Must restart computer in order to print.  What's going on?

I have a Win7 machine. I've used the AirPrintInstaller and my attached, shared printer is now seen by my IPhone when the computer is turned on. Printer is a Samsung laser printer attached to the computer via USB.
If I print an email to the printer from the Iphone, sometimes it will print immediately. However, subsequent prints from other emails get stored somewhere and will only print out if the entire computer is restarted.
At other times, even the first email print request sent out to the printer is stored and it won't print out until the computer is restarted.
When I open the printer, the actual printer cue shows no documents in it...even though documents will print if the computer is restarted.
So I'm stumped. Why this disconnect? Can someone please help? Thanks.

  • "Must Restart Computer?"

Last night I was on my iBook G4. Suddenly, a transparent grey box appeared and in 4 or 5 different languages (freezes up the whole system), it said that I must restart the computer by holding down the power button for a few seconds. I did that.
When I powered back up, a white screen appeared instructing me to either type "Shut-down" or something else that I can't remember at this time and then to hit RETURN.
Now, the computer won't even turn on! I tried removing the battery and when I try to start up again, I do hear the "turn on sound", but the desktop only displays for a few seconds before that grey box appears again telling me to restart.
So now after removing the battery a few things usually happen:
    1. I can't start the computer at all
    2. The computer turns on, but only for a few seconds before the bos appears
    3. I hear the "turn on sound", but nothing appears on the screen.
Anyone out there have any idea what this is and how to fix it?
    Any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!

FYI, this area is for the iBook G3 clamshell.
Since you have an iBook G4 you will probably want to post future questions in the iBook G4 discussion area.

Currently running Mozilla 3.6.8 and have been unable to install any updated versions. Getting error message 'need to restart computer to install an earlier version'. Restart, shut down does nothing for the issue. Now all the way up to 4.0.(4) and getting the same error message. Down load works fine, then will not install. Tried shut down of firewall and no go.

    And Merry Christmas!
Mac OS X Versions 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, and 10.5, are complete system upgrades that must be purchased.
Once an OS has been installed, the point upgrades, such as 10.1.x to 10.1.5 (Final) 10.2.x to 10.2.8 (Final), 10.3.x to 10.3.9 (Final), 10.4.x to 10.4.11 (Pending), and 10.5.x to 10.5.1 (Pending), can be downloaded for free.
Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (U.S.).
If your Mac meets the Leopard System Requirements. Leopard 10.5.x, can also be purchased at The Apple Store (U.S.).
If you know what to look for, a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, can also be purchased, sometimes less expensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, FastMac, HardCore Mac, AllMac, etc.
As you have discovered, be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
The discs should look exactly like the images in the above links, and not say Upgrade, CPU Drop-in DVD, or "This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold seperately." on them.

If your Mac meets the Tiger System Requirements, once Tiger 10.4.x is installed, you can use the PPC 10.4.11 Combo Update, to upgrade to the current version.

  • I have a new Mac and mail is showing thousands of incoming mails that do not show up on the computer.  does anyone know what is going on?

I purchased a Mac OS x 10.9 in December. When using Mac Mail i get thousands of incoming mails that do not show up on my computer.  Does anyone have any idea what is going on?  this sure never happened on my old mac. i have three email accounts.  gmail, verizon and hotmail.

I posted the same question a day ago with no response. I'm using an Acer x193w. You actually don't have to switch monitors to get it to work. Just make sure you turn off the monitor after shutting down the Mac mini (actually push the power button on the monitor, not just let it go to sleep). If you turn on the monitor (push the power button on the monitor), then power up the Mac mini, the monitor is recognized. The issue didnt exist with Snow Leopard for me. It only started after I started using Lion. Hope this issue gets fixed In a future OS update.

  • Must restart computer when opening Mail

When I open the Mail aplication I receive this message:
" You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button".
I don't know if it is related, but the adress book seems to show no data.
Any idea of what's happening? Many thanks.

    Hello Again oficinadosite!
As I Also Replied, in your Duplicate Topic,
What you are experiencing is a OS X Kernel Panic.
Exactly which model Mac G5 is it?
What size is the Hard Drive, and how much space is available?
How much RAM is installed, and is it original or added?
What peripherals do you have connected to the Mac?
Is when you open Mail, the only time this happens?
Are there any programs or applications, that are set to load at Startup?
What happened shortly before this issue originated.
Did you make any changes, like upgrading the system, update or install any applications or programs, new hardware or peripherals, etc?
Have there been any unusual occurences, like freezes, crashes, power outages, etc?
Are you able to startup from the system install disc, to run Repair Disk?
    Have you run Repair Permissions?

  • When Lion awakes from Sleep the whole system is sluggish? Must restart computer to get it back up to speed.

Upgraded to Lion and when the computer wakes from sleep it is incredibly sluggish.  Takes 1-2 minutes to switch between applications, typing is very slow, etc. Only thing that cures it is restarting the Mac.  Is this something others have experienced and can it be fixed?

I have that problem on my Mac mini.  The mini becomes so dysfunctional as to be unusable after it's been idle for a while.  Even DVDs won't mount (or eject) without a reboot.  <edited by host>.  It's disgraceful.  Apple should be ashamed of this Lion release, it clearly isn't ready.
I don't think there is anything you can do short of re-installing Snow Leopard until Apple releases enough bug-fix updates to fix the Lion mess.  In the mean time, just hope that Lion doesn't eat your Mac, especially if it's a mini.

  • Firefox 8.0 - All bookmarks are missing - "unable to process the backup file" - tried reinstalling Firefox and restarting computer. Nothing helps. What can I do next?

All bookmarks went missing after running WinCleaner OneClick version 11.4.2, but that has never happened before. Cannot create new bookmarks and if I try to restore the bookmarks from a backup , the pop-up window says "Unable to Process the Backup File". I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox and I tried restarting the computer - neither helped. I'm running Windows XP Professional 2002 service pack 3. Any suggestions?

Found a corrupt places file, deleted all the rest and renamed the corrupt file to be the only places file but I still had no bookmarks or bookmark functionality. I resigned myself to a complete uninstall of Firefox, including all personalization, etc. then reinstalled Firefox and I am now rebuilding my bookmarks list. Thank you much for the quick reply and trying to help! If I use WinCleaner OneClick again I'll be sure to back up my bookmarks.

  • Must Restart Frequently in Order to Regain Lost Internet Access

Ever since upgrading my iPhone 4 to 4.1, I'm frequently having to restart the iPhone, because of the inability to connect to the Internet (even though "Cellular Data" is definitely turned on). This is getting to be frustrating. Is anyone else having this problem?

That panic was not caused by third-party software. If the problem is recurrent, the possibilities are:
A stale or corrupt kernel cache
    A damaged OS X installation
A fault in a peripheral device, if any
    Corrupt non-volatile memory (NVRAM)
An internal hardware fault (including incompatible memory)
An obscure bug in OS X
You may already have ruled out some of these.
Rule out #1 by booting in safe mode and then rebooting as usual. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
You can rule out #2 and #3 by reinstalling the OS and testing with non-essential peripherals disconnected and aftermarket expansion cards removed, if applicable. Sometimes a clean reinstallation (after erasing the startup volume) may solve a problem that isn't solved by reinstalling in place, without erasing.
Corrupt NVRAM, which rarely causes panics, can be ruled out by resetting it.
If your model has user-replaceable memory, and you've upgraded the memory modules, reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts. Clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol. Aftermarket memory must exactly match the technical specifications for your model. Memory that is either slower or faster than specified may be incompatible.
The Apple Hardware Test or Apple Diagnostics, though generally unreliable, will sometimes detect a fault. A negative test can't be depended on. Run the extended version of the test.
In the category of obscure bugs, reports suggest that FileVault may trigger kernel traps under some unknown conditions. Most, though not all, of these reports seem to involve booting from an aftermarket SSD. If those conditions apply to you, try deactivating FileVault.
Connecting more than one display is another reported trigger for OS X bugs.
If your system is not fully up to date, running Software Update might get you a bug fix.
In rare cases, a malformed network packet from a defective router or other network device can cause panics. Such packets could also be sent deliberately by a skillful attacker. This possibility is something to consider if you run a public server that might be the target of such an attack.
If none of the above applies, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. You may have to leave it there for several days. There isn't much point in doing this unless you can reproduce the panic, or if you can't, it happens often enough that it's likely to be repeated at the store. Otherwise you may be told that nothing is wrong.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you know how to restore, and you have at least  two independent backups.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • Leopard - apps quit, can't print, what's going on?

I've recently updated to Leopard and it has been a nightmare since. There is no one specific problem, just everything seems to be not working right:
    - Safari wont open (for more than about 5 secs anyway) before "unexpectedly quitting"
    - I don't seem to be able to send the error report to apple (no explanation why)
    - Any app I try and print with also unexpectedly quits (and then doesn't print)
    - For a while iTunes was pausing every 4 secs although this has disappeared since archiving and reinstalling Leopard
    - Software update quits unexpectedly 10 secs after loading
    - Every 20mins or so, PubSubAgent quits unexpectedly (I don't know what that is?!)
If anyone can help I really need a hand as I'm fairly new to Macs and this is driving me mad!
    Thanks in advance

I'm guessing you were running Tiger before this and you upgraded to Leopard? If so, did you choose "Archive and Install" or "Upgrade" when you changed to Leopard? Apparently the upgrade method, for some reason, messes up your User profile. Do an "Archive and Install" in the future to save headaches. In the mean time, try to see if you can create a new user (System Prefs>Accounts -- click on the "+") and make sure it's admin. Log off and login as the new user and check to see if the same symptoms occur. If everything works just fine with the new user, then you know it's your user profile. From here you can migrate all your documents, songs, etc. over to the new user. If it doesn't, see if you can at least back up your data (documents, songs, pictures, etc.) then scrub the whole drive and start from scratch (Erase and Install). Hope this helps.

  • A dialog box tells me i already have firefox running i must close this and or restart computer this is annoying can this be fixed or am i needing better instruction for opening and closing firefox sessions help............

i have close firefox and tried to log on again i get a box saying firefox is already running, i must close this session before i can log on again confused i don't see the program running in the task manager confused again says i must restart computer in order to log on again. i close firefox by accident seems like this could be resolved easier. vs. restarting computer confused help shows something like firefox exe. confused

Try to run the Firefox program once as Administrator (right-click: Run as Administrator).
If that doesn't solve the problem then remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean reinstall.
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • I upgraded laptop to Windows 8.1, but when I open Acrobat Pro XI, my Windows Taskbar disappears.  I must restart PC.

    Hi there,
This is exactly what it says in the title.
I got a new laptop with Windows 8.1 (from W7), but when I open Acrobat Pro XI, my Windows Taskbar disappears.  I must restart PC in order to get the taskbar back.
Has anyone come across this issue?
    Thanks.

    Hi Paul ,
I would like to know does this happen in case of Acrobat only or while accessing any other applications as well ?
Are you able to see the taskbar before you access any application?Or it just disappears when you launch Acrobat?
You can try repairing Acrobat once and see if that fixes the issue.
If that does not work ,you can try uninstalling Acrobat once and install it again.
Please refer to the following as well and see if that helps.
