Music to new iMac

I have a Windows 7 PC with iTunes installed, an iPad 2, both with lots of music stored and organized on them.  I just purchased an iMac and would like to transfer my music to iTunes on the iMac, but not sure how to accomplish this?  I tried Migration Assistant but it keeps losing connection to the PC.

You can just connect your iPad, click File > Devices > Transfer purchases.
That'll only transfer music purchased through iTunes, not music imported into iTunes. See this Apple doc for other options -> iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer

  • Transfering music from new iMac to iPod without losing songs on ipod

    Hello,
I've just finised uploading all my CD's onto my new iMac. I now wish to download the contents of the iMac's iTunes library onto my iPod (click wheel but not video) without losing the songs that are already on the iPod. The iPod was originally synced to a Windows PC which was used to download it's existing library. There are a number of songs on my iPod that are not in my new iMac's iTunes library & also a large number of songs that are already on the iPod.
Basically, I want to know how I can download all songs from my iMac's library that are not already on the iPod without losing the songs I have on the iPod that are not in the iMac's iTunes library (Ihope that makes sence).
    Thanks for any assistance.

    Hi Dave!
    Yes, you can do this.
First off, do this to prevent iTunes from automatically syncing your iPod:
    1 - Open iTunes.
2 - Connect your iPod to your computer.
3 - Basically as soon as your iPod begins to display "Do Not Disconnect", begin to press and hold the Option and Command keys on your keyboard together simultaneously.
4 - Continue to hold these keys for about 20 seconds, throughout the time when your iPod is showing up in the Source List in iTunes.
After you've done this, click on your iPod's name in the Source List (the Source List is the left panel area of iTunes), and under the "Summary" tab, tick the "Manually manage" option for your iPod. Also, go to the “Music” tab, and ensure that the “Sync” option isn’t selected.
Click the “Apply” button in the bottom-right corner to save your changes.
Manually managing the songs on your iPod will allow you to preserve the current content that you have on your iPod, and transfer new content from your iTunes library to your iPod.
When you are connecting your iPod to a computer that is different than what it is normally synced to, you will get a message that says something like: "The contents of the iPod "your iPod's name" is synced to another iTunes library. What would you like to do?"
You will be given a couple of options, and make sure to click on "Cancel", and NOT "Erase and Sync" (or else the current contents of your iPod will be erased, and the iPod will be synced with your iTunes library).
So, after you've saved your iPod's songs from being automatically synced off of it, you can transfer your iPod's music to your compter if you wish.
You can install a third-party program onto your computer that can do this copying.
    Try using Senuti.

  • HELP!!..Window is Dead...need to get music to new iMAC

My windows machinerecently dies a horrible death but I still have my iPOD.
Is it possible to transfer the music/playlist that are currently on my iPOD to my new iMAC?
Or do I have to start from scratch?

The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there's a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to your Mac at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If you prefer something more automated there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others as well, they are generally quite straightforward. The transfer of purchased content to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7, look under under File>"Transfer Purchases from iPod". A paragraph on it has been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting to your computer and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "'Erase and Sync") will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back up your iTunes. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Transferring 32 GB's worth of music to new iMac

I ordered a new iMac, and currently have an OWC external HD with 32 GB's of music on it. The iMac has a huge HD, so I want to stuff it with my music. Is there an easy way to transfer the "source" as well as the info? I don't want to have to sit and make up new titles/lists for all of the Cds. Thanks!

Connect the external drive to the new iMac. Drag and drop the entire iTunes folder to the new iMac's hard drive. Then tell iTunes where to find it.

  • I've got a new IMAC, but i don't have all my music or movie purchase on it.  I just recently updated iTunes.  How do I get my purchases back?

Ive got a new iMac and now that i updated iTunes I do not have all my music and movie purchases.  How can I get it all back?.  I used to have it before update

It doesn't magically transfer itself, you have to do it.  Purchase may present themselves for re-downloading but things such as CD are only on the old machine or on the CD.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder. If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there. (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

  • Just Got A New iMac, Can I Get Music Off My iPhone To Put Into iTunes?

I just purchased a new iMac today and I have all my music on my other iMac.
I used to plug my iPod into the new computers I got and copy the songs onto it.
    But my iPod got stolen.
I was wondering if I could do the same thing with my iPhone.
Is there a program that is compatible with the iPhone that allows you to take the music from it and copy it onto a computer?
    Thanks,
    Sam

  • I copied all of my CD's onto my iMac's hard drive. Now I'd like to buy a new iMac and am wondering how to transfer the music I have loaded on  my iMac from CD's on to my new computer w/o  going through the process of loading them into my iTunes Library.

I have copied all of my CD's, probably over 100, on to my iMac, through iTunes and now am considering buying a new iMac. Would like to be able to transfer what's in my music library w/o having to recopy all of the CD's. Any thoughts? Can I do it throught the iCloud or do I need to buy and external storage device?
    Thanks Brenda

When you buy your new iMac you will be able to have the installation process transfer all your applications, data (including music, pictures, documents, etc) and settings to your new computer. In the past that was done via Firewire. I'm not entirely sure of the process with the new iMacs that don't have firewire. I think it can be done via ethernet and probably via tha thunderbolt cord using a firewire adapter but you'll want to check that out.
With the your new computer properly connected to your old computer, the initial booting of the new computer will include the ability to move everything over.
If for some reason you don't want to do that (smart if you have some horrible software issue that is causing problems) you can connect your old computer to the new one and start it in Target Disk mode where it will be seen as a hard drive. You can then manually copy over all your music and import that into iTunes (and any other data you want).
Somebody here will surely point you to directions for connecting an older iMac with no Thunderbolt to a newer iMac with no Firewire.

    No.
One of you create a new AppleID and one use the existing AppleID.
But you can still use the items in each iTunes library.
Create separate computer logins for each of you.
This will give you each your own data. Contacts, calendars, photos, etc. (and your own iTunes library).

  • How can I move my music to my new iMac?

I've copied over all the music from my other computer to the new iMac, but iTunes doesn't see any of it, nor do any of the playlists show up.
I've gone into the prefs and properly assigned the folder containing all the music to it, but nothing shows up.
I've grabbed all the preferences I can see withing the Users Library, and still nothing.
    What am I missing?

As I can see in this article, describes the option you have to export all your iTunes files to anther hard disk from where itunes app will read the files exists, that could be another internal hard drive or External drive, but not transferring all the files and the Playlists you have in your first computer to the iTunes of another computer.
I really didn't mean to use the Import option, that is another possibility. The other options I haven't use is the "Export" that is in the File Menu. You can export either you Music (without files) or "Export Library". Some of those two options must have the info of all your playlists. I am going to test one of those exports and import them in another iTunes that I have in my office and has all the same audio files that I have in my home computer. In the office I don't have all the playlists that in the original does.
If those don't do the trick, I guess there must be an option to achieve having all your files togehter with you Playlists.
    Best regards!

    Hi there,
It sounds like your purchased content is not transfering via a flash drive. It may be easier to re-download this contnet directly from iTunes. Take a look at the article below for mor information.
