Must load drivers before software update??

I work for an entertainment technology company. We just started manufactuing with Quad for our media servers. This is client based OS, not server. We are loading with the 10.4.4 disk, doing a software update, and then download the necessary drivers for our hardware and pci cards... like our BlackMagic Decklink Extreme PCIe card. When we download these drivers, we either get generic icons with no application, or the install says to try installing again. After a few days of calling support, downloading stuffit, calling blackmagic support and so on... I figured out a strange pattern. If we have a Quad right out of the box, non-installed. We then install the disk for 10.4.4, and before the software update we install the drivers for blackmagic they will install correctly. Then we proceed to the software update and so on. What does this mean?!?! Is it a 10.4.6 issue? Is it the security update?
This doesnt fix our problem though. We can easily do things in a different order, but the computers we previously installed on will not work this way. After I do an erase and install on the 10.4.4 disk, it still wont recognize the drivers even before the software update. I am confused. How do I get these 4 other computer back to the basics... nothing there... no OS... so I can get these things to work as well as my Dual processors did?!

No... this fixed it. Don't know why.
Before we were installing in this order:
Install 10.4.4 disk.
Software update.
Download drivers
Drivers for blackmagic not recognizing the card.
Instead we tried:
Install 10.4.4 disk.
Download drivers.
Icons show correctly and computer recognizes the card.
Then do software update.
If I do all of them in this order, then they are fine. Of course, you should eat the candy BEFORE you take off the wrapper. haha

That is true - I apologize for not being specific - what I was mainly referring to is iLife applications. I have a notice on the App Store that says 3 apps need updates, I look at the apps and they are huge so since my connection is so slow I use my work connection and d'load the files from support to my Windows machine and carry them home, once d'loaded my MacAir states it cannot install, the update must come from the App Store.
I do the same thing for large Leopard and Lion files and I can install them without error, it is just the App Store files that the system stops.

Safari can't load pages and software update don't work!

Hi! Today I bought a time capsule to use it for time machine and for internet. After the installation and after the airport utility gives me the green light for all I try to enter a webpage. Safari doesn't worked at all. I try to use firefox and everything was ok. I try to connect with the ethernet port and the same here. The imail is fine and only with firefox can open pages but I have the same issue with the software update, it says that connection timed out! I don.t understand what happened I'll try some setting later but if someone have any idea pls help me. Thnx! It's the very first time I have an issue with my mac and I feel terible!

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Safari won't load after latest software update

After the latest software update from Apple, Safari won't load. I've deleted the p.list and run OnyX to clean the system. It still won't load. This is a pain as Safari is my default browser and I have to get into Safari to change that. Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it?

Actually you can change your default browser from within Mail, just go to Mail preferences and set the default browser to whatever you want. Unless you have cloned your system (before the update)which I heartily recommend,
you may have to use Pacifist to extract Safari from
the 10.4 installation package.

Supported Printer not showing in list of drivers after software update

I'm trying to install a supported printer HP LaserJet M1132 (M1130 Series) to my Mac Book Pro Retina (Mavericks) both directly using USB and on a network connected to a Windows XP Server.
I started by performing a software update and downloaded an infinite list of HP Drivers, excluding mine apparently.
I checked here: OS X: Printer and scanner software available for download and it is supported (this procedure is also supported on the HP website)
Network Installation:
1. Software Update
2. System Preferences
3. +
4. workgroup > server-pc > HPLaserJetM1132 (already installed an working on the XP server)
5. Use: Choose a Driver...
6. Select Software
7. DEAD END mine is not listed (tried also Generic Post Script and Generic PCL)
I also added the ADVANCED button and tried connecting directly using SMB and it works, except that I don't find the driver.
USB Installation:
1. Software Update
2. System Preferences
3. +
4. Default
5. Use: Choose a Driver...
6. Select Software
7. DEAD END
My question is, is there something else I should be doing? Do you know of a different driver that matches? Should I be posting this on an HP forum instead?

I finally managed to print from Mac OSX Mavericks on an HP LaserJet Pro M1132 MFP connected to a Windows XP Server.
Printing on the M1132 Via USB
1. Perform Software Update. If you're lucky, your printer driver will be there.
2. Connect the printer to your Mac.
3. If everything is OK, your printing should be enabled
4. If your driver is not available, try this link: HP Printer Drivers v.2.16.1 for OS X
5. If you get the message "The disk inserted is not readable by this computer" you need to
repair your disk permissions, in which case follow these steps:
1. Open Finder.
2. Select Apps.
3. Search for Disk Utility and open it.
4. Select the drive the OS is installed on.
5. Click Repair Disk Permissions.
Printing on the M1132 via network with printer connected to a Win XP Computer
On Windows XP:
1. Install the printer using the supplied driver or download one from the supplier website.
2. From Start > Printers and Faxes, right click on the printer and share. Choose a short name (ideally less than 13 characters for your printer. E.g. in my case it's M1132)
3. Make sure that you know this computer's IP address. (Ideally it is a static IP and not assigned via DHCP)
4. Install LPD. On Win XP, this is done by going to Control Panel, Add Remove Programs, Windows Components and check "Other Network File and Print Services"
On Mac:
1. Perform Software Update.
2. Go to System Preferences and then Printers and Scanners
3. Click on the +, and "Add Printer or Scanner"
4. Click on "Advanced" If you don't have one, right click and customise your toolbar.
5. In Advanced, choose "LPD/LPR" for Type and type in your URL to the printer.
E.g. lpd://192.168.1.50/M1132
6. Choose a name
7. For Use: "Select Software" and choose your driver. If you cannot see your driver, download the latest (for HP) from here: HP Printer Drivers v.2.16.1 for OS X

Safari not loading some pages; Software Update stalls - Log Provided

Safari won't load certain pages, times out, and Software Update stalls.
Have reset Safari, emptied cache, etc. but no change. May be more pervasive than just Safari. What to do next?

Thanks, Joseph. Tried it last night on my laptop and it didn't help. I still have lots of similar error messages not related to Stuffit. I am getting frustrated. Sometimes Safari is OK, but I have great difficulty logging in to secure sites like my bank and brokerage accounts. Software Update still stalls. Sometimes I have difficulty logging into this site. But, some websites load OK. I can access all of them on my Windows computer in my office.

Blackberry frozen at 3/4 loading bar after software update

Hello I have blackberry torch9810, it suddenly started restarting after i disconnected from my laptop. The laodaing bar completes and starts again from the beginning so I guess it is in restarting loop. I tried removing the battery and connecting it with dektop software, it gave me the option to retry connecting or updtae it. I did the update, all went well it downloads the software, installs it and then at the end it gets stuck on the message "connecting to the device". The loading bar on the phone's screen freezes at almost 75%. Any suggestions? please help.......

i've just updated my safari to 5.1.7 and now after the update it just wont load pages
i tried to install an older virsion and the same thing happens
also ive tried to fully remove the software and reinstall it.

HT4718 After loading the last software update my startup password doesn't work. How do I fix this?

I loaded the latest OS X software and I keep getting an error indication when I put in my password. If I shut it down completely and reboot it goes to a page with my login and guest login. If I click on my picture I enter my computer. I try to reset my password and it doesn't recognize my old password.

[Mac] Caution on Updating Epson drivers via Software Update- 3800

I ran the Apple supplied updater for Epson drivers, and my 3800 dialog slipped backwards; this on my G5 desktop. The cure was easy enough: ran the Uninstaller that exists in the Beta 3800 driver, and reinstalled.
One of the more disturbing "features" is that the Summary will tell you you're printing in either 360 x360 'DPI', or 720 x 720 'DPI', even when you're printing at high levels, say 1440 or 2800 DPI.
Even if it's trying to tell you it's receiving data at 360 PPI, it's usually not the case. Kinda makes me feel uncomfortable using this "update".

You should be able to get any updates from Apple via the Support/Downloads on the main Apple.com page. Any peripheral drivers that Apple has not updated would need to be downloaded from the manufacturer's web site.

Mac pro stuck at apple logo loading screen after software updates

I have an older MBP from 2008 - was prompted to do updates tonight and let it update and restart. It gets stuck at the gray apple loading screen and does nothing else. Have tried resetting PRAM and booting in safe mode. Safe mode works fine but nada on normal. Also tried giving it plenty of time to boot but it continues to load (with the little circle animation under the logo) and nothing ever happens.
Any ideas or suggestions? grateful for any help!! :(

Try starting your computer with the original DVD that came with your Mac Pro then run disk utility on your hard drive to repair it. If you are running Mac OS X 10.7 then start your computer in Mac recovery mode (command + R) then run disk utility on your hard drive.

Rendered preview files not loading after mavericks software update

Welcome to the real world!
Apple software ***** and have done that for a long time. Its unbeliveable that we all time after time will pay so much for all these problems.
I have also an iTouch 3g and and a Philips DMP 580 speaker with dockstation. And my 3g worked perfekt with iOS 4.3.5 in the dockingstation until today where I upgraded to iOS 5.0.
After that I can´t I powerload or use the speakers in the musicsystem anymore.
How can anyone release such a OS if they know anything about programming OS software ?
Its completely madness that we have to spend so much time on something that should have been OK when released :-(
And now I can´t return to my latest iOS 4.3.5 anymore and I can´t find anywhere someone that can tell me how to do downgrade iOS 5.0 to iOS 4.3.5 - if possible !!!

My iphone 4s was loading a software update and went into recovery mode, I don't want to lose all my data please help me@!

I was loading the latest software update to "fix bugs and security issues" and my phone went into "recovery mode". I've never seen this before. I plugged it into iTunes as shown on the screen of my phone and it says "Iphone in recovery mode detected" and suggested resetting the phone to factory settings. I don't want to lose all my data so is there another way to fix it? All help will be appreciated!

Sorry, whatever data you had on your phone has been wipe off already, since your phone is in recovery mode.
You will need to restore your phone. Then if you have a backup, you can choose that backup to restore from, if you have no backup, your only option is to sync contents from iTunes.
