Muvo N200 not recognized by MediaSou

I have a Muvo N200. I downloaded the latest media source software. At first it would not install because it could not find a creative player attached (even though it was). After much troubleshooting I discovered that the creative install program did not play nice if I had other USB devices attached (I have an external hard disk, external DVD burner and a card reader). Once I turned all the other USB devices off then it installed fine. However now that MediaSource is installed it tells me that I have no creative player attached. The player shows up as dri've F in windows and I can read and write to it fine. It also shows up in my old MediaSource software (shows up as Muvo). I have not updated the firmware for this player as I am some reluctant to take the risk that the player will stop working. I see lots of people have problems with firmware upgrades.
Is there something I can do to get MediaSource to see my Muvo N200 player?Any help would be appreciated.

I got my problem fixed. It turns out I also needed the appropriate plugin as well. I sort of assumed it would be all one package but trolling through the forum I found reference to their being different plugins depending on what unit you have. Installing the right plug in fixed the issue.

hello
I got a big problem with my muvo N200. When I connect it through usb to pc it's not recognized.the picture which shows that player is connected to pc is not appearing. I can't upgrade the firmware and do anything with usb. I tried this on other pc's and different usb cables....where's the problem?

Try this:?http://forums.creative.com/creativel...ssage.id=23264?Read posts 3 and 4. Several N200 owners have gotten satisfaction from this, e.g.,?http://forums.creative.com/creativel...d=00348#M62247?I occasionally come back here to check on N200 failures, because Creative just won't put this in their FAQ, I guess they feel they have to see it work for themselves. Even the uber-posters won't acknowledge this fix discovered by AB84. Hope it works for you, as it has for several of us.

• Muvo N200 not working.. any ide

I have a Creative Muvo N200 for about a year now. Just recently it started having problems. Whenever I turn it on it shows the startup logo and then turns off immediately. I've tried deleting all the files on it and that worked for a little bit but then it went back to having this same problem. I tried putting it in recovery mode but I'm really not sure if I did this right because when I tried to download the firmware it, sometimes it said it couldn't detect the player and sometimes it said the player wasn't in recovery mode. Does anyone know of anything else I can do? Or can someone explain how exactly to put it in recovery mode? Maybe I'm doing that wrong, I don't know. Thanks for any ideas.

The full instructions for Recovery Mode are in the sticky thread. PBMessage Edited by PeeBee on -25-200604:50 PM

That is just the fix in the latest firmware - it does verything that the earlier firmwares did as well.
I would try version .2.0 first - it is not available on the Download page but you can still get it here.

• MuVo V100 not recogni

I am trying to download a book from the Library. First downloaded Windows Media and then Overdri've Media Console (library ware) ?and was prompted after book downloaded to transfer to Muvo. The device shows that it is working (little jiggles goes on the little screen) but my Laptop XP cannot find the device. I don't have another XP to test it on and when I go to website and test, same thing happens--no download. Any advice? Many thanks,

I have the same problem and tried your recommendation. When I open up "Disk Management" in Computer Management, I get "Connecting to Logical Disk Manager service,"? then, after a long time, "Still connecting, please wait...". These two cycle indefinately. When I pull the MuVo out of the USB port, it immediately solves the problem and I can see the remaining disks.
The MuVo freezes up a range of applciations and shutdown/reboot when connected. The problems always go away as soon as I pull it from the USB port. The MuVo appers in device manager under Disk Dri'ves and USB devices, but not Windows Portable Devices. It seems to appear in Windows Explorer, but clicking on it always results in a player not attached message...even though it obviously is connected. It is not recognized by either Windows Media Player nor the Creative media player. (By the way, it doesn't matter what USB port it is in. )?What do we try next?Tom

• Volume button on Muvo N200 not work

I have a MuVo N200 Gb. A week after getting it the volume button stopped working. Rather than adjusting the volume, the mp3 player crashes and turns itself off immediately. The player can subsequently be turned on, pause/play button works and toggle switch works, in addition to music playing as normal. However, as soon as the volume buttons are pressed the mp3 player crashes again.
Does anyone know how this can be fixed?
I have the latest firmware update, which is "MuVo N200, FW release .".

Thanks for the help.
I tried the new update and it solved the problem. Someone had posted a similar problem on this site; in their case the player crashed each time the radio option was selected on the player. There must be a bug in the software that is dri'ven by some kind of event.
The thing that concerns me the most is that when I used the "automatically check for new firmare" option on the creative site I was told I had the most up to date firmware, which clearly wasn't the case! Oh well...

• MuVo TX suddenly not recogni

Hello All I'm hoping someone here has an idea. I just tried by MuVo Tx Fm on my WindowsXP computer for the first time after loading the latest drivers. XP deli'vers a message saying the USB device has failed and is nto recognized. When I click on the message, it says no drivers are installed (when I insert my old MuVo CD, . I get a message saying a newer version of the driver is installed, and it terminates) I then plugged it into my Win98 comptuer (the one I've been using with it), and the players does not show up in device manager. The player IS working. I can listen to anything that's already loaded. When I plug it into either computer, I see the connection image on the player LCD screen , although the screen is NOT lit up. Since the player is not recognized by either computer, I cannot upload files (music or otherwise).Any ideas Thanks. Anthony Giorgianni

I got mine woking. This what I did.
First I did not followed the recovery instructions.
If you installed the Device Recovery Mode drivers uninstal and reboot pc.
I did downloaded the MStorage_PCDRV_LB__07_00_250.exe (link is in recovery sticky) just to have the latest drivers.
Plug the MuVo TX FM to your pc usb.
When the install wizards appears do nothing.
Unplug MuVo.
Close wizard.
Plug MuVo again to your pc usb.
Run the firmware update (Go to download section to get it). Gi've it a minute (more or less).
The upgrade process will do something, I don't know what it is that recognizes the Muvo (The Muvo turns on).
Follow instruction on screen.
BTW your Muvo will be formated, keep this in mind if you have important info in it.
I hope this hel
ps.
I went thru a lot of trial and error so I may have missed a step.Message Edited by jibaro009 on 0-09-2006 06:22 PM

kungfookiller,
Try downloading the latest firmware update from website and use it to update and format the player. Remember to check the option 'Format Data Area'. Backup your player data first though.

Try this:
Disconnect the player and then open Device Manager.
Select View Devices by Connection and Show Hidden Devices.
Under your USB connection find all entries for your player including ones for Player Recovery Device and remove them all.
Close Device Manager, restart PC?and then connect your player.

• Muvo N200 support playlis

I am seriously considering purchasing a muvo n200 GB, however I would like to know if there is anyway to organize the songs e.g through playlists , or is it just one big space to dump all your songs, and you'd have to scroll through every song just to find one that you want to hear.
thank you for reading my post, any input is greatly appreciated.

There seems to be some confusion on this topic. Hopefully this post will help clear the matter up.
I just bought the MuVo n200 and I really like it (256mb model). I had the same question you did about playlists. You can create playlists on your computer with the software provided but the player itself does not support playlists. The player does support the use of folders, so essentially you can accomplish the same task as a playlist by creating folders and storing them on your player. Once the folders have been stored on your player, you simply skip to the folder you want to listen to. When a folder is transferred to the player the songs in the folder will be arranged alphabetically. I have not figured a way around this but it is no big deal if you keep your folders reasonably small.
Also I have noticed that you cannot put a folder in a folder (like you can in Windows directories). You can do this on the computer with the software provide but you cannot transfer the embedded folders. For example, if you create a folder named Rock and put several folders in that folder named Boston, REM, Dire Straits, etc and then transfer this data to your player, the player will not recognized the folder. All this means is that if you create a folder you must put songs in it, not other folders. Again, no big deal as long as you know this.
I like this product. The only shortcoming I have seen is the documentation is lacking. This is somewhat made up for by the quick and accurate response I got from Tech Support though. They got back to me in about 5 minutes. I have pasted the response from Tech Support below.
Thank You for being Creative Customer.
For using the muvo micro to store playlists, I'm afraid this is not
supported by the player. It can store folders instead.
Thus in place of playlists, you may wish to create folders at the ROOT
directory and store the files you want, into each folder instead.
And to playback the songs in a particular folder, you may skip to that
folder directly.
I apologise for any inconveniences caused to you.
We look forward to serving you again.

• Muvo N200, 1GB installation prob

I made the mistake of connecting the Muvo to my computer before
installing the software. Not a good idea. Even after installing
the software the device manager keeps on indentifying the Muvo
as an "Unknown device". I then tried installing it on my wife's
computer in the proper order and the Muvo was recognized properly.
But I want to install it on my computer. Unfortunately all my
system restore points were overwritten by my many install attempts,
so now I am sunk. I've got to figure out how to fix the damage
manually. Even removing the device using the device manager,
uninstalling the software, reinstalling in the proper order,
and finally connecting the MP3 player doesn't work. When I plug
in the MP3 player itstill recognizes it only as an unknwown
device.

> Jason-CL wrote: There's no need to install driver if you're
> using Windows XP.
It did work on other computers, so as you pointed out, it was
clear the problem was not with the Muvo N200. I tried updating
the BIOS and all the MotherBoard related drivers. Then I removed
all USB stuff via the Device Manager and let XP put it all back.
... Plugged the muvo back in ...
Drat. It just says "Unknown Device" and does not show another
disk dri've.
> and you could try creating another user account ...
Tried that too. Same problem
> Try using other available USB port ...
The four main USB ports on the MBD back panel were all
in use so I had been using one of the four USB ports on
a PCI add-in card I installed to give me more ports.
I tried switching to the USB ports on the front of the
computer (which are cabled to an aux USB connector on
the motherboard). Same deal - unknown device. (This is
getting old).
Finally I tried unplugging my digital camera base unit
from on the the four main USB ports on the MBD back panel
and I plugged my Muvo N200 into that. Instant Recognition!!!
A new disk dri've appears, and it even knows that it is a
Create Muvo. So then I plugged my digital camera base unit
into the USB add-in card and it works just fine too. (It
also shows up as a disk dri've).
So now all is well except for my fragile understanding.
Here I thought all USB ports were created equal (well except
for the ver verses ver 2 thing). But clearly on my computer
they are not. Perhaps there is someting wrong with my MBD
or its setup that causes this.
Anyway, thanks for all your suggestions, especially since
I don't think I would have figured it out on my own.

• MuVo does not show up in "My Comput

I have an Emachines 2.92 ghz system with 024 ram running Windows XP and I do have Adminstrati've rights. I installed the software on my computer as instructed. When I rebooted and then attached the Muvo txfm to my usb port. The Muvo screen shows the moving USB icon as pictured in the instruction manual but it was NOT recognized in "My Computer".
There was something under "Control Panel" called Muvo system folder I think and when I clicked that, it said there was no dri've connected and that I should connect the dri've to the USB port. But it already was connected. I tried another USB port but the system would not recognize it from there either. It is listed in Device manager under dri'ves and there is no question mark or exclaimation mark there or anywhere in Device Mgr. but when I select the dri've to go into "Properties" the computer freezes for about 20 seconds. Then properties opens up and it says "there is no problem with this device." A window came up in my taskbar saying there was a problem with hardware installation so the device may not work properly. I disconnected all usb devices and connected the Muvo again but it doesn't show up. Then I rebooted, attached the device again but still the same problem. Then I unistalled the software and attached the device to the USB port and a window came up saying the hardware was installed and the device was now ready for use but it still is not in "MY Computer" so I am unable to access the device to do anything with it. It is in Device Mgr as "disk dri've" now. Then I deleted the device from Device Mgr and rebooted. I installed the driver update called "MStorage_PCDRV_LB__07_00_250.exe" from your website and then plugged the Muvo into the USB port again and it showed up there as Muvo TXFM but still not in My Computer listing.
I tried to install the Firmware update from your website called: "MuVoTXFM_PCFW_LF__9_0.exe" but because the Muvo doesn't show up in "MY computer" it is unable to find the device and it just hangs as it looks for the device.
OK, now I'm thinking the Muvo is a defecti've player so I plugged it into my 998 Dell computer running Windows Me. with no software installation at all and it showed up in "My Computer" in a matter of seconds. I even put a song on it from the Dell computer. So wassup?
Thanks for your help
P.S. I also did these two registry fixes allowing permissions on both (but they were already set to that anyhow) so it did not fix it:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\U SB
And also I downloaded and installed the three microsoft fixes I found on one of the many posts I read on this forum for media player and something else. I cant remember what, I am just so exhausted!

Connect your player and find its entry in Device Manager. Click on Remove then disconnect player. Also select Show Hidden Devices and remove any extra entries for your player.
Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and remove the MuVo drivers, Mediasource and Media Explorer software.
Reboot PC and then re-connect player - it should be detected immediately by XP.
Another thing it might be is if you are using a front-mounted USB port on your PC - these don't always supply enough current. They allow the player to be seen but not enough to actually do anything with it.
If you choose View Devices by Connection in Device Manager with the player connected and drill down to find the entry for your player, you can look at the properties for the controller and hub that it is connected to. One of these shows the current equired and the current available.

• I really need help with my creative MuVo N200 mp3 pla

i got my MuVo N200 mp3 player for chirtmas of last year, and it stopped working in 3 months. it used to shut off every few minutes and the mic doesnt work any more and i cant record music from the radio. right now it doesnt even work for a minute, it shuts off as soon as i try and turn it on. i emailed creative when it first started happening and they sent me a email saying what to do on there website, something about downloading something. i tryed it and it didnt work, im not sure if i didnt do it right. And right now i have no idea what to do. and creative won't help me unless i pay them money to fix it for me which im not about to do. has anyone have the same problem with the MuVo N200 mp3 player? what am i suppose to do to fix it's I still have there email telling me what to do, but i just dont get how to do it and if it will work. It only worked for me 3 months, and now im mad and thinking about buying a new one thats not from creative but i really want to try fixing it again to see if it will work. please help me.

Good question, unfortunately I have absolutely no idea. Reflashing/-formatting generally takes care of the usual cases of wonkyness this player develops, and there isn't anything more drastic you as a user could do.
Do you have a directory named "Recorded Tracks" on your player? Should be created automatically, but if it isn't you could try creating it manually...

• Muvo N200 FM Radio - no stereo so

I have a Muvo N200 52GB with latest firmware (.2.0).
The only problem I have with it is that the FM Radio sound output is mono even if the display indicates stereo reception.
I can achieve stereo sound if I pull out the headphone jack a little way but the connection is not secure if I do this and I don't have to do this to listen to WMA/MP3 music.
This could be down to firmware but I have only seen one other post with this problem.
I will try to reflash just in case but would appreciate any other suggestions.
In my opinion, even if FM reception is mono, sound output should still be directed to both right and left channels and not just one (left channel in my case).

Obviously the player is faulty as even if it's in mono you will get output from both channel. You can try reinstalling the firmware on the player and see if that helps just in case. If not, you should return to creative and get it repair.
