Music-themes of iDVD free to use?

May I use the music-themes of iDVD for a public institution? It would used for a non-commercial short-film. What kind of copyrights are the sounds?

Yes you may.

SmartSound music is royalty-free. That means that you can use it freely in any production, even works-for-hire.

  • Setting aside photo space w/ using music option to fill free space

I have a 32gb iPhone and I'm am looking for way to utilize the 'fill free space' option with music while at the same time setting aside a few gigs of free space for music and video.  Whenever I use the 'fill free space' option, I am being limited  to the amount of pictures or videos that I can take before I get 'out of space' warnings with the camera.  I would like to set aside 2 or 3gb, dedicated for photos, then fill the rest with music.
Has anyone found an easy way to do this?  The only way I can think of to work around this might be to dump a lot of photos on the phone when syncing such that they take up an extra amount of space, then manually delete them from the phone interface once I get done.  This seems a little over cumbersome though... I would think there is more eloquent way to do this with through either iTunes or the iPhone.
    Thoughts?

That or add an App or Apps to take up the space.

    Nope.

I loaded iTunes on a new laptop. I copied and pasted my albums to a 4G stick and down loaded them to the new laptop. Placing them in, Libraries – Music – iTunes and than in Itunes used File – add file to library. So far so good. For what ever reason one of the CDs would not load onto the stick. I got the orginal CD and loaded directly to Itunes. Now when I look in  Libraries – Music – iTunes it’s not there but it is in and plays in iTunes. What should I have done or should I be doing? Thanks.

It's not a unique situation - happens all the time, smaller hard drives getting filled up.
It's also easy to fix. I just moved my itunes content to a bigger hard drive.
First I made a backup of the itunes database file - iTunes Library.itl. Just in case anything went wrong.
Nothing did go wrong, but I'd have it in case anything DID go wrong. That file holds ratings, playcounts, Date Added, and other metadata.
Second, in itunes change the preferences > advanced tab to tell itunes to put everything on G:
Set the itunes folder location to something like G:Media or G:iTunes
This will affect all FUTURE additions to itunes and not do anything to the existing locations.
Make sure the checkbox for "Keep itunes organized" is NOT checked. I also left the "Copy files when adding" unchecked.
Third, to move all the files to G: without itunes losing the paths, run the File > Library > Organize > Consolidate command. This will need to run a while, so be patient as it copies all the files to the new G: location. This does NOT delete the originals. You will have to do that.
Fourth, make sure everything in itunes is OK and you can play stuff in your library. If you're really cautious you can run a script to check for missing/dead tracks.

  • I am making a commercial for a contest. Can I use the iMovie music "Acoustic Sunrise" for free, or do I need some sort of permission?

I just need a clear, understadable answer on this in lamens terms. I am putting together a short video to be entered into a commercial contest. If picked as a winner, it would be used as an online commercial. Can I use one of the iMovie songs "Acoustic Sunrise" without having to pay a fee, or asking for permission? Are all the songs/sound effects that come with iMovie mine to use without a fee/permission?
I can't seem to find a clear answer on this. I tried reading the agreement, but forgive me, I am still not 100% sure what I can and can't do.
    Thanks to all help!

    Yes you can - maybe.
These are all free to use, as clearly stated in section 2.C of the iLife Software License Agreement:

  • Using iDVD 6 favourite themes in idvd 4

I have saved several themes in iDVD 6 on my Mac Mini and due to problems with compatability I have to use iDVd 4 on my Mac G4.
Is it possible to use themes created with iDVD 6 within iDVD 4 and how?
    Thanks in advance.

spagster, Welcome to the discussion area!
I would guess the answer is no, but you should ask in the iDVD discussion area.

  • When I have bought music from i-Tunes am I free to use that music on my videos, for instance on YouTube or Facebook?

When I have bought music from i-Tunes am I free to use that music on my videos, for instance on YouTube or Facebook?

no you are certainly not allowed to use music in any way you want.
iTunes downloads give you permission to play the music for personal use only; see the extract from terms of use below.
To use published music for other purposes you would need to contact the publisher of the music direct and ask about obtaining a licence.
This can be very expensive!     A few hundred £ / $
If this is for video production, a far easier and cheaper option is to use Production Music, such as MCPS:

  • Using themes from iDVD in DVD Studio Pro

I have both Final Cut Pro Studio and I have iLife '08. I really like some of the new themes in iDVD '08. Is there a way I can use these themes, or are some of them available for DVD Studio Pro? Does the newest version of Final Cut Studio Pro enable this? It would be a good reason for me to buy the upgrade.
    Marsha

You cannot open up iLife '08 iDVD projects any version of DVD SP. DVD SP does have some themes and you can try to get assets from iDVD projects to work with such as this to some degree

There are many reasons I can give you to get the new Studio (not sure which one you have) but I really enjoy the new one. Opening iDVD is not one of the reasons though

  • Watercolor theme on idvd/order of slideshows

Working on 'watercolor' theme for idvd, have 4 slideshows on chapter page and want to
have them loop in a certain order but can't find info for moving them...any suggestions?

    Hi she356
Welcome to apple discussions. Technically there is no "Play All" check box within iDvd like there is within Toast for example. But here's a few ways to meet your stated objective. First make your slideshows w/in iDvd as shown below ...
Now go to Map View and drag the slideshow that you wish to start with and to loop to the first box and select the Loop function in iDvd. For example:
That one slideshow will start to play as soon as the dvd is inserted into the dvd player and it will continue to loop until you hit "Menu" and that's how you'd access the Menu for second slideshow / movie.
Now let's say you have multiple slide shows and you want them all to play one after the other and w/o returning to the main menu and also to loop. That's where QT Pro, iMovie or FCP comes in. Once you string them together as one QT file /movie then you simply drag and drop the whole thing to the very first box while in Map View and also select the loop function.
or you can make a duplicate full length movie of all slideshows as ONE movie and designate it as the third slideshow and while in Map View drag it to the first / top box; remembering to also select the loop function.
Hope this works for you but if not feel free to search this forum for other approaches that involve 3rd party apps that might provide you with even better results since they often specialize in slideshow presentations. The following iDvd discussion may shed some light on exactly which apps are available to do this. FotoMagico comes to mind (and is often recommended on this forum) and so does Toast for continuous play options. Btw, Toast now includes FotoMagico within their software.

How to I get music I purchased before the iCloud was created to show up on my new authorized iPhone?  Right now I can only see the Apps I recently purchased on the actual phone but older music I purchased on my CPU using the same Apple ID doesn't appear.

Does any music show in the Purchased tab on the iTunes store app on your phone ? Music can't be re-downloaded in all countries, and even where it can be it will only appear whilst it remains in the store. Do you have your purchases on your computer and/or on a backup of your puchases so that you can sync them to your phone ?

Willy, the procdedure you describe works perfectly for AppleTV G1. In fact, I frequently play DTS music discs ripped to my iTunes library as Apple Lossless (ALAC) and synched to the ATV. What happens is that, as far as iTunes and the ATV are concerned, a conventional stereo 16/44 audio file is being played; however my reciever detects the DTS data stream, and instead of outputting static, it decodes the 5.1 channels correctly. This process parallels the way DTS discs were designed to be played back: a conventional CD player is connceted, via digital out, to a DTS-aware reciever/pre-amp and the two channels of static are recognized as 6 channels of DTS-encoded audio.
However this process will only work if the player (CD, ATV, PC, etc.) sends a "bit-perfect" 16 bit/44.1 khz data stream to the decoding device. In the case of ATV G2 and G3, as has been discussed elsewhere, the unit resmaples all audio - including 16/44 PCM (Redbook CD)  - to 16/48. While this is not a big deal for conventional audio CDs, MP3s, and AAC files, it mangles the fragile DTS datastream and renders it undecodable. The resulting static that you hear is just like the static you would hear if you played a DTS CD on a non-DTS capable system.
Sadly, I'm not aware of any easy way around this. You could use a program like Foobar (and the DTS plugin) to convert your DTS CDs to 6-ch .wav or .flac file. From there you could transcode the file to AC-3 and then mux it into a video container that ATV supports. You may need add a dummy video track, for iTunes/AppleTV to be ok with the file, though I'm not sure. This may be a lot of work.
Sorry for the bad news. I wish that the iTunes/ATV ecosystem had better multi-channel audio support.
    Steven

  • Can we share music/apps within a family while using different iTunes accounts?

Can we share music/apps within a family while using different iTunes accounts?
Recently purchased iPhone 5 for my wife and I + my daugther has an iPod.  I'd like for us all to have separate iTunes accounts so we can each use iCloud without getting each other's notifications, but would like to have one central repository for mucsic and apps.  I'm afraid if I set up iTunes accoutn for the tow of them, I'll have to re-purchase the music and apps (way too many!)

It can be done, but you will have to sign in to your account on her itunes to updated the apps. Try these instructions:

  • How to make movie in iDVD without themes.  iDVD app quitting during burning

I am trying to make movie without themes and still having problems. I have tried using the map view in themes, dragging movie into the first box on left, looping it - but am seeing a yellow error sign in the theme box. Don't know why this is. Have tried to burn movie anyway but iDVD app quits halfway thru. Today I tried just simply going to iDVD >file>onestep DVD from movie>select movie and inserting disc. This seems to be the simple solution I have been looking for to burn a movie without themes but iDVD still quit on me halfway thru burning just now. Is this a space problem? Disc problem? help...

OK F Shippey - Using this computer for anything other than email is pretty new to me. I have just recently began using imovie and idvd. I have burned one idvd and working on a second. While making the movie I was constantly having to delete old footage to make room for space. In other words I don't know much about space and usage. I know that in my new imovie project it says that i have 7.53 Gb available. I know i have a Lacie external with one DVD on it. So what do i need to know about space on a hard drive while using imovie? How do you monitor how much hard drive space you have while working on projects like this? Do I find this info in About This Mac? Sorry for so many dumb questions. Clearly I don't know what I am doing. Thanks for your reply.

  • When you are pulling music from a hard drive and it says music can not be found, is there a way to stop it from doing that every time I play music from my computer? It used to find all music now it only finds 1 song at a time

When pulling music from a harddrive and it say music can not be found, is there a way to stop this from happening every time I play music on my computer? It used to find all music when serching for song but now it only finds 1 at a time. I have over 2000 songs so I can't go through this every time.

    1) However I do not want to move my itunes Music onto the flash drive, only my Movies, and want to keep my music on my hard drive.
    Is this possible?
    Yes
    2) Do the MacBook Air's not have a separate program other than itunes that can play movies? If so, is there a program I can get to solve this problem? I went onto the App Store to see if there was something I could download, but all the apps were for creating DVD's, not simply playing them.
If you can play the movies in iTunes, you should be able to open the movie files using Quicktime, which should already be on your system.  If you have already transferred the files to your flash drive, open the flash drive in Finder, and hold control when you click on the movie file (or right click if you have the enabled) and select Open With Quicktime Player.  This should play the movie directly from the flash drive.
If you want to set all .m4v files to open with Quicktime by just double clicking on the file, you can follow the steps here: http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/2573/os_x_how_to_change_default_application_to_op en_file_type/
    3) If 1. & 2. questions are solvable, will it then be safe to delete the movies from my itunes?
You can move the TV shows to your flash drive by dragging them from the iTunes window to your flash drive in Finder or the flash drive icon on the desktop.  When you are sure everything is transferred over to your external device, you can delete the movie from iTunes.  I recommend playing the videos from the flash drive first before deleting them in iTunes.
To delete the videos from iTunes, you can highlight them and press the delete key on your keyboard.  In the next prompt, you would want to move it to the trash so that it is deleted from your internal hard drive.
    I hope that helps!
