Must use Captivate v4.0 to capture playing video - Best practices & PC requirements?

Hi all,
I like Captivate, but have had a lot of trouble capturing playing video (a big part of my client's product) in the past. Despite encouraging client to consider other tools, they have decided they want to continue using Captivate and output to SWF. Some of us on the team for a previous project using v3.0 were able to successfully capture moving video, others weren't. (Vaguely recall something to do with a Hardware Acceleration setting, but it didn't work for everyone.) We've all upgraded to v4.0 but haven't used it yet. My questions are:
1. Has this been improved at all in v4.0?
2. What is the "optimum" PC hardware for doing this? (I am purchasing a new desktop, and need to keep cost to a minimum, BUT that is secondary to being able to produce these demos with moving video captured well!)
3. Can you give me any best practice tips specific to capturing moving video? FYI, we will be adding audio narration (after capture), but will not be using written captions except for a few Notes/Tips.

At first I thought that this solved my problem, but alas it didn't. It does appear to add display area for your computer or to suplement it. But it is not a view screen for your Mini. I guess I will just have to live on with my monitor and use my Ipad and the "remote" app to run Itunes.
Once I have the system all set up, I could use the display but I don't know why I would. Thanks for your help.

CS4 using a Mac and want to play video using windows media player

Hi I am having issues with file types to play video back using Windows media player.
I am producing video using Premiere CS4 on a Mac and I need to know what format to use to have the files play in windows media player as .mp4 is not compatable with wm player.

I have Windows Media Player installed on my PC workstation and I do remember installing a codec so that MP4 files could play in WMPlayer 11 on Windows Vista 64-bit (should work on 32-bit also)

Otherwise if you're posting videos on a webpage for example in the mp4 format use the Quicktime html wrapper so that people using Mac's can also view your videos that are encoded for PC's. If you encode in wmv format (Windows Media Video) then provide a link to the "Flip4Mac" application that can use Quicktime on the Mac to play Windows Media Files. I think you can find it on www.mactopia.com .

How do I use my HDV camera to capture VCR video into Premiere Elements?

Hello all, I am trying to put VHS video into my computer. I have read that my Canon HV30 can act as an interface between my VCR and my computer. I am supposed to connect my VCR to my HV30 and my HV30 to the computer through firewire. My question is this, how do I connect my VCR to my HV30? Which port on my HV30 is a video input? It has a yellow connection named "AV/(headphones logo)", and one called "component" that looks like a mini firewire port. It also has a red connection named "mic". The other connections are the typical firewire port and such, so it cant be those.? Thanks

I'm not sure if your camcorder can work as a pass-through between your VHS and computer. Fewer and fewer camcorders have this feature.
Is your camcorder able to record input from another video source? That's kind of the test. If you camcorder can record from your VCR then it can likely also serve as a pass-through.
But, sadly, this is one of the features that camcorder manufacturers have stopped including with their cams.

Using CSS structure to slice up a layout: Best practice?

I used to use sliced up Photoshop files that where held together in a table to create a very graphic intensive web page.
Now that CSS is the preferred method for creating structure within a web page, Im wondering about the correct method to go about it.
With the tables method I might have had 20 slices to accommodate the graphic areas for rollovers.
Is that still considered ok to do with CSS structuring?
Would that many box areas in CSS simply not work? Would it be overly complex?
How would you accurately position all the graphic pieces?
Would you stack a bunch of graphic slices in one CSS box instead of having several separate boxes?

a) a fixed-width design, centered in the viewport?
or
b) a fluid layout whose width, and dimensions, vary as the vewport is resized?
I presume (a), as this appears to be a print-like-layout you are hoping to put online. That said, you must know that the appearance of your page will not be precisely what you have carefully created. For one thing, users may resize text (assuming you allow that, which is highly recommended.)
Thinking mostly about your first layout, but the same could apply in general to all of them:
And again assuming (a) this could likely be done with a single background image in a centered wrapper div, with some of the text in a <p> tag with a two column div-based layout with a footer div, with some text in <p> tags with precisely determined left and top margins, and a ul-based nav menu in the right column, and a footer div with its own portion of the bg to house the footer text.
There are at least a million other ways to do this, and no doubt better suggestions will come along, but there would not be a need to the 12 slices I think you'd mentioned before. I foresee only two slices with my layout idea. Perhaps the right column would need its own portion of the bg slice, but i doubt it. You'd have to try all this out and test in various browsers with different user-controlled text sizes. But simple is better.

Use both iPhoto and Aperture with one library-best practice?

I'd like to use both iPhoto and Aperture, but have both programs use/update just one photo library. I have the latest versions of both programs, but was wondering if the optimum approach would be to:
a)point Aperture to the existing iPhoto library and use that as the library for both programs
or
b)import the entire iPhoto library into a new Aperture library, delete the iPhoto library, and point iPhoto to use the Aperture library.
I should point out that up to now I've been using iPhoto exclusively, and have close to 20K photos in the iPhoto library, tagged with Faces, organized into various albums, etc; if that makes a difference...

I am unable to play videos when flash is required

Does anyone know why I am unable to view certain videos while logged into FACEBOOK?

Because Flash does not and will never be natively supported on the iPad.
You alternative is to find other browsers that support flash. I see Puffin, Skyfire and iSwiffer recommended but I've never used any of them. I also hear that they have varying levels of success (as in some work better with some sites than others)

Unable to properly capture HD video from miniDV tape in FCE

When I connect my Sony HDR-HC3 miniDV HDV camcorder to my iMac via firewire cable and use Final Cut Express to capture the video from the tape, I do not get a Capture window that allows me to specify in and out points, I just get a playback window that immediately starts capturing and the only option I have in this window is hit ESC to stop capturing. If I let this capture window continue to capture the video from the camera with miniDV HD tape, then the entire tape would be captured as one massive single video clip.
QUESTION: Is there something I change or do to make the proper capture window appear where I can specify in and out points to capture from tape for each clip?
NOTE: using same camera and tape with iMovie with automatic capture enabled, all the clips get captured properly. I also tried to use the manual setting in iMovie and it worked too.

I have a several miniDV tapes containing HD video created on a Sony Sony HDR-HC5 and Sony HDR-HC7. Unfortunately, both these camera were stolen, and I have since moved to a camera that uses flash memory, not tape. However, I need to get the video footage off these tapes, so I bought a used Sony HDR-HC3, it plays the HD miniDV tapes just fine and iMovie reads the video from this camera just fine, but Final Cut Express does not.
When I setup Final Cut Express, I used the Easy Setup and specified:
Format: HD
Rate: 29.97 fps
Use: HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60
These setting match those of the camera and recorded tape. If I use any other settings but these, then Final Cut Express never sees the camera and never opens any capture window at all. Using Quicktime 10 movie inspector on the clips captured by iMovie from same camera, all the clips match this setting too.

My Final Cut Express scratch disk is a Seagate 2TB external USB 2.0 Hard Drive that has been formatted to be Mac OS Extended (Journaled). This external disk is also where iMovie successfully captured all the video from the same camera.

Thanks for the answer. It makes me sad. I thought using Final Cut Express would be an upgrade to a more robust editing system from iMovie, yet iMovie does a superior job of logging and capturing video from HDV video on miniDV tape in comparison to FCE. Not only does iMovie capture each clip on the tape into it's own video file automatically, it also includes timestamp information in the filename indicating when the clip was originally recorded, which appears to be something that is missing from Final Cut Express. Now I realize that HDV miniDV cameras had a relatively short life span in the consumer marketplace and have since all been replaced by flash and hard drive based AVCHD cameras, but from circa 2004 to 2007, miniDV HDV camcorders were very popular and I am sure there are lots of consumers that must be super frustrated by Final Cut Express limited ability to log and capture clips properly from these cameras.
Assuming I do not want to make a rough cut of video in iMovie and prefer to begin my editing project in Final Cut Express (not doing XML export of iMovie project), I need to determine the best way to get clips captured via iMovie into Final Cut Express and determine if there is anything inferior in the iMovie captured clips that I need to be aware of. So far it appears that both iMovie and Final Cut Express reduce the 5.1 surround sound captured on the HDV miniDV tapes to stereo sound, which is not a big lose given the 5.1 sound was recorded from camera's built-in microphone, but it makes me wonder if the video is reduced in any way by the iMovie import process, examining the video in quicktime's inspector window the video appears to be the same in both iMovie and FCE, but I'll research the answers to these questions elsewhere on this forum and post additional questions if I do not find the information I need.

Best practices to configure files to display and play in order?

I'm looking for best practices to get saved recordings (songs and business trainings) on my PC correctly configured so they will show up correctly (artist, song title, track number) and play incorrect order.
I have lots of MP3 files (and other formats) on my PC but when i transfer them to iTunes and sync to iPod they don't play in correct order or show up as unknown artist (and other issues).
I typically have them in a folder by artist name then folder with name of course or album then each song begins with a number.
EXAMPLE: Eagles (folder) - Hotel California (folder) - 1.HotelCalifornia.mp3, 2.NewKidInTown.mp3, etc etc.
I've also right-clicked and went into properties and add the track number, artist name, album name, contributing artist etc but it still comes up with these issues
--it's also very time-consuming to do this.
EXAMPLE: instead of it being track 1,2,3 etc it will be 1,10,11,2,21,3...
I've tried dragging them or copying them into the "automatically add" folder and also adding to library in iTunes.
Any help is much appreciated.

Oracle User and the FTP user are 2 different users.
I'm assuming you'll be reading the file from R12 through File Adapter and writing it to Bank using FTP Adapter.
Oracle User is able to login into R12, do some operations, submit some concurrent programs/requests based on responsibilities and generate the file to be transferred (like in my case it did by running a Concurrent Request). The file so generated should be placed at a location from where File Adapter can read it within the BPEL process. Now to read the file, the user that is used is a SOA server user (again different from R12 user). This is the same user that you use to login into your SOA server physical box. Hence to be able to read the file, your file should have appropriate privileges (we set that as 777) so that it can be read by the SOA process (using SOA user).
FTP user, on the other hand, is the user that allows connection to Bank FTP server. This has absolutely no connection with R12. Bank who hosts the FTP server must give you the FTP user details that you'll use inside your FTP JNDI Configuration on Weblogic. When you deploy and run your process (you don't deploy adapter), it picks up the connection details from FTP JNDI properties that you defined in weblogic.
Hence both the jusers can be different and I don't think any best practices are required or do exist for this.

Company orders 100 units of materials for delivery to location A. Tax is calculated on PO based on location A ship-to address in SAP. Once company receives the materials in location A, company then transfer the materials out to location B for final use.
We are wanting to get some best practice business process suggestions for this scenario so that the correct tax is captured and paid based on the final usage location of the materials.

1)Plant A:- Will place the PO on vendor {Material would be the trading material "HAWA} ( You need to maintain the purchasing data and sales data for this material)
2)Plant B:- will place the stock transfer PO on plant A for that material

ITunes locking up when trying to play videos

Every time I try and play a movie in iTunes it locks up and freezes my computer. Any ideas why this might be happening? I have 384 mb of RAM and am using Windows XP this seems like it should be sufficiant according to apple's requirements. Please Help!

What's the clock speed on your Vaio's processor? According to what little I can find on that model's specs, it may be only 1.13 GHz, while to play videos reliably in iTunes requires a processor speed of 1.5GHz or better.

Actually, it's bad practice to use break anywhere other than in conjunction with a switch statement.Presumably, if you favour:

}then you also favour

Safari Won't Play Videos on Blog Pages

All the videos on my blog and other's blogs won't play. When I click on the play button I get a message in the video box that says, This video is not currently available. Please try again later.
What can I do to play videos?

The site requires the Flash plugin.
Try uninstalling then reinstalling.. see if that helps.

Captivate 6 - I cannot confirm popup messages using mouse. Must use keyboard shortcuts. Why?

When a confirmation window appears, I cannot use the mouse to click on Ok, Cancel, Yes, No, Save. I must use the keyboard shortcut key, such as Enter, Y, N, S, C. This is extremely frustrating. Is there an update available that corrects this problem?

Is your default text size in windows is Larger -150%? Can you make it smaller - 100% or medium -125% and restart machine? Check whether you can use mouse for confimation windows?
