Mutt sidebar and imap gmail account: Segmentation fault

Hi,
i recently installed mutt sidebar, but i cannot get it to work. if i use "mailboxes =INBOX" it gives segmentation fault, with that line commented out, it works (except for no sidebar folders)
i've tried with +INBOX, +Inbox, =Inbox, Inbox, INBOX, [Gmail]/INBOX, and nothing seems to work
is there a guide or something around the web to setup mutt sidebar with gmail correctly? or also a tool to discover my gmail folder tree?

There's this:
http://pbrisbin.com:8080/pages/mutt.html
My mutt configuration is heavliy based on it.

  • Both Pop AND IMAP Gmail accounts in Mail?

OK this is bugging me. Suddenly I noticed several email duplicates from my only Gmail account, that I check on my Mac in Mail. When checking accounts in Preferences, I see now TWO Gmail accounts enabled, one POP, another IMAP. I can't remember which one is the older one that I've been using for years. I guess it's the IMAP account, since I've been keeping copies of my emails in my Mac and my Gmail "all mail" folder online.
I think it happened when Safari 5.1 asked to syncronize and/or use "x" automatically with iChat, Mail, Calendar, etc., and added the POP. My question is, which one of those accounts is safe to delete or disable in Mail? Can it be done just like that? In the Gmail settings I see both POP and IMAP are enabled. Should I just disable POP and voilá?
    Thanks.
    rolando

As you may have learnt by now POP downloads the mail to your computer and depending on your settings may also delete from server. So the mail on your computer is the only copy you have. IMAP accounts can be deleted and added later but POP are not that simple.
I suggest turn off POP, use IMAP, continue using IMAP for a while and then delete POP.
There are excellent guides in the discussions here, just search for 'switching from POP to IMAP'

  • Sync to do items with an IMAP Gmail Account

    Hi guys,
In Mail.app, I have the To Do icon on the left, and underneath it are two folders "On My Mac" and the other named for my IMAP Gmail account. Whenever I create tasks in iCal, they sync with Mail.app, but they all show up in the "On My Mac" folder, and the Gmail To Do folder remains empty.
I'd like to sync all my To Do items with Gmail so I can access them on the iPhone. How can I go about making the To Do items I create in iCal appear in the Gmail To Do folder in Mail.app instead of (or in addition to) the On My Mac folder so they can sync through IMAP?
Hope that makes sense. Help is much appreciated!

This must be one of the most frequent major sources of frustration for iPhone users (are you listening our otherwise beloved Apple ?!). I am otherwise simply thrilled with my iPhone 3G; it is incredible that Apple thought that adults who run their lives on Outlook / Entourage could "make do" with a tasks workaround on their iPhone.
I am in process of trying a new solution highly recommended by several colleagues "Omnifocus" -- not a workaround but a very well-designed and seemingly highly user-friendly task management system which works on Desktop as well as iPhone and syncs via MobileMe. I'm still early into it but so far so good and my very Mac-savvy colleagues all rave; also has won lots of awards (Macworld magazine etc.) It's pricey but might be well worth it. http://www.omnigroup.com/

Help me please..I lost all my contacts when i sync. it with google contacts ..they completely gone from iphone and my gmail account ..how can i get them back? please help

Its a easy fix,it will take too much time to type out all of the steps,
Check your email account. see if they are their, You can then import them on your DAV card, The best thing to is add them to icoud then they will be safe.
Apple support can talk you through it.

Maybe the mail server is down.

  • I receive email from a yahoo account and a gmail account. thunderbird always shows a notice when yahoo mail arrives but never for gmail

I receive email from a yahoo account and a gmail account. thunderbird always shows a notice when yahoo mail arrives but never for gmail and the settings are the same help! TIA

well turn it off and see if that makes a change. After all IDLE is a server technology. If Google supports it and Yahoo does not then configuring Thunderbird the same means nothing. (I have no idea if Yahoo support it or not)

  • Gmail and IMAP mail accounts no longer work in the mail app since iOS 6

I'm getting the User information or password is incorrect message.  Or it takes 10+ minutes to send a message.  It will no longer allow me to sync with my IMAP mail account from work.  Everything worked correctly, then iOS 6 is released and it's hosed.  I've looked online elsewhere and a few people from google are aware of the problem and are trying different things.  I tried enabling two-step id with google and providing an app-specific password to no avail.
Highly frustrated in this, and also in the fact that there are no useful workarounds.  Anyone have any thoughts?

Hi, just update your extensions ( "Change quote and reply format 0.8.1" has to be installed an to be active) by using the updating-function for extensions integrated in Thunderbird.
Or - if the extension is removed - install the latest version from the devellopers website: https://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/changequote-en.html

  • TS3899 My iPhone is not fully synchronized with my hotmail and my gmail accounts. How can I fix that?

I can receive and read mails from my hotmail and gmail accounts, but if I answer them from my iphone, they don't appear on my hotmail or gmail pages.

It sounds as if you may be using POP rather than IMAP. POP email accounts do not stay in sync across devices. IMAP accounts do.
For Gmail, log into your Gmail account on your computer, go to Settings>Forwarding and POP/IMAP. Make sure that you have IMAP enabled. You'll need to check with Hotmail to see what the similar settings would be.

  • Need help troubleshooting imap/gmail account

For reasons not worth getting into I changed my port setting from 25 to 587 (I think) to 25 again. Ever since, I can't get mail to sync with my gmail account.
I have the right account name (gmail address), the right server (imap.gmail.com), the right password, the right server (smtp.gmail.com). I have it set to port 25.
I have turned off (and on) SSL, and checked (and unchecked) "use only this server."
I have not typed in an "Imap path prefix," but don't think I ever did. Any thoughts?

I believe I switched it to 587--whatever number Verizon advised. they they told me that imap accounts were not affected by the 25 ban, so I switched back to 25.
I've fixed the problem however, by deleting the account and starting over, resetting all the accounts online with google and then starting from scratch w/Mail. (Port is now 995.) Thanks for the help.

  • 2 iphones, 1 mac and 1 gmail account

My wife and I both have iphones and we also have an iMac. We have 1 "family" gmail account. I like the use of Gmail IMAP and how it "syncs" the emails on all the devices. But I would like to turn this option off? What happens is when my wife marks an email as read I don't end up seeing that message, and vice-versa.
What can I do? Is there a way to turn off the syncing? can I access gmail with POP?

You can't turn syncing off for server stored mailboxes with an IMAP account. If your wife reads an email with her iPhone, the message will be marked as read when checking the account's Inbox mailbox with your iPhone, and vice-versa.
Accessing an account as a POP account with one email client and as an IMAP account with another email client may work, but can also lead to potential problems.
Why not get your own Gmail account and have separate accounts?

  • Help with imap gmail account via mac mail

What are the best settings for gmail as imap in mac mail?
I have my gmail account set up with mac Mail as an IMAP account.
I notice that in the last few weeks?? not sure how long, my mac mail is taking forever to load.  I opened the activity window and it seems like there are so many things happening.  I did find an old account that was still had some activity and while I had delteed it, I did need to do a few more steps to get it out of the process.
Now, as it still seems to take forever for my inbox to fully load, I began looking into the settings.
I am not able to change the settings for trash and I think saving the deleted messages to the server could be a waste of time.  This is the advanced setttings page
the trash is 'grayed out' and won't allow me to uncheck the 'store deleted messages on the server'.  Anyone know how to change this?
Also, I want to uncheck 'store sent messages on the server' as I think that will save a LOT of process activity, but gmail's directions for imap accounts says to leave it checked.  Not sure why, any thoughts?
    Michelle

I'm not familiar with CalbeOne, but you can follow the instructions they provided at their site:
    http://help.cableone.net/HSD/mycableone/migrate/default.aspx
You might also want to make sure you followed their transfer instructions.
Build your accounts in Mail as per the POP or IMAP settings provided. When adding accounts to Mail, when you get to the first screen, you can hold the option key down when you hit continue for more options on the Mail configurations rather than the standard defaults.
If you are viewing these accounts at the gmail website, then you might need to do some configuration there also. I'm not sure on how much they are integrated with gmail.

  • Still can't create my IMAP GMAIL account on new 3G iPhone

I've read a lot of the posts on this issue and have tried to follow the steps provided by GMAIL on the settings tab, but to no avail. I've also already tried the "Captcha Unlock" (which I don't understand, but oh well), but no good. The GMAIL account settings for my 3G iPhone are identical to my 2G iPhone's settings, but I can't get it to work. I always end up with "unable to connect to the IMAP server". Anyone else having this persistent problem? Thanks.

I think I might have figured out my own problem, although it only raised a new question. Turns out that my password for Gmail (which was complex) included spaces, which I'm now thinking might not be recognized all that well by the iPhone keyboard in 2.0.2. Sure enough, when I changed my Gmail password to something WITHOUT spaces, and then entered that information into the mail account settings, all went smoothly. The new question, of course, is why doesn't the old password with spaces work with the 3G iPhone when it worked just fine on the 1Gen iPhone? Things are fine now, but the curiosity has gotten the better of me, and I'm curious if anyone else might have some insight into this. Thanks.

  • How to stop Mail to automatically setup IMAP Gmail account

I am trying to add a Gmail account to my wifes computer but we only want to use POP. However, everytime I try to set it up, it automatically sets it up for IMAP instead which we dont want. I dont know how to change it properly to get it working to POP.
Can anyone suggest how to set it up with POP?
(FYI: Im fully aware of the differences between POP and IMAP and happy with my decision to have hers just on POP).

Fill out the first window of data, but instead of clicking on Create, hold down the Option key until the Create button changes to Continue. Then click on Continue and proceed to set up as POP.

  • IMAP Gmail account won't work properly

Today my gmail account (which I have been using for about 4 years with os x mail) has just been spinning as though its retreiving mail for hours and hours.
I opened the activity window in mail to see what was going on and its just "fetching new mail: updating offline disk cache", "syncing trash" and "copying messages"... along with "syncing with server" and "communicating with server".
I have no idea what its doing.
Meanwhile I've received emails (which I checked on gmails site) but they havent come into osx mail.
Please help because I don't have unlimited internet and its already used 2.5gb to do this and its still going.
    Please help
    Thanks

That image you posted Dave8 is almost identical to what is happening to me.
I've tried all the fixes and nothing has changed. Still churning away seemingly doing nothing while I waste my months internet usage.
Something similar has happening to another account within mail.app 4.2 where my Yahoo POP account has just stopped receiving anything... I can still send though on yahoo.
This probably is a completely different issue but it seems a coincidence that both have happened within a few days of each other.
    Very bizarre.
I have posted about the yahoo issue today too but no-one has got back to me yet.
ps I have another 2 accounts in mail which are still working fine
The issue with the gmail account happened after I attched a bunch of photos and sent them... but one of the emails had too many photos and my computer ran out of batteries after.
Since then its been doing weird things.
Anyway, I don't want to use a 3rd party client.
    Please help
    Thanks

  • N8 and imaps email account

    Hi all.
I have an N8, and I'm trying to configure an imaps email account.
My organization use the imap ssl with a self created certificate for sign the connection. The problem is that in N8 there is no way to say to nokia push servers to use that certificate, and thus during the account creation the configuration fail saying to check the servers name.
Is there any way to have the push mail working?

    there is a messaging forum
    /t5/Messaging-Email-and-Browsing/bd-p/messaging
so the messaging super geeks might be in there
i know what you mean. i have a self signed certificate on my server and can't use NM with this either. fortunately i just drop mine down to regular imap and it's all fine (save the huge problems with NM, and push over imap) i guess you can't do that.
the other option would be to decline the terms of service as you finish setting up the account., this causes the phone to switch back to a regular email client that connects directly with the mail servers rather than via NM.
there is no push option. but email can be set to retrieve on notify. notify being when it is indicated over an imap idle connection. or you can just set it to retrieve every 5 minutes.
you are still going to have certificate issues. but they may be manageable.
There's no dignity in begging for kudos. Do it for the karma.
