I loaded iTunes on a new laptop. I copied and pasted my albums to a 4G stick and down loaded them to the new laptop. Placing them in, Libraries – Music – iTunes and than in Itunes used File – add file to library. So far so good. For what ever reason one of the CDs would not load onto the stick. I got the orginal CD and loaded directly to Itunes. Now when I look in  Libraries – Music – iTunes it’s not there but it is in and plays in iTunes. What should I have done or should I be doing? Thanks.

It's not a unique situation - happens all the time, smaller hard drives getting filled up.
It's also easy to fix. I just moved my itunes content to a bigger hard drive.
First I made a backup of the itunes database file - iTunes Library.itl. Just in case anything went wrong.
Nothing did go wrong, but I'd have it in case anything DID go wrong. That file holds ratings, playcounts, Date Added, and other metadata.
Second, in itunes change the preferences > advanced tab to tell itunes to put everything on G:
Set the itunes folder location to something like G:Media or G:iTunes
This will affect all FUTURE additions to itunes and not do anything to the existing locations.
Make sure the checkbox for "Keep itunes organized" is NOT checked. I also left the "Copy files when adding" unchecked.
Third, to move all the files to G: without itunes losing the paths, run the File > Library > Organize > Consolidate command. This will need to run a while, so be patient as it copies all the files to the new G: location. This does NOT delete the originals. You will have to do that.
Fourth, make sure everything in itunes is OK and you can play stuff in your library. If you're really cautious you can run a script to check for missing/dead tracks.

Can I merge or combine 2 "album artwork" folders? I have saved music onto an external server from 2 computers but the artwork that I have manually imported remains in the default folder in the music/itunes/"album artwork" folder on their respective PCs.
i.e. artwork uploaded on one PC won't apppear on the other PC because it is saved locally...
I'm confident that i won't beable to just merge the 2 because thy'll have the same folder names.
On the same note: can I have iTunes create these files on the external server/Hard drive also so that either computer can use them at the same time?
(like I have my library- can the other files be saved remotely)
    Thx

  • Can I copy music iTunes Music Folder from my external Hard drive to new PC?

not sure if this is possible but I copied my folders (documents/music/itunes/itunes music folder) from my local hard drive from laptop to my external (for backing up purposes) and now i have a new computer. can i just simply copy/paste this folder to my new computer and open itunes and it will be there. i know it's probably too easy but was hoping someone could help me out???? thanks.

You can by dragging them from itunes to your external drive this will copy them to it. Then do the opposite for from you drive to the new computer. Just make sure if you don't intend to keep the drive connected to your new computer. That you put copies of the songs in a folder on it before putting them on itunes or you have problems playing your songs.

Error can t Download the Music iTunes Match

Is it giving you a specific error number? And what kind of network connection do you have?
One thing you might try is a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the iPad shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the iPad back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset. Not sure it would help, but it will not hurt.

  • How .xml and ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music work

Have posted this before, just reposting in hopes of getting an answer...
In 2.5 years we've had 3 hard drives, 2 logic boards, a power supply, multiple crashes, etc. During all this time of data recovery and frantic backing up, I managed to duplicate all but the most recently added songs in my iTunes folder. In the past I had deleted these duplicates from the Music library. So, I don't think I had these duplicates before re-importing or adding my songs to the iTunes program after an erase and install two days ago. The erase and install did not get rid of our erratic computer problem(s), and Apple is graciously sending us a new iMac.
I'd like to clear up this duplicate issue before importing my library to iTunes on the new computer. As far as I can tell, I'll have to delete each duplicate by hand. My question relates to how the iTunes Music folder, the iTunes Music Library.xml doc, and the actual iTunes program work together.
    (1) Should I go into ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/album folders and delete each song by hand from there? Or should I import all the duplicates in these folders and delete them from within iTunes? In the end, I want no duplicates in the iTunes program and no duplicates in my iTunes Music/album folders.
    (2) Could the .xml file be saving data that would cause these duplicates to be recreated? Should I resave it after deleting duplicates? Does the .xml file affect the Music library at all?
    (3) This last time, I don't know if I officially "imported" or "added" music or what. iTunes had been reinstalled, was empty. First, I put iTunes Music Library.xml on my desktop, and then went to File>Import (like on http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313). But, absolutely no music showed up in the music library. All my playlists showed up, and they had no music. Only radio stations we had put in playlists showed up. In the referenced article, it says NOT to add music when you are doing this, so I didn't. THEN, I dragged ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music and dropped it into iTunes. All the duplicates were created then, I believe.
Did I "import" or "add", or what? Did I cause duplicates to be created? Should I drag-and-drop ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music or import it BEFORE I do the .xml thing? I believe next time I'll take advantage of the File>Back Up To Disc function, and I'm assuming this won't happen.
    Thank you for your help!
    Deanna
P.S. After my initial post, somebody suggested the article at
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93732
However, this article deals with .xml and iTunes Music Library, which is a database file. I need info on .xml and iTunes Music Folder, the folder that physically holds all my iTunes.

  • Rotation not working, lag (Music, iTunes store)

I got my iPod Touch for my birthday last year April - I'm guessing it's 3rd generation (No camera). A few months after I got it, I noticed that sometimes the rotation function (that portrait orientation thing) stops working; this was first noticed when I tried with watching Youtube videos. Now it refuses to work altogether. Also, the iPod lags to the point where it sometimes exits out to home screen, so I have to retry whatever I wanted to do. Usually this happens with Music, iTunes, App store, etc. I have also never jailbroken the iPod.
Yes, I know about the Portrait Orientation lock. Toggling that doesn't do anything.
I'm guessing that for problems like this, the usual solution would be to restore back to the "New" settings. I've read around a little, and heard cases where resetting didn't completely solve the problem. In fact, I'm hesitant as to whether I should even do a restore since I've done one before, and while it fixed the portrait rotation function at first, it started acting up again within days.
Right now I'm restoring the iPod because I finally have the time. If restoring doesn't work, do I have to go to the Apple Store? What if I don't have warranty (I'm not sure whether the warranty extends past a year; my mom bought this for me)? I can't afford a new iPod.
Edit: I just reset my iPod and it looks like the rotation function is still broken.

I'm having the same exact issue.  Did the restore from a backup and it was good for about a week.  Only difference is I'm on iOS 4.3.3 (iPod Touch 3rd Generation).  I'm surprised there isn't more talk of this as it seems like it should be more of a common occurance?  I tried reset all settings only as someone suggested on another forum but that had no affect...seems to be software related though.

No idea what this folder is. Sounds like it is something you created & named.
    •My Music > iTunes > iTunes Media > Music
This is the default folder iTunes uses for music.

  • Apache giving a Directory index forbidden by rule: /Users/me/Music/iTune

I am trying to configure Apache to display my iTunes folders so that I can download them to my Playstation 3. The Playstation 3 either gives me a network error, or a "Directory index forbidden by rule: /Users/me/Music/iTunes/" in Apache. The network error on the PS3 seems to occur when Bonjour (?) rewrites the system name (I have entered the IP address) to "george-smiths-computer.local", since the playstation 3 doesn't know how to find this address.
My rules in httpd.conf seem to be OK, so the second Directory error doesn't make sense:
    Alias /iTunes/ "/Users/me/Music/iTunes/"
    <Directory "/Users/me/Music/iTunes/">
    Options +Indexes MultiViews
    AllowOverride None
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
    </Directory>
If I put index.html in the directory apache will find and display it, but still no directory index.
I have a workaround by copying the files to /usr/share/httpd/icons, which DOES show the index:
    <Directory "/usr/share/httpd/icons">
    Options Indexes MultiViews
    AllowOverride None
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
    </Directory>
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Hi--
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
I played around with Apache and came up with a couple of things to look at. I can get it to give me the Hi--
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
I played around with Apache and came up with a couple of things to look at. I can get it to give me the Directory index forbidden by rule: /Users/me/Music/iTunes/ error in the log if I mess up the Directory block by forgetting to put a quotation mark at the head of the block:
    <Directory /Users/charlie/Music/iTunes/">
Also, I can get Apache to show me the 403 error if I have the case wrong on a directory in the path. In other words, if I did "Me" instead of "me" (assuming the home directory really is "me", I get a 403 error. But, strangely enough, it doesn't log it in the error log. So take a real close look at your paths in that directive (I'm assuming you didn't just copy and paste them out, since "me" seems like an unlikely user name).
The "redirect" to the Bonjour name is more likely a result of content negotiation. I'd guess you're asking for the directory without a trailing "/" character. When that happens, Apache does a redirect to the same directory, but adds the trailing "/". You should be able to get around this by always specifying the "/" in the URL. You might also want to look in the Apache Docs at both the ServerName and UseCanonicalName directives.
For example, if you don't care about redirects always working sensibly from outside your network (i.e., the Internet), you could always set the ServerName directive to the IP address of your server inside the LAN. And you could turn off UseCanonicalName, too. That would keep it from trying to use the Bonjour name to construct URLs in situations where it does these redirects.

P.S.--Make sure you back up your http.conf file before you do a lot of hacking at it, just in case. You can always copy in the default, but it's a hassle if you've already done some successful customization...

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

You can't delete any of the built-in apps, but you can hide the iTunes app via Settings > General > Restrictions > iTunes 'off'. For other apps which don't have a Restrictions setting that allows you to hide them you can just move them to your last homescreen or put them into their own 'unused apps' folder so that they are less visible e.g. e.g. press and hold an app and after a second or two they should start to shake, then drag the app (not too quickly) that you want to move ; to create an app folder drag one app onto another and a folder should be created with the both in it - you can then drag more apps into that folder.
In terms of setting the time, you can do that via Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically 'on' or Set Date And Time. Not every world city is listed, so you may have to use Miami in the World Clock.
If you don't already have a copy then you can download a copy of the iPad manual from here, it has a brief chapter on each of the built-in apps (plus iBooks which is a free download from the store) : http://support.apple.com/manuals/ipad/ (there is a section called Customizing iPad in chapter 3 which describes how to do move apps and create folders).

Music/iTunes Match not working properly since update to iOS 7

    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
     Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.

How do you fix a R6025 pure virtual function call error?  When I try to search for music, iTunes freezes & returns this message.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • ITunes stuck to ~/Music/iTunes, can't change folder location

I recently moved all my media files off my local drive and onto a FW-attached RAID device. I changed the iTunes music folder location in Preferences::Advanced to the new location, and BAM, nothing.
If I delete ~/Music/iTunes and restart itunes, it will RECREATE the old folder, and it won't touch the file modification times of the files in the new folder. So basically, it's completely ignoring the folder location set in preferences, and using the default location instead.
Bear in mind that iTunes IS REMEMBERING the new folder location, it's just that it doesn't actually use it. In other words I can change it, but it doesn't care.
Am I screwed? Does Apple DRM prevent me from having my media in a different location than the default?
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Did you just move the music? Or did you move the library files as well?
If you moved the library files as well, then hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iTunes, use the Locate command to navigate to the new location.

  • Do I need to save in my music iTunes library the previous library, iTunes 3 or 4 libraries?

Do I need to save the "previous library", or iTunes 3 or 4 Music Libraries, or the iTunes 4 Music Library (old) in my music/iTunes folder?
    Trying to declutter my library.
Currently using iTunes 10.5.3; therefore, is the old stuff necessary?

    From http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1660
"New versions of iTunes sometimes include enhancements to the iTunes library. When you open the new version of iTunes, iTunes upgrades your existing library to the new format and places a copy of the old library in the Previous Libraries folder. If everything goes fine during your upgrade to the latest version of iTunes, you can delete the older iTunes Library files."
