Music to PC from Mac

I am sending some of my own music to relatives who have PCs. I shall be burning the music to disc. What is the best file form so that they can play the music and copy it to their own folders. At present the files are all mp3 in iTunes 7.
Cheers

MP3 is probably your best choice from a compatibility point of view as AAC is less widely used at present. I for instance your relatives have a non Apple music player or a newer in-car CD player then MP3 would be the most compatible compressed format: iTunes Encoding Strategies

  • Need help transferring Music Files & Playlist from Mac Book to iMAC

I am having difficulty transferring my music files and playlists from my Macbook to my iMAC. All of the music goes over well but the playlists, comments and ratings do not. Any assistance in this area would be greatly appreciated.

Copy the entire \Music\iTunes\ folder from your MacBook to your iMac.
The link posted by WoggleDog deals only with moving the iTunes music folder on one computer to a different location to use on that same computer.

  • Music & Info -- Copying from Mac to PC?

I have my music library in iTunes on my Mac and want to put some of my collection to my PC laptop where I will also use iTunes.
My library is 17 or 18,000 songs taking up about 85 mgs -- I might want a quarter of these on my laptop too.
Almost all (99+%) of the songs I imported from the CDs I own (not bought from iTunes Store) and are MP3s
How do I copy the songs and the info -- track names, albums, etc. -- so I can use on the PC?
If I make platlists and burn as a data DVD will will the song info burn (and then import to the PC) as well?
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks

    Yes, this will work.
You might also copy those tracks to a FAT32 formatted ext hd + Add the folder containing those tracks to your PC laptop iTunes

  • Managing music on ipod (from mac to ipod, and visa versa)

I cant believe how cumbersone and how totaly ruined by commercial bullshiat ipod and itunes is.
I realy need away to manualy copy from and to,,,and manage my music in the ipod
Is there such a program?? (freeware i hope)

Well you can put your iPod into Manual sync mode and then the manual copying from iTunes to the iPod is as easy and drag and drop.
But the other way around is not enabled to prevent illegal file sharing as this would allow a very simple way for people to share their digital music to other computers. Apple purposely designed the iPod to be a player so that music is sort of one way, onto the iPod or deleted from it, but not transferred off of it to something else.
There are third party apps that can move stuff off the iPod to the computer, but I am not sure if any of them allow normal day to day to and from transfers of individual tracks like you want to do.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV 2 doesn't show up under devices like the Apple TV 1, to send video and music to the Apple TV you need to use the Airplay Option which appears in the lower right corner of iTunes.

  • Move itunes music and playlists  from one disk to another on same mac pro

I was running Maverick 10.9.1 on my early 08 Mac Pro. I was having significant problems with the system locking up and having to shut it down manually. After discussing the problem with an Apple Support Rep, I executed a clean installed of Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on a new HDD.  I need to move my itunes library from the old Maverick HD to the new Snow Leopard HD. My Time Machine is corrupted for the old drive.  How can I move my music and playlists from itunes on the old drive Maverick to the new Snow Leopard drive?  I will also need to move my address book contacts.  Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks. This solved the iTunes problem.  Any suggestion as to how I cam move or copy my address book to the new HD?  I can't find the location of the address book files on the old HD.

  • How can I transfer music and iTunes from my mac to my iPhone?

I have a macbook air and need to transfer some of my music and itunes from my mac to my newly updates iphone4. Previously I used to drag what I wanted from my itunes to my phone but now it doesn't work. Any ideas?

First step, of course, is to plug your iPhone into your Macbooks Air. Then, you need to set up syncing how you want it in iTunes (on the MBA). If you want to be able to drag and drop music, select "manually manage music" on the Summary pane in iTunes.

  • Can't add music my iPhone from iTunes.  When I try to drag a song over to my phone, I get the circle w/ the syncing line through it, but it does not update/load.  [Manually manage music and videos] is checked. And, this is the only Mac I have ever used to

Also, just updated the phone's software today, and iTunes' software is already up to date.

    Hi Gregg,
Have you tried resetting the device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Home screen redisplays, see if your Music app is behaving normally.
    Cheers,

This is the iTunes for Windows forum...
    You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new windows installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup! (Windows tip). For a Mac use Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner.

  • Transfering music and files from a pc to my mac

i have music files as well as other files (music the most important) and want to transfer it to my mac.
the pc is networked w/ my mac and i can play the files through a shared file...but i want to save the files on to my mac
    any suggestions
    any help much appreciated

These instructions are from Mac Help accessible from the Help menu of the Finder.
To transfer music from your Windows computer:
    1. On the Windows computer, create a folder to hold your music.
    2. Choose Start > My Documents to open the My Documents folder.
    3. Select the My Music folder, and choose Edit > Copy.
    4. Select the new folder you created in step 1, and choose Edit > Paste.
(Repeat steps 3 and 4 for any other folders that contain music you want to transfer.)
    5. Copy the folder containing the music you want to transfer to your Macintosh computer.
    6. To copy the folder, either connect the Windows computer and your Macintosh computer over a network, or copy the folder to an intermediary location such as an external hard disk or remote server. If your Windows computer supports it, you can also burn the folder to a CD or DVD disc.
    7. On your Macintosh, open iTunes by clicking the iTunes icon in the Dock.
    8. Open iTunes
    9. Drag the folder that contains your music to the iTunes window. iTunes copies your songs to you iTunes library.
When iTunes has finished copying all the music files you can delete the folder and all the music files because they have now been duplicated into the iTunes Library.

Thank you for your prompt response - I did as you said and did a drag and drop into the iTunes window - it imported and got my album art from the net. When I started Itunes with the shift key down I was prompted to choose a library but since I copied over the media folder and not the library folder I was unable to select that so I guess I will have to create a new library and add in all the music, videos, etc. unless I wait for my laptop and export the library or at least that seems to be the case? In short, all my data (iTunes media folder) is on my external drive and can be added to the blank iTunes screen but I can not choose a library folder. Is there anyway around completely making all those playlists again? I am not sure my laptop will survive the shop with data intact and really hate to start over on those.
In an unrelated question - I collect old TV shows from the 1950's. Can I make playlists within the home video folder somehow?  In other words like one for Quiz shows, one for comedies, one for police and detective shows, etc. while I am remaking all my playlists for my music if I end up having to go that route?
Once again thank you for helping me out. I am not too Itunes savvy and really appreciate you taking the time to answer.

Entourage is a third party app so stop down to the Microsoft support forums. In any case I would suspect in its preferences there would be a selection as to when (parameters) incoming mail should be deleted from the server.

  • I have a new iMac - how do file share my music and photos from my old mac to my new mac?

I want to transfer my music and photos from one Mac to another - but I don't want to transfer anything else - what is the best way to do this?
    Thanks

the simplest way would be to connect the two Macs with a firewire cable, boot the source Mac in Target Disk Mode, and copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) from /users//music on the source to /users//music on the target (overwriting the iTunes folder in place there).
do the same with your iPhoto library. see this support article for more information (except, you won't have to option-launch iPhoto)

Once you have successfully done that you can go ahead and choose Erase and Sync when you plug your iPod in.
