Music streams but video/tv sometimes missing

I've finally gotten my ATV working - I don't know what I did, but something I did worked. My latest issue is that sometimes when I'm streaming content my music will show up and play just fine on the ATV, but when I go to Video or TV Shows the list is empty. I see the iTunes link and the movie trailers, but my videos and shows don't show.
I've solved it (or so I thought) once by resetting the ATV - all my movies and tv shows were listed and played fine, but the last time it happened that didn't work. My Video and TV Show lists are empty. I'd think it was a connection issue, but my music is playing fine. Also, my music videos are not playing either. I'm not sure what to make of this new problem.
Anyone else?

Here are my specs and details to my problem.
Network details:
• What kind of connection(s) -- Both
• What speed(s) if wireless -- G only. I turned off B and tried with both on as well
• What type/brand of router(s) -- I'm using Airport Express
• What is on the network -- iMac 20" Core Duo
• Any special network related software/drivers installed? Nothing. I even did a "out of box factory restore" on both Airport and AppleTV
• Any firewalls involved & if so, how are they set? None. All are off.
Content details:
• Source(s) -- Apple Store purchases, ripped DVD's, and Trailers downloaded from apple's site.
• For ripped video/TV content: 450MB 20MB 10MB and anywhere in between. I tried just about anything. Bit rate is 2500 or less, All are H.264 saved as MP4 and as MOV). Resolution is 480 height or less (no HD).
• Does it play OK in iTunes? On iPods? Plays perfect... flawless on iTunes but I haven't tried on ipod.
iTunes details:
• Version number 7.1.1
• Where is content located (iTunes Library or elsewhere)? It's located on the folder iTunes library but on a external harddrive. I've configured the content to be added to this folder in the itunes preferences I've also tried it on 2 other computers (Macbook Pro and G5 tower) both as their native or default folders
• Any third party software add-ons? Nothing at all. iTunes is left untouched.
• What are the Apple TV settings? I'm not sure what is meant by this question. Apple TV sees my entire library... including my videos. It plays music perfectly but never plays ANY videos. It just loads and loads and load. I even see the infor of the videos and the artwork. It's worth mentioning that the videos did in fact work when I 1st for it for about a week and then it just stopped. No settings were changed and it stopped. I exchanged it for a new one and it gives me the same problems.
• Does iTunes always see the Apple TV & is its name what you expect? Yes. iTunes and Apple TV talk fine to each other. There is no issues on actually connecting here.
Apple TV details:
• Syncing, streaming, both? Both. I tried dumping videos. I see the activity monitor and it shows it dumping at about 1.5 MB to 2.0 MB per second. I tried playing the sync videos on the ATV HHD but nothing works. IT just loads forever... even the 20MB files (apple quicktime trailers). I'm also not able to view ANY trailers from itunes via ATV. I can, however, see them on itunes on my mac so internet is not an issue.
• How full is hard drive? ATV harddrive is empty most of the time (I try to stream things). But I did fill it up a bit with videos to test to see if Sync works and it doesn't. My external HHD is 1TB (1,000GB) and am only using about 175GB so far.
• Does the network info look right? (e.g., network name, IP address, etc.) Everything checks out as far as I'm concerned. Like I said, itunes and ATV talk to each other just fine... I just cant see any videos. ALL videos play fine on itunes.
I also wanted to mention that I'm not far way from my airport/apple TV. I even brought down my computer to test them all out in the same room so the wireless signal meter is at full blast. I even tried turning off the wireless security and turning it off. I also tried having my internet sharing "on" on my iMac to have it act like a direct wireless provider with no luck. LAN also didn't work. Like I've said before. This is my 2nd apple tv thinking that the 1st one was defective... maybe this one is too but I was doubting I would have THAT much bad luck.
The 1st apple tv worked fine when I took it to the apple store. I took the 1st one back again and it worked fine at 1st and then it stopped so they gave me a new one. This one is doing the same thing.
These videos once worked fine and then it just stopped... on both apple tvs that I've tried. I tried playing the same videos again and nothing happens. I can see what videos I'm selecting so the navigation works fine. Its just that the playing factor just decided to stop.
I've also tried buying the new airport extreme thinking my airport express might be defective but it gave me the same problem... the airport is not the cause since I tired both wireless express and extreme and even LAN. Please note that I took extreme back since I have no use for N wireless.

  • Apple TV and Netgear Woes: Music streams, but movies & movie trailers don't

    Hi,
I'm having problems getting the Apple TV to stream video properly. My wireless router is a Netgear WGR614 v6. I've searched ad nauseum here and at other forums and have tried multiple suggestions regarding changing settings in the router's config page, etc., etc. However, the Apple TV still won't stream any video. I also have this same problem with iChat AV, but that's for another time.
If I select a movie trailer or a video (which has been encoded to meet the requirements for Apple TV), I get the little spinning circle in the bottom left of the screen with a time length bar. The circle, however, just spins and spins. Sometimes, the length bar shows blue as if it's slowly loading the video, but 99% of the time it doesn't. Additionally, in the videos/movies that I have encoded, I can actually skip from one chapter to the next, but the screen is just black. No video shows at all and the little circle just keeps on spinning and spinning.
Again, I've tried everything anybody has suggested on other threads to try and make this work, but it just doesn't.
Audio streams fine, though there are occasional hiccups.
Maybe there is something obvious that I'm missing?

It's rather interesting that you have similar issues with ichatAV, this would tend me to believe your problems lie within your router. I have heard that some routers are having problems with multicast DNS, don't know which they are though. Have you looked for any firmware updates for your router.

  • Can I disable Bluetooth music streaming but keep Bluetooth Calls?

In my car I have a Bluetooth system built in and my phone automatically activates Bluetooth calls & music at the same time. I would like to disable the music streaming as I also plugs the phone into the USB and I can access my music library through my audio system but the Bluetooth streaming overrides the USB connection there is no way of me disabling this on my car system so just wondering if there is an app to disable it or a setting on the phone which I am not aware of. Hopefully someone can help, all answers much appreciated and thank you in advance.

  • BT Music Streaming Works in Car - Sometimes

    Hi there,
I just purchased an iPhone 5 in the past few weeks. I've discovered that sometimes, I'm unable to stream music via BT in my 2013 Hyundai Sonata. BT Calls have always worked. When the music does stream, it does not show the artist, song name, etc., just the name of my iPhone, but I have control of the device through steering wheel controls (like volume and switching songs). The sound quality is good when streaming works.
Can anyone give me a hint of what the problem may be? I can't find any differences between when the phone works and does not to stream.
    Thank you in advance!

Usually the cause is the car media system instructing the i|Phone to play music .I have seen exactly that in other half's car until I switched it off in car system every time I got into her car it started iPhone playing music

  • Music streams but no internet connectivity and a question about a poss. fix

Forgive me if this question has been answered already (searched the forums for two hours and found none that were answered). Where I work there are two wireless networks, set up completely separate from one another using Linksys WRT54G routers. I've set up my Express to join one of the networks, (let's call it Network "A"). I chose this one because it's closer, signal is stronger and when I tried Network "B", streamed music would crackle out regularly.
Lately though I find that my internet connectivity disappears on Network "A" while music continues to stream flawlessly (airport signal shows full strength). I reset the Express, restart my computer, nothing seems to fix it outside of leaving for the night and coming back the next day. I switch to the other network, no problems with the internet, but streaming music becomes problematic. So here are my questions:
    1. Anyone have advice on how I can fix the internet connectivity problem on Network "A"?
    2. Failing that, does anyone know if it's possible to set up my express in such a way where it's only being used for streaming music (without joining or extending a wireless network) and then also connect my computer via wireless to either network for internet access? Wired access is not an option here unfortunately...
Again, sorry if this question has been answered somewhere else.

    1. Anyone have advice on how I can fix the internet connectivity problem on Network "A"?
When joining an existing network with the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), the AX is acting no different than you laptop connecting to that same wireless network. If there is connectivity problems with this network, both the AX and your laptop should "see" the same problems.
It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference in the immediate area that is preventing your Mac from getting a good clean signal from the Linksys router.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like MacStumbler or iStumbler to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible.

The only other option would be to configure the AX to be its own wireless network. The disadvantage of this would be that you would have to "switch" wireless networks in order to either stream audio or access the Internet.

  • Airport Express for music streaming, but not Internet?

I currently connect my PowerMac G5 to the Internet via a direct connection. How do I setup the A/E to stream music from my PowerMac G5 (Airport equipped), without disrupting the existing Ethernet connection?

If you want your G5 to be on the Internet AND stream music at the same time, the AirPort Express (AX) must be connected to your Internet source. The G5 can not use the Ethernet connection for Internet and the AirPort connection for streaming music at the same time.
If you have a wired router but do not have a wireless router, you could connect both the G5 and AX to the wired router.
If you do not have a router of any kind (other than the AX), you could connect AX to the ISP connection and then have the G5 wirelessly connect to the AX.
OR you could connect a wireless router to the ISP connection and then have the G5 and AX wirelessly connect to the router. Alternatively the G5 could be connected to the wireless router via Ethernet.

  • Streaming Long Videos Not Working

So in a nutshell tv shows stream/music streams but movies will not stream. To consolidate i have a server box that streams my itunes library with client systems. My iMac has no trouble, my laptop (vista) no issues, but my main desktop (xp pro) cannot view the movies. Almost like itunes sort of freezes then just does nothing. TV, Music work fine. Ive already uninstalled/reinstalled itunes a few times as well as quicktime. All are connected with a central hub with wired ethernet. Any similar issues or ideas?
    thanks.

I am having the same problem, it started after the last AIR update.

  • Models with high quality Bluetooth music streaming

I was planning on buying an e70 with ck20w for bluetooth music streaming but i found a thread on this forum mentioning that E70 streaming has poor quality.
Can you inform me what models have the capability of stereo high quality bluetooth streaming?

Have you tried deleting the device, setting the volume high on the phone and pairing again?

    Hi Brian,
Thanks restoring and restarting didn't fix my problem - i have started it fresh and still it doesn't work. Basically I press ONCE on the remote, after the machine has not had any commands for 10 minutes, and the cursor skips from one end of the menu to the other - so I can't choose network or update software etc - I sometimes manage to stop it randomly in the middle of the menu if I press on a command in the middle of the cursor skipping all the menu steps...not sure what the problem is but I have basically not used my brand new apple tv since I bought it for that reason! I should call Apple support I suppose! grrrr hate wasting time with stuff like this!
    Thanks for your help though!

  • Hi, I`d like to connect my Ipad wirelessly to a stereo to listen to my music from the iTunes library on streaming, but also to movies online, games, Goear-) and so on.  I guess I can do that using an Airport express connected to the stereo and via airplay

Hi, I`d like to connect my Ipad wirelessly to a stereo to listen to my music from the iTunes library on streaming, but also to movies online, games, Goear…) and so on.  I guess I can do that using an Airport express connected to the stereo and via airplay to my Ipad. My question is, can I listen to all the audio that come out from the ipad (movies online, games, Goear…) or only to the music from iTunes library? I`d appreciate any help. Alex.

My question is, can I listen to all the audio that come out from the ipad (movies online, games, Goear…) or only to the music from iTunes library?
On the iPad you can stream videos, photos, or music from the Video, Photos, Music, and YouTube apps to an Apple TV OR just stream music to an AirPort Express Base Station.

  • For some reason , when i restore my iphone 4s to factory settings my headphones work when listening to music or youtube videos but when i backup my information onto it , it only comes out of one ear bud and i just got a new one from the apple store.

for some reason , when i restore my iphone 4s to factory settings my headphones work when listening to music or youtube videos but when i backup my information onto it , it only comes out of one ear bud and i just got a new one from the apple store. my old iphone 4s audio jack was messed up but i just got a new one with my warranty , can anyone help me please.

It doesn't matter what it is in your backup that's causing the problem because you can not selectively restore things from your backup. It's all or nothing.
Set you phone up as a new device and start over.

  • I subscribe to Acorn TV. I am unable to stream their videos. I have no problem with Hulu, iTunes, Netflix. I have spoken with Acorn and have tried Firefox, Chrome and Safari, but nothing works. I am using a MacBook OS 10.6.8 and Firefox 3.6.12

I am a premium subscriber to AcornTV. I have been unable to stream video on my home MacBook Pro (OS 10.6.8) using Firefox 3.6.12. I can easily stream Hulu, iTunes, Netflix, etc, but NOT AcornTV. I have tried the AcornTV player on Safari, Chrome and Firefox, nothing works. I use Time Warner High Speed internet at home, and they claim the problem is on Acorn's end, which Acorn denies. The biggest frustration is that I CAN stream Acorn videos on my office iMac desktop, using the same OS and same version of Firefox (we have our own server at work, though).

I'm watching it right now on Firexfox, but it's on a Dell, not a Mac. Have you tired watching it on a Chrome or IE browser instead of Firefox? And does it work on those browsers?
You should continue to follow up with Acorn TV - email [email protected] and you will get help, from the CTO, if necessary. Also, they now have a diagnostic page built that can analyze your computer and it will give them more information about your system. So, if you haven't tried in two months, it might be worth trying again.

  • How can I transfer a video between iPads? I can see the video in a photo stream but it won't save to the new iPad.

I shot a video with the camera on an iPad and want to transfer a copy to a new iPad Mini to take advantage of the retina display.  I can see it in a photo stream, but it won't let save it to the new iPad.  The old iPad didn't have enough memory to work on an iMovie, so I need to get the video in the new iPad mini to put it in an iMovie project.

Okay, I figured out that Windows has "AutoPlay" settings which can automatically download photos and videos from a newly connected device, such as an iPad Mini.  I think I could open it in Windows Explorer too that way but the auto download solved my problem.

  • Just bought a nano and want to download some of my iTunes library. The "Music" button shows almost all my selections but some albums are missing, yet thos albums appear on the nano icon on my desktop but none of the others. What's happening?

Just bought a nano and want to download some of my iTunes library. The "Music" button shows almost all my selections but some albums are missing, yet ONLY those albums appear on the nano icon on my desktop after being dragged there but none of the others. What's happening?
I've read some of the post here that I thought might help but they refer to titles (Music) and triangles in the "Devices" window which are nowhere to be seen when I open the "Devices" window.
I have iTunes 11.0.3 and Mac OS 10.6.8. Does this make a difference?

I should mention that, for the first problem, I do make sure that my new tracks are stored in the folder where I told iTunes that my music is in. Also, when I say the cataloging of my library stops short of cataloging all my songs, I have tried leaving the computer unattended for days (my computer's sleep mode is disabled). It always stops before cataloging all of my music regardless of whether I am doing something else while iTunes is cataloging, or if I just let iTunes be the only program that's open during the cataloging process.
