MuVo² 4.0 GB --vs-- MuVo² FM 5.0 G

plz tell me your opinions about this matchup? which one should i go for?
The prices here in turkey is..
MuVo? 4.0 GB (90$) --------MuVo? FM 5.0 GB (256$)
which one?

If you prefer having a builtin FM radio, microphone and the addition of GB differences then go for the MuVo? FM 5GB. Additionally, if you choose the MuVo? 4GB player, you can get the FM wired remote to go along with the player to provide FM radio and microphone features too.

ok, this is making me nuts. i'm trying to upgrade the firmware for my muvo n200 and i've followed the instructions below to the T. everything works fine, until i get to #8. i run the firmware update program and i get an error message, put your player in recovery mode before upgrading firmware, and it will not let me proceede. what am i doing wrong?
<A href="]Zen Nano Plus, Zen Nano, MuVo N200, V200, MuVo TX FM, MuVo TX, MuVo NX, and the original MuVo players<IMG height=0 src="http://dmzweb4.europe.creative.com/wwimages/style/arrow.GIF" width= border=0>
Unplug the player from a computer if it is plugged</LI>
Install the latest driver if you have not done so. If you have a Creative MuVo, MuVo USB2.0, MuVo TX FM, MuVo N200, MuVo V200, Zen Nano, Zen Neeon or Zen Nano Plus player, you can download the file <A href="]MStorage_PCDRV_LB__07_00_250.exe.</LI>
Remove the battery from the player (except <B>Zen Neeon</B> which has a built-in battery).</LI>
Press and hold the <B>Play</B> button while connecting the player to the USB port.</LI>
Continue to hold the <B>Play </B>button for about 0 seconds after connecting your player is connected to the USB port.</LI>
When the <B>Find New Hardware</B> dialog box appears on your PC screen, release the <B>Play</B> button.</LI>
If this is the first time a player is installed as Player Recovery Device, Windows will find a Player Recovery Device (or USB Device), and prompt you for drivers. Click on No, and select "Do not search. I will choose the driver to install". Windows will install the drivers automatically.</LI>
Once it is installed, you can then update the player's firmware.</LI>

None of this works. I first tried downloading the firmware update. When I tried to install it, the add new hardware box wouldn't look for it. It insisted on looking for some *.sys file. I saw something about a file called MStorage_PCDRV_LB__07_00_250.exe. As usual, there is no explanation anywhere about what it does or how it relates to the player or the firmware update.
Anyway, I tried installing it and then tried installing the firmware. It still doesn't work. The firmware can't find the player and I get an error message that says "media state not initialized" or something like that. I checked the device manager does show player recover and not Muvo N200.

• MuVo - When new track begins I cannot rewind back into the end of the previous tra

Hi all, here is my problem. i tried to put it in a formal way to ease the reading.
Player: Creative MuVo 52MB TX FMFirmware: Creative MuVo TX FM Audible Firmware Upgrade Version .3.03
Problem: When new track begins I cannot rewind back into the end of the previous track. If I want to hear the end of a track I have to start from the beginning and fast <SPAN>froward through the tracks entirety towards the end of the track. This is especially frustrating when listening to a 20+ minute podcast or audiobook and all I want is to here the last couple of minutes. As stated in the user manual "frequent use of fast <SPAN>froward/reverse" will use more battery power and this is not an acceptable solution for wanting to hear the last couple of minutes. (Usually this happens when i am interrupted and the next track has already started, etc.)
Suggested solution: If a user is at 00:00:00 and the user holds the rewind button then user shall start rewinding from then end of the last track. An analogy of this would be if you fast <SPAN>froward to a new chapter on a DVD player and then press and hold rewind, it allows you to rewind through the end of the skipped chapter. Please include this functionality in the next firmware update.
thanks for your time, nickc

Nick,
Great suggestion. FYI, I have similar hardware to yours:
Player: Creative MuVo 256MB TX FMFirmware: Creative MuVo TX FM Audible Firmware Upgrade Version .3.03
I imagine there are several ways to implement your idea. One way would be to have the firmware let you: () begin rewinding from any point in the current program; (2) when rewind reaches the 00:00:00, a tone could be emitted (this would alert the user that s/he has reached the beginning of the current program); (3) then the user could either decide to stop there or (4) by holding down the rewind, say, 2-3 seconds, the rewind would be forced to 'skip' back to the end of the previous program.
If the user is not listening to the program while rewinding (and thus cannot hear the tone), this should not be a problem, as the display would make clear what is happening.
On another issue...
Regarding your comment "...creative does a good job with the timing of the fast-foward/rewind feature available now," I beg to differ. In my experience, the timing of the TX FM's rewind makes it very difficult for a user to do an 'instant replay' of a short audiobook section. This is frequently needed when a narrator's voice is unclear, or the user is distracted by something.
For example, say I want to review the last 5 seconds. This is impossible, as the rewind specifications cause the rewind to behave approximately as follows:
- First 3 seconds realtime rewinds program 6-7 seconds
- After that, each second realtime rewinds 30 seconds; so each additional second rewinds 30 seconds
- Of course, it gets faster and faster thereafter (in 30-second, 5-minute, and 5-minute segments)
You see, therefore, that it is impossible to efficiently skip back 5 seconds, as the rewind goes back 6-7 seconds, then skips all the way back to the 37-second point. The only way to go back 5 seconds (a couple of sentences) is to: () overshoot your target by an unknown number of seconds, then wait a long time until your desired segment appears, or (2) tediously rewind 5-6 seconds; wait until the TX FM is ready for another rewind; rewind another 5-6 second segment; wait again; then rewind another short segment to get to the 5-seconds-back point. For the most part I use method (2), but do not always release the rewind button in time each of 3 times before the accelerated rewind kicks in. What a drag!
The Audible Otis player, as I recall, did not have this particular problem, though its buttons were harder to manipulate.
I would doubt whoever designed this rewind specification has experience listening to audiobooks.
CREATIVE: We need a rewind function that eventually picks up speed, but I would recommend that the most recently played approx. 30 seconds of program time be accessible via a rewind compressed to appox. 5 seconds realtime.
Catherina & Jeremy, are you listening?

• Broken 256 Muvo tx

Arrrgggg.......Jsut when I wanted to use it too.
If you own one you know how it splits apart so you can plug it into your computer. Well it seems the USB connecter is the problem. Ive only split it apart a couple of times too add songs, so Its a factory defect which sucks becasue I needed it this weekend. I guess It has to go in for warrenty, Lucky Ive only owned it since christmas. Its my favorite MP3 player so I dont want to give up on it. Ive had an Ipod literally explode on me, and a Iri'ver with a defecti've battery, So far this one has been the best sounding, best quality and best price with enough room for all of my favorite songs.

The flash players are all very easy to use, we have a few different ones, it's best to look at the product pages to see which you prefer. In roughly the same pricerange as the TX 256, we also have the MuVo TX FM 256, the MuVo Micro 256MB, or if you want to spend a little more (and have more storage), there are larger capacity versions of each of the above, and the Zen Nano (52MB or GB), Zen Nano Plus (52MB or GB), MuVo Sport C00 256MB and MuVo Slim (256MB or 52MB).

• MuVo-TX-SE and Win98SE: driv

Hi,
I'm planning to buy MuVo-TX-SE, and as I have Win98SE as OS, I need a driver. But I cannot find a driver for MuVo-TX-SE, only for MuVo-TX. At Creative's web page the Minimum System Requirements for MuVo-TX-SE is Win98SE. So can I use the driver of MuVo-TX even for the SE model?
PS. In the product box of MuVo-TX-SE they don't list Win98SE as compliant, but is it only because there is no driver CD included in the sales package?
Regards,
petri

Hmmm, as far as I know the SE is just a repackaged version of the MuVo TX, so it should work.

• Muvo TX SE Firmw

Hello,
Why aren't there updated firmwares for Muvo TX/TX SE (The latest is .0 5feb2005...) whereas Muvo TX FM's firmwares are often updated ?
It's the same player with/without the radio function, so why updating Muvo TX FM and not Muvo TX ? That shouldn't be difficult to make firmware for these players from the MuvoTXFM firmware...Message Edited by St4rLa on -7-2005 04:4 PM

• MuVo: Two-Tier Director

Hi, i'm sure this is something that's been asked a million times before, but I'm a little confused about the Firmware upgrade i just did.
It mentioned that the Firmware update;
"Improves track organization and playback with two-tier directory structure."
How does this work... I'd be grateful if someone would enlighten a novice , many thanks

I was trying to help, and you misread my answer. Using folders to store albums in *is* simply a really great way to organise them, I was trying to be helpful!
As I already said most MuVos do work with folders, and it is documented in the manual for *these* players. I assumed this was the case with the original MuVo (we also have the MuVo NX, MuVo TX, MuVo TX FM, MuVo USB 2.0, MuVo Slim, MuVo Micro N200, MuVo Sport C00, MuVo V200, MuVo? and MuVo? FM, so perhaps you can see it isn't quite that clear cut). I'm sorry that I couldn't fully answer your other questions, but that's no cause to be nasty to someone as any sensible person I'm sure would agree with.
I don't own many of the products that Creative sell, but I have helped and solved a lot of questions. Take a minute or two to actually look back over some of the posts I've made, and what others have said about my answers before you jump to your conclusions.

• Why muvo v100 slower than t

I have both a G muvo v00 and a 256M muvo txfm that I copy the same mp3 files to each day from the same computer. I notice that the time it takes to copy the same file is almost 4 times longer with the v00. Is that normal? If not, what could be wrong?
Greg

The Muvo V00 does have a slower transfer speed; you're not alone
Hopefully it will be fixed, but there has been no confirmation.

• Belt clip for MuVo V

Hi guys...
I ordered my MuVo V200 and it came only with a neck cord.
It's really annoying to run with this thing bouncing around so I really wish for a clip-case
or an armband.
The package contents clearly say it should be there: (Included for Europe)
http://www.creative.com/products/pro...uct=0732&nav=5
I thought well maybe it's just the shop, so I checked numerous stores in Slovenia,
France, Germany, Italy, UK, even the US and they only had the package with a neck cord.
I said OK, I'll go and buy the **bleep** thing - but it's not that simple! It's nowhere to be found,
I've checked with the exclusi've distributor of Creative for Slovenia, dozens of stores
throughout Europe - for nothing. They got it for Zen Micro, MuVo TX and some other MuVos,
but not for V200.
The thing is, it's right there on they're web page:
http://www.creative.com/products/pro...uct=3886&nav=2
but i can't seem to get it anywhere!
Any ideas where could I obtain this thing in Europe?
Thanx for your help!

Daniel, why doesn't Creative standardize the package contents on a worldwide basis? In addition to some confusion and some unhappy customers, having different package contents for different areas must enormously complicate Creative's inventory management and increase the per unit cost. I could envision situations where a product is backordered for one region, but there is plenty(or perhaps excess) inventory of it with package contents for another region in Creative's warehouses. Creative should also try to eliminate products that are too close in price and too similar to other products. For example, I don't see a need for the Nano unless it can be priced at least $30 less at retail than a Nano Plus with the same capacity. Creative needs to streamline its product offerings and have a much smaller number of SKUs.

• MuVo does not show up in "My Comput

I have an Emachines 2.92 ghz system with 024 ram running Windows XP and I <EM>do</EM> have Adminstrati've rights. I installed the software on my computer as instructed. When I rebooted and then attached the Muvo txfm to my usb port. The Muvo screen shows the moving USB icon as pictured in the instruction manual but it was NOT recognized in "My Computer".
There was something under "Control Panel" called Muvo system folder I think and when I clicked that, it said there was no dri've connected and that I should connect the dri've to the USB port. But it already was connected. I tried another USB port but the system would not recognize it from there either. It is listed in Device manager under dri'ves and there is <EM>no</EM> question mark or exclaimation mark there or anywhere in Device Mgr. but when I select the dri've to go into "Properties" the computer freezes for about 20 seconds. Then properties opens up and it says "there is no problem with this device." A window came up in my taskbar saying there was a problem with hardware installation so the device may not work properly. I disconnected all usb devices and connected the Muvo again but it doesn't show up. Then I rebooted, attached the device again but still the same problem. Then I unistalled the software and attached the device to the USB port and a window came up saying the hardware was installed and the device was now ready for use but it still is not in "MY Computer" so I am unable to access the device to do anything with it. It <EM>is</EM> in Device Mgr as "disk dri've" now. Then I deleted the device from Device Mgr and rebooted. I installed the driver update called "MStorage_PCDRV_LB__07_00_250.exe" from your website and then plugged the Muvo into the USB port again and it showed up there as Muvo TXFM but still not in My Computer listing.
I tried to install the Firmware update from your website called: "MuVoTXFM_PCFW_LF__9_0.exe" but because the Muvo doesn't show up in "MY computer" it is unable to find the device and it just hangs as it looks for the device.
OK, now I'm thinking the Muvo is a defecti've player so I plugged it into my 998 Dell computer running Windows Me. with no software installation at all and it showed up in "My Computer" in a matter of seconds. I even put a song on it from the Dell computer. So wassup?
Thanks for your help
P.S. I also did these two registry fixes allowing permissions on both (but they were already set to that anyhow) so it did not fix it:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\U SB
And also I downloaded and installed the three microsoft fixes I found on one of the many posts I read on this forum for media player and something else. I cant remember what, I am just so exhausted!

Connect your player and find its entry in Device Manager. Click on Remove then disconnect player. Also select Show Hidden Devices and remove any extra entries for your player.
Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and remove the MuVo drivers, Mediasource and Media Explorer software.
Reboot PC and then re-connect player - it should be detected immediately by XP.
Another thing it might be is if you are using a front-mounted USB port on your PC - these don't always supply enough current. They allow the player to be seen but not enough to actually do anything with it.
If you choose View Devices by Connection in Device Manager with the player connected and drill down to find the entry for your player, you can look at the properties for the controller and hub that it is connected to. One of these shows the current equired and the current available.

• Having a Problem with WMA DRM and Muvo TX FM - Upd

No elapsed time problem with WMA DRM or other protected files from:
Napster
WalMart
Audible.com.
Elapsed time problem with WMA DRM from:
Netlibrary.com
This is an update on the problem that I described below:
Windows Media Player
One problem I had was that Windows Media Player would not recognize my muvo players. It turned out that because I was using a USB hub for the players to connect WMP was not recognizing the players. When I used a direct line to the USB port on the computer, WMP has no problem recognizing the player.
Digital License.
As a test, I bought a WMA song file from WalMart to see if its Digital Rights Management was compatible with Muvo. There was no problem with the correct elapsed time showing. I will also test a file from Napster and add its license details here.
Here is something else I noticed - the differences in
the license for the two types of WMA files:
The one from WalMart - which works fine with the
elapsed time on the MuVo:
This file can be played an unlimited number of times
Collaborati've play for this file is not allowed
This file can be burned 0 more times<<<
This file can be synchronized an unlimited number of
times
The license for this file can be backed up <<<
For the one from netlibrary.com
This file can be played until 4/9/2005
Collaborati've play for this file is not allowed
This file cannot be burned
This file can be synchronized 3 more times until
4/9/2005
The license for this file cannot be backed up<<<<
I have been able to copy WMA with DRM audiobook files to my TX FM, but the elapsed time doesn't change with either play or fast forward. The file is from Netlibrary.com which supplies audiobooks to public libraries. The file plays, but the display stays all zeroes.
I have been sending information and getting replies and suggestions from both Netlibrary support and Creative technical support with no solution. I have the latest firmware and everything else. I have the problem on both Windows XP and Windows 2000 computers. I have downloaded several files, but none of them show elapsed time. I suspect it is something to do with the DRM, because I can play a preview file from Netlibrary - without DRM - with no problem. I also have no problem with other files copied over - from Audible, from CDs, etc.Message Edited by alex20850 on 03-30-2005 07:54 PMMessage Edited by alex20850 on 03-30-2005 08:4 PM

I'm primarily using my TX FM for netlibrary.com audiobooks and also get all zeros on the display.
I've been steadily complaining to netlibrary and my local library about problems/inconveniences, itcertainly is experiencing growing pains; we're the ones getting the pain, though!
I'll post here if I find a (legal) resolution to this.
What firmware version do you have? I have .2.04 and I see that .3.03 is available for download. I've read here that there are problems with .3 with volume limiting and I'm hesitant to change. I do notice that one of the listed fixes is:
Updates the elapsed time displayed during navigation within a long recorded track
so, maybe this is the answer?
