Muted Sound in Ga

I've been using an external Sound Blaster card for quite some time, worked perfectly with no problems. Unfortunately, last night it simply died, so I got a Sound Blaster Audigy SE. All mp3s and system sounds play just fine over the speakers, but when I try to play a game (mostly World of Warcraft), any sound that comes from the character or anywhere in front of it is horribly muted and distant. I've tried all the settings in the game sound controls, but all are volume and music toggles. I would appreciate a bit of advice with this.

Do you happen to have any EAX Presets loaded before you launch the game? If the game uses EAX itself, then there will be conflicts if you do not first disable EAX effects in your Console.

  • Muted sound at startup

When I start Windows 7 using bootcamp, my sound is muted until I check it. How do I fix this?

Found a solution, it may work for you too.
Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound, on that window pick "Speakers" and click the "Properties" button, on the Speakers Properties window click the "Enhancement" tab and make sure the "Disable all enhancements" is checked. That's it. Click OK twice to close the windows and reboot. The volume wont mute by itself anymore, and I couldn't hear any difference with this "enhancements"  disabled.

  • Enhanced dictation muting sound

Enhanced dictation mutes the sound when it's on. Is there any way to keep the audio playing while dictating so that I can listen in my headphones and dictate what I hear? I am transcribing interviews.

    Hello Sybarian,
Thank you for the question.  If you select Enhanced Dictation, your Mac converts words to text without sending the information to Apple:
    Use Enhanced Dictation
If you use Enhanced Dictation, also known as “Mac-based Dictation,” your Mac converts your words to text without sending any information to Apple. If you select this option, you’re prompted to download the language data your Mac needs for voice recognition. Your text appears as you speak, and you can use the keyboard, mouse, or trackpad to edit as you go.
If you don’t use Enhanced Dictation, your words are sent to Apple servers to be analyzed, helping your Mac understand what you’re saying. This method, also known as “server-based Dictation,” takes advantage of the latest language data.

  • Problem with muted sound in garageband recording

I have used GB for years to record male vocal without any issues until this week.  Now all my recordings sound 50 miles away - what am I doing wrong?  Here is a rundown of my recording routine . . .
    Open GB New Project
Select Voice option and click 'choose'
In 'save as' window I give my project a name and click 'create'
In 'tracks' I command delete 'female basic'
In 'real instrument' I select 'vocals' and 'male basic'
In 'input source' I select 'mono 1 (built-in input)
    In 'monitor' I select 'off'
I don't usually check 'automatic level control'
In the 'edit' tab I change nothing
In the GB toolbar I select 'preferences' where I only make sure that 'audio output' is set at 'built-in output' and 'audio input' is set at 'built-in input'
In the GB toolbar I make sure that 'metronome' is not selected and leave 'snap to grid' selected, as well as, 'show measures in LCD' selected
I then plug in my mic receiver (that's probably not it's real name) in to power and also into my computer jack
I open the 'track editor' - turn on my label mic - click record in GB and test the mic to make sure that it is ready to go
Since upgrading to Lion, however, the look of GB has changed some so when I open 'track editor' an 'audio region' appears on the left but I make no adjustments there.
I am wondering if I have some of my settings wrong.  And now that the recording is complete, is it too late to resolve this issue and salvage my project?

You are probably an experienced computer-audio user, so may not apply to you, but possibly more to others viewing this thread. I was fooled by a similar problem recently. Are you by chance using microphone-enabled earphones? They may not support listening on a computer. If there is a pause button built in to the microphone, try pressing it while listening; does the sound improve? Mine are JVC HAFR36S.

  • My sound is muted, and it's still blaring sound

As the title suggests, my Windows HP Pavilion Entertainment PC (I think, I'm just going on the label under my keyboard really. No idea with computer models to be honest) is having an issue where I'll plug in headphones and it'll put sound through the headphones, but still throw out sound through the speakers, something that is very annoying in a household with other people in it. And, when I try to change from the speakers to the headphones, which are working perfectly fine too, it doesn't give that option at all. And, when I have my sound muted, sound still plays on half the time. THen, there's a problem were I need to restart my computer if I close the lid for it to work.
Is this computer just so old that I need a new one already? Is it a bug? Is it something that can be easily fixed? How should I go about this problem?

  • Certain Sounds Muted

Hi, I was going on my usual rutine of watching a video when I get home.  I'm then surprised when it's muted.  Then, I check another video, same muted sound.  Then, I open minecraft, I hear sounds.  So, I go to turn up the sounds, used to the booping when I do so, I was once again surprised at the lack of that sound.  So some of my sounds are gone, including Youtube.  But the thing is, I still have Minecraft sounds.  What is this?

It's more severe than I thought.  I've just watched a minecraft video, and there was a voice for everyone else, but for me, all I hear are minecraft sounds.  WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

  • No sound from Color Classic

Hiya. I've got a Color Classic, very used. Sys 7.1, 6 megs RAM, 80 meg HD (remember when that seemed huge?)
It has no sound. None. At first, it had a muted sound, but now even that's gone. No sound if I plug in an external speaker or headphones either. I've opened it up and checked the connections on the speaker, and it looks good all the way thru.
I suspect it's the main board (with the external plugs and all), so I suppose I'd have to replace that if I manage to come across another CC (or maybe just exchange one for the other), but I'd like to know if there are any other possibilities, some simple thing that could be out of whack that I somehow might have missed.
    Thanks

    Brett
Given that you haven't missed the front-panel sound and brightness controls of the CC (the harbinger of things to come on some of the later AIOs), you may have analogue board problems. Although on-board capacitors had gone through a couple of generations by the time of the CC, even the newer types are 14-odd years old now. The audio of AIO 68k Macs is highly sensitive to capacitor degeneration, for which the sole remedy is replacement of the capacitors. Replacement CC analogue boards are getting scarce, so repair is likely to be quicker. Washing the logic board can often make a considerable improvement to capacitor-induced problems on that board, but the logic board is where the better capacitors fail less often.
Colour Classics can be upgraded in various ways. The first, when one is running, is to maximize RAM by replacing the 2 x 1MB SIMMs with 2 x 4MB. (There is 4MB of soldered-in RAM.) The CC will, however 'see' only 10MB of the resulting 12MB. VRAM can be doubled by adding a 256kB SIMM, and a 68882 maths coprocessor (FPU) can be added, if you do enough number-crunching to need one. In this state you could put an Apple IIe-emulator card in the LC PDS slot. If not one of those, a 10Base-T Ethernet NIC in that slot. The emulator cards have gone from USD10 to USD40 on eBay in the last couple of years. The Apple II ware needs a 10MB partition of its own, on say, a larger HDD of about 500MB as another upgrade.
The second kind of upgrade is to replace the logic board. There is already a forum devoted to Mystic, Takky and other hacks of CCs. If you go this way you will not be able to use the Apple IIe card.

  • No sound in apps. New iPad problem or iOS 5.1 problem?

I had a problem where app sounds would not play unless I had headphones in, though music always worked. I read a recently solved issue where someone had a similar problem. Notifications were not muted, sound was at full volume. I did everything I could to get sound to work properly and have discovered a bug.
Unless the physical toggle switch is dedicated to mute or un-mute instead of orientation lock, app sounds are not regulated correctly. If you are having problems with sound only working in music, you may be one of the many who repurposed your physical toggle switch.
Change it back to mute or unmute, and everything should be fine.
I'm also guessing that if you mute your iPad with the toggle switch and then dedicate it to orientation lock, the iPad remembers both your mute dedication, and your orientation toggle, however switching up or down only affects the current purpose even if it remembers the settings for both.
Let me know if this helps.

I use the side switch for screen orientation lock and have no issues with sound whatsoever in any apps and never did.
You do know that you can control system sounds via the task bar  - if you are using the side switch for screen lock like I do - when you double tap the home button and swipe all the way to the right to get to the mute icon on the left side?
Are you familiar with this? This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • [Arch 0.7] no sound with snd-intel8x0

It's not like there is no sound to hear, but aplay & xmms simply dont play anything. Xmms (with Alsa) gets stuck at 00:00 and aplay doesnt stop playing (well, i dont actually hear that 'play') a 5 sec wav (so i think it doesnt start playing like xmms). It seems that this is not a problem of muted sound or unplugged speakers (everything works perfectly with windows xp).
    using:
linux 2.6.10-arch, devfs (udev didnt work either)
    running on a notebook:
Acer Extensa 3002 WLMi (the 'better' version of Acer Travelmate 4002 WLMi)
    Intel Pentium M 725 Centrino 1.6GHz
    ATI Radeon 9700/64mb Mobility
    100GB HDD, 512 MB DDR
built-in speakers (working with windows xp)
I already re-installed arch, tried kernel24 and 2.6.9, jumped in circles and prayed to every single god-like metaphor i've ever heard of ever...

Your sound card is in your computer, eh ? You do not remove it everyday from your computer, eh ? Then WHY do you compile that as a module ?????
If you want to avoid lots of problems, stop compiling as module what you use everyday and cannot be removed from your computer.
For ex I would compile pcmcia as module but not the soundcard driver for it needs a lot of dependencies(10 modules !!!!).
Here is the way to fix your problem : build your module inside the kernel !!!
    Alsa==>PCI==> Intel
and here is the way to configure alsa :
    pacman -S alsa-utils
    amixer set Master unmute
    amixer set PCM unmute
    alsamixer
    alsactl store
    echo "alsactl restore" >> /etc/rc.local
Firstly dude. The standard arch kernel has it as a module because not everyone has this card.
Second dude. People put it as a module because occassionally programs crash, and sometimes if they were using the soundcard, it's locked up requiring a reboot. Removing and reloading the module fixes this.
Besides, whats the problem with it having lots of dependencies when used as a module? If you compile the driver into the kernel, the deps are compiled in. If you load the driver with modprobe, it autoloads the deps. The deps arent a problem

Hi, I have a small problem with my Z10, No notification sounds come through at all when I have my wired headset is plugged in.
The phone rings as normal during incoming calls/ txts and all I get is muted sound when listening to music at the time of the call.
I've the very latest 10.3 update but it's still not working. I want to be able to hear any notifications that arrive to my phone when my wired headset is plugged in. It must be an easy fix??

It says "Stop Email Updates" (indicating I should be getting them). Also, they do not show up in an spam folder. My almost worthless ISP always tells me they need headers from rejection notices that senders get when they try to send me something. But how am I supposed to get those? No one I ever have this problem with ever says they get a rejection notice.
