Must render every clip ????

Hi All,
I shot a project using the XL2 in 24p /16:9 in FCP I'm using the 24p preset but everytime iI bring a clip in the timeline it must be render. Can you guys tell what I'm doing wrong or is it normal for this to happen. If there is a work around please post it. I have a music video to complete but having to render every clip in the timeline is going to take forever.
Thanks.

#28 Having to render every clip in the timeling
Shane's Stock Answer #28: When I put a clip in the timline, I have to render it before it will play. Why?
Your clip settings MUST match your timeline settings. If you have DV/NTSC material, you need a DV/NTSC timeline. The frame rate, audio rate and dimensions (4:3, 16:9) all need to match exactly.
The most important thing you need to do is properly set up your project from the start. It is always advisable to use the Easy Setups. Here is an in-depth article on the topic:

  • Must render every file first????

    Hi,
From reading other posts this sounds like it may be a firewire/pci card/ external hard drive issue. I cannot import onto my external hd (which is set up for Mac OS extended) from FCP. I either have to import onto the G5's internal HD then copy onto the external hd or use iMovie to import clips directly to external hd. But now that they are there, when I bring them into a FCP project, they hiccup in the viewer and when I drag them into the timeline, they all have to be rendered first. I have never had that problem. It is already a hassle enough the way I have to get clips onto the external hd, am I stuck with rendering each clip or is there a setting that I must not have right.
    Thanks
    Dave
PS Each clip plays just fine as a standalone Quicktime File.

Don't capture with iMovie. It saves as a different type of file that FCP does not like.
Make sure your sequence settings match the clips you are putting on there (which will be impossible for files captured in imovie). The biggest cause of having to render every file is sequence settings that don't match the video clips being put on the sequence.

  • Capturing 24p, and have to render every clip.

Hi all. Thanks for your time. After reading all the 24p articles in here, I thought I had it straight: I shot 24p normal (16:9) on an xl2, and captured it on FCP 4.5 using the "DV NTSC 48 kHz Anamorphic" setting for Capture as well as for the Sequence Preset. However, I still have to render (red line) ever time I bring a clip into the timeline! What am I doing wrong?? Please someone help, and thank you for your time.

You shooting in PAL land? You have a PAL camera????
Stating the obvious, but thought I'd get that out of the way...
Do us a favor... find the item properties window for the CAPTURED clips and read it down for us.
Then... Apple-Zero the sequence you've created and read down THOSE settings.
    Thanks,

  • Having to render every clip: follow up

    Hi,
I read the thread below, but I have additional questions.
I've imported video captured from a VCR in eyeTV. The size is 640 x 480.
In the sequence I've created, I notice that the size is 720 x 480.
Is this the genesis of my rendering problem?
Is there a way to edit the sequence so that it matches the video resolution?
Thanks very much for your help.
    DJ

Yes to the first question, no to the second. You have to convert the media to the correct video format, codec and frame rate.

  • Do I need to Render every time I make a to the audio or video?

Today is the first time I have seriously considered using Final Cut Pro. This software was purchased for me (without my knowing) by the company I am working for to be used for simple editing and exporting. Recently I have been using iMovie and have been creating adequate videos, but figured it is time to upgrade to a "pro" software. That has been a big mistake.
It seems like every time I make a change to the subclip in the timeline I need to Render the movie; if not, additions like transitions, audio filters, or simple changes are unplayable. For instance, when I adjust an audio filter (hum remover, for example) and try to preview the movie in the canvas, all I see is video accompanied by an annoying beeping sounding. Once I render the movie, I can I finally hear the expected audio.
I am convinced I am doing something wrong, but I haven't noticed my mistakes in the help sections. Do I need to Render the audio/video every time I want to make a change and preview said change? Can someone point me in the right direction?

Your clip settings MUST match your timeline settings. If you have DV/NTSC material, you need a DV/NTSC timeline. The frame rate, audio rate and dimensions (4:3, 16:9) all need to match exactly. In Final Cut Pro 6, this is easy, because when you drop a clip into the timeline, it asks if you want to set up the timeline to match the settings of the first clip you drag into it. Click YES and you are ready to go.
However, in FCP 5.1 and earlier, it is a bit trickier.
The most important thing you need to do is properly set up your project from the start, and the best way to do this is to choose a setting from the Easy Setups, located under the Final Cut Pro menu.
Once you do this, you’ll need to create a new sequence. This is because the sequence that is already in your new project is setup for the typical default setting of DV/NTSC, or for the settings of your last project, which might not match what you are currently working with. So delete SEQUENCE 1 and create a new sequence:
This new sequence will contain the settings you chose in the Easy Setup menu, and should match the format you captured.

  • Every clip needs rendering once in timeline

This is a new problem. I dealt with my last short project by constantly rendering. This is a bigger project, so I really need to get back to the old way of doing things where you can drop a clip into the timeline and it's ready to go, and you can slide it this way and that without re-rendering.
Why are all my clips needing to be rendered when I place them into the timeline???
    Thanks.

  • Why do I have to render every video clip?

Every clip I put in FCE has to be rendered, why? Is there a setting I have to change? I have a canon hv-20 and I'm using the 1080i setting in the easy setup menu. Thanks for any help!

If they are identical then I can't help you. There is no reason why you would have to render. Which is that you have to render, video or audio or both? The render line is divided is divided into two thin stripes, upper for video, lower for audio.

  • Why must I render every video?

It's so annoying... every time I import a video from my camera with Log and Capture or import a video from a saved file, I must render it.. and when it's 10 minutes long it can take up to an hour. Why? is there no way to have a FCP-ready video?

    Hello there -
Lets check a couple things. Are you working with DV? When you in log and capture, your capture settings show you are capturing in this codec? Once video has been captured your sequence settings match the codec you captured with?

  • How to render out clips in your composition as indivual files?

    Hi guys,
I feel dumb! This must be possible, but I searched all over and can't find a way to do it.
I have a MASSIVE amount of clips, that all requires the same post production. So, instead of having a new composition for every single clip, I figured it must be possible to apply the effects to all of the clips in the composition, and then render them out in indivdual files, but I really can't find any method to do so?
Would be appreciated if you guys had a solution for this

There is no easy method for this.
You can create a new sequence for every clip.
You can create a single sequence, placing just one clip in it, export that and then replacing that clip with the next clip, and so on down the line.
You can create a single sequence, put all your clips in it, and adjust the Work Area Bar over the first clip, export that, readjust the WAB for the second clip, export that, etc.
However you do it, it's gonna be a real PITA.  There just is no automated method for this type of operation.

  • Having to render every single little change I make!

I know this has been asked before and discussed before and I've gone over every instruction that people have posted but I still have the problem of having to re render every single little change I make. If I shorten a clip I have to re render it if I move it a little to the left I have to re render it. Even making changes to one clip can then mean I have to re render all the other clips that I haven't even modified. I've done everything people suggest to do. I convert my footage to a format that FCE likes and will work with yet I still have to keep re rendering every little thing I do which makes the simple task of editing a music video together take forever.
Can anyone please suggest anything that I may be missing as this is getting really frustrating!!??

Cool, as soon as I can get back in front of my Mac I'll get that posted up for you. In the mean time I just thought I would post up the process I've been following and maybe you'll spot something that I'm doing wrong.
Firstly the Camcorder I'm using films in 720p HD in mpeg4 H.264 format in widescreen/16:9. Now I read on another forum that the H.264 is no good for editing in FCE so I would need to convert to something compatible. I was pointed to a program called "Mpeg Streamclip" which is what I now use to convert to an acceptable format. If you are familair with the program the process I follow is to Open up the clip I want to convert and select the option "Export To QuickTime" It then gives me the options available for this. Firstly I choose DV-PAL from the dropdown list and then slide the quality slider up to MAX. The DV-PAL option defaults at 4:3 so in another dropdown menu I change that to 16:9 to preserve my widescreen. I then select "Make Movie" and it creates a copy in .mov format and DV-PAL. I have FCE setup to work with DV-PAL (all formats) as previously mentioned and from the instructions I've followed I should now be able to work with clips un hindered by having to re render.
Now I am doing green screen footage and using the Chroma Key filter which I understand does need to be rendered but from what I have read I should only have to render once and from then on I should be ok without having to re render.
I am very new to video editing and am a music engineer mainly but in the interest of being an independant artist I'm trying to do as much by myself as I can.
Thanks for any help you can give, it will be much appreciated.

  • MOV and AVI Files - Rendering Every Clip In The Timeline

This is just a quick query really. When I try and add certain .mov and .avi footage into final cut express 3.5, the timeline requires the clips to be rendered fully. It also requires a render every time you move the clip or add a transition etc.
If for example I wanted to make a fan film using footage from another source, how would I go about this - it seems very time consuming considering every single shot needs to be fully rendered every time I move it / edit it.

FCE is a resolution specific editing application. It edits DV or HD using the Apple Intermediate Codec. Anything else needs to be converted to one of these formats. It's usually best to convert your media to the correct format before bringing it into FCE.

  • Recapture HDV without pre-roll on every clip

I am trying to recapture HDV using Batch Capture.  My problem is that on every clip on the tape, FCP does a 5 second pre-roll.  So it captures a clip, then backs up 5 seonds and captures the next clip -- an on and on.  It does actually capture the clips correctly, but it takes forever and puts a lot of extra ware on the camera.
I have been able to re-capture in the past without the pre-roll between each clip, but it has been a long time and I don't remember how I did it.  Any suggestions?
I am using FCP 7.0.3 running on OS 10.7.4.  My "deck" is a Canon HV30 HDV camera, capturing over firewire.
    Thanks
    Rick

First, if the OP uses capture now, he'll have to reedit all the clips into his sequence.  Shouldn't be a big deal matching the timecode, BUT timecode will not match if there's a timecode break and he uses capture now without "create new clip on timecode break" enabled.  There can also be problems using capture now.  For frame accuracy and audio synch, you must have "create new clip on timecode break" and "abort capture on dropped frames" enabled.  If there's a timecode jump, fcp will use preroll and create a new clip.   If there's a break in control track (a space where there's no signal on the tape), without abort capture on dropped frames, audio synch issues will result.
And I'm not sure fcp can capture HDV material over timecode breaks cause of the nature of mpeg compression.  Not sure, cause I don't work a great deal with HDV material.
I think the OP is overly worried about camera wear but in most cases you can reduce the preroll amount to 3 seconds without much problem which will save you some wear on the camera.

  • FC-HD Making me render every shot

I'm sure I've done something wrong but I shot in HD and am editing in HD and it's making me render every shot. What step have I missed?

-New Sequence (FILE > NEW > SEQUENCE)
If it doesn't prompt you to chose an easy set up, go to the "Easy Setups" command in the FCE menu. Choose your HD setting (it should be "HDV __" with a specific HD setting behind it, depending on whether you shot in 1080i or 720p, select that preset).
Copy and paste all of the clips in the DV sequence (the one you have to render in) into the HD sequence and see if you have to render. If you don't, then always use this specific sequence preset while editing with your camera's footage.

  • The images imported to my stage turn up as blank and render every image previous to the rogue imported image as red squares that fill the perimeters of the image which then renders the publishing and scene testing features in flash useless, what can i do

I have been working on animating a scene in flash for a few weeks and recently I have encountered a problem with importing my images on to the stage where the images I import do not turn up, however the key frame that I attempted to import the image onto shows that it is occupied by an image and every frame previous to the key frame that just imported an image that does not show turns up as a red square that fills the original perimeters of the image, there is no solution to this problem any where on the forum and the adobe technical support staff will not help me find a solution to this problem what can I do to get Flash running normally again and fix this problem?????
Also after the first time i publish a preview after i begin using flash, flash renders the publishing and scene testing features as useless and claims that there is no HTML template found, or if the images if i import any images onto the stage that come up blank and render every image previous to that image as a red square and then try and publish a preview  flash renders the publishing and scene testing features as useless and claims that there is no HTML template found. What can I do to fix this problem??? there is no solution on the web anywhere to this problem either.

I don't know if Flash has a memory limit of its own. The memory for your Flash file is based on the available memory on your computer.
There is a limit on the number of frames that you can have in any given timeline. I think that it's about 15000 frames, but that's a guess. Flash does all of its work at runtime, this means that no part of your animation is pre-compiled like it is in a video file. So the more objects that you have on the stage, the more work Flash has to do. It follows that the more objects that there are to animate, the more work your processor and the video card have to do.

Before I ask you to check permissions on the drive you save your material and output files, try creating a new project, copy everything from the old one in it (highlight-copy-paste in new project) and save as with a new name. Does this work?
