Muxing Problems

Hello,
I'm editing projects in FCP that will then be encoded to MPEG and played back on a broadcast server. What I've been doing is exporting a QT movie (not self-contained) and then using compressor to encode the MPEG. Now, as you know, Compressor seperates the audio and video for DVD Studio Pro. This is fine, and I do make a DVD back up. But what I want to do is MUX (multiplex - create 1 mpeg file from the m2v and aiff files) the programs together.
I've been using Bitvice for my muxing. But lately, it's been failing. It says that the aiff file is not recognisable.
I'm using the 90 Best Quality settings in compressor. It creates a 2 pass m2v, which is fine and recognizable, and a 48,000/16bit aif, which is apparently unrecognisable.
Any ideas?
Also, is there any easier way to do this? Why can't i just export a multiplex mpeg 2? Almost every broadcast server i've worked with wants this format.
Thanks
cc

Also, make sure you are running QT Pro. If you installed QT and didn't register the Pro serial number, you will be limited. For more info, check out this article:

  • Muxing problem -- Too fast, files don't work

I'm trying to encode a DVDSP 3 project.
I'm choosing Single Pass VBR and "better" Motion Detection.
    I'm on a 1Gghz TiBook.
The entire process, including Muxing, is taking a minute or two. This should take hours. The resulting video_ts folder can be played on Apple's DVD Player, but when I burn a disk, it's a mess and essentially unreadable on a proper hardware DVD player.
I've trashed my preferences. I have reinstalled.
There are no pre-existing video_ts folders or files.
I have tried changing my Encoding settings and using different permutations of build/burn/format.
Results are always the same -- DVDSP 3 zooms through the encoding precodure producing unusable files.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
Thanks for helping. See my responses below.
    Multiple questions:
    1) How long is the video that is being encoded in
    hours/minutes?
    Approximately 1 hour.
    2) Is this the first time you've built this project?
If not, and the video has already been encoded to
MPEG2, it will be much faster to build than the first
time. Muxing does still take some time, but depending
on the answer to Question 1 above, it could be
    speedier than you think.
I might have left this out of my original post, but A) I did build the project before, yet B) I deleted the video_ts and all related files from the build. I'm under the impression this means DVDSP thinks it hasn't built the project yet. Am I wrong assuming this?
    3) Did you use an MPEG2 file in DVDSP (created from
Compressor or something else), or did you place an
unencoded movie in DVDSP to let it do the encoding?
If the latter, is the unencoded movie still around?
Was it a reference movie or a self-contained? If
reference, try to open the movie itself in QuickTime
Player. Maybe parts of the reference movie are
    missing.
I imported .DV files and let DVDSP create .m2v files. But this isn't the same as encoding, right? I mean, they only took a minute to import. I thought they still need to be "really" encoded, which is what Building does. Am I wrong? In other projects, I imported .DV files this way, but it still took a long time to encode them once I hit "Build".
    4) When you say "when I burn a disk," what are you
using to do the burning? DVDSP or something else? If
the VIDEO_TS folder is playable on Apple's DVD
Player, it should be playable on anything, unless
you're not burning it to disc correctly. DVDSP does
the burn correctly. If you're trying to do it
manually with Toast or something, you could be doing
it incorrectly which is causing hardware DVD players
    to choke on it.
I'll try doing it from within DVDSP. I was using Toast. I've successfully used Toast many times, but it's a good idea to see what happens when I use DVDSP.

  • Muxing problem in DVD SP4

I'm having a problem when I "build" the project in DVD SP4.1. There are periodic digital defects in the video that are in the video TS folder when it is played with DVD Player 4.6.5 and when the burned disc is played on a home DVD player. The defects are in the exact same spots on both. They are not, however, on the mpeg 2 when played in DVD SP4.1 either from the timeline or using the simulator, the playback is flawless. The mpeg 2 was created with compressor 2.1 at 7.2 mgps average with a max of 9, VBR and two pass best. No error message appeared. The OS 10.4.3 was installed from disc and then updated to 10.4.6. During the mpeg 2 compression and during the build, ethernet and log in's were turned off. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Henrik

    Hi David,
Thank you for the reply. For the last six months I've been having multiple problems with my computer, including not being able to open DVD SP4 after installing Final Cut Studio, Compressor not working, the spinning beach ball of death and other issues. I've traced the problem to two 1GB memory boards I bought at Comp-USA. They are their own brand and apparently not Mac compatible. I pulled the boards, leaving me with 3.5Gig, formatted the drive, re-installed OS10.4.3, updated to 10.4.6, installed Studio and everything works perfectly! Thank you so much for all your help, it is greatly appreciated.

  • Import MPEG1 Muxed Problem - No audio

I am attempting to import some video clips that have been save to disk in the "MPEG1 - Muxed" format (according to Get Info).
The clips play perfectly in Quicktime - video and audio.
When I import them into iMovie, however - NO SOUND. Video is fine.
Are there any tricks I need to know for importing these clips? Not that it matters, but they are long (about an hour each - 6 of them) and about 1.2 gig each.
    Thanks in advance.

OK - I have downloaded Streamclip. There are many choices for conversion. I am not going to do anything fancy in iMovie - I just need to edit the clips. For example, I do NOT need to alter the audio in any way - I just want the audio to stay synched with the video as I cut various snippets.
So of the many choices in Streamclip - which would be best?

  • Muxing Preparation problem during encoding

during the iDVD encoding process, I get an message of "muxing preparation error'. I am burning from an FCP 6 project. I've tried to burn the project on different computers and with different iDVD themes, with audio and without. I've even re-built the Quicktime movie from FCP several times with different codecs. It's been tried on an Intel Mac and a Motorola Mac. Same muxing problem each time. Help!

The problem was discovered! I'm a TV Production instructor and the project was a student's. The student had made an error in his FCP project by putting a piece of video and audio about 12 minutes past the actual end. When iDVD's encoding process encountered this, it didn't know what to do with 12 minutes of "video nothing". So it gave the muxing prep error. I had him delete the unneeded video and iDVD is burning it now without a problem. He now knows to end projects when they actually end! Thanks for the help.

  • FCPX Event Shows Video Number but No Video

I am new to video editing and do only light edits. I use FCPX and am trying to learn. One of my coworkers uses an older iMac and she has a tendancy to crash her FCPX. Her new iMac should arrive in few days, but here is my problem.
Any events folder that she has worked with has a symbol signifying missing media. If you organize the clips in the event by date, there are several days with numbers next to them as if they have clips, but there are no video clips. It is not that there is a placeholder for a disconnected clip, I mean there is nothing. Anyone have an idea how I can fix this please?

Same happened to me. I converted WVM to MPG1 using "Blaze Media Pro" program and open in Quick Time with no problem and sound but when I exported to my Ipod, I did not have any sound in I tunes or the Ipod. Due to the "muxed" problem as I read in another article. Then I use the program PQ DVD (fee in the internet to download for trial) and I converted directly from this program to MPG-4 and from I tunes only I went to file and add this file and I have now sound and video. I did not have to use Quick Time. The program is also fast. the site is http://www.pqdvd.com/index.html

  • Urgent!!  Problems muxing .m2v files and audio!! MPEG Streamclip/Compressor

    Hello!
I am under an urgent deadline to upload a short 6 min documentary clip for a client to review for screening this week. The footage was shot in 1080/60i HDV.
Usually, I find the best quality and fastest way to do this is to export directly from my FCP sequence using the '150 min Best Quality' DVD settings in compressor to get an .m2v video file and .ac3 audio file. Then I open the .m2v files in MPEG Streamclip which links it with my .ac3 file, then do 'Export MPEG with MP-2 audio". This gives me a single, muxed file that I can then upload to YouTube or Vimeo.
However, with this project, when I open up my .m2v file in MPEG Streamclip, it's recognizing the .ac3 file and I can see the info for it in the MPEG Streamclip window, but when I play the file in MPEG Streamclip or mux it, I don't hear any audio. Furthermore, after about 5 seconds into the clip, the playhead will continue moving, but the video will freeze, then maybe pick up again later. The .m2v video will play back smoothly in VLC player or Quicktime player, but not in MPEG Streamclip.
I've tried exporting different little sections of the timeline to see if maybe I had some corrupted footage or whatnot. I even exported a small clip from an older HDV project to test. But no matter where I export from, I am running into the same problem. I can bring the .m2v file and .ac3 file into DVD Studio Pro and burn a DVD with no problem, but I can't mux them. If I build the DVD file in DVD SP and try to open the .VOB file with MPEG Streamclip, I get the same problem. I even tried using a different software to mux (ffmpegX) but to no avail. When I try with ffmpegX, it either tells me I'm dropping frames, or if it works and it muxes it, when I open the MPEG file, it'll stutter at about 5 seconds in as well and I can't hear any audio, even though there is supposed to be audio in the muxed file.
I think I might have updated my Quicktime a few days ago with the system update, and maybe updated a few other things, so I don't know if this has any bearing on the problems I'm running into. But I was able just a few days ago to export HDV 1080/60i using this workflow without any problems.
I realize I have other export options, but this always seems to me to be the best quality and fastest way of doing it vs. encoding an H.264 which, on my machine is RIDICULOUSLY slow...I need to be uploading multiple versions of the cut to the client, and really need help! Thanks so much in advance!
    J

what you want is an m2v program file. Export a reference copy from FCP (uncheck Make Movie Self Contained") That's very fast. Bring it into Compressor. In the settings panel find the MPEG-2 settings folder. Select Program Stream. Adjust to your liking and run. The audio and video will already be "muxed" when it's done and using compressor 3 you can set it to upload to YouTube, Mobile or similar sites.

  • Problems with signal strength with channels on Mux...

I've had a YouView box (Humax first gen model) for almost a week and i'm having pixelation/signal strength problems with all channels on Mux. Com5, Pick, Dave, Movie Mix and Really etc. My Vision+ box and TV are showing these channels without any problems. Any ideas?

    I have a similar problem.
(But not on Crystal Palace Tx).
Switch to a poor channel. (Dave for example. This is one I have problems with).
Go to Settings, TV Settings, Freeview Signal Strength.
Now press the Info button to get extra information.
Note the UHF channel number, the channel  is being received on.
Get the same channel information, on the other Freeview receiver you have.
In my case, the UHF channels are different.
I believe, the Youview box is pre-set to receive from a transmitter (and hence a UHF channel number), determined by  a post-code and/or  your address details.
Because my aerial is not pointing at the main transmitter for my post code,  I get poor reception because the transmitter the aerial is pointing at, transmits Dave (MUX) on another UHF channel.
As confirmed by the other freeview receivers I have.
There doesn't seem to be a way to force the box to use any other UHF channel.
Any scan always comes up with the same one.
    There is no manual setting.
I might be totally wrong, but I think this is another software bug.

  • Non- muxed  video  problem

i am trying to get the sprint: locker room video from this site http://www.ifilm.com/player/?ifilmId=2691874&pg=&skin=askmen&refsite=6183&launch Val=1&mediaSize=default
onto my ipod, i have converted it to ipod format but whe i watch it on my ipod, there is no sound. I kmow its not muxed because for format it says "Format: MovieMovie Apple QuickDraw, 400x300, Unknown.
So what is the issue since its not muxed....

NO, I do not think I will waste my time downloading and converting something I have no interest in seeing.
Try using a different program to convert.
    Mpeg streamclip : http://www.squared5.com/
    Mediacoder: http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/
    or google for converter.

  • A unique Internal Muxer Error problem

I'm using DVD Studio Pro 4.1.1
I've searched through threads and have found that people have gotten this message, but never under the circumstances which I got it at.
I have a stand alone DVD recorder that records DVD-RAM discs. I was hoping to record my favorite TV show and then rip it to my computer so that I could:
    1. Cut out the commercials without having to sit and watch it, I could just cut out the commercials using MPEG Streamclip
    2. Get more on video on my DVD
So, I ripped the MPEG2 from the DVD. It was recorded in XP mode, which fits 1 hour. Since the show is 30 minutes, I figured I could fit 3 episodes on a disc (I'm very picky about video quality) because without commercials they'd be about 20 minutes each.
I used Toast Titanium 8 to rip the video from the DVD-RAM disc, and it rips it as a mpeg2. Now, I know DVD Studio Pro 4 cannot handle MPEG2 video that is already muxed, so I demuxed the video and the audio. I pull them into DVD Studio Pro without any issue and got everything set. I just have a basic menu, no chapter markers for each title, nothing. The total file size is a little larger than allowed, but that's okay cause I can just compress it when burning it with Toast, that way the disc is 4.36gb at the highest bitrate possible.
When I go to build though I get the dreaded Internal Muxer Error.
The video is encoded at 8.9mbps, and the audio is AC3 192kbps.
Now, I would just use Toast to make the DVD but Toast keeps wanting to re-encode it because I don't think it will burn anything about 8mbps.
Heres the info of the m2v file from Quicktime:
    MPEG2 Video, 640 x 480
    FPS: 29.94
    8.94 mbits/sec
Could the FPS be the issue? I mean, the DVD RAM disc plays fine on my DVD Recorder.
Does anyone have any suggestions? If it's encoded at too high of a quality, is there a way to lower the bitrate slightly? I've worked in video for a while but have never had to take a mpeg2 video file and re-encode it, usually any re-encoding I'd do with DVD2Xone or Toast Titanium, using their disc image compressing. When re-encoding the mpeg2 itself with Toast the quality was bad and it was filled with interlace looking lines, except bigger.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Adam
Sorry to tell you this (especially after all the hard work you put in explaining it) but this forum is used as a legitimate arena for users of DVDSP to post questions.
It may not seem like much to you but what your doing is illegal and someone (maybe me :)) will be losing money on something they put much work into - really.
I would suggest posting somewhere else.

  • PCM problem - Muxer Bit Rate Too High

I'm continually receiving the error "Muxer error Bit Rate Too High." I've narrowed it down to the PCM audio that I'm using. I know many would recommend that I switch to .AC3. Unfortunately, that is not an option.
I received audio from 3 sources. From an audio post house, the quicktimes produced on my mac and the encoded PCM files from the Maestro real time mpeg encoder. The weird thing is that the PCM files from the real time encoder work fine. If I remove all the audio, but leave the PCM from Maestro...there are no issues.
I have even gone as far as outputting from FCP to dbeta and then re-encoding with Maestro and that didn't work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Erik, you may be about to hate me, but I am just making sure I understand the process of elimination, you deleted all audio from all tracks and ONLY left the PCM audio on the main track and it did not build? And the same thing for each of the menus (all audio out of the project except for a menu at a time?)
1.) Not sure how you made the menus or you default preferences within DVD SP, but if the encoding rate for menus was high and it was a motion menu the spike could still happen.
2.) If the steps were as above, take a look at the build file on your computer to see where it is crashing out and/or watch the log to see what is being muxed when the projects crashes
3.) If in fact that leaving just the PCM audio in the track by itself (not the 5.1) you may want to delete preferences and the MPEG/PAR files that DVD SP creates and also repair permissions. Then take the PCM and try rexporting from Quicktime to AIF and use a different name for the file such as "SecondTry.aif" so it is clear it is the other file.
BTW which version of DVD SP are you running and which version of QT?

  • New problem with QT Pro, stopped recognizing .mpg sound files (Muxed)

Have been playing .mpg & .mpeg files just fine with QT Pro. Today I can only get video, no sound output, and the video 'freeze frames' while the progress bar cursor continues to track. This is with ALL .mpg and .mpeg files. Sound is apparently there because the graphic sound visual is active. The freeze frame will start again by clicking the mouse button, or double strike of the spacebar (pause/unpause) but stops again later. All the files play normally in MPlayer. MOV files play fine for both sound and video with QT Pro. No improvement with re-installing QT Pro (new download). FirstAid - no problems. Currently running new version of Disk Warrior over entire disk but don't expect much improvement.

That may be a problem with the timecode. Try to fix that with the timecode correction menu item. May not work but this is a freeware:Mpeg StreamClip

  • Problem reading PXI-2503 channels above 23 in 1-Wire 48x1 Mux mode in Linux

I'm having trouble getting relay positions above 23 in the 1-wire 48x1 mode
    % nilsdev | grep 2503
    NI PXI-2503: "Dev1"
The topology is set to "2503/1-Wire 48x1 Mux" via the following API, using device "Dev1"
      DAQmxSwitchSetTopologyAndReset(device,topology)
In theory that means there are 48 inidividual relays than can be read, however, the following fails:
     switchname = "/Dev1/ch47"
     DAQmxSwitchGetSingleRelayPos(switchName, &pos)
    The error returned is:
DAQmx Error: Relay name is invalid.
    Relay Name: ch47
    Status Code: -200202
    which is
        #define DAQmxErrorInvalidRelayName   (-200202)
I am unable to get the relay position for anything above relay 23  ( /Dev1/ch23 )
Is that the expected behaviour, or is there a driver or hardware issue ?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

When using this switch in "1-wire" mode, we are essentially breaking each (+)/(-) pair into their own channels.  Since this topology utilizes double pole, single throw switches whose individual terminals cannot be switched independently, another switch is introduced to decide which side of the switch is being accessed as what point in time, (+) or (-).
Instead of having 48 single pole single throw, we can have 24 double pole single throw and one single pole double throw to decide which polarity we're referencing.  You can still utilize this topology in a 48x1 1-wire mode.
To manually switch using DAQmx relay commands, you will have to specify the channel switch and the polarity switch as Maggie mentioned.  When you call "DAQmxSwitchConnect /Dev1/ch47 /Dev1/com0", the driver knows to close the ch 24 relay in addition to "HLSELECT" AND "1WIRE" to route only the positive terminal (effectively ch.47).
The NI Switches Help document contains a more detailed explanation of the topology if you navigate to Devices >> NI PXI-2501/2503 >>
    1-Wire 48×1 Multiplexer Topology.

    Hi everyone!
I have a problem that has been plagueing me for nearly a year now, all audio in all videos i play in Firefox goes out of synch, the video will start ok then at around the two minute mark the audio starts to lag until it's completely left the visual playback behind, the only solution is to keep clicking the video back a few seconds to re-align the audio, this is temp as the audio will slowly drop out of synch again!
This problem has been driving me crazy!
It doesn't happen in Chrome or IE only Firefox. I have posted thread after thread on tech forums but nobody has yet been been able to help, i'm using the latest Firefox. the latest Flash Player (uninstalled and re-installed properly) all my drivers are bang up to date, all caches cleared all....in fact you name it iv'e done it!
This was never an issue until about a year ago, nothing has been installed hardware wise and the only software installed has been updates for ongoing programmes!

    Hi Chris,
Hardware acceleration on or off makes absolutely no difference, i recently tried watching videos in a 100% fresh install and new profile in firefox (no addons) and the problem still occurs albiet a little slower in the new install, ie it takes a little longer to drop out of synch.
There is a noticeable difference in framerate just before the problem occurs, like a very tiny hiccup, from that point on the audio gets left further and further behind, it's remedied by clicking back a few seconds on the video play bar but this is only temporary, lately i've even noticed it happening with live streams from the BBC, once again i must stress, this doesn't happen in Chrome or Opera or IE.
