  • What are the must have apps for Snow Leopard

Just downgraded from Mavericks to Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Just can't stand the frequent beach balls. Was wondering what are the must have apps that are still being updated by the developers?

Most of the apps that comes with OSX 10.6 are not being updated anymore. It would be great if you could recommend apps that are still being updated for security, stability etc for the following:
    1. Email
    2. Browsing
    3. Office Suite (like iWork)
    4. To do List
    5. Photo Editor
    6. P2P / File Sharing
I am aware that there are reviews in the net for best apps, but I am interested to learn what people in this community have used personally and suggest.
    Cheers

ask 100 people and you get 100 opinions.
scout the iTunes app store and find out which apps will suit your needs. you can do that NOW, while you anticipate the arrival of your new toy. it's more fun that way, IMHO

  • Must  have apps for travelling

Taking a driving trip from NY to FL.  Any suggestions for apps that I'll need for finding hotels, gas, food, gps, etc?  I'd like to get these loaded and familiarize myself with them before we leave.  I will have 3G while on the road.

Unless you're travelling the backroads, you should be able to find gas pretty easily, unless you are looking for a specific brand.  For hotels, I use Marriott's app, but usually make my reservations in advance.  I'd use the app only to change a current reservation.  In terms of food, Open Table is good for finding restaurants.  The app will use your "current location" to find restaurants in your vicinity, and you can make a reservation on the go.
Since you mentioned 3G, I assume your iPad has WiFi and 3G, in which case it has GPS built in.  For travel, I've found the built-in Maps app is quite good for showing where you are travelling, as well as providing traffic conditions and directions.

  • Newbie to Mac - which must-have apps do I need?

I just switched from PC to MacBook Pro. What are the must have apps that I have to have?  Do I need virus protection? Antispyware? I want an app to help me keep my Mac cleaned up. Is MacKeeper worth it? Should I stick with Safari or use something else? Is iPhoto all I need for my photos? Should I store my recorded videos in iPhoto videos or in Movies? Do I uninstall programs simply by dragging them to trash? Can you overcharge the battery? Should I unplug it after it's fully charged? Open to any and all advice! Loving my Mac!!!

Browsers should set their own history number of days and quota for size, but they don't , and they can get 'carried away' with web caches, temp files, history. Safari even takes bookmarks and 'caches' it into individual files (so that Spotlight can find bookmarksj!)
So yes I do. I don't like having to do so manually and think there are better ways.
Chrome has and can get huge caches. Safari as well. Mozilla has "auto" and seems to try or you can manually set it to what you want.
Any of the "cache" cleaners can be abused or over-used.
I also like to "intelligently" remove ad-cookies and those that are not needed by me for web sites and that is another vote for using one and no OS X isn't smart enough to be totally self-sufficient.
And all of that will fragment free space. Mac only deals with large files and works pretty well as long as there is "enough" free space to not be an issue. But then I find even cloning the system to a new drive - which also skips copyiing temp files and consolidates free space, works great and I do it regularly (the old drive becomes backup and use the clone as new boot drive).

  • Must Have Accessories For GT 683 R?

What  are some must have accessories for a new MSI GT 683 R laptop?

For example gtx570m card to replace the gtx460m or gtx560m. That thing would rock all the competitors on the market.
I'm sure a lot of people would go for such a possibility.

  • TS3274 Some games we have apps for... Open then shut off and won't stay open.......

Some games we have apps for.......open then shut off and do not stay open... Any ideas?

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
If that doesn't help try quitting the app first then reset the iPad. Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app.
If still no joy try deleting the app an download it again.
Also make sure your iPad has enough free space to operate efficiently. With iOS 7 it is recommended that you have 15-20% of the storage space on the device free.  For a 16 GB device that is 2.4-3.2 GB free. For a 32 GB device that is 4.8-6.4 GB free. For a 64 GB device that is 9.6-12.8 GB free.

  • Must Have Apps & Utilities for first time mac user?

    Hello Everyone,
This is my first mac and I was just wondering if the are any must have system utilities out there. I already have techtool deluxe which came with the apple care cd. I hear a lot of people talking about disk warrior and other programs...so I'm just wondering if there's some sort of a consensus on any must have utilities .
Do macs even really need system utilities like PCs?
Any advice would be very much appreciated,
    Thanks

    My two cents:
There are no "must have" applications or utilities. Anything you must have is already built into the system.
If you run your Mac 24/7 the periodic scripts will take care of themselves. If not, run them once a month with MacJanitor or Onyx or Cocktail or just in Terminal by entering :
    sudo periodic daily weekly monthly
Enter your admin password and press Return. (You will not see your password.)
I'm always very skeptical about getting freeware. This is an unfounded fear. You should fear both equally Actually, there are some excellent freeware apps and some are better than their shareware or even commercial counterparts.
DiskWarrior is an excellent app to have and hopefully never have to use.(EDIT: TechTool Deluxe will also rebuild your directory if needed) I do very little to my Macs, unless I experience some problem which is seldom.
    Enjoy your Mac:)

  • Must have applications for Symbian 3.

Are symbian 3 apps are supported by belle? If yes please provide the names of apps and games for Symbian 3 belle and normal symbian 3 as well.
    Thank You.

There is NOTHING like 'Must have' applications. Its solely user dependant.. An application extremely useful to one user may be totally useless for you and vice-versa... Best is to search on OVI Store or Google and decide yourself..

  • Must have apps. Anyone?

Can you please suggest me some 'must have' free apps. There are thousands and I don't know which should I choose.

If you are looking to download free music and movies here are two apps that might work for you.
I have never, ever tried these, though.
    Free Video Download
    Free Music Download
Both of these have their own players to watch, listen and manage music and video.
By advised that downloading and storing videos on iOS devices will eat up memory fast.
Especially if the videos are not compressed versions.
If you like to watch free streaming videos, movies and music, here are some apps as an option.
    Crackle TV
    Pandora Radio
If you can afford it, there is always iTunes for downlaod music for either 99 cents or $1.29 per song.
Movies and TV shows I find too pricey to regularly rent/purchase from the iTunes Store all of the time.
I only have a couple of shows I purchase by season from iTunes and that's it! And purchase/rent movies from iTunes only every once and awhile if I REALLY want to watch a fairly recent released movie.
If you like regularly watching movies, for $7.99 a month, you can stream and watch Netflix movies and TV to your iDevice ( using Netflix free IOS app) and with an optional/apprpriate purchased audio/video cable from Apple, actually connect the iPad to your TV and watch on whatever TV you own.
You need to have a paying monthly subscription to be able to do this, though.
If you live in the States or Canada, I think this is a very cheap/reasonable option.

  • In my itunes library I have apps for the ipod.  All of the apps were together, and now I have two different sections to my apps. The first one says 44 apps and the second section says 143 apps.  When I connect my ipod only the first section goes on

can anyone help me with my apps on my itunes.  They have separated for some reason.  I have one section of 44 apps and the other has 121 apps. Only the top section will sinc with my ipod because at the side where it says apps, it is only showing the 44 apps and not the section at the bottom

Can you take a screen shot of the iTunes screen and post it? I do not really understand what you  mean by different sections.
What model iPod and iOS do you have? Maybe the section that does not sync are not compatible with the iPod.
Were all the apps purchased with one account?
Do you have any Restrictions one that would prevent syncing? Settings>General>Restrictions.

  • Must have scripts for a DBA

    Hi All,
My requirment may sound a bit vauge but i want to know what all are the scripts a Oracel DBA must have?
Scripts which are releated to monitoring, maintenance and performance realetd.
Kindly shre the same, if you have the same.
    BR
    Sphinx

    hi sphinx,
that is like asking a cook to tell you all the receipts and tools for his favourite dishes.
Although there are common tasks, everyone (I believe) has his own scripts and issues to monitor.
    depends on your tasks.
I would suggest that you define your responsibilities, and from there look for, build, or ask for specific scripts or help for speciific tasks.
    your tasks may involve:
    - db space monitoring
    - os space monitoring
    - performance issues
    - backup monitoring, execution
    - user creation
    - lock problems.
    - error solving
For most of them you can use Grid Control for an overview, or alerts.
You can use the compliance screen (even though some violations may be difficult to correct due to current processes).
contribution (checks tablespace total and free space in MB):
    Select d.tablespace_name ,sum(d.bytes/1024/1024) totalMB,sum( s.bytes/1024/1024) freeMB from dba_data_files d, dba_free_space s where s.tablespace_name=d.tablespace_name group by d.tablespace_name;now adjust it for percentages (more useful).

Looking for suggestions/recommendations for "must have" presets.  I have a couple from the old MacCreate site (B&W and Color Film presets).  Looking for suggestions/recommendations that rival those available for LR4.

Go through and pick the nicest looking ones, download them and then weed through them all one by one, keeping only the best.
