Must render after capture

I've recently started experiencing a render problem that I've never encountered before.
Editing on a dual 2.7ghz G5 at my work, when I capture DVCPRO video through a DeckLink Extreme card using Blackmagic NTSC 29.97Hz as my device control capture setting and Blackmagic NTSC - 8 bit as my capture/input setting - the captured video shows the orange render bar once imported into a FCP sequence - requiring long render times before I can begin editing video.
In the past, I've always captured video with no need for rendering until effects/edits were made. Can anyone clue me into what's going on here? I don't recall when my last software update was - but I'm running OS X (10.4.8) and FCP 5.1.4. I thought I might have ran across something on an earlier post here that an FCP upgrade could be the root of my problem??? I believe I'm running the same version of FCP on my MacBook Pro at home without this problem - the only difference is I'm capturing DV video at home and DVCPro (50) here at work. At work and at home I'm capturing to external firewire hard drives.
Can anyone help?
My apologies if I haven't provided enough info about this situation. I'll be glad to add to the info I've provided if anyone can let me know what's needed to help diagnos this issue! Thanks a ton in advance!!!

OK, here's where my ignorance shines through...
I right-clicked on my clip in the bin and didn't see any options for attributes, so instead I went to item properties - where under the format tab I got this info: (I'm only including what I think is applicable here)
VIDEO:
video rate: 29.97fps - frame size: 720 x 486 - compressor: uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2 - data rate: 20.3 MB/sec - pixel aspect: NTSC - CCIR 601
AUDIO:
Audio: 2 Mono - Aud Rate: 48KHz - Aud Format 24-bit Integer
Are these the video/audio settings that I need to match in my capture settings? When I go into my FCP audio/video settings my sequence preset is currently set to: DV NTSC 48kHz. My capture preset is Blackmagic NTSC - 8 Bit. My device control preset is Blackmagic NTSC 29.97Hz. Video playback is Blackmagic NTSC - 8 bit (720 x 486). Audio playback is DeckLink audio.
So... I just changed the above-mentioned settings to what I thought would be correct...
Sequence preset to Blackmagic NTSC - 8 bit
Capture preset to Blackmagic NTSC - 8 bit
Device control preset to Blackmagic NTSC 29.97Hz
Video playback to Blackmagic NTSC 8-bit (720 x 486) and
Audio playback at DeckLink Audio
... Just tried another capture attempt and I'm still having the same problem. Orange render bar!!!
Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong???

  • DigiVox A/D - Cannot render audio capture

Hello, i have DigiVOX A/D. I configured it and I can watch TV. But when I try to capture it, there is a "Cannot render audio capture" message. I tried a lot of parameters changes but nothing helped. Can you please help?
    Juso

So I did some more testing. Now it works this way:
I can watch TV and it works OK. When I click capture it doesn't work and it writes error message "Cannot render audio capture". I go to settings and setup to capture only audio. I try to capture. I do some more modifications. It still doesn't work. But on some point of configuration (I could't find exaxtly when) the sound stops during watching. And if I try to capture at that time, it captures OK with audio and video. It doesn't matter whether I use Mpeg 2 or Mpeg 4. Both works. So I think codecs are OK. And it works so (no audio during watching and good audio and video during capture) till I close the application. When I start it again, there is sound when watching and error when clicking capture button. And again I can do some settings modification (random) and after some config steps it start capture but stops audio while watching.

  • 17" MacBook Pro freezes after Capture to external hard drive!!!!!! HELP!!

Ok, so i just got my new MacBook Pro and Final Cut Studio last week, and i was so excited, until this happened. I was trying to log and capture a clip to my 500GB LaCie Big Disk and everything seemed to be going fine until the clip got to the end of it's alloted time and then the computer just froze. When I closed the lid and let the laptop sleep and opened it again the clip is in place and everything seems fine. I tried capturing then w/ the LaCie plugged into the FW8oo port and my miniDV Deck plugged into the FW4oo, and it froze again after capture and then worked fine after closing the lid. Thinking I was crowding my Fire Wire bus I hooked up an external USB 2.0 drive and my deck to the fire wire , but the same thing happened. So then I tried capturing to my internal and it worked fine. I've captured to an external on my 17" iMac G5 w/ Final Cut HD for years and never had a problem. Any tips? This closing the lid thing just isn't going to work.

nope, david is right on the mark. powermacs with one firewire bus choke like this. i can't understand why apple continues to design with one firewire bus but i'm not a designer. anyone, ANYONE who uses firewire harddrives and firewire tape machines/cameras for editing NEEDS to invest in a seperate sort of firewire card (pick your flavor) and then we'd see this behavior go away. then there will be those that will whine "this never happened before!" it's happening now, firewire cards a cheap insurance against these issues.

  • Audio and video out of sync after capture from Canon

Help for a newbie please?  I have a Canon XHA1S and have a problem after capturing HD video.  After capturing a 40 minute clip, the  audio and video are out of sync.  Seems like there is about a 3 second difference.  The entire clip is like that in the source window; I made a couple of quick edits and have the same problem in the program window.  Tried exiting and re-opening PP, but that didn't help.  I'm running PP in CS6 on an iMac 3.4 GHz i7 with 8G of ram.  Thanks!

I have NOT used it, but many say to try this for HDV capture http://strony.aster.pl/paviko/hdvsplit.htm

I'm capturing into CS3 premiere pro - Cannon Vixia HV30 and HV40 cameras, HDV 1080i30 (i60) project settings.
When playing the video in the timeline after capture, the audio in many spots loops and repeats on itself.  The raw captured video when played via a media player works fine.  Any suggestions on audio settings or a fix for this problem.  Attached is a screen capture of my project settings.

  • Audio out of sync in premiere pro cs6 after capturing

Hi, some of my footages are out of audio sync after capturing.
I have an imac with 3.4 Ghz intel i7 processor, 16gig ram, ssd card  ( august 2012)
    I have a sony hvr-z1 with tape.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Good morning Lynn,
I doubt this will help, but whenever I have issues importing tapes, I try
something else. I double check the software's manual because
sometimes, even if I have done the same thing several times, I add
or miss something. If that does not work I close the program and restart
the computer and camcorder and try again ... with a different tape. If
that doesn't work I use a different program. I use an old HP workstation
I paid $99 for on Ebay that's running XP and I capture with Scenalyzer.
Then I copy file to a USB drive and input to Premiere. Sorry, I figure the
problem is me, not the hardware or software and it usually is me because
when the next project comes along PP usally imports fine.

  • Audio is out of sync after capture.

I'm attempting an firewire capture from a DV source. When I'm logging clips and previewing them, the sound is fine, but when I view them after capture the audio is out of sync. I think I'm having timecode issues, is there any way around this?

I tried watching them in the timeline and viewer, all out of sync. No external monitor. I did get a message once about dropped frames and something else, it said I might have these issues, but it didn't tell me to change settings, just told me it was gonna happen, lol. So, I don't know where to start to fix it.

  • Audio dropping after capture

I seem to be having a problem with audio dropping out after capturing. When I play the tape back in the camera the audio plays fine so I guess it was recoreded properly on the tape but when I play the captured footage back in FCP the audio drops out here and there. I am capturing from the camera which the footage was shot on (XL2). I've searched the forms for people with the same issue but can't find anything. Anyone have any ideas?

Just to check - are you using FCP4.5 and have recently upgraded to OSX4.9? Because if so that could be the issue; it was for me for something very similar. In which case your options are to upgrade FCP or downgrade OSX.
The other thing you could try - regardless of your system and version - is to capture using Vidi - http://www.mitzpettel.com/software/vidi.php (I only just recommended this to someone, I am not on commission honestly, it's free!)
I have found that Vidi will sometimes ignore timecode glitches etc that FCP is annoyingly sensitive to.

  • AUDIO LOST AFTER CAPTURE

Hi all. I am capturing from a panasonic gs 400 which indicates 16 bit audio captured ok. Tape plays back fine in camera with full audio. I have checked my settings on fce and they seem fine, pal 16 bit audio.
When I start to capture the audio registers ok in the right hand audio meter. After I capture and play the clip in the viewer/timeline there is no audio at all. Running short of ideas to fix it, any clues?
    Many Thanks

Hi Ian, thanks for taking the time to reply.
    I am using FCE 2.0.3
I have captured video and audio before without any problems.
The audio file appears in the timeline but there is nothing in it, the visuals are fine.
It plays fine in the viewer and registers on the meter but there is no audio after capture.
I do not seem to have the View menu>Video out etc, my system just shows view> video>reatime or firewire.
    Thanks Mick

  • Poor Quality after Capturing the 1080i Source

I use the camera that the model is Sony HDR-HC3.
When i capture the 1080i source recorded by above model,
the source in Final Cut Express HD is very poor.
The image will break in several shadow when the shot is presenting
movement, as like pan left/right, tilt up/down etc.
When I export the movie used the H.264, it's much more poor.
    What's wrong is happened?
    Thank you for reply.
p.s.May i post the screen picture that Final Cut Express HD presenting
    after capture?

    Melfice,
I had the same problem. I tried different FW & HD settings and still got poor quality. Then I tried an HD tape and got the same results. So, I took my Sony back and traded for Canon's new HD (HV10), and found the quality to be MUCH better. I don't know why and would rely on someone with bigger brains for that answer.

  • Premiere Freezes After Capture

After capturing footage on an HDV miniDV from my camera the screen pretty much goes white.  It's right after the "Save Captured Clip" box comes up and I name the clip.  It seems to have a problem closing the capture window and loading the new clip into the project box.
Also, after capture and after clicking OK in the "Save Captured Clip" box a window pops up telling me there was a problem with video playback.  But since I was able to hit cancel after the first time it pops up after capturing and continue on to the "Save Captured Clip" box, I figured it wasn't too big of a deal that I not be able to see the footage in the capture screen.
A completely usable clip is successfully saved to my scratch that I can edit.  But I don't want this happening every time I want to capture.
    My Workflow:
    Turn my computer on.
    Connect my camcorder through firewire.
    Turn camcorder to VCR mode.
    Open Premiere.
    Open or start a project.
    Open the capture window.
    Click the record button.
Click the stop button. (a window comes up telling me there was a problem with video playback but it keeps going anyway)
The "Save Captured Clip" box comes up and I name it and click OK (the window telling me there was a problem with video playback comes up again)
    Thanks!

  • Out of sync directly after capture

    Hi
Though New to FinalCut I'm trying to learn. I've got stuck with a situation
    I can't handle:
After capturing material. Recorded in SP-mode and 16-bit sound. When
double clicking on audio to get the wave form in Canvas window I get a
significand miss match of Left / Right sound track.
Is there anything I can do to prevent this.
There are no echo/sync problem when same material is imported to iMovie !
    used environment: dG5 2GHz, OS X.4.6, QT 7.1 and FCE 3.5
    Yours most confused Bengt W

Hi and thanx for Your thoughts.
No just plain DV-PAL and Camera is on 16-bit.
    Intermediat solution was to:
    - start a new FCE project
    - Capture sequence
    - open main project
    - drag and drop sequence into this one
    Worked but rather confusing.
I think Capture to be THE most basic function in an editing program
henche it would be the last function to go bananas.
I was also recommended to delete pref - FCE.plist file. Will do that.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Glitch-y footage has more glitches after capture.  HDV.  Of course.

I've been all over here & can't find an answer . . . switched a trashed JVC deck for a JVC Gy-HD100, which I've used succesfully with my spankin' new FCP 5.1.2 update to capture HDV 720p24. There are some digital blips/dropout in the raw footage, which you can see in the LCD screen on the camera, but there is considerably more when I playback in FCP. I used the 720p24 Easy Setup and the clip info looks good. Any idea why I've got more digital crap after capture? It's all kinds, too: lines, warping, pixels, ect, every few secs or so. I even made a dvd of a clip just to check, and it outputs crappy as well. Did I do something wrong? Any advice?
    hdv i hate you so.

My first instinct would be to clean the heads as well.
I don't have much experience with HDV, but I do know dropouts tend to be even more problematic with the GOP (I believe its 15 frame GOP, which would mean half second dropouts). I'm wondering if perhaps whatever compression/decompression FCP uses to playback HDV is just going to make issues like that worse. Just a guess, I could be wrong.

  • Zero timecode after capture

I'm having issues with sporadic zeroing out of timecode after capture. I have two identical systems running FCP 5.1.2 and capturing with AJA Kona 3 cards running version 3.2. All of the capture presets are identical.
The process that I've been using on both systems have been as follows:
    Creating a new project
Importing an XML into the project
Batch capture from the Kona card as 1080psf 23.98 DVCPro HD
The odd thing is that one system (only one of the two) sporadically zeros out the preset captured timecode for the entire XML, thusly changing a logged clip that was set to start at 13:21:14:05 and forcing it to start at 00:00:00:00. The duration of the clip remains a constant. A usual fix for this is making the captured clips offline, trashing the FCP preferences, restarting FCP and rebatching. That usually fixes it for a few days, but inevitably returns to the same old problem. I've also tried reinstalling FCP, but that hasn’t resolved it. Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks for your help!

So, is there a way to get FCP to display Zero-Based
timecode for an individual clip? Or to get After
Effects to read the timecode embedded with the clip?
    No and no.
    Have you looked at this?
