, with the following modifications:
Avg Bitrate 1500, 2-pass, no turbo 1st pass
    Framerate: 30, Peak
    Optimize:
    x264 Preset: Very Slow
    H.264 Profile: High
    H.264 Level: 3.1
Container is MP4, as is the file extension. (Since dragged-and-dropped MKV files default to M4V in Handbrake, I select MKV then re-select MP4 from the Container drop-down before adding to Handbrake's queue.)
Someone suggested I simply change the file extension to M4V, so I tried it, but that did not fool any of the stream devices.
I have been testing the output MP4 files on my PC as I go, and once they played fine in VLC after Handbrake, I have been deleting the MKV files. I can go back and rip them all again if I have to (these are all from DVDs I personally own), but obviously I'd rather not do that! So my questions now are:
    - Could this be related to the audio stream? I've been opting for the DD 3/2.1 stream whenever possible when ripping, and letting Handbrake mix it down.
    - If I run the MP4s through Handbrake a second time with a different setting, will it do a pass-through convert instead of a full re-encode? (I don't want to shrink the video if only the audio needs attention.) If so, which setting should that be?
    - Is there a way to repair these MP4 files without completely starting over with a fresh MKV?
    - If I have to start from scratch, should I go with Constant Quality over Average Bitrate?
Hopefully someone can spot my issue based on this description. I'm happy to send you my Handbrake settings as a .plist file and offer any other info I can, as I'm stumped as to what went wrong. There has to be a logical reason. Thanks!

I've continued tests on different films, and tried my entire collection. I've found about two dozen that will play fine on the PC, but will not cooperate when streamed to either Apple TV or my iPad. I tried several more tests with the audio, and that turned out not to be a factor -- I could not replicate that on another test.
I wonder if something in the header of these files is corrupted or a flag is set incorrectly or something along those lines, as the data appears to be fine -- it's just not "handshaking" with my streaming hardware and/or the Apple Home Sharing code that powers it.
Is there any way for me to "scrub" these files and amend their headers, or get into the file and tinker with that info by hand?
