Must restart printer to print (3052A)

This is a very odd problem. I can usually google answers to my problems, and I've tried all the connection checklists and diagnostic tools I can find.
I have a HP Deskjet 3052A. I have it set up wirelessly on my home network, where I have a variety of computers connected. I have 2 Windows 7 machines, an old Windows XP notebook, and a Macbook. I never did get the XP notbook to print, but that's a different problem. The Windows 7 machines and Macbook DID print, and quite nicely. We used it daily for school, work, and kid coloring pages.
Recently we started having a problem.
We would get an error on the Windows 7 screens saying "Unable to communicate with printer" along with some suggestions to check and update the IP address. (The Macbook doesn't give this error, it just doesn't print.)
At first I started trying different checklists and troubleshooting guides on the internet, including HP Support, but none seemed to help. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, downloading new drivers, checking and unchecking options, etc. All the diagnostic tools say the printer is fine and ready to print. They locate it just fine, they talk to it just fine, they see no network issues or conflicts. The problem only occurrs when I actually tell it to print.
A few things seemed to occasionally get documents to print, such as restarting the computer, logging off and logging back on, turning off the printer's wireless connection and turning it on, and so on.
Right now I've hit a reliable workaround that is still annoying, but I CAN get my documents.
What I do is I tell a document to print. I wait for the error message to show up on the screen (it NEVER prints the first time). The options on the error message are "Cancel Print" or "Help." It is important not to click either option, nor to close the window in any way.
Then I power the printer off, and wait for it to shut down. Then I power it on again. It makes its usual startup noises, then the blue wireless light starts to blink as it connects to my network. The INSTANT the wireless light turns solid, there is a 50% chance my document will print out. All pages, perfectly. If it does not print out, I need to repeat the power off/on cycle. Just like flipping a coin, it sometimes takes a few times, but it always works eventually.
For normal printing, like occasoinal school papers, this isn't too bad.
The problem now is I'm doing a large project with lots of printing unique pages, reversing them, and printing the back. (it's a sort of "trading card" project for church). So it's a lot of single-page printing, and I need hundreds of pages, front and back, with each page being a unique entity created from scratch in photoshop. Needing to cycle the printer between EACH PAGE is more than quadrupling the time it takes to complete the project.
There's got to be a solution, but I can't find it.

Have you tried an actual hard rest on the printer?
Follow these steps to perform a hard reset on the printer.
1. Press the Power button to turn on the product.
2. With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
4. Wait at least 15 seconds.
5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
6. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
7. If the product does not turn on by itself, press the power button to turn it on.
Best of luck,
Kyle

  • OfficeJet Pro L7780 - Have to Restart Print Spooler every job I print (Windows 7 32-bit)

I have an OfficeJet Pro L7780 that shows as offline in Devices and Printers constantly.  I discovered if I queue up print jobs to it and then restart the print spooler all of the jobs will come out perfectly then the printer will instantly go offline.   Here is what I've done for troubleshooting already:
    Upgrade to newest firmware (R2011NxNxeN0)
Factory Reset by hold # and 3 at boot
    Changed Ink and Print Heads
Installed newest 14.0 driver (tried both Basic and IT Pro Driver)
Rebooted and restarted printer and computer
Tried all this on a 2nd Windows 7 computer with the same results
Anyone actually use this printer on Windows 7 32-bit over the wired network port!!?!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Same printer, same problem, same remediation by restarting Printer Spooler service.  Only difference is OS is Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
FYI- I'm using my L7780 via a wifi connection using WPA2 security and a static IP and network RAW printing to port 9100.  The printer always appears available via network pings but not to the print spooler.  As such, printer is always "grayed out" and disabled but will accept jobs into its queue.
After endless searching this is what appears to be working as a fix:  Turn off SNMP on printer port.
Printer Properties -> Ports Tab -> (Select Port) -> Configure Port -> uncheck "SNMP Status Enabled"
Hopefully this works for others- but I also found mention that others found a fix in toggling other settings such as "Enable bidirection printing" check box.  Who knows what seemingly unrelated software triggers this issue but it began one strange day and drove me crazy.

  • HP B110a in constant loop - cannot print, "printer error, please restart printer"

i was trying to set up the wireless feature of this printer but it never managed to get a connection to the wireless router.
after i type the WPA2 key in, all the touch buttons start flashing together and the screen says "Printer error, pleae press power button and restart printer"
now i've tried everything, even factory reset via the touch menus (have to be very fast to do the reset before the same error comes up). and basically the printer is unfunctional at the moment.
is there a method to reset it? or is there a solution?
i am using both a mac and pc, primarily mac. the wireless setup option during the mac driver installation also failed. it hung on the bit where it tries to connect to the router so i restarted everything after an hour of waiting.

    Synopsis
Problem: Endless Black Box "You Must Restart You Computer..." loop
Cause: Printing certain documents (so far one specific pdf file and a text file) through the wireless network at school initiates the problem and then all wireless networks perpetuate the problem thereafter
Steps Taken: Unplugged wireless network - this allows me to log in
-Warning box about fatal crash appears but "Send Report" does not produce any data
-Restarting wireless after login causes no problems
-Waking computer from sleep with wireless enabled causes black box to reappear
-Permissions repair did not resolve anything
-A complete reinstall solved everything until the other day when printing initiated the problem again, after having successfully printed numerous documents wirelessly over the past month
Other strange things my computer does:
-Makes very quite chirping sound with every key stroke (except arrows)
-Usually sits at the grey startup screen with the spinning wheel for a long time and then speeds through login process
-Only restarts successfully every second time after a hard-restart (the first time it just sits there spinning endlessly)
    More Details
Problem: Black box appears notifying me "You need to restart your computer" (Kernel panic I believe?) I restart my computer once, and it sits forever at the grey screen with the little wheel spinning. I hard-restart my computer a second time and it logs me in and then the black box reappears... and then the whole process starts over again..
Circumstances: I had this exact same problem occur about a month ago and it happened again under the exact same circumstances. I recently installed a Korean wireless router, some other foreigner had left behind, in my school here in Korea. The first time it happened I was trying to print PDF document wirelessly from my classroom and the black box appeared. Then the whole endless loop began...
That night I tried to fix the problem at home. I was able to log into safe mode but the endless loop persisted when I tried a normal log in normally again. I finally did a reinstall from my external drive using the most up to date image I had created with Carbon Copy Cloner.
The following day I went to school and couldn't resist trying to reprint the suspect document. My freshly installed computer crashed and I was ****** at myself for experimenting so early in the day. Then I tried unplugging the wireless router and restarting and it worked! Then I plugged the router back in and everything was running smoothly again.
Now I have a new problem. If my computer wakes from her sleep with the wireless enabled I get the black box both at school and at home. I'd really like to avoid doing another reinstall... please help!
    Thanks in advance!

    Hey Rich,
Think my computer healed herself while I was away this weekend
What I am wondering is if
a Safe Boot will always get you logged in when the
    other problems are occurring.
This question prompted me to try starting up in safe mode. I wanted to make sure the problem still persisted so I:
    1. Plugged in ethernet cable
    2. Turned on Airport
    3. Ensured WAN was functioning
    4. Shut Down my computer with just like I used to, with all network connections enabled
    5. Power ON -> Flawless start up, no black box!
    6. Put computer to sleep -> Woke up -> No black box!
    Weird eh?
So the only way I can answer your question is based on previous experience. Logging in using safe mode did work the three or four times I used it the first time this problem occurred.
I did nothing to my computer since this error, no updates, no permissions repairs and no sudo daily, weekly, monthly house keeping. When classes were finished Friday night, I came home, put my computer to sleep with Airport off and ethernet unplugged and the following morning I shut her down, hid her in my sock drawer, and left for the weekend!
My only explanation is that somehow reconnecting to the wireless network at school allowed my computer to resolve unresolved issue it was having with that network, the same network that instigated the problem. That's my best guess.
Thanks for taking the time to try and help me out with this issue. The clarification you sought definitely helped us get a more refined picture of the problem. I'm sure this issue will rear its ugly head again in the near future... that is, unless you or anyone else have some ideas about what I could do to prevent this from happening again.

    FU,
    Here's the info you wanted:
-Only restarts successfully every second time after a hard-restart (the first time it just sits there spinning endlessly)
This might indicate a dying backup battery (the one that keeps your PRAM healthy)
My PowerBook isn't even a year old yet, could it be that my battery has died this quickly? Hmmm, another thing I have experienced is that my Mac wont wake from sleeping if I have let the power get so low that she has been forced to sleep.
    1. "10 minutes of battery power remaining" box appears
    2. Battery depletes and computer enters sleep mode by default
    3. I go home and plug computer into power adaptor
    4. Computer fails to wake up no matter how long I wait -->power adaptor light does indicate the battery is charging
    5. I am forced to unplug my computer, remove the battery and hold down the power switch.
    6. Power on -> Date and time settings have changed and need to be set again
Does this sound like the symptom of a low backup battery?
make sure that "Set time & date automatically" in the Date & Time System >Preferences is unchecked.
I've never tried this so I'll give it a shot and see if performance improves.
now it seems almost obvious: 99% looks like a network fault and nothing >to do with your Tiger installation...
Perhaps, I'm no networking specialist, but I have flawless network performance until printing some random document at school over wireless triggers the whole series of events I mentioned above. My home router has never triggered this problem... although I have never tried to print wirelessly at home because I have no printer.
    1) how big is your network? (how many wireless and how many wired Macs >access your Router)
At Home: Very small, 1 PowerBook 64 and one iBook G3
At School: Small: Two Windows machines and my PowerBook G4. Wireless box is plugged into the existing router that was there. I have windows printer sharing checked in the "sharing" section of "system prefs"
    2) make/model of your router
    D-Link DI-624 (Home)
Some crazy old dilapidated korean box (at school)
    3) how do you configure your router (via the browser (Safari) or via a >utility/application provided by the vendor)?
I believe I configure it manually... I access the router via web browser and configure my settings
    4) make sure DHCP is set to Off/Disabled and set your IPs for both your >Macs and the Router manually
    Check, Check
    5) If you're familiar with network settings like hosts file, post back your >configuration / make sure your IP addresses are assigned correctly
    Not familiar
btw your PowerBook has an AirPort Extreme card or a 3rd party Wireless card?
    AirPort Extreme card
Thanks for trying to help FU, hope this information helps you.

  • Gray screen-Must restart

Recently a few times I've been on the internet and all of a sudden my screen freezes and turns gray and has a small darker gray box in the middle saying that I must restart my computer by holding down the power button. It doesn't tell me why this is happening; it just says, after I restart my computer, that "Safari shut down unexpectedly".
Why is this happening? I haven't done anything with my computer lately, like upgrading.
    Thanks.

My 17" intel imac did the same thing yesterday. First, froze while watching a youtube video, screen went black, fans still on. Rebooted. Came back up and gave a kernal panic (the screen that tells you that you must restart). Rebooted again. Worked fine for a few more minutes and then the screen went suddently black.
Reboot hung on the apple logo.
I took it in to the apple store to have it looked at. Of course it booted up fine and didn't show the problem at first there.
So far - they've determined that the issue is not software related and they got the same problem doing a burn-in overnight. They are trying to repeat the problem again today; it is working fine so far for them.
It's clear that it is a hardware issue or a temp sensor malfunction causing an emergency shutdown. We'll see if the issue gets resolved.
Prior to this, my machine has performed perfectly.
For reference, I keep permissions repaired, reset PRAM if required, etc. on the machine. The problem happened with USB devices connected (printer, etc.) as well as if the keyboard and mouse only were attached. The apple store is using their own keyboard and mouse, so those are ruled out as well.
Thankfully, I had extended apple care to the 3 year deal a few months ago. Glad that I did. In owning macs for 20 years, this appears to be my first genuine hardware failure, and the first time I've ever bought applecare extended support.

  • "must restart" notice. computer gone crazy.

Alright, I was having a problem with my disk volume earlier. Then I started getting a notice. The screen would randomly go darker and I would get a notice saying "You must restart your computer. Press the power button and hold for several seconds." and it said it in a couple other languages. I restart and it continues to do it right away.
Fed up with both these problems, I re-installed OS X entirely and erased everything off my hard drive. As I'm going through the set up for OS X, the notice pops up before I've even finished the set-up process. Now if i turn on the computer, it doens't know what to do since i have set up the OS yet and i'll probably have to re-install OS X (tiger) again. What is this re-start notice and why does it keep popping up?

The notice is a Kernal Panic.
You can read about that here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106227
Essentially an error message that indicates that some major problem occurred.
Most Kernal Panics are caused by bad or failing RAM / Computer memory.
If you have expanded the memory on your computer (beyond it's original factory memory), try removing the expanded memory and see if it will allow you to re-install your OS.
If so, you have probably located the faulty part.
To rule out other hardware problems, you could also boot from your factory restore disks and use the "Apple Hardware Test" to test your hardware.
One of your original factory disks will have "Apple Hardware Test" printed on it somewhere, and have directions for booting into the tests.
Run both the extended and short tests and see if any errors are reported.
Bad memory can sometimes still pass this test. But, it will usually find other problems.
I would be fairly confident that you will find the problem to be either bad memory or another hardware problem.
90% of kernal panics are due to a hardware problem.
    Hope this helps.

  • Need help with MacBook. "You must restart your computer..."

So I just got a new MBP 13" back in April. Then a few weeks ago, I started getting these "You must restart" crashes out of nowhere. They weren't really specific to any task I was doing, but I noticed it happened most either while browsing the internet, or directly when opening the lid after it slept over night. It was just a bunch of random Kernal Panics that didn't really point to one specific thing. I suspected Google Chrome, but after an uninstall (deleting complete Chrome folder) and reinstall, still happened. Then just removed Chrome altogether and went to Safari, still happened.
Went to the genius bar and they did a few things that didn't work and said that they wanted to do a fresh install next. I hadn't backed up my system, so I bought an external, picked up my MBP, and took it home and did it my self. I backed up, then did a full reformat of the hard drive and did a fresh install of Lion. Restored my stuff from my backup. All was well for almost 2 days. Then bam, it happens again.
So I thought maybe I may have restored whatever software problem was there before I reformatted? But then I decided to test the RAM I put in it. About a week after I bought the MBP, I upgraded to 8GB. Got it from Newegg. Here is the specific RAM I got: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820233215. Did a memtest over night, passed! But was still getting the problem. So I took the RAM out and put the factory RAM back in, and the problem hasn't happened since. And it's been about 5 days. Before, it was happening everyday, sometimes up to 3 times a day.
So I guess it's safe to assume that the RAM was the issue? Even though it passed the memtest? Only thing is, how do I go about getting them to warranty it? What do I tell them? Do you guys think that was even the problem or do you think it will happen again?
I can't get the apple hardware test to work. First, my computer shipped with no DVD's, so it has to use the internet. When it tells me to select my wireless network, my network isn't even showing up on the list. I tried typing it in manually and that didn't work either. Tried rebooting my router. Didn't work. So I tried using MyWi from my iPhone and that showed up immediately. But after it connected, it did nothing. It just displayed the grey spinning globe. Then gave me an error "apple.com/support -1005D" which gives me absolutely nothing when I search it.
The weird part is that when I'm using the computer normally, it connects to my network immediately upon booting. Why is the internet retore function not able to see my network?
I remember when I was trying to do the fresh install, my network wasn't showing up immediately either. It took about a minute to show up, while all my neighbors' networks were showing immediately. It also takes a long time for my Mac to see my Windows PC's on the network after it boots or wakes from sleep.

Definitely has to be the RAM.  Reinstalled the Corsair 8GB Ram about 24 hours ago and the problem has already happened twice back to back, where as it hadn't happened for a week when I reinstalled the factory RAM.  Here are the two new errors.  The second one happened right after rebooting from the first crash.  Still can't get AHT to run.  Getting a -1006D error.

  • Why do I get an error message that tells me I need to close the current session of Firefox. It is open somewhere and I must restart my computer to get past this. Why?

I cannot open Firefox on my system as a message opens that tells me I must close the session that is currently running. However, I have not opened it and it doesn't show anywhere on my computer that it is open. The error message tells me that I must restart my computer which I have to do to get past this point. Then it works fine after that. I have been using Firefox for about 5 months and it has happened about 6 times now. A bit frustrating I must say. Thank you for your assistance on this matter.

Open Task Manager and click on the Processes tab. Scroll down to "Firefox.exe" , click on that line and click on "End Process" button.

  • How can I "clear" my old IPad? I'll sell it and must restart it from the begining as new, create new Apple ID,etc?

  • Firefox will not start, says I must restart my computer, did that more than once ( at least 4 times ) but still nothing, just repeats that I most restart my computor

This started when I tried to upgrade from ?? to the latest version. It did add a second icon to my start page, both act the same way, tried to uninstale, again I get same message. Tried to do a system restore again same message" must restart".

Just checked the model of card youre using by Hardware ID
    PCI\VEN_02&DEV_0002&SUBSYS_00A02&REV_0A = SB0220 SBLi've! 5. Digital,
and I think if this is correct, you'll may find some other frustrationed owners asking the
    same question you have.
    Have you tried these drivers
    and/or
    these drivers
About this issue you and the others are having:

    BTW:
You perhaps can install Audigy 2 drivers and software to your card. Here are the instructions how to do it.
It's quite easy process. Download Audigy driver/software package (~20MB) (link is there), extract it into some directory. Download the patch (link is on Automatic Method sentence)and follow instructions how to patch the instalation package. Then installation process. I've modded my Audigy 2 to Audigy 2 Zs using a similiar method and everyting else, but GraphicMixer, works great.

  • Did anyone else have a 'you must restart your computer' screen today?

I leave my imac on 24/7. This am, I switched from my wifes user profile to miine, checked my email, got done, closed mail, and was going to open my browser (firefox) and the screen dimmed (like before going to screen saver) and then a gray message box about 3" X 4" with the circular power icon image in light gray background came on in the center of the screen, saying "You must restart your computer-please hold down your power button until computer shuts down (paraphrased). Nothing was going to allow me to do anything else (no cursor movement with the mouse, esc did nothing)so I powered down, and let it restart. Seems ok, I just want to know if anyone else has ever seen or experienced this happening. What entity would facilitate this restart? Apple? My ISP? Some spyware?

OK....I used the 'maintenance' utility, and ran scripts, repaired permissions, etc. When my computer restarted, I went to my wifes profile, ran 'disk utility' to repair permissions on her profile. Then I opened her browser and cleared her data, ie search cache, website cache, everything except her logon data. When that was done, I went back to my profile, and opened the browser. I'm at that point now, and all seems to be well. But then it seemed well when this first occured. Any guesses as to why this happened or what might have caused it to happen? A program conflict? A visit to a data-mining webpage? I know that some will tell you (or me) that macs are supposedly immune to viral or malware attacks, but there also are those who will argue that it is impossible to protect any computer, even a mac, from all infections. So, part curiosity and part pessimism create a curiosity. Any input would help.
    Thanks.

  • I just replaced the hard drive on my macbook pro, reformatted new hard drive and copied over a backup from time machine now I have a kernel panic message (you must restart) - what do I do now?

i just replaced the hard drive on my macbook pro, reformatted new hard drive, installed a back up from time machine and now have kernel panic ( you must restart your computer) what do I need to do?

If you're able to boot, launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the contents – the text, please, not a screenshot. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post "shutdownStall" or "hang" reports.
If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all.

i have big problem i make update to my software  iso 7.12 in my iphone 4  but when i recive calling  and i want to cancel and recall again i phone is stop no working and i must restart it to work what can i do

Basic Troubleshooting Steps when all else fails
    - Quit the App by opening multi-tasking bar, and swiping the App upward to make it disappear.  (For iOS 6 older, hold down the icon for the App for about 3-5 seconds, and then tap the red circle with the white minus sign.)
    - Relaunch the App and try again.
    - Restart the device. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    - Reset the device. (Same article as above.)
    - Reset All Settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings)
    - Restore from backup. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 (If you don't have a backup, make one now, then skip to the next step.)
    - Restore as new device. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137  For this step, do not re-download ANYTHING, and do not sign into your Apple ID.
    - Test the issue after each step.  If the last one does not resolve the issue, it is likely a hardware problem.

  • "Must Restart Computer?"

Last night I was on my iBook G4. Suddenly, a transparent grey box appeared and in 4 or 5 different languages (freezes up the whole system), it said that I must restart the computer by holding down the power button for a few seconds. I did that.
When I powered back up, a white screen appeared instructing me to either type "Shut-down" or something else that I can't remember at this time and then to hit RETURN.
Now, the computer won't even turn on! I tried removing the battery and when I try to start up again, I do hear the "turn on sound", but the desktop only displays for a few seconds before that grey box appears again telling me to restart.
So now after removing the battery a few things usually happen:
    1. I can't start the computer at all
    2. The computer turns on, but only for a few seconds before the bos appears
    3. I hear the "turn on sound", but nothing appears on the screen.
Anyone out there have any idea what this is and how to fix it?
    Any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!
