Muvo N200 freezing & sounds prob

I've had the Muvo N200 for three weeks now without a problem until the past three days. At first, when I'd turn it off, the screen would freeze and there would be an annoying sound that wouldn't stop. The problem would be temporarily solved when I removed and re-inserted battery or inserted a new one. The player turns on fine, but the same thing would happen again if I tried to turn it off again. But after a while, the thing would freeze and the sound would come back when I try to go to the menu or turn it off. When I turn it on, the player starts playing a random song at a random volume number.

Did you install the new firmware?

I made the mistake of connecting the Muvo to my computer before
installing the software. Not a good idea. Even after installing
the software the device manager keeps on indentifying the Muvo
as an "Unknown device". I then tried installing it on my wife's
computer in the proper order and the Muvo was recognized properly.
But I want to install it on my computer. Unfortunately all my
system restore points were overwritten by my many install attempts,
so now I am sunk. I've got to figure out how to fix the damage
manually. Even removing the device using the device manager,
uninstalling the software, reinstalling in the proper order,
and finally connecting the MP3 player doesn't work. When I plug
in the MP3 player itstill recognizes it only as an unknwown
    device.

It did work on other computers, so as you pointed out, it was
clear the problem was not with the Muvo N200. I tried updating
the BIOS and all the MotherBoard related drivers. Then I removed
all USB stuff via the Device Manager and let XP put it all back.
... Plugged the muvo back in ...
Drat. It just says "Unknown Device" and does not show another
    disk dri've.
    > and you could try creating another user account ...
    Tried that too. Same problem
    > Try using other available USB port ...
The four main USB ports on the MBD back panel were all
in use so I had been using one of the four USB ports on
a PCI add-in card I installed to give me more ports.
I tried switching to the USB ports on the front of the
computer (which are cabled to an aux USB connector on
the motherboard). Same deal - unknown device. (This is
    getting old).
Finally I tried unplugging my digital camera base unit
from on the the four main USB ports on the MBD back panel
and I plugged my Muvo N200 into that. Instant Recognition!!!
A new disk dri've appears, and it even knows that it is a
Create Muvo. So then I plugged my digital camera base unit
into the USB add-in card and it works just fine too. (It
also shows up as a disk dri've).
So now all is well except for my fragile understanding.
Here I thought all USB ports were created equal (well except
for the ver verses ver 2 thing). But clearly on my computer
they are not. Perhaps there is someting wrong with my MBD
or its setup that causes this.
Anyway, thanks for all your suggestions, especially since
I don't think I would have figured it out on my own.

  • MuVO N200 512M: sound 'drop out' prob

    Hi
I recently acquired 52M N200 MuVO. After trasnferring a few CDs and playing them back I noticed that on certain tracks there would be a brief 'drop'. This appears to happen intermittently but often enough to be annoying. I've tried recopying the music to the player but this makes no difference: the 'drops' would just occur somehwere else. I've used MS Media Player to copy the CDs on P4, Windows XP system.
When I play back the tracks straight straight from the Media Library there are no drops at all. I have turned off anti-virus software and other background tasks and tried the whole process again but with no success. Surely you shouldn't have to do this to copy CDs?
I'm currently trying to resolve this with Creative tech. support but I thought I'd post it here just in cas anyone in the community has come across this and has any ideas as to how to cure the problem.
Any help gratefully received - ta!Message Edited by istari on 03-2-2005 03:52 AM

    HEY [url="http://forums.americas.creative.com/creativelabs/view_profile?user.id=7862" target=top>brotubutter[/url]
The BEST evidence I've seen on this problem. If I could meet the "QA manager" responsible for this "firmware", I'd break his leg off and beat him with it. Then I'd hire you - and put YOU in his place. These boneheads don't get it - release something inferior and the sharp people out there will find it.
Skimp on the QA and you'll get shishka-bobbed...
Want me to buy and I-POD ? Keep releasing crappy half-baked firmware and it won't take long.Let me add a "new" feature of the latest ..0 firmware (on an N200 52MB unit):After running it for about 4 days, I attempt to power the unit on - I see the Creative logo, then the N200 logo an then; nothing; kaput; it shuts down.So , let me guess, should I try "reloading the firmware ?" sheesh...

i just upgraded my firmware successfully from default to version .9.0... after that, i noticed the sound become too loud even at volume #... it also lost the crispness of the sound (radio and music files)...
i also read that there's no way to revert to the default version... does creative have solution on this?

Why you upgraded the firmware ?
you can't go back now. If you have read the messages here in the forums
you have seen why its very bad to upgrade, for no reson.

If it's recognised on the PC, try formatting it first and then try updating the firmware again. If you can try the player on another PC, try updating the firmware there to see if it works.
Otherwise it would be best to contact Customer Support for assistance, the player could be faulty.

  • MuVo TX FM radio prob

    Hi!
I have a muvo tx fm (256mb) player which was bought in France.
For a while the fm radio worked just fine. Then the player started to freeze if I try to tune to any station.
Out of approximately 0 attempts I can get the radio work only once. But even if it turns on I still can't tune to any frequency, the player just freezes again.
The only thing I can do after it freezes is to disconnect it from the battery and reconnect again.
I have the firmware version .00.04.
I tried the latest firmware .3.03 but with it the player stops responding right after I switch the radio on. So i downgraded back to the original firmware.
Anyway i still can't get the radio working.
    thnx and regards,

  • Muvo N200 FM Radio - no stereo so

    I have a Muvo N200 52GB with latest firmware (.2.0).
The only problem I have with it is that the FM Radio sound output is mono even if the display indicates stereo reception.
I can achieve stereo sound if I pull out the headphone jack a little way but the connection is not secure if I do this and I don't have to do this to listen to WMA/MP3 music.
This could be down to firmware but I have only seen one other post with this problem.
I will try to reflash just in case but would appreciate any other suggestions.
In my opinion, even if FM reception is mono, sound output should still be directed to both right and left channels and not just one (left channel in my case).

Obviously the player is faulty as even if it's in mono you will get output from both channel. You can try reinstalling the firmware on the player and see if that helps just in case. If not, you should return to creative and get it repair.

  • N200 f/w prob

    Hi,
I've just bought the GB MuVo Micro N200 in January 2005. It has been working properly with a few glitches (eg. it sometimes won't play some files and freezes). I've noticed the .5 and .6 firmware, so I tried to install them to see if they solve any problems.
I followed the instructions to install the "Player Recovery Device" or something like that.
    Q) What does this do? I don't seem to be able to access any menu or options that allows me to tune or otherwise manage the N200.
After installing the driver, I tried both .5 and .6, which both doesn't work.
With .6: After installing and formatting the data area, I've put some WMA files into the device, the same files from before the firmware update. What I've got when I disconnect and turn on the device is: Creative screen, N200 screen, Hourglass screen asking me to wait, unit turns off.
After a few more attempts to re-load the firmware, I still have the same problems. So I tried .5, which should be the same except for Thai support (which I don't need).
With .5: After installing and formatting, again I put the same WMA files that worked before. This time, when I turn on the device: Creative screen, N200 screen, then shuts off. Again, I've tired to reload the firmware a couple of times with the same results. I've noticed that with NO files in the device, it seems to operate properly, just telling me "No Music", but I was able to go to the menu and tune the volume, etc.
Also, I've noticed that I do no need to follow the Recovery procedure to install the firmware (holding the play button, etc). Anyway I've followed the proper procedure when updating firmware just in case.
I'm really reluctant to have to send the device in and pay for repairs. I really hope it's just the firmware because it was working right before the update.
Thanks for your help in advance.

Thank you again for your quick reply.
-Yes I've been using Win Explorer to drag and drop my WMA files and that worked before my f/w update.
-I ripped my own WMA files with Win. Media Player 0 @ 92kps with "Copy protect music" unchecked.
-I have just tried to use the WMP0's Sync function to copy the files instead. I noticed an xml file being copied. However, when I try to play the songs, the same problem is still there.
-I would try with Media Source or the MuVo N200 Media Explorer, but my paths/filenames/songnames are a mix of Chinese, English and Japanese, and Creative software doesn't recognize them (can't access the file from Media Explorer). If I change my regional settings, I can only choose one language at a time + english. (Also interestingly, the MuVo correctly displays all these lanugages in the LCD but doesn't work with PC software)
Is there anywhere I can find a previous version of firmware, other than .6 and .5?
    Thank you again.

  • MuVo N200 Ease of U

I am considering the purchase of either the MuVo N200 or TX FM (52MB). I have a portable CD player I use at the gym but have never used a flash memory player.
. How easy is it to switch between stored music and the preset FM tuner?
    2. Can toggling between encoded music and FM be done while on a treadmill?
    3. Compare the sound quality of MP3 music (28kbs), FM tuner, and portable CD player?
Any insight you have would be helpfull.

i like all of the muvos, because they are so simple. Before you work out, just go into music mode then into FM mode. After that, all you need to do is press the toggle wheel in twice (you don't even need to look at the screen).
That might not be the exact procedure, but it's something like that

  • MuVo N200 problem with playba

I have an older MuVo N200. I have transferred some of my class notes to it and it had done just fine so I transferred some musice to it as well. It played back very well for about 2 days and now it is just a high pitch squelling:angry:. I have lost some of the songs that my daughter has sung because it has garbled and destroyed them ? Any way I would just like to know what is going on. I have deleted the music and?transferred it again and it works just like it is supposed to and the play back will be fine the first time around then... sounds that remind me of really, really bad radio station static. Any ideas? Help is appreciated.

I suggest reloading the firmware. This will also reformat the player, so everything stored on the player will be lost. Make sure you have copies on your pc first. Search the forum for detailed instructions about how to reload the firmware.

  • Muvo N200 - Car Ste

I have a muvo n200 and am wondering the options, if any, to listen to my mp3s through my car stereo. What will i need, where can i buy it, how much will it cost? Any and all help is appreciated!
Thanks in advanceMessage Edited by HBNelson on 05-08-2005 04:3 PM

If there is an input jack, a cable might only be around $8. A cassette adapter is probably around $5-20. An FM transmitter might be $30 and up. In terms of sound quality the cable is best, then the cassette adapter, then an FM transmitter.Message Edited by JK23 on 05-08-2005 08:40 PM

  • Muvo n200- exchange it or jack

I bought a muvo n200 three weeks ago. It was working great until a week ago. I was listening to a track, it started to distort a bit here and there, and then it stopped in a loop of distortion.
I replaced the battery a few times with similar results. The track would proceed for a minute and a half with occasional distortion before freezing altogether. Additionally, the track count time was wrong. It would count ,2,3,4,5,6(fast), <skip 7>, 8(slow), 9,0,,2,3(fast). The specific numbers would change, but the pattern is basically the same.
I removed all the tracks and placed a single album back on with the same result.
I installed the muvo n200 drivers from the CD (previously just used windowsXP explorer to transfer tracks) and formatted the player (fat32), placed an album back on and had the same result.
After emailing support, I installed the latest drivers (MuVoN200_PCFW_LB__2_0). Now, the tracks seem to play and there is no freezing, but the track counter problem persists. A 2:33 track shows as 4:6.
Thank you for making it this far. Is there something else I can do to fix this? If I take this back to Fry's, should I exchange it for another n200 or just get a different type of player altogether? I like the concept of the n200 (no moving parts, inline radio), but I keep reading more horror stories on these forums.
    Thanks...

Little bit strange, I'd get it exchanged for another one because the N200 is an excellent little unit and very high quality. If you have problems again (very very unlikely), you may want to see if you can get something else.
If you do have the same problems again, it could be that your MP3 or WMA files are corrupted? Have you tried re-ripping your music from CD?Message Edited by scorpian007 on 07--2005 02:42 AM
