Must install Java 6 Update 7 plugin.

We have a web app that is a core component of our business and it will only run with Java 6 Update 7, It has been tested up to Update 17. From what I finding through the forums, helps and other sources it seems the Firefox 19.0 will not allow this plugin to be installed. I can work with this mess related to allowing one website access to the Plugin, but if Firefox can block the install of the product I would hope that there is some method to over-ride the hard coded language that does not allow java 6 installs if they are older than Update 31.
I would simply switch browsers but there are other considerations that makes the browser swap a bit problematic.

Old Java is not safe on untrusted or compromised sites, so you should be cautious about using it on the wilds of the web. You might consider creating two parallel instances of Firefox, one for your app (with old Java) and another for regular browsing (with newer Java or no Java) in order to limit your vulnerability.
That said, for your "vulnerable" profile, note that Firefox uses a data file to identify unsafe add-ons. By default, a new blocklist.xml is downloaded every 24 hours. This article has more info on the file and related settings: [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Blocklist.xml]. For anyone disabling the blocklist, it becomes more important to take manual action to root out old other insecure plugins manually. The [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/ Plugin Check site] can help with that.
Regarding running multiple Firefox instances/profiles in parallel, see, for example, [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/922363 Two Firefox at the same time, (one with images, other without)?]

How do I un-install Java updates?
Everyone I work with that got the Java 1.6.6 update that went out last night has lost the ability to access database servers.  We need to un-instill that Java update.  Does anyone know how to do this?

The specific database connection problem turned out to be an issue with the MS SQL database driver from Microsoft with this specific Java update.  A working open source option can be found at http://jtds.sourceforge.net/ if anyone else runs into this problem.

You need to update your os to 10.6.8, repair permissions after the installation and restart your computer when done.  Then you should be able to install all the other updates from Software Update.  If you have a lot which I imagine you do, install 2 at a time.  After all the installations are done repair permissions and restart your computer.

  • Cannot install Java update or uninstall old version (Java error 1714)

    Hello,
When I try to install a Java upadate it fails. When doing the installation for the new version from java.com it gives the message (translated form Dutch):
+"The function you wish to use is located on a networked location which is not available. Click OK to try again or type in the field below another path to where installation package jre1.6.0_26-c-l.msi is located"+
When I cancel the installation it gives the following message:
+"Error 1714. The older version of Java(TM) 6 update 31 cannot be removed. Contact you technical support group."+
I tried the solution according to Java located at http://www.java.com/nl/download/help/error_1714.xml where it says to delete the java installation first and then install the offline package. The only problem is that I cannot seem to uninstall the current installation in my remove software list. The version there is called"Java(TM) 6 Update 29". When I want to uninstall this it gives the same message when installing the update:
+"The function you wish to use is located on a networked location which is not available. Click OK to try again or type in the field below another path to where installation package jre1.6.0_26-c-l.msi is located"+
I tried to get rid of the entire java installation by using:
    - Scanned for blocking virusses, no virruses found
    - JavaRa did not succeed in deleting current version
    - Tried installing to offline package, no success
    - Running all steps in administrator mode
None of it any succes. None of the Java using websites seem to work anymore and I can't seem to fix this. Anybody know of a solution?

Hey dude, i had this same problem and i think i've found a fix. Go to this link http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall and download the tool. It should run you through some steps. I followed the steps for having trouble uninstalling and then eventually it gives you the option to choose the application you are having problems with from a list.
Just choose the older java version and it will remove it for you. Check the windows program list and the Java entry should be properly uninstalled and you can then install the latest version of Java. Worked for me - hope it does for you :)Huh! Thanks, bookmarked that link. Very useful indeed!

  • Cannot install Flash update Plugin 10.1.53.64 in Firefox

I am runing XP Home SP3 in 32 bit.  I am using Firefox and have Flash 10.0.45.2 installed.  I received an email from Adobe to update Plugin to 10.1.53.64 but Firefox did not install it.  I then went to Firefox Plugins and it told me I should update the Adobe Flash Plugin.  I clicked on it but it still would not update.

Hi, I think since we are talking about 2 different versions of Flash Player and IE & FF, etc. it is best to check and see exactly what is Installed.
Go go C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash  Right click on Flash and Open. Post back all files listed with version numbers. Now the FF files NPSWF you will need to right click on each one and then click on Properties in order to obtain the version numbers.
We want to be sure of this before Installing in case we need to Uninstall first. Also to be sure NOT to Uninstall if we don't need to. Better safe than sorry:-)
If you need to have direction in getting to the Flash folder, just let me know.
    Thanks,

  • I installed java with plugins and still can't open documents with .jar. Do I have to direct it to C:\Acer\ProgramFiles\ and how do I change?

I have been trying to open a .jar file on a new Acer laptop. I installed the JAVA, however, when I try to open the .jar files it only brings me back to install Java. The computer is an Acer and the program files are located at C:\Acer\ProgramFiles instead of C:\program files. Do I need to change the web browser somehow to read at C:\Acer\ProgramFiles\?

What kind of .jar file do you try to open and why?
The .jar files that Firefox uses for a theme are not Java files, but are ZIP archives that store the theme files.<br />
You can use "File > Open File" or drag the .jar file in the "Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes" window to install the theme.

  • Help please need to install java update 3

Just updated to java update 4. I have medical software on the computer and it breaks. I need to roll back one version. Can anyone help me out with this? 10.6.6 OS

OK, there is a method, but it is risky at best. Backup your data before proceeding*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
Note where it says on these instructions rm -rf:
    http://weblogs.java.net/blog/joshy/archive/2007/11/howto_removej.html
Change that "f" instruction to i (the letter I as in I am).
    So you would say:
sudo rm -ri /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/(whatever the version is that is newer)
If you are unsure of the version, look it up first by typing:
    ls -aF /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/
And determine which ones are newer.
Answer 'n' to the rm once files are listed that you don't want. Careful not to go trigger happy with the 'y' as it automatically takes every 'y' response as an affirmative.

  • Matlab font issues after installing Java Update 2

    Hey everyone,
I am a scientist and I use the program Matlab to prepare plots for papers, presentations, etc. I am already a little annoyed that when running matlab on mac there are issues of text content cut off in the figures. More importantly after the java update 2 the matlab font looks HUGE. If you change the font setting, it will look normal, but sometimes shift the text. Does anyone know how to fix this? Matlab provided a fix for the R2008 version, but nothing for the R2007 version. This program is so important to me and my work, I may have to move back to Microsoft or Linux in order to have MatLab produce the plots I need.
Please let me know if there is an efficient way to fix this problem.
    Thanks,
    Casey

    Hi clamarche,
I have the same problem on my dual quad-core MacPro after updating Java to Java Update 3. All of my font settings were reset. However when I change the font from 12 pt to say 10pt the cursor moves as if the 12 pt font is still used so it does not line up with any characters once a few characters into the line.
I have tried removing all of my preferences and global matlab preferences, but no luck. I have not applied the Java Update 3 to my 17" MacBookPro as to avoid this problem. What version of Matlab are you using? I have R2007b.
As for text being cut-off from your plots, I have found a small but important note to do with the '-r' option for the print command. On the Mac OS X platform, for some unknown reason you should always set the resolution to '-r72'. This has fixed the problem for me. I had the same problem when saving figures as png's that were to be used later to make an animation. All of the scaling was funny until I set the resolution to 72.
I am hoping that I can find as solution. Maybe clearing the Java preferences, where ever they may be.

  • To view this content you must install java - ERROR

I DO have java!!!  I have JRE version 8.25 to be precise. So why, on startup do I always get this silly message which then goes on to tell me that I have version 7 installed.
I DONT - I have searched and deleted every **** trace of version 7 - and reinstalled version 8.25 everywhere - BUT STILL this stupid pop error up appears every time I restart! I wouldn't mind but its giving wrong info! So how do I fix it?

I had the same problem and it drove me crazy every time I turned on my Mac.  I found the proper download here:

  • Java update 2012-006 did not remove Java plugin from any browser

I successfully installed Java update 2012-006 via Software Update on my iMac running OS X Lion 10.7.5 (German) and it updated the Java runtime to version 1.6.0_37 and removed the Java Preferences application as expected, but it did not remove the Java plugin from any browser!
Safari and Firefox can still use the Java plugin as before.
I repaired permissions, rebooted, manually downloaded Java update 2012-006 and successfully installed it again without any change to the Java plugin: it is still present on my system and fully functional from any browser!
The web is full with messages from users missing the Java plugin after installing this update - but I could not find anything about the plugin not being removed!
Is anyone experiencing the same behaviour under Lion? I thought this would happen only under Snow Leopard...
What should I do now? Can I really trust this "successfull installation" of Java update 2012-006 on my system?
    Thanks,
    Michael

Thanks - I will keep the symlink in place and I won't touch the Deploy bundle, because I need the plugin in Safari and I don't need Oracle's Java 7 for now...
If the plugin is supposed to stay in the Deploy bundle, this could help others who miss the plugin - they could just recreate the symlink, right?
To summarize I think we can state, that the Java update 2012-006 for Lion and Mountain Lion sometimes leaves the symlink in /Library/Internet Plugins/ untouched.
The circumstances that lead to this behaviour are still unknown.
The install log in Console shows that the scripts to create links and to delete obsolete files ran okay, but there was an error with the "postinstall" script. In spite of this the installation succeeded:

Does anybody know what "com.apple.mrt.uiagent" and "com.apple.mrt" stands for?
Obviously the "postinstall" script provides an invalid argument (at least on my system).
I have no idea if this is related to the Java Plugin symlink not being removed...

  • Java update 51 for mac os x

I’ve tried to login to the XMF for my company to send artwork to a printer on both Chrome Version 34.0.1847.116, Safari Version 7.0.3 (9537.75.14) and Firefox 27.0. I think I have the most recent version of Java installed but I can't find out which version it is. The web application XMF is telling me that it doesn't support Java updates over 51.
I can’t seem to delete Java from my machine, I’m running a Mac with Mac OS 10.9 (mavericks), I’ve enabled the root user and done a search for the ‘JavaAppletPlugin.plugin’, but this didn’t result in anything, I don’t feel experienced enough to mess with Terminal. Can anyone help. Ultimately I want to install Java update 51 for mac os x I think 64 bit.
    Thanks Sarah.

Yes, it's Java update 16 for Mac OS 10.6 that broke lots of stuff.  The 51 comes from it updating Java to 1.6_51.  There is an update to the update for 10.7 and up posted, but is there one for 10.6?
UPDATE:  Never mind.  If you go to the download page for Java update 16, it appears that it has been silently updated.  Although there isn't any indication of the fact that it has been fixed, the build number is different (20.51-b01-457 instead of -456).

  • QLA 3.5 broken since java update

The latest java update from apple was installed on our G5 PPC last week. Since then our clients are unable to access the Quark License Administrator (ver 3.3, 3.5, 4.0). It worked fine before the update. The java prefs are set to use 1.4.2 first. We now get the following error:
-A suitable JVM could not be found. Pleas run the program again using the option -is:javahome [java home directory]
    [process completed].
The Quark techs sent me a script that didn't work. They also sent me the unreleased 4.0 version. It errored saying "Unable to locate java on your system. You must install java to install the QLA 4.0 software".
    Does anyone have any suggestions/tips/tricks/advice?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is used for higher education and classes started today.
    Brian D. Meer

Try this - I beleive it will deal with all the various issues- including permissions and Java versions- First change Java versions per earlier post
he following worked for me with QLA 3.5:
    1. Run the application /Applications/Utilities/Java/J2SE 5.0/Java Preferences
    2. In the 'General' tab of this application, select to use "J2SE 1.4.2" as the version of Java to use in the 'Java Applet Runtime Settings'.
    3. In the 'Java Application Runtime Settings', drag & drop J2SE 1.4.2 to the top of the list (above J2SE 5.0).
    4. Click 'Save'.
    5. In command line type - sudo su root
    6. Feed in password
    7. Execute the following (paste it in to save typing)
    /Volumes/QLA\ 3.5/Mac/QLA\ 3.5\ Installers/QLA\ Server\ 3.5\ Install.command -is:javahome /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.4.2/Home/ ; exit
    8. You should see
    InstallShield Wizard
    Initializing InstallShield Wizard...
    Searching for Java(tm) Virtual Machine...
    ........exit
    9. Go growl at Quark for making us have to do such silly things.

Installed Java update three days ago.  Now, can't play yahoo games as it's now blocked by security settings.  Already have tried moving Java security to Medium and adding yahoo.games.com (including web address of game) as a "Permissive exception".   Also tried removing java and installing older version.  Still nothing.  Really Apple?!?  What's your beef with yahoo games?

    csnorth,
all of the older update versions of Java SE 7 can be found here. If 7u45 also didn’t work with your Yahoo! games, you can choose from any of the even older versions there as well.
