MW or manual application of patch 7303029?

I am performing an 11.5.10.2 -> R12.1.1 upgrade on Linux-x86 using the Maint Wizard (MW).
I am in at this step:
Cat: Upg to Rel 12.1.1
PF: Perform the Upgrade
Task: Perform the Upgrade
Step: Apply patch 7303029
While performing the step for patch 7303029 (step 9.1, scriptID=34009) I looked at the script to check that it was being applied with the "preinstall=y" switch.
But, the script, ad34009s.sh, does not actually "apply" the patch -- the script downloads it and then copies the u7303029.drv file to the preinstall directory. I thought that this was a bit strange since I thought the patch actually needed to be applied in order to copy the necessary files. I didn't see a step where it said to apply the patch so I just let the MW do the "Setup" and "Exectute" steps and then I moved on.
Now during the main patch (u6678700.drv) I am getting a "file not found" worker error on file OKCMOORG.sql. This file is part of patch 7303029 -- ./7303029/okc/patch/115/sql/OKCMOORG.sql.
Was I supposed to manually apply patch 7303029 in preinstall mode? If so then the MW instructions are a bit vague on this between the "Setup" and "Execute" phases.
I think that the answer here is "yes" but now how do I recover from missing this step?

The execute step of 9.1 requires you to run admerge with all the preinstall patches that had been staged during step one of the UPG to Rel 12.1.1 -> Apply Preinstall Patches task. As indicated in note 954704.1 patch 7303029 should have been applied in pre-install mode as well as any necessary financials patches called out in note 1127593.1
So the answer is:
You should have already manually applied patch 7303029 in pre-install mode as indicated in note 954704.1 called out in step one of Apply Preinstall Patches task. Then you should manually apply the merged driver of the preinstall directory and the u6678700.drv driver created in the 9.1 execute step for the complete updated 12.1.1 driver.
When you get to the setup step of 9.1 it just verifies that everything is in place for the manual merge in the execute step. We can enhance this to apply the patch in preinstall mode again in case it was overlooked as in your case.
The text is misleading and we will correct the text and attempt to automate this step in future releases.

Is it possible to use Configuration Manager 2012 (or 2012 R2) to perform remote installation of operating system, applications and patching in a Unix environment?
    Balaji Kundalam

ConfigMgr does not support Operating System Deployment for non-Windows OS flavors.
You can use the ConfigMgr client on a Unix device to install applications and to instruct the device to install patches. Basically, the client will download files and run a script against them.  If there is a patch manager in your flavor of *nix, you
can run a script to install the patches.

Strange enough, there doesn't seem to be a controlled process of publishing patches / notes / doc at the same time (happens quite often).

I recommend finding out exactly why they would need administrative privileges and find GPO settings that would work for your organization. If they only need to install Drivers lets say, then only give them privileges to do that.
I personally work in the IT Department (Army of two) in an environment that has hundreds of users. They program, manufacture, and design various products and we are not flooded with requests. No user has administrative privileges aside from the us two in
the IT Department. This allows us to better control the environment.
By allowing your users to have administrative privileges, they will always have the capabilities to "Override" your policies for at least the computers they have administrative privileges.
Of course, each environment is different and should be considered differently when setting up users rights and privileges. To perform their daily functions, ask yourself what administrative privileges do they need? Maybe only allow them those privileges
    through GPO.

  • Manual install of patch 118844-28

I'm trying to do a patchadd on 118844-28, but it complains that patch 117435-02 must be installed first or that the computer needs to be rebooted after the patch 117435-02 has been applied.
When using the Update Manager it seems that 117435-02 has been installed and I've rebooted numerous times after that, but still when I try patchadd on the kernel patch above it gives me that error message.
Am I doing something wrong or what's going on?
It was quite awhile since I used Solaris and I've now installed Solaris 10 x86 1/06 and used the Update Manager to install patches, but the kernel patch apparently must be installed manually so I've done a "shutdown -i S" to get into single user mode (I'm not sure if that's how one is supposed to do it) then
    cd /var/sadm/spool/
    patchadd 118844-28
    Any ideas?

There may be a bug in the patch, in the prepatch script to be precise.
In the prepatch script there the line
    bootdev=`prtconf -v /devices | sed -n '/boot-device/{n;p;}' | grep pci | cut -f 2 -d \'`
change boot-device to bootpath and then the patch seems to install alright.

  • Performance issue after application of patch ATG RUP 7

    Dear Friends,
my env is Solaris SPARC 10 with 11.5.10.2 (10.2.0.4). I had applied upgraded developer 6i to 6.0.28 and applied ATG RUP7 patch last night and ever since the performance of the application is mighty slow. The concurrent programs take longer to run. The forms takes too much time to load(more than twice the time it used to than before). I can always see a load on the server level. I tried Gathering SCHEMA statistics for all users and its been running for the past 10 hours now. Could someone point me in the right direction as to what could have gone wrong. All the pre-req patches and post req patches have been applied as per the various docs.

I want to know whether we can apply the patch using c/d/g driver without using adpatch. The c/d/g drivers are just like the u driver and should be applied using adpatch only (cannot be applied manually or from the command prompt!).
If there are any additional manual steps mentioned in the patch README file, then you have to implement it too.
    Thanks,

  • Upgrading a customized bpel worklist application after patch update

    Hi,
We have a customized worklist application running developed on SOA 10.1.3.1. Now that we are migrating to version 10.1.3.3. I have 2 related queries:
    1. Is there any documentation on whatsnew in the worklist application provided by oracle as part of SOA suite 10.1.3.3. (When doing a file compare on the code, I find quite a few changes but I would like to know if there is a whatsnew feature list by oracle)
    2. I would also like to know the best practices to migrate the customized worklist application to take advantage of the new features if any of the worklist application provided with SOA suite 10.1.3.3
Help on this is really appreciated.
    Edited by: user10546490 on Jan 21, 2009 4:21 AM

    Hi,
The worklist application is customizable but you are running into the biggest problem when you customize it. There is no predefined way to migrate your worklist application to the new version. If you only made changes to the user interface the best way to upgrade is to apply the changes you made to the 10.1.3.1 version also to the new 10.1.3.3 version (by the way i would certainly upgrade to 10.1.3.4 instead of 10.1.3.3 since you plan on upgrading anyway). This problem is exactly the reason we decided to build our own worklist application based on the api's that are also being used by Oracle's version of the worklist application. In most cases (until now) the api definitions are not that different. If you also made lots of changes to the application jsp's and code you have to merge them with the new version which will be a lot of work but i am afraid there is no other solution.
    Kind Regards,

  • Application of patches on oracle data guard 10g

    Help!
I need apply the patch 9233832 on oracle 10.2.0.4 but I have configuration a pysical data guard. Considerations should I have to do? What steps should I follow?
    Thanks.

    Hello;
I have the steps in my notes will post back here - These :
Disable log shipping from the Primary
    Shutdown Standby
    Install patch software on Standby
Startup Standby in recovery mode (do NOT run any SQL at the standby)
    Shutdown Primary
    Install patch software on Primary
Run SQL for patch on the  Primary
    Re-enable log shipping
Monitor the redo apply from Primary This is pretty much the same for a CPU type patch or going from say 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.2. On Standby you just install the software and let the redo handle the rest.

  • Manual application of hotfixes?

    Hi-
We're running the baseline version of coldfusion 8 using SSL
and want to apply a hotfix. The problem is that when we click on
the 'BROWSE SERVER ICON" from the System Information area, CF comes
back with a "Retrieving Initial Directories" panel but then it just
sits there spinnnig it's wheels and never returns. I'm thinking
this may have something to do with our SSL configuration but I'm
also hoping someone knows a way to temporarily circumvent the issue
by manually applying the hotfix. Anyone know of a way to do this?
    thanks in avance!

want to note a couple of things.
Most important, though, in case it can't be solved, I'd note
that browse tool is just a convenience. If you know the path and
filename you want to point to, you can just type it in. (If you're
browsing the CF Admin remotely, the path needs to be that on the
remote machine, such as its c: drive, not your z: drive.)
    >> Tried both leaving it blank as well as giving it the
directory where the new jar file resides.
    >> I suspect it may not like the SSL connection. . .
Beyond that, first, the browse button is a java-based
feature, so if your browser doesn't support Java, that could be an
    issue.
    >> After clicking on "Browse Server", java comes up as
[i think] intended, and I believe a dir type command is
    >> issued and no result is returned, possibly because
the command is not gettnig thru or the result is coming back
    >> via http instead https on [perhaps] the wrong port.
But second, something else could be hurting you, and I wonder
if this may be your issue. Many don't realize it, but if you
disable RDS on a server (an option offered at installation, or
configurable at any time per this technote:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_17276),
then those browse buttons in the CF Admin don't work. Now, you
should see an error message, "Server Error: io error on
communication with the server" (and there's a separate technote,
    http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_18046,
which points that error to the other technote.)
    >> Could be a problem but don't see an error msg.
Of course, enabling RDS is discouraged on any public-facing
server, and in fact the installer discourages it, so many accept
the offer to disable it. But it does indicate also this impact on
the browse feature (but at installation, one may not appreciate the
    significance.)
You say things are just spinning,
    >> I should have said - "it's just spinning it's wheels
waiting for a response from the server". Sorry about that.
    >> As soon as you click "Browse Server", the "Select
File on Server" panel comes up and the hour glass
    >> will sit there forever...or at least an hour.
and I wonder if something is precluding the display of that
message (which is a graphic) in that prompt. In fact, if I mouse
over it, it does show the "spinning" icon as well, so I'm betting
this is this the issue. Let us know.
Or, again, just type the path/filename in manually, if you
    don't want to enable RDS.
    >> Same result either way- hour glass just sits there
PS I will note that one other reason people don't use RDS is
because it relies on a single password to be shared by all who
would use it. There's a new feature in CF 8 Enterprise to address
that, in the new option to enable multiple different user accounts
for both the Administrator and RDS. In fact, I just did an Adobe
DevCenter article introducing this at length. It's supposed to be
coming out later today (at 4pm eastern), I would assume at
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/coldfusion/.
Is there a way to apply the fix manually?
thanks for the time- it is much appreciated!!
    cheers,
    Bill
    thanks!!
