Muted microphone

My internal microphone has become muted on Fact Time, and the mute setting is greyed out in the Video drop-down.  How can I un-mute it? It IS working in other applications.

Silithi,
According to your post, it says that you're using osx 10.4.11.  You need at least 10.6.6. to support facetime.http://www.apple.com/support/mac/facetime/getstarted/

  • Lync 2013 - re-connecting is un-muting microphone, is that a bug or a feature?

Every time Lync 2013 re-connects (very often sadly) the microphone is un-muted.
Is that a bug or a feature?
I'm using a Plantronics Voyager UC headset (Lync certified), doesn't know if it happens with others too.
Please advise if there's a solution, I have to disconnect from Lync every time I'm in a conf call using another software like Cisco Webex.
Quite annoying and very embarassing sometimes...
    Thanks

    Hi,
When Lync change the status of Mute/Un-Mute, it change the Audio value with the following path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\MMDevices\Audio
Please check if Cisco Webex also use the same parameter for Mute\Un-Mute. If the two use the same parameter, it can cause the issue.
Also, if the re-connection issue only happen to you, please try to update Lync to the latest version and then test again.
If the re-connection issue happen for multiple users, please check the Lync Server performance and network situation as well.

  • I hear static even with muted microphones.

My friends also have the same problem.
Sometimes it goes away if I fiddle with the volume slider.
Skype should not be making any sound at all if everyone in the call has muted their mics.
We also have several problems with group calls.
Sometimes people get no sound and the call has to be restarted.
Sound quality is bad for some but parking the call and resuming usually fixes it.
Sometimes joining a group call does not work at all the call has to be restarted.

Since it plays fine in Windows Media Player, rip the CD in WMP and add the resulting MP3s to your iTunes library.

  • In-Call Toolbar

I was in a video call with someone (both of our online statuses listed as 'Online') and in the call, the toolbar would not disappear from over the video. It is already a nuisance that they have promised and never fixed the mic-muted button always appearing, as it takes over the majority of the bottom half of the video in the preview mode as well as a large portion when the call screen is up.
I have looked over people reporting this issue in previous versions and the recommendations for those problems are all non-applicable to me. I am not in accessibility mode. I do not have corrupt files. Myself, and the party I am calling both have the most recent version of Skype on our computers (6.21, although I have seen that 6.22 is available, the search for updates does not recognize 6.22 yet and I am on 6.21). I have not had this problem before today, and even in the past while that I have been on 6.21. There are no pending IM's or missed calls from anyone. The call quality is all fine (maximum bars). The connection between me and the other party is good.
I am certain it is not Windows thinking I am still hovering over the video in the call, because the muted microphone image appears after a few seconds as it would in general, but it appears on top of the toolbar overlay. It then disappears when I move my mouse back over the toolbar and it registers and I am able to click end-call or end-video, etc.
This is extremely annoying for many reasons, obviously. I am also still highly annoyed at the muted microphone overlay being a mandatory visible icon, although I can understand why many people need it, it is highly unnecessary and I should have the option to hide it as sometimes I just like to look at my girlfriend in video instead of seeing a monstrous microphone with a red cross over it.
I have logged out and back in. I have ended and started both Skype AND Windows. It is continuing to happen. Anyone have a fix?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I just ran a test with Windows 7 and 10 technical preview.  There is only one instance in which the bar remained.  This is when I stored the mouse on the bottom.  If I left it on the far top, left or right, it eventually disappeared.  There is still no way of hiding the mic mute icon unless you switch the audio to a dead audio input ,

I have problems with on-board Realtek alc 892 audio. Im running out of ideas of what could i do to fix this static noise problem.Im using Logitec z-2300 speaker.I have tried headphones too and all of them have this static noise coming trough. There is no noise with volume at 50% but beyond that it becomes audible. It kinda sounds like scratching vinyl plates or makes popping sound.whenever i move my mouse or type something the noise is coming in.Also when the cpu is under work(while loading something when i click the noise comes in)there are leds on my z77a-g45 mb that shows cpu activity and when they flash the static noise/whine is present. This noise exactly fallows cpu work.At high volume there is always barely audible electrical hummming...Disabling on-board audio in Windows does not have any effect at all.I get the same thing in bios...
What i have tried so far:
    1.Uninstalled/reinstalled audio/video drivers.

I have the same problem, have tried 3 PSUs, and nothing, the only solution was to buy an pci-e sound card.
The problem appear when MSI updated BIOS 2.0 to 2.1.
Please don't hijack other people threads, and why don't you flash back to 2.0 or the newest beta? Start your own thread and we can discuss this.

I took gtx 560 ti completely out but no luck. Also took psu out temporary and placed it on the floor. Not even a slight change
Taking the psu out doesn't really do anything, taking the mainboard out and placing it on a non-conductive surface is what I was recommending.  Test with the cpu, cooler, 1 stick of ram, igd and y our mouse / keyboard. After some other things though.
Testing with a different PSU would be good to rule that out as the culprit.

  • 2.6.30 and Plantronic DSP 500 USB headset

    Hi,
First of all, sorry if I made mistakes in english, my first language is french.
    Here is what's worried me:
I was using archlinux since kernel 2.6.28 and my headset was working fine, even with the kernel 2.6.29 series too.
After 2.6.30 upgrade, my headset microphone has stopped to work (in fact it's always in mute state).
I haven't try to rollback my kernel because at this time I had never did it before and I've prefered to try a fresh install... which did not work.
Unable to make it work, I've tried Ubuntu 9.04 (which is using kernel 2.6.28 series) and confirmed again that the device is working fine.
So, again,  I've completly formated my hard drive and step again with a fresh install.
Here is a quick 'how I proceed':
Install from archlinux latest CD and used network install to be up to date from the begining.
I've installed gnome environment. For the audio part I've proceed like this:
    pacman -S alsa-lib alsa-utils
I've added 'alsa' to my rc.conf file
After that, I've launched 'alsamixer' to configure my audio board device (which is working perfectly).
I've lauched 'alsamixer -c 1' to configure my plantronic headset. I set the volume levels to the middle (by the way mute/unmute function made power on and off the mute led on the headset making me think that the device is correctly detected).
I used 'sudo alsactl store' command to store my config.
If I launch gnome audio volume control applet, my microphone is always flagged as muted. If I unmute it; after closing the applet and launching it again; it show's me again a muted microphone.
After some time (I don't know how long I must wait), the headset led is going back to red meaning the microphone is in mute state.
If I reboot, the microphone is mutted too.
Well, in few words, I have no more idea on what to do...
If someone have some ideas it's welcome.
    Regards

  • Use microphone and sounds muted on iPone4 only

    Hi
We develop an application that records audio with microphone. Once the recorded sound, all audio sounds of the application ahve been muted.
If it would be muted during the record only, it would be ok. I just want to know how to restore the other sounds after the record interruption as quickly as possible ( Actually, there are between 10 to 20 secondes of silence ).
Thank you for your help !

    sholo,
If you have the Creative Surround Mixer (or maybe this is in the Audio Console for Fatalty), the front panel Mic (Mic2) mute button is there or in the Windows Mixer. I think the front mic input doesn't have 20dB boost, but if it's in the mixer, select that too. The Fatalty has a rear flexijack that supports a mic. Have you tried that as a test of the compatibility of your mic? SoundBlaster cards work best with mic impedance of ~600ohm. And then there's this: many games and applications set audio mixer input to the rear Mic. If that's what's going on (you can check that by seeing what mic input is selected in the mixer after you select Mic2 and play e.g., a game), then look into [url="http://www.muvaudio.com/muvixer/">Muvixer[/url] as a workaround that lets you keep your choice of mic.

  • Microphone starting muted on AIR application SDK 2.5

    According to the documentation
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/air/reference/html/flash/media/Microphone.html
"Content running in the AIR application sandbox does not need permission to access the microphone and no dialog is displayed. AIR content running outside the application sandbox does require permission and the Privacy dialog is displayed"
But I'm having problems starting the Microphone object, which starts muted and permissions need to be given right clicking on the flash object.
This function returns always true before permissions is given:
    public function isMuted():Boolean {
    var mic:Microphone = Microphone.getMicrophone();
    return mic.muted;
The swf loaded is inside the application sandbox, but it's failing also from the debugger.
Any ideas what else to look?
    Thanks,
    Guille

    Updated note:
This might be a possible work around...
The limitations I mentioned in my previous email apply when including the SWF file ‘for rendering’ – i.e. when using an <object/> tag.
In AIR a developer can include a SWF file as a script – i.e. using a script tag like so: <script src="lib/applicationupdater_ui.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"></script>. When doing this, the SWF is loaded in the application sandbox and JavaScript can call AS functions as if they were JS functions.
If the customer’s code doesn’t depend on displaying things (or the UI part is reasonably well separated from the rest of the logic), it should work without any changes. If not, it might require some changes, but still not as radical as rewriting their code to JavaScript.  A simple example of using a SWF in this way can be found at http://www.stratulat.com/blog/update-your-javascript-air-application-with-ease - it shows how to use the Application Updater library (a SWF) in a JavaScript application. This could be a starting point for the customer about how to use a SWF as a script and how it should “look like” in order to be used this way (as the framework is open-source).

  • TS4185 My Microphone is muted when I am on Facetime on my iPad2 and no one I have talked to knows how to un-mute it.

I have an iPad2 and recently, after the latest OS update, my microphone is muted in Facetime and I can't get that to change. Any ideas? I am sure it's some simple glitch but can't seem to find the answer.

Thank you!  Resetting resolved the issue with terrible sound when trying to use skype.  Sounds much better!
I am not sure what all changed when reset was applied to settings --- assume it defaults back to basic settings.  I have no idea what I had customized, so will slowly figure out.  I have noticed several things.  So far I had to add back my wallpaper and reenter password to get back on my wi-fi.
At least SKYPE is now audible.

  • T400s Microphone muting button and Windows 7

    Hello,
I have a brand new Lenovo T400s. It had Windows Vista operating system but a few days ago I installed Windows 7 on it.
It was Vista Premium and for that reason I had to install Windows 7 from a scratch.
Therefore all drivers were lost. I used ThinkVantage (Doctor) software to download necessary drivers from Lenovo web site.
Everything works except for microphone muting button (amber light in it does not react as well).
I was thinking that it a driver problem as my keyboard driver is now Standard keyboard PS/2 driver (installed by 7 automatically). But I was not able neither to find any suitable driver on Lenovo website, nor to encounter any description of this problem solution in the Internet.
Does anyone knows what can be done in this situation?
    Thank you.

if you're 100% sure you installed all the drivers then i don't know why, but i can confirm that button has nothing to do with the keyboard driver. there is no "lenovo keyboard driver"
i didn't have a problem with this at all. just double check (use system update) if you've got all the drivers.

  • HP pavilion dv7 microphone won't stay muted on reboot

I have a HP Pavilion DV7 P/N-A1L97AV with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.  I am having a problem with both the integrated microphone array and external microphone not staying muted when I reboot the computer.  I can mute system sounds and reboot that is still muted when I reboot, but not the microphones.  The only way to keep them muted is to mute all.  The reason this is a problem is that when I reboot, if I forgot to turn sound down I get feedback until I can mute the microphone.  I have not been able to figure out what has caused this but it is quite annoying, especially since I use the laptop with events for playback.  I do use the microphone for recording classes forweb-based classroom for elementary schools so I need it operational.

Have you tried starting it without battery?
    Have you reseated memory.
Try removing 1 stick of memory and see if it will start. If no joy, switch the memory sticks and try the other one.
