Mute button not working on iphone 4

My mute button on iphone 4 will not work and the sound button letting me know if it's on silent or not will not show up,
I don't want to have to take it to apple as I won't be able to take it there for a while (+ it's not under warranty) are there any solutions to this problem?

  • Volume missing in system tray, mute buttons not working

    hi, i just reformatted and installed the latest drivers for my Creative Soundblaster Digital 5. (dell) card, and at first everything was fine..
    Now they Icon for sound is missing from the system tray.. My volume dial and mute button no longer work. and yes i have gone in and selected to have it appear in the tray.. that does nothing.
    Also, all other sounds are working except for sounds from web browsers.. and I have all the necessary pluggins installed..
    thanks creative... great products...Message Edited by maluut on 0-0-2006 05:07 PM

    I have a similar problem with my elite pro card and would also like an answer.
    I installed the new drivers and now my volume knob does not work nor can I adjust volume with the remote control. The mute button does work though.
    Also why such an annoyance as to need the original disc in order to make the control panel work in the system tray? shouldn't driver updates be complete?
    Also...what's up with the max volume white noise during the driver install which made my ears ring and nearly blew out my speaker system?

    Morning AskVictoria95,
    Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

    Sleep/Wake button will not lock or unlock iPhone
    To lock the phone, press the Sleep/Wake button. Note: By default, if you don't touch the screen for a minute, iPhone locks automatically.
    To unlock iPhone, press the Home button or the Sleep/Wake button, then slide the slider.
    If either of the above steps don't work, try turning iPhone off and then on again.
    If the iPhone will not power off, reset it.
    Try to lock or unlock the phone.

  • Power button not working on iPhone 4s then starts to work

    Power button stopped working for a while then started working again. Has not happened before...

    OK, thanks for sharing.

  • Power button not working on iphone 5

    Power button seems to be not working more than it is. I'd thought it was a poorly fitting case, then I thought it was just intermittent (talk about denial!) Do people think it's a trip to the Apple Shop or is there a quicker, house based solution?

    Hey,
    That is a hardware issue and needs to go to repair centre.
    I had the same issue and when I finally had enough and decided to go to Repair Centre(that was today), i realised that my warranty is over by 6 days.
    I would def get it looked at as soon as possible.

  • Earphone buttons not working on iphone but work perfectly well on mac

    Hi,
    As of a couple of days the buttons on the earphones that came along with my iphone have stopped working with the phone. That is, I cant raise or lower the volume using the buttons when I listen to music, nor can I play/pause songs or answer calls using the button in the middle. The sound from the earphones works perfectly well (that is, I can listen to music), and so does the mic (I can talk to people using the earphones).
    Just now though, I used the earphones with my macbook and the buttons suddenly work. So is the fault with my phone? Is there anything I can do?

    Hear, hear!
    That earphone jack attracts more lint that a bellybutton. I just cleaned mine out (the earphone jack) and remote functionality returned like a dream!

  • Mute button not working

    Hi--
    This is a simple mute toggle button for an mp3 player.
    I first var sound: Sound
    Then I have the function
    //mute the current sound
    function muteSound ()
         if(this.sound.getVolume != 0) this.sound.setVolume(0);
         else this.sound.setVolume(75);
    Then I setup 4 frames in a movieClip, labelled on, onRoll, off and offRoll.
    Then this under button Actions
    // Mute Button
    buttonMute.onRollOver = function()
         if(this._currentframe == 1) this.gotoAndStop("onRoll");
         else this.gotoAndStop("offRoll");
    buttonMute.onRollOut = function()
         if(this._currentframe == 2) this.gotoAndStop("off");
         else this.gotoAndStop("on");
    buttonMute.onRelease = function()
         if(this._currentframe == 2)
              this.gotoAndStop("on");
              this._parent.muteSound();
         else if(this._currentframe == 4)
              this.gotoAndStop("on");
              this._parent.muteSound();
         else
              this.gotoAndStop("off");
              this._parent.muteSound();
    This all works graphically, the sound mutes the first time, and the graphics do change, but the sound never unmutes.
    Because I was asked before, here is a copy of the whole file:
    http://charlesnewmanpubl.com/player_fa2.zip

    I think you should call the getVolum like this
    function muteSound ()
         if(this.sound.getVolume() != 0) this.sound.setVolume(0);
         else this.sound.setVolume(75);

  • Volume button not working on iPhone 4

    My iPhone 4 volume button isn't working. Also, I can't seem to hear any music unless I plug in my headset. I've already tried plugging it in several times, rebooting it and have the newest software. Is there anything else I can do besides going to the Apple store? They're not exactly close to where I live.

    I had this problem yesterday also
    did it get right or not yet?

  • Power button not working in iphone 5 and its been not replaced under warranty and also the replacement programme because lc got triggered

    Even if there was a liquid contact with the phone, the phone is elligible bor the programme and the phone is under working condition except the power button which i assume is definitely because of the faulty mechanism of the phone.

    And I don't know what these guys are talking about? I have an unsolved hardware issue and I posted here!
    This is a user-to-user technical support forum. This is not AppleCare. You are not addressing Apple here. No one here can help you resolve your customer service issue with Apple. Use the Contact Us link at the bottom right of every page for information on how to contact Apple directly. When you talk to them, I'd suggest not using profanity. It makes people less likely to help you.

  • Proximity sensor AND lock button NOT working on iPhone 4

    My iPhone 4's lock button is all of a sudden stuck. Along with it, the proximity sensor has stopped working and, consequently, the screen stays on during calls, so I keep hanging up or starting FaceTime through my face. Is this one single problem or two seperate ones? Someone told me that the flex cable connecting the button and the sensor is the same, so the problem is actually one. My iPhone, having been purchased in early 2011, is no longer covered by warranty, so I will have to pay for the repair myself.

    Well, theres nothing you can do yourself to resolve this issue.
    assuming there is no physical damage or water damage, your warranty should cover this at an apple retail store.
    in the meantime, look into assistivetouch.

  • Lock button not working on iPhone 5 OUT OF WARRANTY

    (well you have to give back what you get)
    No, you don't. Decent, mature people try to remain polite. If you go in with that sort of combative attitude, don't be surprised if people aren't willing to do everything they can to help you. I work in retail. If a customer comes in with a problem and a reasonable attitude, I will bend every rule, turn over every rock I can to help them. If they come in acting like an entitled jerk, I will be just as polite and I will offer them precisely what policy says and not one iota more. So, you need to consider, which is more important? Your ego? Or getting your phone fixed.
    And some day, you too may work in a customer facing job. Build up the good karma while you can.

  • Volume and mute button not working

    The external mute and volume buttons have stoped working on my desktop touchscreen. Any ideas?

    Nevermind. Fixed it by going to System Preferences > Keyboard >  Check Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys

  • Volume button not working on iPhone 5

    I have tried to reset my iPhone, I rebooted it, played with the audio settings it still doesn't work.
    Any idea anyone?
    Thanks

    Assistive touch is a nice work around.  I had the same problem and my phone was still under warranty.  I set up and an appointment at a local Apple Store and they swapped it immediately.  The whole transaction took about 5 minutes to wait for an Apple Rep and 5 minutes to swap the phone.  AppleCare is well worth the cost when you get customer service like this.
