Mutilple Hint Captions

Hi,
Is there any way to get "Multiple Hint Captions" on a single
button ?
-Raj

Hi Raj and welcome to our community
If by "Multiple hint captions" you mean you wish to see two
or more captions appear, the answer is yes. But it will require a
bit of work.
You would create a slide with basic normal captions arranged
exactly like you want to see them. Then screen capture this slide.
Create an image containing the captions. Then edit the hint caption
to point at the new image.

  • Hint captions - how to make them work

    Hello all,
Can someone shed light how to make hint captions work? I created a training progect with all default options - it generates all four caption: Text, success, failure and hint.
The problem is that hint captions are not shown when hoovering over the clickbox area... in fact they never show up whatever i do.
Am I missing something obvious here?
    Thanks!

    OK.  Thanks.
Now do one more thing: Select the click box object that you can see in this example and from the Modify menu item, click Arrange > Bring to Front.  Then republish and test.
This is a bit of a long shot, but what I'd checking for here is that there is a known issue in Cp 5x where sometimes an object is shown as being at the top level layer in the timeline when in fact it may be several layers deep. So your click box might actually be underneath another object and thereby NOT seeing the mouseover to trigger the Hint caption.

  • Hint Caption Stays After Navigating Back

I've read all the previous posts, but I'm not as easy to
please as everybody else I guess. This seems like perfectly
reasonable functionality to me and there has got to be some kind of
    work-around.
The problem as most of you already know is that with
roll-overs and hint captions, if you use the button to go somewhere
and then use another button to navigate back, the caption stays
until the user mouses over it again.
The only solution I can come up with on my own is to make the
'back' or 'return' button in the same spot as the mouse-over so
that the user inadvertently clears their own screen, but this just
    seems silly.
I've also tried having the user browse to a slide preceeding
the 'menu' slide that's only 0.1 seconds long, but this doesn't
reset the mouse-over effect either. Is there no way to trick the
caption into thinking the mouse has left the rollover area when
navigating away from that page? Is there a way to reset the entire
movie and have it jump to that particular slide? Seems like this
problem was around and reported during Captivate 1.0 and it's still
not fixed in 2.0. Seems like there should be some easy way to have
the particular slide in question reset whenever the user returns to
it. Any help would really be appreciated.
This is my first post, BTW, hope I don't sound too upset :-)
This problem has been plaguing my work for a while is all.

The solution I posted worked only in preview, hence removig
    it from here.
I will recommend that you let the developers for Adobe
Captivate know about the issue. Please file it using
    this
    form.

  • How to make bubble texts and captions linkable.

    Greetings from Australia
I am trying to use iBooks Author for creating a genealogy book containing lots of text and being quite picture-laden. The Gallery widget is superb for all my pics and the Glossary comes in handy for the heaps of genealogy texts I want to connect to people of our family by linking their names in the body text to the Glossray, but I want more.
Some pics are group photos of family members and I am looking for an elegant way to link the people's heads or thier names to the appropriate genealogical details. When using the Interactive Image widget for a group photo with bubbles connected to people’s heads, it would like to connect their names in the bubbles to the Glossary or to whatever other spot in the book. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to work.
The same problem arises when trying to link people's names in the captions of pics. These captions cannot be used as links or for the Glossary.
Any idea how to cope with this problem? Perhaps a customized widget or so? Thanx for your help.

Click box Hint captions normally appear automatically when the user places their mouse over the top of the click box hit area. Are you saying your click boxes DO NOT show Hint captions until clicked?  Normally the captions that would appear when the click box is clicked are not Hints, but either Success or Failure captions.  Do you perhaps NOT have Hint captions selected for these click boxes?

  • Add smart shape in caption on quiz slide

    Hi!
I´m trying to add a smart shape on a question slide in the failure and success captions. However, the shapes aren´t visible and I can´t add audio which is my main purpose. I want the participant to have the option to click on the smart shape when they have answered a question and the success or failure caption shows, and by clicking on the shape the audio plays. Adding smart shapes with this function on other parts of the question slides works fine, I just have problems with the failure and success captions.
    I use Captivate version 8.
    Kind regards, Gunilla

@andreleal Just to rectify: in Captivate 8 you can replace the default captions by default shapes, there is a style for bot in the OSM. When you check this option, it is not only valid for Success/Failure/Hint captions on interactive objects but also on Question slides. I never use captions anymore when I can avoid them.
But I don't think that is what the OP was asking for. He wants to insert a shape in the SHF captions to create a shape button that can trigger an audio clip. Inserting something interactive in a caption has never been possible. And inserting an interactive object on a question slides is only possible, within limits for shape buttons. Maybe some clarification, although not the exact solution in this blog post:

  • How to record an interactive tutorial with a permanent hint button?

    Hello,
I'd like to record a tutorial which would make a user do something requiring a few clicks and I'd like a hint button to be permanently displayed and when the user clicks it it will give the answer. For example I'd like to write a caption: "Now your turn, please save this document as a new document in the Invoices folder". I'd  like the user to be bale to click as many times as he wants but the hint button should  be displayed permanently and if the user wishes to click it it will display the answer for example: " Click: File", "Click Save as", etc.
I've tried to set up a tutorial but it only showed the hint when the user actually clicked the right button which missed the point.
I would appreciate if someone could help and let me know how to set it up or direct to an appropriate help link.
    Kind regards,
    hutia

    Hello and welcome,
Do you mean that the default hint caption is not what you want? I could explain a way to do it, but it will mean a lot of extra work. First tell me which version (exact number please) of Captivate you are using? How much experience do you have with advanced (shared) actions and variables? Does it have to be a 'click' button or is a rollover caption also possible?
The idea is to show a text container that has a variable, when clicking or rolling over the button (I would prefer a shape button for several reasons). The variable could be populated when entering each slide with the proper text. With this approach timing for the rest of the project is possible both for the button and for the text container.
If you'd do it with a different button on each slide, and a different text container, you'll end up with a lot of objects to be maintained (and a bigger filesize), in that case I would recommend shared actions for sure.

  • Display Hint after 3 incorrect clicks

I have recorded a training simulation and very much enjoy the
"Hints" which are displayed when you rollover a click box. However,
I would like to know how you can automatically display the hint
after 3 incorrect clicks (or clicks outside of the click box). This
seems like it would be an easy enough thing to do and someone has
probably done it or knows how - I just cant figure it out since I'm
    still learning captivate.
    Thanks

I know this is an old thread, but I came up with a solution to this problem after some digging that I think might work incase anyone else has come across this problem. My method was as follows.
    1. Create two click boxes, identical in size and stacked on top of each other in the stage. Set them one after the other in the timeline - I put the first one on bottom in the but it doesn't really matter in the layers because the click boxes do not operate simultaneously. Also create a text caption that contains the hint you want to give your user. Place the text caption under the click box in the time line so it does not overlap with the first text box.
    2. On the first click box, set the options to...
On Success: Go to the next slide
    Attempts: 3
    Last Attempt: Continue
No success, failure, or hint captions
Others: Only Pause project until user clicks.
    2. On the second box, set the options to...
On Success: Go to the next slide
    Attempts: Infinite
No success, failure, or hint captions
Others: Only Pause project until user clicks.
That's it. It will pause on the first click box until the three attempts are spent, then it will play the second click box as it shows the hint.

  • On Reject caption not appearing in Drag and Drop interaction

    Hi
I am playing around with drag and drop interaction to understand its functionality.
I noticed that we can set Accept, Reject, and Hint captions to individual drop targets. When I tested it, I got the Accept and Hint captions as expected. But I am not getting the Reject caption even when I place the wrong source on the target.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Sreekanth

    Hi there,
Reject caption shows up when an unacceptable source is dropped on a Target. To configure the 'Accept criteria', select a drop target, Click on the 'Accept' button, Deselect the checkbox corresponding to the unacceptable source. (As shown below)
Now whenever the user drops 'Unaccept' source on top of the target, the 'Reject' caption shows up.
    Thanks,

  • Simulation-failure captions won't display

The failure captions won't disply in a simulation, only the hint caption. I removed other interacitve buttons and it still doesn't work.

I've created a simple project that recreates this issue, with hopes that someone here or someone from the Captivate team can take a look and see if I'm missing something, or acknowledge as a bug.
    http://www.eternal-visions.com/FailureCap.cptx.zip
If you test the project, as is, the failure captions will not work.  If you uncheck the "remain on top" box of the smart shape button on slide 1.. failure caps return.  But, then the smart shape gets burried under other objects.
    Thanks for your time.

  • Using a Flash button and rollover captions simultaneously

    Hi,
I have a button that I created in Flash. When hovered over, the button turns a different color. I'd like to use this button simultaneously with the rollover caption feature in Captivate, but it looks like I can only get one or the other to work, depending which is stacked on top.
Anyone have any workaround ideas, besides creating each button individually in Flash and adding the text in the hover state?
    I'm using CP6.
    Thanks!

    Hi there
Why use Flash just to create a button rollover? Captivate offers Image buttons where you specify up to three images used for rollovers. And with the Captivate button you could enable the Hint caption to provide the rollover you are seeking.

  • Change the format of ALL text captions

In Captivate 7, I have a simulation; text captions are gray, I want to color them green ALL OF THEM, in a single step. How? Thanks.

Started to reply yesterday evening, but was too tired. It is a bit less simple, Sreekanth, perhaps you missed this 'I have a simulation'.
Because this is a simulation, you could have different styles being used for the captions (Capture Caption Style, Hint Caption Style, Failure Caption Style...). Process described by Sreekanth has to be done for each of those styles, and then I hope you didn't yet override a style...

  • Change caption type

    I'm a captivate-user-in-training.
My settings created text captions, hint (rollover) captions,
and failure captions when I recorded my training video, which was
ok. I was instructed to delete the text captions, but keep the hint
captions. Hint captions seem to be the same thing as rollover
captions, and I don't want them to display on a rollover - I want
them on the slide most of the time. Is there a way to change the
type of caption without having to create all new ones? Even better,
is there a way to change the type of all the captions at once?
Caption properties don't seem to offer that option, but I'm
    hoping maybe it's somewhere I haven't looked.

    Hi klhdv
Caption types fall into a few different categories.
    * Standard Text Captions
    * Feedback Captions
    * Rollover Captions
While you should be able to change all of one category type
to another type within the same category, you cannot change them
across multiple categories. For example, if you are using Adobe
Blue for a Standard Text Caption and you want ALL your Standard
Text Captions to be Adobe Blue, you could use the "Apply to all"
feature you see on the Caption dialog to accomplish it. But if you
also wanted to change all "Success" captions to be Adobe Blue, you
would have to edit one of the Success captions, make the change,
then use the Apply to all feature.
Yeah, I know the Apply to all feature has an area where it
says "All caption types", but in my experience, it doesn't work
most of the time for this.
Here is the difference between a Hint caption and a simple
rollover caption. A Hint caption is associated with a Button, Click
Box, or Text Entry Box object. It appears when mousing over these
objects to provide a "hint" that something can be done. With a
standard typical Rollover Caption, you simply define an area where
you want the user to mouse over and have the caption appear when
mousing over the area. The big difference here is that with the
former objects, they are interactive. The user normally has to do
something with them. Click or type text. And with the latter, they
    simply mouse over and read.
One more bit on changing the Caption type. There is no
facility I'm aware of that you may use inside Captivate to perhaps
right-click a feedback caption and choose to convert it to a
standard Text Caption or a Rollover Caption.
Hopefully this was helpful to you... Rick

  • Persistent Hint Button?

I'm recording a software simulation using C8. In one section, I'd like the learner to practice what I've just shown them. I'd like for there to be a persistent hint button that would give them instruction if they get stuck or forget what was said in the audio.
I don't like the way the default hint captions for the buttons function because the caption only displays when the learner rolls over the area they are supposed to click or insert text. I've tried a few different options using smart shapes as buttons, but as soon as I clicked on the button the presentation advanced and I didn't have to complete the original task. Then, I tried a default smart shape and covered it with a rollover caption. I'm not really excited about that option either because the shape looks so plain and it's cumbersome to create one for every slide.
I don't have much experience with advanced actions, but I was wondering if there's an easier way to accomplish this or if the rollover caption is going to be my best option.
    Thanks in advance!

Thought I mentioned shared actions, since you are using CP8 it is perfectly possible. You can use the same shared action over and over again, with one parameter: the text caption. A good  labeling discipline for the captions will save you time. Was a bit afraid to post more links to my blog, most of my recent posts were about shared actions:
Dare to Share - part 1 - Captivate blog  is an intro (still for CP7)
Dare to Share - part 2 - Captivate blog
Captivate 8 - First Adventures - Captivate blog
Parameters in Shared Actions - Captivate 7 vs. 8 - Captivate blog
Reuse Shared Actions in other Projects - Captivate 7 vs. 8 - Captivate blog
Sorry for all those links, but there is very little documentation in the Help. Shared actions (I know Rod doesn't like them) can really save time, moreover they will reduce file size compared with using duplicate advanced actions.

  • Cp6 - Building assessment type simulations - failure caption occurs too soon!

Greetings and happy day before the end of the world.
Assuming that life will exist (in its current form) after Friday, I've got a job to do so, here is my question.
I am building assessment simulations and I am wondering if there is an easy way to either default or change the number of guesses the learner can make *before* they see the failure caption.
Currently the default in Captivate 5.5 (simulations are recorded in version 5.5 and then published in version 6) is that the failure caption appears immediately after the learner clicks on the incorrect area.
Can this be changed so that the learner is able to click twice before they see the failure caption?
The hint caption is useless because it only appears when the learner hovers over the correct location. Is there something I am missing? But remember, time is money, so the effort to make this change, either during the recording (as a default change) or in post editing must be simple and quick, otherwise it isn't worth it.
    Thank you

  • Drag and Drop Smart Shapes Not Scoring Correct

I have 6 smart shapes as drag sources and 6 smart shapes as drop targets. All of them are the exact same size, but I can't get them to recognize a correct answer using an absolute snap behavior and a 20 pixel hit padding. There is more than enough space around each target so there is no overlapping going on. It continues to show a failure when all of the drag sources are correctly placed on the targets.

I checked your interaction and here are my observations. I have also added how I went about testing, so that you can probably repeat the same when face a similar issue. My approach is just my way, and not necessarily the best way.
It was clear that the interactions were not accepting your correct answers. So, to identify which "correct" answers were considered incorrect by the interaction:
          a) I created a variable "CheckAns" and displayed it in a text caption.
          b) In the Acceptable Drag Sources of each Drop Target (select the drop target, click Accept.. in the Drop Target accordion), I executed the following advanced action for the correct combination.
                 i) Increment CheckAns by 1
                ii) Assign cpCmndGotoFrame with cpInfoCurrentFrame
For example, the Vision drop target accepts all sources. I executed the advanced action only for Vision source. Thus, when the Vision source is dropped on the target, the variable value in the text caption I created in 1.a) increments by 1.
Result: When I took a preview of this version, I noticed that Vision and Integrity sources were not considered as the right answers even when I place them on the right targets, probably because I was not placing the sources in the right positions. (I played around your targets before this step. So, when you test, this might happen for some other objects.)
Next step was to identify the exact "right" position for these two sources. So, I enabled the On Hint caption for these objects. The On Hint caption appears only when you drag the source to the "acceptable" position of the drop target. To enable it, select the drop target, go to Drop Target accordion, and select the On Hint check box.)
Result: The On Hint caption appeared when I drag the source a bit too far from the actual Drop Target object. And, when I placed the source in that position, my CheckAns variable value increased by 1.
Conclusion: The issue is because of the position. It will be better (and perhaps more easier) to create this interactivity from scratch. Do not use the drop sources and targets from this interaction. Also, for Failure, I suggest you assign the "Go to next slide" action instead of Continue. This is just to ensure that the project moves to next slide and not necessarily the next frame (Continue command moves only next frame). Also, as a best practice, I strongly encourage you to use appropriate names for any objects in your project. For example, you can name Vision source object as Vis_Src. The Next button can be named "Next_Bt". When I opened your project, that is the first thing I did. It will be extremely useful when you are using these objects in advance actions. Imagine how difficult it will be if you want to hide the Next button on the last slide of your project, and you will see a huge list of buttons, named Button_1 to Button_127. Which button will you hide?
Additional info: I started a blank project. I created similar drop sources and targets (circles with outlines) and layout, and used only your success caption. Added the verification elements I mentioned above and everything worked fine.
    Hope this helps.
