Mustek Scanner - TWAIN - Image Capture

I have a new +Mustek ScanExpress A3 USB 1200dpi Pro+ Scanner.
I used to be able to use the Import menu in Photoshop CS4 to access this scanner via the TWAIN interface.
However, +PhotoShop CS4+ includes a ReadMe which says that using TWAIN is not recommended. Since updating to 10.5.7, the TWAIN option no longer appears in the PhotoShop Import Menu. It did appear in +PS CS4+ under 10.5.6.
Okay, never mind; import scans in another application.
The obvious thing is to check +Image Capture.+
Unfortunately, +Image Capture+ says there is no device connected, & searching doesn't reveal one, despite scanner driver re-installs & restarts. (Please don't mention the Mustek website. See for yourself if you're curious!)
Checked the +USB Device Tree;+ it says there is a USB2.0 Scanner on the USB High-Speed Bus. It thinks it is a Hewlett-Packard, which could conceivably be quite correct.
So the scanner is connected, but neither Image Capture nor PhotoShop can see it…
Any suggestions?

You useless lot — we wouldn't leave a simple question such as this unanswered for five whole days over in the Logic Forums!
There were lots of possible workarounds, including SANE (which is just +so easy+ to install correctly — not!) & various 3rd-party scanning applications.
The applications couldn't find a scanner; so much for their built-in libraries.
In the end, I found my own constant advice to others was the best:
+"Visit the manufacturer's website to see if there are any known issues or bug reports, & if appropriate, download the latest version that is definitely compatible with your setup."+
True, I asked not to be told to visit their site, but this is a typical poster's 'trick question'… which is to say, don't take anything the OP says at face value! (It wasn't a deliberate trick, of course; the site has been re-vamped now, & works much better than it did.)
So — someone could have picked up a nice green star for practically no trouble if they'd just told me to pull my socks up.
But — *no stars for you!*
Anyway, for anyone reading this post & wondering what happened, the new downloaded driver enabled +Image Capture+ to see the Scanner via the TWAIN interface. And they all lived happily ever after (until the next upgrade, of course).

  • Epson scanner and image capture: blank white image

I've been trying to make an epson perfection 1670 scanner work on an iMac running 10.6.4
Since epson no longer specifically supports this model I am going to Image Capture and the epson drivers supplied by Apple. I have downloaded/installed the updated drivers twice (once via software update and once manually from apple support).
I can get image capture to recognize the scanner and perform preview and full scans.
The frustrating thing is that the image generated is completely blank; a white page. I have tried using the scanner and image capture on two other mac's (macBook pro, macBook) both running 10.6.4 and both of these produce the same white page (although they do recognize the scanner).
I thought the scanner may have finally broken so i tested it on another (old) iMac G3 running os x 10.4.11 and epson's scanning utility; it worked fine and made a nice scan.
I have tried to get epson's scanning utility to work under 10.6.4 by reinstalling it; I can get it to startup and run the scanner but it too produces a blank white image!
I conclude there is some basic software incompatibility between the drivers and os x 10.6.4. Its odd that the drivers and image capture can run the scanner but cannot send an image to the computer.
The epson driver in the latest apple update is version 5.2.5 (Copyright 2003 ???) while the latest driver on the epson site (for image capture) is 5.3. Tried to download the epson driver and got file not found (*!%#?&).
done what I can; any suggestions?

I had the same problem with my Epson 1260 scanner. The "updated" drivers provided by both Apple and Epson produced the exact same result - blank white pages, or if anything showed up at all, it would be all chopped up and skewed, like it had gone through a shredder. Trying to adjust the brightness and other slider settings made no difference.
After wrestling with it for a week, I finally found a solution. First make sure Rosetta is installed. Use the old PowerPC Epson TWAIN driver from 2003; with the filename EPSON TWAIN 5.ds. Put it in the folder /Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources/.
Then, don't use Image Capture. Download Graphic Converter. Set it to open in Rosetta mode. Then you can use Graphic Converter's File -> Acquire -> TWAIN Acquire... menu command to scan using the old EPSON TWAIN driver.

  • Scanner And Image Capture Problem

    Hello All,
I thought I would start a new thread since my first one was answered.  The old thread is at:  https://discussions.apple.com/message/17757734#17757734
Well, I went a couple weeks ok with the Scanner and Image Capture.  And then kaput, it doesn't work.  I thought about it some and it seemed to stop working after I did Software Update on March 17th, 2012.  In that update was a "Digital Camera Raw 3.1.0" update.  Which makes me very suspicious.
Here is the error I get when I open Image Capture:
So, it recognizes the scanner but can't do anything in Image Capture or the with the scanner buttons.
I ran Software Update again, just to see if there was a new updated scanner driver but nothing came up.
Any ideas?  I really want to avoid using the manufacturer's SW drivers etc.
Thanks in advance for the help!

    PAHU,
I feel like a complete idiot.  It was exactly the lock button.  The last time I finished using it, I locked it.  I totally forgot about it and I never thought of that being the problem to check.
I really appreciate your help and thanks to you, I'm back and scanning!

  • Sharing scanner via image capture.

I am sharing a scanner via image capture thru my machine, but am running into the issue that it is not maintaining the "shared" setting. I am having to go under browse and recheck the share button virtually everytime i start image capture (or restart my machine)
Anyway ideas to get around this annoyance?
on a side note: from time to time image capture does not even recognize the scanner and i have to unplug, restart the scanner, restart image capture in order for it recognize it.
    Thanks.

  • Lexmark printer/scanner and Image capture to PDF

I am trying to use a x5250 Lexmark printer/scanner to scan with image capture.
The printer installs fine and gets recognized. And I have the latest drivers from lexmark
so when I use the scanner with Image Capture, it scans fine, I can save it as jpg, png, etc.
The only one that gives me problems is when I try to save it as a PDF. It makes the PDF, but when I try to open it with Preview, it says unrecognized file format or corrupt.
I then tried to open it on a linux machine (ubuntu) and it opens fine.
    Any ideas?

Update on this: Image Capture still creates corrupt PDF, but it is a problem with Image Capture. VueScan scans to PDF just fine.

  • Adding old scanner where Image Capture will see it

I have an CanoScan N1220U flatbed scanner. Canon does not have driver software for this scanner for Intel Macs. I have downloaded a plugin for the scanner that was written for Power PC system X Macs, and I've put it in Photoshop's plugins folder. I can use it to scan with Photoshop provided I run PS in Rosetta mode. Is there some place in the system where I can put another copy of that driver (it's not a TWAIN driver) so that Image Capture will see it and use it? If so, will I have to run Image Capture in Rosetta mode, or can it automatically deal with parts in Rosetta mode, as some programs allegedly can?

Your 1220 was designed when the Mac was system 7, running at 40 Mhz. and a large hard drive was anything over 150 MB. If you are scanning paper, buy a new epson all in one. I trashed my D660U canoscan because it took forever with very limited internal memory. can you spell recycle?

  • Since upgrade to Mountain Lion my scanner and Image Capture program will not work ( have a Canon MP980 printer/scanner). How do I correct?

I recently installed Mountain Lionn on my iMac. After installing the Image Capture program no longer allowed me to  scan - I immediately received an error message. Even when I tried to scan directly from the printer/scanner (Canon MP980) I received the same message. Scanner worked fine with 'Lion' How do I correct this problem now?

  • How do scan strip negatives via my Epson 4990 scanner using Image Capture since upgrade to OS X Mavericks

Hello Everyone. OK I upgraded to OS X Mavericks without thinking that by doing this would stop me using my Epson 4990 scanner as no driver / software currently available - OK my fault. Anyway as Epson have not yet provided an update (yet?), all advice being recieved is use "Image Capture" for the time being. I have tried this along with using the "Help" files but unfortunately dont seem to be be any assistance. In simples terms I just wish to scan film negative strips (and transparencies) but it dont seem to be possible. Could any member advised how to get solve this problem as I am in the middle of a major scanning exercise with the worst case senario that I wil have to revert to my Windows based laptop to carry on and temporary reduntant my iMac which defeats the point of the exercise. Thank you in advance (hopefully)

Replay I received from Epson today:-
"In response to your email, we unfortunately do not have any update available for your model at present. We have no confirmed date for this but as far as we are aware this is likely to be in the next two weeks"

  • Preview, image capture, scanner

I have an Epson 1650 scanner. I could open a document laid on the flatbed scanner on the screen of my ibook via Image Capture or Preview and save it. Suddenly this did not work anymore. On an old PB, on wich the Epson software is installed, it is still working. What can be the sudden dufficulty?

    Hi roam
Next to "scanner" under preferences the "tick-box" only reads (I translate from Dutch) "Open scanner when Image Capture is opened. I cannot find any other spot to make the choice for use of Twain software...Can there be a difference between yr OS 10.3.9 (??) and my 10.4.8 ?
    Thanks and best regards,
    Walter
    Hi walter
I could open a document laid on the flatbed
scanner on the screen of my ibook via Image Capture
or Preview and save it. Suddenly this did not work
    anymore.
What doesn't work anymore: the ability to scan an
image or the ability the save it?
If your scanner is not working anymore, switch it off
and open Image Capture. Ignore the screen that says
nothing is connected, and go to Preferences, select
Scanner and tick the box next to Use Twain Software
wherever possible, because your Epson 1650 scanner
    requires Twain support.

  • Pentax DSmobile 600 with Image Capture only sayd "No paper loaded..."

I was using Paperless to scan documents, but Paperless is not fully working on Snow Leopard yet. I re-installed the Pentax DSmobile 600 TWAIN driver tonight, but I still cannot scan documents into my Mac.
If I select "Flatbed" as the Scan Mode, I can get it to "Overview" a document quite nicely. But when I tried to scan it it doesn't go well. When I use "Document Feeder" as the Scan Mode, Image Capture just sits there saying "No paper loaded..."
A workaround is to "Hide Details" at which point it seems to start allowing me to scan again.
Is this a bug with Image Capture?
    To reproduce:
    * Open Image Capture
    * Choose Show Details
    * Select "Flatbed" as the scan mode
    * Select "Document Feeder" as the scan mode
    * "No paper loaded..." displays on the screen, Scan button disabled.
    * Click "Hide Details" and you can Scan again.

Does anyone happen to know if there are other SW packages that enable calibration of this scanner? I've already tried (and let expire) Paperless and currently have a brand new but useless dsmobile 600 sitting on my desk - which I ironically chose over other models because of the recommendation by Mariner software for this:
    from http://www.marinersoftware.com/sitepage.php?page=152:
    {quote}"Nearly any scanner will work with Paperless through the Image Capture method, however we strongly recommend using a TWAIN compliant scanner or Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M, Fujitsu ScanSnap S300M or Pentax DS mobile 600. We have found that Fujitsu and Pentax have the best drivers on the market at this time; your results may vary using any other scanner. "{quote}

  • Image Capture

I am trying to assign a device (HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 printer/fax/Scanner) to Image Capture. Using browse the device is listed, however I do not seem to be able to get it assigned so that Image Capture will use it. What am I doing wrong. Thanks! JB

in my experience you have to use the Microsoft branded Network dongle, there are two i believe, a 100mbit one and a gigbit one, I've tried other brands like edimax and usb 2, usb3 lenovo dongles but all (except for the Microsoft dongles) failed to UEFI boot,
I've heard from a reader that the below also work but i don't have them so cannot comment

    http://www.startech.com/Networking-IO/Adapter-Cards/USB-3-to-Gigabit-Ethernet-NIC-Network-Adapter~USB31000S
however for any of the above to work you must have an infrastructure that supports UEFI network boot

  • Image capture won't recognize Canoscan lide 700f

Hello.  I have OS X, v. 10.6.7   I have been using Image Capture to run the Canoscan lide 700f scanner.  Then, it stopped recognizing the scanner.   Image capture is opened and says "no camera or scanner attached."  The scanner is operational.  The MAC sees the printer in systems preferences > hardware > print and fax. Any ideas on what I can do to get this scanner recognized by Image Capture again?  Thanks for your help.

I had the problem with the same scanner and Lion.  When the Mac would go to sleep, Image Capture would not recognize the scanner after it woke up.  Had to unplug and replug the USB connector to get it to start correctly.  I was blaming it on the scanner driver, but I accidently discovered that if I opened Adobe Photoshop Elements 6, all of a sudden the scanner would respond to an attempt to import from the scanner (to Elements).  After that, Image Capture could talk to it just fine.  So it appears that it is an Image Capture problem and not an issue with the Cannon driver.

  • Image Capture Overview vs. Scan

Hi! I am fairly new to Mac, so please bear with me. I have a 2012 iMac running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1. My printer/scanner is an Epson WP-4530. I am using Image Capture 6.6 (525). My question is this...why is the Overview image on my screen so incredibly different than what is actually scanned? I kept the settings that the software set out for text, and it's a hot mess. I've tried playing around with the settings, but I can't figure this out. Logic tells me there has to be a simple solution since the Overview is so good, but I'm at a loss. Please help!!

As far as sharing the scanner using image capture, browse to the scanner (devices > browse devices), then click on the sharing button on the bottom left of the window...You can share the device from there, and add a password if necessary...
    Cool when it works!
However, you cannot have more than 1 computer at a time using the scanner, so if another person has image capture open (but isn't using the scanner), you need to make them quit....
Still, this works pretty well (well, at least it did work pretty well
BTW-I thought I had installed the latest driver, but I will try again and see.....

  • Image capture, can't scan

I have an epson 2480 scanner that worked with image capture in tiger. After upgrading to Leopard, it seems that I can no longer scan. Image Capture speaks to the scanner (the scanner will scan a preview when I launch image capture), but the scan button is greyed out.
This ***** because I would use image capture to share the scanner with other users in my group. Now, the only way to scan is to sit at the computer that is hooked up to the scanner and scan there using the epson scan software.
If anyone has any ideas as to how to re-enable image capture scanning, I would love to hear it.
On another note, image capture does not work on any local account on the machine, whether admin or standard.
    Thanks for any advice...

  • CanoScan LiDE 700F and Image Capture

I just purchased and received the my Canon Scanner and followed the discussions on the product page not to install the Installation CD from Canon but rather use the Image Capture feature already on my iMac. My issue is that I can't seem to get the scanner to "copy, scan, email or pdf" using the buttons on the actual device. Learning to use Image Capture is all new to me and so is this tiny scanner. The 'scan' button on the computer screen works fine, but I don't know what I am doing incorrectly that the buttons on the scanner do not respond. Any suggestions? Thank you.
    Mildred (Moms90)

You can only use the scanners buttons with the Canon driver installed. The ICA driver included with OS X 10.6 that lets you use the scanner with Image Capture does not support the button operation.
You can get the scanner driver for OS X 10.6 from any Canon web site rather than using the included CD, although this model is very new so I believe the driver that is on the web will be the same as is supplied with the CD.
