Mustek scanner answer...

Hello to everyone with the Mustek A3 pro scanner,
I just received an answer from Mustek , which is the following:
Unfortunately, there currently is no available driver for snow leopard for
this scanner. We are looking to release this driver in December.
Thank You,

I am also looking online to see if someone has written a driver that can be used before Dec. Hope this helps.
Good Luck to everyone!

I see your scanner is older because it requires to be run under Classic (which was Mac OS 9 and previous). You will be able to run some older applications under Snow Leopard after installing Rosetta (Mac OS would automatically prompt you and download it from the Apple site); however, I do not think that the same applies to printer or scanner drivers.
You might want to try the following: after uninstalling whatever drivers you installed, plug in and turn on the scanner; go to System Preferences -> Print and Fax and click the "+" sign underneath the left pane. If the Mac OS has a compatible driver already built in, it should see the scanner. If it does not, I'd say that after at least 8 years, you might want to consider a new scanner?

  • CS3 crashes on import from Mustek scanner

I just installed CS3 on Windows XP and am having trouble with my scanner. When I go to File->import I see the scanner listed. When I click on it Photoshop just quits, no dialog box, no nothing. I rebooted the machine, nothing else is running and still get the problem.
I still have Photoshop 7 installed on my machine and I can import with that which leads me to believe the scanner twain software is working properly. Could having this old version of PS still installed be the problem?
    Thanks,
    J Morris

Thanks again, Dave ... No, I'm not using Mac OS ... I'm running Vista.
Regarding your point #4 ... I didn't change any drivers, just the scanning utility software. For example, the Mustek scanner comes with its own scanning utility. That works fine. Other scanning utilities like
    Scanitto and
FreeKapture also work fine (in Vista).
As previously mentioned, scanning in Adobe CS2 (with the exact same drivers) also worked.
The ONLY change is that I upgraded from CS2 to CS3.
I'm glad for you that your scanner works, but the only help that offers me is to know that scanning SHOULD be possible in CS3. The fact remains that my scanner, along with those belonging to others, do NOT work in CS3 ... And we're all (Windows and/or Mac users) experiencing the same issue.
I can't make it any clearer ... There is something different between CS2 and CS3 that is causing VERY similar issues for many OTHER users. Hence, it would be appreciated if Adobe could examine this issue further and provide a patch/solution to get things working again.

  • Mustek Scanner 1200 UB

I have a Mustek Scanner 1200 UB which I would like to use with my iMac. I tried downloading the latest drivers from the Mustek website but when I ran the drivers for the Mac, it said something about not being able to run the driver because the 'Classic' environment is no longer supported??
What does this mean? I would really like to use my scanner with the iMac, can somebody please help me out here??

  • How do I get my new Mustek scanner to work over Airport Extreme?

We can't get our new scanner to even show up over our wireless network.
When I hook it straight to my iMac (2.8 GHz Intel Core Duo, OS X 10.6.8 [Snow Leopard]), I can use the enclosed software (ImageAcquire), but it does NOT show up either in ImageCapture nor can I add it via the Print & Fax preferences.  When I hook it through our (previous generation) AirPort Extreme, it doesn't even show up in the ImageAcquire software that came with it, and I get the message that a cable is disconnected.
The scanner is a Mustek A3 ScanExpress 2400, and is supposed to work on Macs, since it has its own drivers.  I have downloaded the most current drivers and software direct from the manufacturer.  Apple doesn't have it listed in Software Update.
We have successfully run our HP scanner/printer over AirPort.
    Any suggestions?  Thanks.

When you say that you are hooking up the Mustek device, I assume that you mean via the USB port on the AirPort. Is that correct?
If you are connecting the Mustek device via the USB port on the AirPort Extreme, and the device does not appear when you click Print & Fax, that would likely indicate that Mustek has not provided network drivers for their device.
The USB port on the AirPort is far different than the USB port on a computer.
You might want to ask Mustek support if they have network drivers available for use on an Apple AirPort router.
Keep in mind that in almost all cases, only the print function is supported when you connect an all-in-one or combo device to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme.
Unless something has changed very recently, you will not be able to use the scan function when you connect your other HP device to the USB port on the AirPorts.
If you are connecting the HP using wireless only or via Ethernet, then you should have full functionality that way.

  • Mustek scanner 2400

I just brought a Mustek A3 USB 2400 pro scanner and the software does not work with my new imac lion 10.7.2 software.  Apple helpline did not find anything to help me but eventually I found on the Mustek website under support, downloads, search 2400, image acquire software which worked fine.  The Twain one does not. Good luck!

  • Mustek Scanner - TWAIN - Image Capture

    I have a new +Mustek ScanExpress A3 USB 1200dpi Pro+ Scanner.
I used to be able to use the Import menu in Photoshop CS4 to access this scanner via the TWAIN interface.
However, +PhotoShop CS4+ includes a ReadMe which says that using TWAIN is not recommended. Since updating to 10.5.7, the TWAIN option no longer appears in the PhotoShop Import Menu. It did appear in +PS CS4+ under 10.5.6.
Okay, never mind; import scans in another application.
The obvious thing is to check +Image Capture.+
Unfortunately, +Image Capture+ says there is no device connected, & searching doesn't reveal one, despite scanner driver re-installs & restarts. (Please don't mention the Mustek website. See for yourself if you're curious!)
Checked the +USB Device Tree;+ it says there is a USB2.0 Scanner on the USB High-Speed Bus. It thinks it is a Hewlett-Packard, which could conceivably be quite correct.
So the scanner is connected, but neither Image Capture nor PhotoShop can see it…
    Any suggestions?

You useless lot — we wouldn't leave a simple question such as this unanswered for five whole days over in the Logic Forums!
There were lots of possible workarounds, including SANE (which is just +so easy+ to install correctly — not!) & various 3rd-party scanning applications.
The applications couldn't find a scanner; so much for their built-in libraries.
In the end, I found my own constant advice to others was the best:
+"Visit the manufacturer's website to see if there are any known issues or bug reports, & if appropriate, download the latest version that is definitely compatible with your setup."+
True, I asked not to be told to visit their site, but this is a typical poster's 'trick question'… which is to say, don't take anything the OP says at face value! (It wasn't a deliberate trick, of course; the site has been re-vamped now, & works much better than it did.)
So — someone could have picked up a nice green star for practically no trouble if they'd just told me to pull my socks up.
But — *no stars for you!*
Anyway, for anyone reading this post & wondering what happened, the new downloaded driver enabled +Image Capture+ to see the Scanner via the TWAIN interface. And they all lived happily ever after (until the next upgrade, of course).

  • Mustek scanner connectivity problems

I recently bought the much-maligned Mustek ScanExpress A3 USB. I am running Mavericks 10.9.5 on my iMac.
After finding and installing the driver and ImageAcquire software, I thought I had solved all my problems.
However, all I get is a "Scanner not connected to computer" error message when I attempt a scan.
I have checked all the obvious signs (the scanner is plugged into power and to the computer by USB).
Does anyone else have this issue? Mustek support is virtually nonexistent and I'd really like to use this scanner.

Are you able to set the ImageAcquire software to launch in 32 bit mode?  I had some problems with my Canon scanner and software. It turned out that the scanner required the software to be in 32 bit mode.  I had to download and install the 32 bit version of the scanning software.

  • HT2506 Can a Mustek scanner work with Mountain Lion?

  • Mustek A3 scanner with Macbook?

    Hi all,
I've just bought a Mustek A3 SP scanner from ebay and have no idea how to connect it my Macbook (with Snow Leopard). There's an SCSI connector. Is there a cable I can buy to connect it via firewire or USB and will I need a driver from somewhere? It says that it's Mac compatible but obviously not Mac + idiot compatible.
    Thanks
    Gary

Joeuu: SCSI and parallel are not the same thing at all, though old PC parallel printers often used the same Centronics connector as SCSI devices for the Mac, and a fair number of people in the old days mistakenly tried to connect their PC printers to Macs using SCSI cables and were mystified when it didn't work.
Garyf111: To use that scanner, you would need a SCSI-to-FireWire adapter like this:
    http://macgurus.com/productpages/scsi/FR1SX.php
Then you'd also need to check the supported scanners list for Hamrick Software's VueScan driver and see whether your scanner model is listed. If it is, you'll need to buy VueScan:
    http://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/vuescan.htm#mustek
    http://www.hamrick.com/
This combination, if your scanner is supported at all, will cost you more than twice as much as any of a dozen current, inexpensive scanners that would all outperform your very old Mustek scanner. Don't waste your time or money trying to get that antique working with your MBP — it will cost you a lot of money and time to get it working, and then it will disappoint you badly.

  • OS X Leopard + and the cost effeLarge Format scanner, what is their future?

    Hello Everyone,
My question is simple..."Is there (or will there be) a company who puts out a decent Large Format Scanner (12 x 18 inches lets say) for the OS X Operating System?
There is ONE I know of, the Mustek scanner (Bearpaw? about 200 $) that'll work on OS X 10.4, but only after an elaborate patching installation, and only then, the scanner only works for 25 scans or so, and you have to reinstall everything all over again.
I guess I cold use my Boot Camp PC Partition and use any PC formatted scanner but danggit, I wish there was a similar model for OS X and at a comparable price, it seems , everyone has forgotten about this major whole in the scanner/OS X market.
    Any suggestions folks?
    Thank you.

    Indeed
Oly Crystal BAlls I know that work are David Lynch' and the Wicked Witch of the West, None here. I imagine most folks who require a scanner thats 12" x 18" probably...
    A. Hook a Mustek up to a PC and transfer files over...
    B. Find a Print Shop or Production House to do it @ $$$ per scan...
    C. Stitch the **** image together in a Photo editor
    D. Come on to Apple Discussions group to raise issue in the hopes some intern at a scanner development company finds this thread online and wanting to climb the corporate ladder gets some sketches together and prototypes to market of the most incredible Large Format scanner thats formatted for both OS X and PC....Wishful thinking I know....

  • Mustek P3600: how to install it without classic.

I just received a new A3 scanner, a Mustek P3600. The seller didn´t explained it only works with classic and just explained it works with Mac OSX.
As macbook doesn´t support classic, I am in trouble with that.
I can not install the mustek stuff (twain driver and textbridge as OCR).
So, I tried to make it works with Vuescan but it is not recognized.
The system profiler just say there is a USB scanner there, but don´t tell the brand.
Is there any driver or idea for my scanner to work?

First, thanks to you for helping me!
I just checked on silverfast web page and no mustek scanner is supported.
But will be back to the site to download a demo version. Thanks for the link!
As that A3 scanner is very easy to find on the web when you are looking for an A3 one, I will be patient and will raise...
Well, I am used to work with 300 dpi tiffs to be printed offset and I need to work precisely with photoshop.
I have just tried last week to take some pictures of many original comics drawings with a digital fotograph. He though he could offer me a perfect resolution with his up-to-date material. The result was weak, as I have both to provide a printer and to keep memory of an artist work in that case.
My work is on tiny details and without any place for amateur production.
And I can not charge a lot for that, so I want my chain to respond.
With the last OSX update, I had lost the SCSI connection, even in classic. I had to restart with OS9 to be able to use my SCSI Agfa scanner. Not funny when you are finishing urgently the layout of a magazine.
With classic in need of reconfiguration for printing too, supporting Xpress but not the scanner, and receiving continuously new mails in .mac, you just navigate between problems instead of working. Probably the fault is mine but I don´t have plenty of time to learn everything same time.
So I decided to buy that Mustek scanner to solve that connection issue, as my printer very high resolution scanner was busy.
Photoshop hasn´t seen the scanner. I will check my configuration again.

  • What A3 scanner will not work with CS6

I cannot find a solution, my exisiting A3 Mustek scanner will not work because Twain is no longer supported. OK what do I replace it with? Can any body help, because photyoshop and scanners are a marriage of necessity!

You will have no alternative but to wait for Epson to update their drivers to be compatible w/Mavarick.  Why not call them (tech support) or send them an email?

  • I'm looking for a flatbed scanner than can scan documents that are 11" x 17"

As the title states, I need to scan some documents that are 11" x 17". These documents are inked comic pages on vellum, which is sort of a thick, semi-translucent kind of paper. I think I'll need to lay these pages flat to scan them, instead of running them through a sheetfed scanner.
Every Office Depot or Staples I visit has multi-function devices from HP and Epson that can scan this large. However, I've always had issues with devices from these companies, be it driver problems or hardware problems. I've also had a Mustek scanner in the past and it rapidly stopped working. I'm very happy with Canon products and would like to stay with this brand. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear Canon makes a flatbed scanner this large, and it's hard to tell if any of their multifunctions can do it.
The question is: does Canon offer a product now, or have they offered one in the past, that can scan this large of a document? If not, who can I talk to about product ideas? My alternative would be scanning the pages one half at a time and then trying to join them in Photoshop, but who has that kind of time?
Thanks for any help you can give.

Commercial Printing requires images to be 300 dpi (pixels per inch).
You will have to do the maths as we don't know how big the images are, whether they fill each size or only part of them.
If they bleed (go off the edge of the paper) they will need an extra 3/8" (.375") on each edge.
So for an image to fill the largest size and bleed you need an image 7425 x 11025 pixels. I hope you have a good camera. You can aways reduce the dimensions down from that.

  • How do I get OS 9 to install when it claims "software is not supported"?

    Hello all.
I have an iMac running OS X v10.4.11. I have Mac OS 9 Install discs from my iBook G3. When I try to restart using the disc, it won't bring me to the install menu. I hold down C and everything. The disc's info is accessible but has the white circle with the slash through it on the install icon. When I bought this computer I transferred all data and programs from the G3, which had OS classic and OS X. I didn't mind not being able to access older programs b/c all the new ones worked much better. However, I have a A3 Mustek scanner that will only work with Photoshop 5.0 and I need to run OS classic in order to install Photoshop. Any thoughts?

In addition, even if your Intel Mac could run OS 9 in classic mode, you can't use the install system discs from one model Mac on another model Mac.
