Hello lavergne
You can only transfer music that has been purchased through the iTunes Store. The steps are outlined in the article below. Also the other article will let you download other purchases without having to plug in your iPhone.

  • Music transfer from IPHONE to new laptop

    hi
my iphone wont transfer my music as states my i tunes library is already on a previous pc - which it was - but this pc crashed due to a virus and had to be scrapped - how do I transfer to my new laptop?
    thanks

OK, just encountered this yesterday with an iPod Touch that I bought my sister. I made an account for her on my computer and registered it with her iTunes account so she could install stuff on the new iPod to use on trip home. When she got home to sync it, she would get a message that it was going to be erased. We had no choice but to proceed with the sync. After that message though there was a dialog to either erase, merge, or cancel. I selected merge and the only thing that she lost was her folders which were easy enough to recreate since she didn't have very many to begin with. I think this is something new with iTunes and while it didn't destroy/lose any important data, it's not really how it should correctly opperate not only was there an extra dialog box, but it misinforms the user that their data is going to be erased when it will not if they choose to merge on the next dialog which they are then too afraid to reach for good reason.

  • HT1386 new computer, how do I transfer from Iphone to new computer itunes library?

I purchased a new computer.  Thought I backed up to Itunes before but nothing shows in music library once I log in.  How do I preserve whats on phone to itunes on new computer?

iTunes will only transfer music purchased from iTunes from the phone to your iTunes library.  Music from other sources can only be transferred from your phone to your iTunes library using 3rd pary software such as Touch Copy.  Your only other options would be to re-import this music from other sources (such as CDs) or to copy the entire iTunes folder from your old computer to your new one, using one of the methods outlined here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527.

  • Music transfer from iPhone 4 to iPhone 4s?

I'm having trouble transferring my music from the iPhone 4 to the iPhone 4s.  Here's what I tried.  I backed up the iPhone 4 and then plugged in the newly activated iPhone 4s and restored it as a backup.  When the iPhone 4s finished restoring, only photos and settings had transferred.  The apps began transferring, but my music was no where to be found.  The iPhone 4 is set to manually manage music and video.  It was also running iOS 4.3.3.  Is iOS 5 required on both phoens to restore data from one phone to another?  Would the software difference explain why the music and contacts did not transfer?

You can backup the 4, erase all content and settings on the 4S (reverting it to a "new" state), then set it up and tell it to restore from iTunes using the backup made of the 4. I know that if you are syncing music, this will set it up with the same media on the phone. I don't manually manage music, so I don't know if it will definitely do this under those circumstances. It sounds like it doesn't.
Syncing does NOT mean you have to transfer EVERYTHING in your library to the phone. It's fairly simple to selectively sync playlists, artists, genres, specific podcasts, etc.

  • Transfering music library from Iphone to new pc

How can I transfer all of my music from my iphone to my new pc. I have only found out how to transfer the music purchased in the itunes store.

Itunes purchased music is all you can transfer. The iphone is NOT a back up device.
The music sync is one way -computer to iphone.
You should move the music from your old computer to the new one, then sync.
You can use your back up copy of your music to do this.

  • Music sync from iPhone to new PC

I have a new PC and would like to sync my iPhone content, music, etc., to my new PC. Is there a way I can do that?

You need to transfer your iTunes library from your old PC to your new PC - especially if your iTunes library on your old PC includes iTunes content that was not purchased from the iTunes store. And you need to do the same for any photos on your old PC that were transferred to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process.
iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased from the iTunes store from an iPod or iPhone, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased from the iTunes store only.
First you need to authorize your new PC with your iTunes account with iTunes. With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone. This will not transfer any iTunes content that was not purchased from the iTunes store.
If any 3rd party apps available on your iPhone that were purchased from the iTunes store are not transferred to your iTunes library with this process, you can re-download any purchased app with iTunes on your computer and not be charged again for the app as long as you use the same iTunes account that was used to purchase the app originally.
You will probably be better off transferring your entire iTunes library from your old PC to your new PC.
The sync process for contact info, calendar events, and Safari bookmarks is a bidirectional or true sync process with the supported applications on your computer. For syncing contact info and calendar events, Outlook 2003 or 2007 is required. For syncing contact info only if Outlook 2003 or 2007 is not available, you can sync contact info with the address book used by Windows Mail - the name change for Outlook Express with Vista.
Before syncing contact info and calendar events with Outlook on your new PC and if the Outlook address book and calendar are empty - do not have any data, enter one contact in the address book and one calendar event in the calendar. Make these up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt when syncing contact info and calendar events, which you want to select. If you will be syncing contact info only with the address book used by Windows Mail, the same applies - enter one contact in the address book used by Windows Mail before syncing contact info. This will provide a merge prompt, which you want to select.
Photos transferred to your iPhone from your old PC will be erased first when selecting photos on your new PC to be transferred to your iPhone, so if you want the photos available on your iPhone that were transferred from your old PC if you have any, you need to transfer all photos from your old PC to your new PC along with all other important data from your old PC that you want available on your new PC.

  • Music transfer from laptop to new iPad mini

Hi, how do I transfer my music from my iTunes library to my new iPad mini? I feel I have tried everything they user guide/online help suggests and it's still not working. I have synced it with my iTunes, tried to manage my music manually, used I cloud, synced it manually and over wifi? Also when I buy music on my iPad it doesn't store on there, it goes straight to my phone and laptop? It says my iPad music has "no music". I have had my iPad for over a week now and everything else on it works fine, getting very frustrated now about the music though, please help.

Have you quit the music app completely and rebooted the iPad? I get that now and the "No Music" message and I know damm well there is music on the iPad. If I quit the music app and reboot it will show up. Not saying it will work, but since nothing else's is working, try it.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on the music app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

how to transfer music from iphone to new computer

iTunes will transfer your purchases from your iPhone to your new computer by using File>Transfer Purchases. For the rest of the content that’s on your iPhone use a program called TouchCopy which works on Windows and the Mac. It transferred my music, photos, contacts and SMS to my new computer very well.

  • HT202662 how to transfer music from iPhone to new Windows 7 PC?

How to transfer music from iPhone to new Windows 7 PC?

Your iPhone is not a backup/storage device. You can transfer music from iPhone to iTunes: go to ~/Music/iTunes in your previous account (I presume you mean that you made a "new account" on your Mac) and copy all its contents to somewhere in your new account (not ~/Music/iTunes). Then drag the entire iTunes folder onto the iTunes app icon.

  • Itunes not seeing music and media on my iphone after transfer from XP to new Windows7  PC

Can someone please help me out here?  I don't know if I missed a step or need to do something else... I will be as detailed as I can without being too long-winded.  I have an old netbook running XP and got a new laptop and want to move over all my media and sync and use the new laptop.  I spent a lot of time reading about how to do this and here are the steps I took:
    1) Did a final backup/sync on old PC.
    2) Enabled home sharing on old PC.
    3) Installed itunes on new PC and hooked up iphone to authorize phone.
    4) Enabled home sharing on new PC and moved over all media (took FOREVER to complete this).
    5) Transferred purchases from iphone onto new PC.
    6) Exported playlists from old PC and then imported them to new PC
    7) Did a backup of phone on new PC and then tried to set up itunes to sync as it did on my old phone.
    8) Click sync and after checking for files to sync... Itunes says there is not enough space on my iphone to complete.
In Itunes on the new PC, I can see my iphone and my library matches when I click on the Itunes music library from the old PC.  However, when I click on music under my iphone, it only sees a single album that I recently purchased and also doesn't recognize any other media (movies, tv shows, tones) except for podcasts.
What is strange is that when I click on my iphone in Itunes... the status bar matches exactly what is on the phone in terms of audio, movies, etc with 6.2Gb of free space.  To further troubleshoot, I tried to copy over the itunes music library (xml file) from the old PC to the new PC with the same results.  I also did a shift start of itunes to choose the itunes library, still same result (didn't expect that to change).  I also uninstalled Itunes and reinstalled with the same results.
The music library paths are different on my old PC and my new PC not only because of path differences from XP to Windows7, but also because when I moved over the media from my old PC to new PC using home sharing... Itunes put media under the Itunes folder where I had it under a different folder on my old PC.
I'm afraid of doing a restore on the new PC since I have a feeling the backup might not work.  I could always go back and do a restore again on the old PC if it doesn't, but that means I would be back to the point I am currently at after waiting multiple hours of doing backup and restores.
What am I missing here?  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

so i went ahead and did a restore from the new PC and then a restore from backup.  looks like that fixed everything... a few playlists were messed up and so far as i can tell, maybe just a few minor issues.

  • How do you transfer contacts  from iphone to new ipad?

how do you transfer contacts  from iphone to new ipad?

"Paired"?  I think you are saying you were trying to use Bluetooth to do this transfer.  That will not work.
Instead, try one of these two methods:
    1.  Use iCloud to contain the contacts.  Then set both the iPad and iPhone up to reference the iCloud contacts.
    2.  Sync the iPhone using iTunes on your computer.  Then sync the iPad using the same iTunes.
(This may or may not work depending on what you use to house the contacts.)
