Mute Audio During Tape Capture

Is there a way to mute the sound coming from my speakers during a tape capture?  I still want to capture both the sound and video from the tape but I don't want to hear it while it is capturing.  The reason why I want to do this is so that I can continue to edit projects while capturing new footage at the same time.  Having the two audio sources mixed together makes editing harder.  I am using CS 6 PP.
One other thing...if I change projects during tape capture the capture stops.  How do you keep the capture from not stoping..no matter what I do?

As far as I know, tape capture REQUIRES the computer "focus" or it stops... meaning you can't do two things at once
You might try a different program for capture
I have NOT used either, but many say to try these for SD capture http://windv.mourek.cz/ or http://www.exsate.com/products/dvcapture/
I have NOT used it, but many say to try this for HDV capture http://strony.aster.pl/paviko/hdvsplit.htm

  • Bad audio during DV capture

I've just moved up from iMovie 04 and I seem to recall the bug/problem was the same back then. When using Formac's firewire DV converter to capture VHS to iMovie, it sees the video just fine and in the importing process I HEAR the audio fine too, but when playback of the clip, the video looks fine, but the audio is horribly corrupted with a "machine gun" audio that has no connection to soundtrack. As far back as iMovie 04 I think that was the same problem. Does anyone have a solution? It's odd that during import all seems well. The quality of the capture is better than some other 3rd party DV capture apps out there (such as Quicktime Broadcaster!) because the primary difficulty with them is proper FPS even though that setting is made (either 29.97 or 30 FPS). Those apps are usually underpar.
I think this MAY be an audio rate sampling. iMovie may be capturing in one rate but playback is bad because is in another rate? How can this be fixed?

We got this fixed by having someone (and Apple Genius) show us that the Apple Final Cut Express preferences were under the /Users/<username>/Library/Preferences path. We had only looked in the /Library/Preferences/ path. We didn't realize there were two places for preferences.
    So, Tom, you were right.
Chalk it up to Mac newbie ignorance.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Audio in log & capture

I don't have a search bar either, so I have to ask - I have FCP studio. How can I get audio during log & capture?
    Thanx

The way most people [editing DV] would do it is to connect an external TV monitor and speakers to their DV device's analog outputs.

  • Unable to monitor audio during capture

I'm using FCP6 to capture footage shot with a JVC GY-HD100U at HDV 720p24. I'm using a JVC BR-HD50 deck to capture from, connected to my MacPro 3 GHz quad via firewire.
In the Audio/Video Setting dialog box, the Sequence Preset is "HDV 720P24". My Capture Preset is "HDV", Device Control Preset "HDV FireWire". Video Playback shows "[Missing] Apple Firewire NTSC (720 x 480)" and offers only the options of None and Digital Cinema Desktop Preview–Main as alternate choices. Both HDV options are greyed out. The Audio Playback option is set to Default.
With this setup, controlling the deck remotely from the capture window, I get video but no audio. The only audio I get is when the deck is connected to my video monitor and I use it to monitor the output of the deck. The audio is there when I play back the clips after capture but I cannot monitor the sound with the computer's speakers. If I go to the A/V Devices tab, under Video, it shows the same "[Missing] Apple Firewire NTSC (720 x 480) with the same choices described above, and the Options button next to it doesn't do anything.
Can anyone think of anything I've missed in the initial setup?

    Keith,
For whatever reason (perhaps the intense processor needs) HDV does not allow you to monitor your audio during capture. The computer just will not do it. What I have done, if I really want to hear what's happening durning capture, is plug my speakers into the headphone jack of my XL H1. Due to the processing that's going on, the audio "lags" behind the video by a couple of seconds.
I'm pretty sure this is not a setup problem, but just a limitation due to the nature of your format.
    Hope that helps!

  • No Audio during Log and Capture

Hello, I have FCP 6.0 and am unable to hear my audio during log and capture. I have this problem on all 5 G5 Macs that I have, and have tried different editing docks and cables. I have used FCP for more than 5 years and have never had this problem. iMovie has audio during capture, so I am convinced that there is a pre-set in FCP that I don't have checked properly, but I've been over them many times and still have no answer. I searched past forums and didn't really find anything helpful to me.
My pre-sets are set to DV NTSC 48kHz and the playback pre-sets are set to default. I can hear audio of my clips after I log and capture, but I still need to hear audio during importing. I'm more confused than anything. If anybody has had this problem before or any suggestions for me, I'm all ears.
    Thanks.
    John

    ... as Bogie says.
However... this is a non-feature that dates back to slower CPU days... yet, still with all the different formats and such I (ME!!) I believe it's still good practice to leave it off.
Devoting as much CPU work to the capture process lessens the chance for something to go wrong. You can easily monitor the audio directly out of the deck as needed.
Sure -- octo cores need 30 apps open just to get your money's worth and I'm sure you won't have any issues using an 8th of one to send audio thru itself while the other 7 and 7/8ths are used for capture... but who wants to risk it?
Not me... I'm to old to change my ways.
Blast you FCP v1.2.5 on a beige G3 with 7gig and 15gig hard drive -- you taught me well.

  • Audio Monitoring during Log & Capture

New user here and just setting things up. I'm able to hear audio after I have captured a clip but cannot hear/monitor audio during logging. What am I missing here? BTW - using onboard iMac speakers and headphone jack for monitoring.

I have the same problem and its driving me crazy! I don't think it is supposed to work this way, especially if you have 8 cores worth of processing power. More than enough to view and listen during capture and log review process.
    Here is my situation:
    Camera: Sony HC7
    Connection: Firewire
Video Setting on Camera: HDV 1080i60 with 16 bit 48hz Audio
Program: Final Cut Studio Pro 2
During Log and Capture Preview (HDV settings) there is not an option to turn audio on although you can view the sound bars moving just fine. I have not been able to find any documentation that say FCP does not allow you to listen to audio during preview. I think this is a bug or at least an option that FCP should allow the user to turn-on or turn off.
My question is this: Should it be working? And if so, why not? And if its not allowed then Why Doesn't the documentation say so????? I've noticed that if you're capturing from standard DV devices that you elect to turn the audio on/off.
Like this post, if I capture it into the application then everything works just fine and the audio is there.
    Please help. Thanks

  • How to Mute audio when capturing

Does anyone know how to mute the audio when capturing HDV. The preview check box is only available when capturing dv. I'd like to be able to use the computer's sound for other things while capturing

Hi Ian, actually there is no "Preview" button in the HDV specific Log and Capture window (which is different from the normal Log and Capture window) so there is no way to mute the audio passthrough when capturing HDV.
Sabapp, asking for an update here is futile, you are talking only to other users. If you want to send feedback, report bugs, make feature requests etc then you should do so on the feedback page here:

  • NO AUDIO DURING PLAYBACK ON TIMELINE

Ever since I tried using the Narration tool in Premiere Elements 12, I have had nothing but problems with audio.  The narration tool itself cause Premiere to crash.  I decided not to use it again, but I continue to have problems.  I can hear audio in the clips when i play them through the source monitor, but if I drop it on the timeline, then there is no audio during playback.  I've already checked my audio output settings and I've already tried restarting Elements and my Macbook.  I've even tried to change the audio output devices just to make sure I didn't screw it up when trying to activate the microphone for narration.  Please help!
*NOTE - this is only a problem in the current project.  When I made a new project, it played back fine.  The problem is that I have hundreds of assets that I've renamed with descriptive file names, as opposed to the formatted file name the camera gave them.

    Good morning Steve.
Yes, there is a waveform on the clips.  However, when I open Audio Mixer, I do not see any audio registering.
Also, I do not have a USB microphone plugged into my computer.
Finally, I have done the Audio Hardware check.  I have tried using both "Built in Output" and "System Default Input/Output" but neither works.
Not sure if it helps to know this, but I have also tried to add music files to both Audio 1 track and also Soundtrack track.  Neither one will play back audio on the timeline, even though I can clearly see the waveform on the file.  It also does not register on the audio mixer.  This tells me that it;s definitely an issue with this specific timeline.  Is there any setting or mute button I may have accidentally changed?  None of the mute buttons are checked off in the audio mixer.

  • No audio during playback

Hello all, I am extremely consfused as to what is wrong with the premiere pro settings. I have a blackmagic intensity pro installed. I can use it just fine to capture video. No matter what audio files or Videos I use, the audio meters show audio during playback, but my speakers are not playing anything. I have searched for a solution. My only guess is that the program is pointing audio to the blackmagic intensity pro and not to my audio card. Any suggestions?

I talked to Blackmagic about this problem and was told that they could only guarantee audio/video sync if their output was used so their presets only let you do this. With the Decklink studio this is a bit of a pain if you are working in 5.1 as there are only 4 analogue outs, I had to build a rack of D to As to get my monitoring working.

  • Monitoring audio during record session

I'm using Soundbooth (CS4) to digitize LP's on my Mac using an Audio Technica AT-LP120 USB turntable.
I'm able to capture the audio in Soundbooth, but I'd like to be able to hear the audio during the recording session.
I can't seem to figure out how to do that. Can someone give me a little coaching please?

There's a button in the middle of the recording dialog box called "Monitor Input during Recording".

  • How to turn off audio during transfer

Is there a way where I can turn off the audio during a Log Capture/Transfer? I still want the audio to be captured but just not played on the speakers. I'd like to listen to other sources of audio while the video is transferring in the background at the same time. This way, I don't have two different audio sources playing out to my headset.

Do bear in mind that doing both operations at once could jeopardize the integrity of your capture (you could end up with dropped frames), that said, in your Log and Capture window under the Clip Setting tab you should see a "Preview" checkbox in the Audio section. Untick that box.

  • Resyncing audio in a captured clip

I have captured two long (?50 min) clips via my Panasonic DV camera from two different tapes. One tape captures fine. The other tape gives me audio out of sync errors after I capture it (I've tried capturing it twice, both with the same error)
How can I manually resync the audio in my clip without putting it into a Sequence? (It will be used as a Angle 2 in a multiclip)
The manual mentions adjusting the sync in subframes. But my sync is off by a second or so.
Can I fix this in the clip viewer? Or will I have to put it in a sequence, adjust the sync, then re-render it out as a Quicktime movie, and import that movie in order to use it in a Multiclip?

Unfortunately, the off-sync clip contains the master audio track for both clips.
Is there a better way to slip the audio than how I'm doing it?
I'm locking the video track and sliding the audio tracks left and right. But even at the highest zoom factor in the Sequence, it seems to snap at 6 frame increments. I've never had to do this before and I am embarassed at my inexperience with audio.

  • "Dropped Frames Detected During Last Capture attempt."

    After capturing from DV tape to FCE I get this message;
"Dropped Frames Detected During Last Capture attempt."
What is causing this, and is there anything I can do to fix it?

It is an old DV tape and recorder that I am backing up to the hard drive, and the only other fire wire device is the external drive that I use for a scratch disc. I am using a pass thru fire wire port on the external drive. I successfully ingested 14 other older DV tapes without this message, so it could be a bad tape.
I did sample the video in different areas and it appears OK so far.
