Mutiple files to iDVD

Hello out there,
I have a folder with 13 avi files that I need to load in iDVD and burn to a disk.I would like them to play one right after the other. I also want to drag the files into the start automatically window so as to skip the themes. Do I just drag the files one on top of the other or is there some other way.
Thanks

I would put them into iMovie and then drag the iMovie project into iDVD.

  • How Do I Use DVD Studio Pro Files In iDVD?

I had somebody create a DVD for me using DVD Studio Pro. (This was a compilation of many different videos.) It turned out great.
I now want to make a DVD of one of those videos on my own using iDVD '08.
I have the raw video/audio files. But, my problem is the raw files that were used for the DVD Studio Pro project are separated into one video file and one audio file. I don't know how I can get them both into iDVD. I was told that I have to recombine these two files into one file. But, how do I do this and still maintain the best quality?
(I am not a video expert by any means, but I can tell you that the video file is a ".mpeg" and the audio file is an ".ac3". When looking at the .mpeg file in the finder it lists its Kind as "MPEG Movie" and when looking at the .ac3 file in the finder it lists its Kind as "Unix Executable File".)
(I'm using iDVD 7.0.1 - I do have Quicktime Pro - I do not have the Quicktime MPEG-2 Playback component - I do not have DVD Studio Pro)
Thanks in advance for your help!

Q: How Do I Use DVD Studio Pro Files In iDVD?
    A: You don't, essentially.
DVDSP is apple's top end app and it is intended to be used with FCP > Compressor > DVDSP. All of these are pro apps.
i-Apps are consumer apps all of which are QT based. With that in mind ....
now that doesn't mean you can't use FCP > iDvd. You can. But you have to do it in a way that iDvd will read all the files (meaning you must think in terms of QuickTime and export in this way). So when you export your QT File / Movie from FCP over to iDvd, it will look something like this hopefully regardless of the raw image & audio files you have already compiled which unfortunately will NOT work with i-Apps BUT will work with apple's pro apps which is the intended workflow / direction of said files in the first place.
Btw ... if your QT movie has chapter markers then please use the following settings so iDvd can read these markers. (if on the other hand you were looking to export this file to DVDSP; then you would choose DVDSP Markers.
Let me know if the above helps. If not, just come on back.

After burning a successful DVD in iDVD out of FCPX, how can I see the settings it used?
So I finally burned a DVD out of a Apple Pro Res file into iDVD in PAL format. My question now is how can I find out what the exact burn properties were so that I can apply the same burn properties to a project in Compressor 4?
Is it possible to see what iDVD did?

I don't know any way you can interrogate iDVD to reveal settings to the extent that you can in a Compressor project. What you could do is open up the show's VOB in MPEG STreamclip, go to File and Reveal Stream Information; that will at least give you some rudimentary info like average bit rate. Perhaps someone, with more iDVD experience, can chime in here.
The broader question is why use Compressor at all if your current workflow is doing the job to your satisfaction?
The value of Compressor is that it gives you control over the many parameters that affect size quality.  and playability. The Compressor presets can give you a starting point for DVD delivery, Web, etc. From those presets, people typically experiment by adjusting the parameters until they get the desired results for their specific show. It's a little bit science and a little bit art. After experimenting, you may be able to get slightly better quality for the project you've successfully burned in iDVD by using Compressor and something likeToast…or maybe not.
    Good luck.

  • Can't Export Keynote slide show file to iDVD?

I am having difficulty exporting a 12mb Keynote slide show file to iDVD. When I go to export, a warning stating that 'There is not enough disc space or a problem with the file' appears. I have enough disc space and I don't think that I am corrupting the file in any way. I've also tried a 'dummy' version with only two slides in the show, still get same message. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    intel 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I don't have a solution, but I'm having the same problem. I just installed iWork 06 and iLife 06. I have tried this on 2 machines one running 10.4.6 and the other running 10.3.9. And both give the same error. I called Tech support and first talked to the iWork department. The tech actually was having the same problem when he tried. He did research and talked to a product specialist to no avail. Then he transferred me to the product specialist, who was also having the problem and said they would escalate the issue to the engineers to see if its something they know about already or need to look at. I'm curious if anyone has actually been able to use this feature and when people started having problems. Because before installing iWork, there was a recent security update that I had installed on both these machines, and I wonder if that may have caused anything.
As far as preferences, there are two folders named Library one directly on your hard drive and one in your home folder. Both have a folder called Preferences, in Library/Preferences there's a file called com.apple.Keynote.plist and in home/library/preferences there's a file com.apple.iWork.Keynote.plist These are the preference files for Keynote. On rare occassions preference files can become currupt causing errors in the application. If you delete the file the application just creates a new fresh one the next time you launch, but settings go back to default. But this sometimes fixes problems. However I have a feeling this may not work for this problem.

  • AVI Files for iDVD ((QUESTION))

    Hello,
I took some digital video on my new digial camera.
The video files are AVI. I am able to play them via quicktime on my mac mini with no problem.
The issue I am having is when I want to burn the files into iDVD.. I get error messages. I can import the files fine.. Its just wen I get to the rendering phase I get an error.
Do I need to convert the AVI files to .MOV? What must I do?
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    D.

Not all .AVI files us the same CODECs (AVI is really just a file 'wrapper') and I've have very mixed results using AVI files directly.
I use ffmpegX at http://homepage.mac.com/major4/ to convert my AVI files to DV Stream for use in iMovie/iDVD.

  • Divx file in idvd

I was able to use the latest beta divx for Tiger and watch a divx file in QT. I also put through idvd and burned a dvd. Problem is the dvd will not work in my TV's dvd player(s), but works fine on my G5's dvd player.
What do I do next ?
    Thanks for any help.

Yes. I've played all of my idvd burned movies from home vcr and 8mm tapes. Also burned using popcorn with no issues.
Its first time I have tried dropping a divx file into idvd and then burning. The dvd works fine in my mac drive but not american or european players.

  • FCP file to iDVD

Haven't done iDVD nor my aging FCP3 for awhile and am just getting confused by codecs. What is best file codec for iDVD, do I just make a QT file or do I choose one, ie Sorenson,etc... or just go Export>FCP>Quicktime and step back.

Go to File->Export->QuickTime Movie (on FCP 3 it may say "Final Cut Pro Movie" instead). Do NOT use the QuickTime Conversion export method.
You can make the movie self-contained or not, but do NOT Recompress All Frames. Include Chapter Markers if needed.
Drop the resulting file into iDVD.

    HELP

when saving as a project doesn't rename anything,it just makes your life easier and places everything in one folder with subfolders of your audio files, and whatever you have selected to be included in your project folder.
what you mean by song 10 audio?
Press A on your keyboard>Set Audio object record path window will appear you can type the name there under file name ,when done with recording your audio will have the name you typed in there.
or you can select the text tool after recording, select the tool and click on the region you just recorded,
you can also click on the regions parameter's box name and type the name you want your audio file to have

  • What format for saving files for idvd

I am new to Finalcut pro, I want to save and render a completed project on an external Hard Drive.  I would like to find a format that I can just drag the file into iDVD.  The cameras I am using are Canon Vixia HFS20's

I'd recommend exporting a master file – Pro Res 422 – and to bring that file into iDVD. iDVD will recognize your movie as 16X9 and will create an anamorphic standard def DVD. Should look great.
    Good luck.

  • Adding music files to iDVD project

    Hello All,
Sorry if this has been asked before... I didn't seem to find anything in my "search" of past posts...
A friend of mine recently passed away & I am (trying to) putting together a dvd to send to his brother that includes some home video of us ..... and I would like to include some music (files) from an old band he was in.... (he did a hme made cd)...
I'd like his songs to be in a separate folder and be able to select from them with the menu (like Toast sets up a "music dvd)...
All I have been able to figure to do is to include an iTunes playlist but that way one cannot jump from song to song... I even tried to do a seperate iMovie project with chapters for each song then export into iDVD & that (sort of) worked but I then couldn't figure out how to "combine" those "scenes" into my main project with the movies too...
Now I am going the looong way around and saving out individual clips of each song as full quality dv and then will try to add them into a folder in my main project....
My short question to all this long wind is:
is there a way to create a "slide show" of individual music files the same way that slide show of photos works... so that you can move around between them with the menu.... all I have found is that a play list can be added into the sound "well" but then you cna't skip from song to song like you can with a what Toast does when it sets up a music dvd
    any ideas?
thanks & regards to all for a great holiday
    from the coast of Maine
    -Larry

Well...I'm not sure if my suggestion or ideas will help, but you could certainly use iMovie to organize and edit the movie portion of your DVD, then for the music portion, first add your songs to iTunes, then go back to your iMovie project, select the songs you want to add to your DVD project, and drag each song into the timeline. Now, you can add chapter markers at the beginning of each song. This might not give you a separate folder to open (folders are for data DVDs), but at least your audience will be able to see each song title and skip through the songs as neededce they are chapters. Other than this, you might want to wander over to the Toast discussion forum on the Roxio.com site where users of Toast may have a suggestion. With Toast, you might be able to drag your video and audio portions of your project into Toast separately, that way you only have two chapters: Video and Audio.

  • How do I use a xml file in iDVD

    Hello All,
Hopefully someone can help.  I'm new to Mac, Final Cut Pro (Trial), and iDVD 09.  I a making a project with several chapters in FCPX and would like to use iDVD for the menus.  The only export option I have in FCPX I have is Export XML.  I exported to XML, go to iDVD Media Tab-Movies and I cannot see it.  I cannot drag it into iDVD as other discussions in here have suggested.  Is iDVD incapable of using XML ?  Also is there a way to export from FCPX to Quick Time ?
Could the issue be that I'm using a trial, I don't want to pay $300 if this software won't work for me.
    thanks for any advice.
    Jayne

Sorry, I just have to be super clear here.
"It always works" and "it is always MP3 and it all works" means:
I drop an MP3 file into InDesign that plays on page view.
I create an app on iOS, via DPS.
The audio plays on the iPad.
I have to have a "definitely, because I have done exactly that" answer here, not a "you're supposed to do it that way", or "it always works, in the sense that I have exported a PDF with an MP3 and that worked," before we put the cash out for the Pro version. As I mentioned before, I would test this out myself, and tried to, but the educational version blocks me from publishing to the iPad.
I have to know that we are talking about exactly the same thing here.
    Thanks,

  • Using Multiple iMovie files in iDVD

After how quickly I learned to use iMovie, I'm quite upset with how difficult it is to do what I want in iDVD. Here's the issue:
My parents went on a trip last year and took a lot of video (over 9 hours). Over the past few months, I've pared this down to just under 2 1/2 hours. My sister, who is a journalist, at one point suggested extracting all the audio to make it easier to edit. I'm not sure how much easier this made it, but I did it nonetheless. This made the file just over 50GB, and it was so large that the audio was choppy when I tried to play it as one big file. So I had to cut the movie into 12 files of 10-15 minutes each and finish the editing.
The point is that now I want to make a DVD out of this, but iDVD won't let me re-combine my 12 files into one big movie with separate chapters. It wants me to have 12 separate movies, each with 3-4 scenes (and even getting it to show all 12 "Play movie" and "Select Scenes" buttons on the menu page is difficult).
Basically what I want is to show iDVD that after it plays scene 4 from file 1, it should go to scene 1 of file 2, not back to the main menu. This should of course continue until all 12 files are done. I also want the "Scene Selection" menu to include all 40-50 scenes instead of having 12 different "Scene Selection" menus, but so far as I can tell, there's no way to add something so simple as a "next" button! If I could do this, then the main menu would have only two buttons (play movie and select scenes) instead of 24.
Is there any way to make iDVD understand that these 12 files are really one movie without having to combine them all together again in iMovie? Even doing that would require me to purchase an external hard drive, since the separate files are now 60GB and I only have 47GB free space... and I don't want to paste one file into another and then immediately delete it (which I know would allow me to combine all files without need of extra space) since this leaves me with no back up if something goes wrong during the pasting of these large 4-5GB files.
Or does someone know of a different, free, iMovie-compatible (so I don't have to remake all my chapter titles) program that lets me do what I want for myself?

I agree with everything that F Shippey said.
For future reference, I believe that your problem started when you extracted all of the audio from your video files. When you did that, you created several audio files. The number, not the size, of audio files likely is what caused that choppy playback that in turn moved you to cut up your movie into 12 files. That made a mess, because when you exported to iDVD you were stuck with 12 movies that you cannot not combine in iDVD. Of course, you had no way of knowing that extracting the audio into several clips would cause the choppiness. (The choppiness will be only on playback, not in your final product.) You would have had to have been reading the iMovie forum for a couple of months, where audio stutter and skipping have been frequently discussed. The next time around I would suggest that you leave the audio embedded in the video and not extract it. Embedded audio does not seem to cause stutter on playback. Also, in your iMovie preferences, set your playback quality to Standard (smoother) playback, and that might help.
If your sister or friend has an apple computer with some extra disk space, you could back up your movie to that computer using a firewire connection. But external drives are so inexpensive now, you might consider buying an Apple formatted external drive for yourself. (A windows formatted one will not work.) You can always use more storage space even after you are done with this project.
Sorry for all your trouble here. We've all gone through that frustration at one time or other as we learn our way through these movie programs. The good news is that you've done nothing that isn't correctible. Some folks lose their entire project, which increases the suicide rate considerably.

  • .wmv file in iDVD

HELP! I have been working on a wedding video for months. I did all editing w/ Windows Media. Then, purchased mac and started working w/ iDVD to make one project with the video and some pictures. When I get the video into iDVD, it plays fine. But when I try to burn the project, it comes up w/ an error saying I need to decompress it and use Quicktime. I have Quicktime Pro and flip4Mac. Not sure if any of it will help but sure would appreciate some straight forward advice on how to get my wmv video into iDVD so that I can burn the project. Thanks!

You need to purchase flip4mac, which allows wmv files to be played in Quicktime. Here is the link:
    http://www.flip4mac.com/wmv.htm
This also now allows you to import the wmv file into iMovie (directly from iMovie's import function from the menu), and you may have to convert it to a Quicktime file to use for iDVD.
I use this for playing high quality wmv files that windows media player for mac plays poorly, and it works great playing these files in Quicktime. Once you have flip4mac installed, right-click on any wmv file, choose 'get info', and go to the 'open with' section and select WMV player instead of windows media player, and clich change all so that all of your wmv files will now play with Quicktime by default.
