MX 2004  re-install problem, won't run!!!!!!!!

I have had Director MX 2004 installed on another computer. I
used PClink to transfer my files to a new computer. I can not run
ANY Macromedia product. I uninstalled all Macromedia products and
tried to re-install Director MX 2004. I get a message that the
install was successful but when I try to run Director nothing
happens, no errors, just no Director program.

Thanks for your quick response...
I already followed that link. I downloaded the iMac Superdrive update and installed it. And that Superdrive Firmware update is only for G5's and eMac's.
I thought it might be a bad disc, so I went to the Apple store to exchange my disc for a new one. And the new one doesn't work either.
So, I'm still at a dead end. Any other ideas?

Pagemaker is ancient, obsolete and unsupported. It was discontinued over 10 years ago. (Though why it is still sold is a mystery.)
If you want to run PageMaker, your best bet is to use a Win2K or WinXP PC.
Otherwise move to Indesign or look at Serif's PagePlus or Scribus.

  • Tiger/Panther install problems - won't boot from Tiger DVD or Panther CD

    My Mum has an iMac G3 CRT, running at 500MHz, with 1GB RAM, a 20GB HD, & a slot-loading internal CD-RW.
The iMac in question is the model described here: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/stats/imac500indigo.html
She only uses the machine for email & web browsing, but because it runs OS 9, it won't run a modern web browser (it's stuck on Internet Explorer 5.1.7) so lots of websites don't load properly or work at all. This is fair enough as IE for the Mac hasn't been updated since 2001.
My idea was to upgrade the machine from OS 9.2.2 to (ideally) 10.4.11, or failing that, 10.3.9, which would then let her use the current version of Safari, or possibly even Firefox. (Any thoughts on which would be easier for a currently IE-using technically-challenged pensioner would be welcome, although I prefer Safari myself, despite its shortcomings).
The iMac only had it's original 128MB of RAM until recently, but I persuaded her that it would be a good idea to spend 70-odd Pounds on 1GB of RAM so that OS X could not only be installed (which would let a modern browser be used) but would run at a useable speed. The minimum requirement for Panther is 128MB of RAM, but I suspected that it would run like treacle on a 128MB G3, and I was hoping to go for Tiger anyway, which requires 256MB.
As Tiger comes on a DVD (I have the retail/generic version) and the iMac has no DVD drive, I borrowed a friends external LaCie FireWire DVD-RW drive (the Porsche styled one). The DVD mounted first time, and the Startup Disk control panel let me select it.
When I restarted, I got the initial OS X pale grey screen with the dark grey Apple logo in the centre, with the spinning circle thing below, but after a minute or so, I could hear the DVD stop spinning in the drive, and a few seconds later the dark grey Apple logo changed into a dark grey "circle with a line through it" logo, with the normal circle thing still spinning below. This is how things stayed for many minutes, so I just restarted with the external drive off, and eventually got back to a normal 9.2.2 boot-up.
Next I tried running the "Mac OS X Install" application on the Tiger DVD from within 9.2.2. This started and came up with a big Tiger logo screen with a button labelled "Restart". Clicking it brought up an OS 9 error dialogue though, which said something along the lines of "the Tiger DVD cannot be selected as the startup disk" with a number 2 in brackets at the end of the error message - like this: (2)
This error occurs both if I select the Tiger DVD in the Startup Disk control panel prior to running the "Mac OS X Install" application, or if I select the internal hard disk. I know the DVD isn't faulty, as I used it to successfully boot my own Mac (a Power Mac G4 Mirror Drive Doors) just the other day, in order to repair permissions on the startup disk.
At this point I gave up on Tiger and tried to use the first of 3 Panther CDs that I have. These 3 CDs are burnt copies that came with my own Mac and contain version 10.3.2.
The CD refused to be selectable in the Startup Disk control panel. It's icon was greyed out, and so I couldn't boot from it. I tried running the "Install Mac OS X" application on the CD from within OS 9, but got the same error with the 2 in brackets when I clicked the "Restart" button, just like with the Tiger DVD.
Initially, I suspected that these Panther discs might be machine-specific, rather than the retail/generic version, because of the first CD being greyed-out in the Startup Disk control panel, but then the error dialogue that matched the one I got when I tried the Tiger DVD makes me think that my Panther CDs might be generic after all. Examining the first CD on my own Mac, it appears to be generic, but I'm not 100% sure, as the CDs are copies and as such don't have the usual identifying information on the labels. There are no machine-specific files that I can find on the first CD, which is dated January 9th 2004.
Various websites mention that when Tiger was current, Apple would swap a retail copy of the DVD for a set of CDs. I've looked on eBay but not been able to find any. This doesn't surprise me though, as there will be very few copies of Tiger on CD out there, and even fewer copies that people would want to sell.
There are a few retail copies of Panther available on CD, but if my current burnt copies of these discs are in fact generic, then buying a new set would make no difference. Besides, I'd prefer to use Tiger.
The Tiger minimum requirements (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1514) say:
"To use Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, your Macintosh needs: DVD drive (DVD-ROM), Combo (CD-RW/DVD-ROM) or SuperDrive (DVD-R) for installation"
What it doesn't say though, is whether the DVD drive has to be an internal one with Apple firmware/modifications, or whether an external 3rd party one will do. However, I know from various websites that it's possible to load Tiger onto this sort of Mac, and sometimes even older non-FireWire Macs, despite what the minimum system requirements say.
If anyone has any suggestions I'd be much obliged!
    Thanks.

The problem is now solved, but I'm not sure how I managed it, unfortunately.
Having read the article at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75430, I checked both my Tiger DVD and my first Panther CD, and neither had the firmware updater on them, despite what the article said, so I downloaded it. However I was sure I'd applied a firmware update to the iMac a long time ago, and the 4.1.9 version number seemed familiar.
When I checked, I had in fact already applied the firmware update a few years ago!
I tried running the "Mac OS X Install" application on the Tiger DVD from within 9.2.2 again, and got the same error message as before. I was wrong about the error code though. It was minus 2 in brackets, not 2 in brackets.
The full text of the error message is:
    An error occurred.
"Startup Disk was unable to select the
install CD as the startup disk. (-2)"
I tried selecting the DVD manually in the Startup Disk control panel (as before) and running the application again gave the same error message (also as before).
I then went into Extensions Manager to see if there was anything there that might be interfering with things. The only thing that caught my eye was the LaCie SilverLining control panel (which I think was version 6.4.5a). This was something that originally came on a floppy disk accompanying an external hard drive that I used to use years ago at a place I worked, and I used to find it invaluable back in the OS 9 G1 Power Mac magneto-optical external drive days!
I couldn't remember what it was doing on the iMac, but I switched it off, and then clicked "Restart", hoping that when I rebooted (in OS 9) the error message wouldn't come up when I ran the "Mac OS X Install" application.
However, I'd forgotten that I'd switched the Startup Disk control panel to the DVD, so when the iMac restarted, the initial OS X dark grey Apple logo screen appeared, and I expected the dark grey "circle with a line through it" logo to appear shortly afterwards, but it didn't! The iMac booted up from the DVD, which then let me install Tiger! I was then able to apply the 10.4.11 update, plus all the others that Software Update provided. About half a dozen restarts and several hours later, the iMac is now fully updated & configured, favourites are copied over to Safari 3.1.2, and all I have to do is teach my Mum how to use the OS X Finder, Mail & Safari, as opposed to the OS 9 Finder, Outlook Express & Internet Explorer...
Switching off the SilverLining control panel seemed to do the trick, but since the iMac then rebooted from the DVD, not the internal hard disk, I don't see how it could have possibly had any bearing on things! Very weird!
Anyway, thanks to Allan Jones & spudnuty for their advice. All's well that ends well!

  • Wacom Install Disk Won't Run

I just got a new Intuos4 medium tablet for my iMac 3.4 GHz i7 running 10.6.8.  I cannot get the driver install disk to run.
Every time I click on the "install" icon, the dock install icon bounces for about15 seconds, the install splash screen half displays and then I get a screen that says "Install quit unexpectedly."  A copy of the first part of the Problem Details report is attached.  I have the whole report if that would help. I don't know what an EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS) or a KERN PROTECTION FAILURE MEANS.
I'm pretty sure it is not the disk (although it could be the disk install software).  I have successfully started the install disk on 4 other Macs (all 64-bit, like this one) running a Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion. It does choke, however, on my Tiger equipped G5--I just get a white unfilled splash screen, with, of course, no error report.
It's also not the drive, because the same failure occurs on my iMac from an external drive.  It also occurs if I install all of the (visible) files directly onto the hard drive.
I've also tried a few programs that use installer scripts (not the "drag to the applications folder" type) -- Photoshop CS5 and Final Cut Studio -- and they start the install process just fine.
Any clues what's going on?  I know I can probably download what purports to be the latest driver from the wacom site, but I'd rather try to resolve this.  I've had numerous similar problems lately, and I'd like not to create more.
Any clues?  If it would be more helpful for me to just upload the entire 13 page crash report, let me know.

Before you posted, I did go to the website and downloaded their latest driver (probably newer than the one the disk says is on it).  I usually do follow that practice.  Like you I've found that web downloads are practically always more up to date than the ones that come packaged with hardware like this.  No faults here; it's just most reputable companies are constantly updating, improving functionality, aligning with sytem updates and getting rid of bugs.
I'm holding my breath, but the install seemed to have worked, with no apparent problems so far.  I have some Photoshop tasks to tackle over the weekend, so I may know more then.
I am still deeply concerned about some system issues I haven't resolved, and I really don't have an answer to why this disk won't run the install software on this machine only.  I'm hoping I don't have a deeper problem.
Kurt188, thanks for the suggestion about booting into 32-bit mode.  I do have a 2011 Core i7 27 inch iMac.  I tried 32-bit, but I got the same result.

  • ILife Install CD won't run

I just received iLife 06 and went to install the software. But the CD won't run. It gets ejected after about half a minute. No message on the screen. Yet all my other CD's work okay. Any ideas? Dan
    G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi Dan
Well first off, it's most often a DVD, does your drive read DVDs? Second, as your drive is working okay then you have to suspect a fauty disc. Can you try it in another machine? Or else return it.

  • ITunes 7 is installed but won't run

I recently installed iTunes onto my computer and it opened, but I wasn't able to connect to the music store. A friend suggested uninstalling, performing a system restore to an earlier date and try again. Well now iTunes installs, but it won't run. HELP!

    Hi Everyone.
This is a real disapointment from apple to us!
At this moment all we know that this is a BIGGER BUG ISSUE on the V7 upgrade.
I can't figure out how the apple guys give us an update that ***** in the main pourpouse of it ...LISTEN MUSIC!!!
I recommend that you uninstall the itunes as the quicktime, then reinstall to the V6.5 version and I hope that you have an iTunes Library.itl file backup because as a very GOOD ENDING the V7 give a new structure to this important file and will not be read again for previous itunes versions.
You can find the iTunes Library.itl at \My Documents\My Music\iTunes if you have a previous version to replace it.
By now, I hope that apple give us another new V.7 version fixing this bug among others and the testers can do their job as they receive their checks.
This is a very "punchself" for Jobs and Apple team then their last days announcements.
    Good luck to all!!

  • Air Port Express Utility problem.... installed but won't run

This is really weird, Windows says the install was successful and then I go to run the program and get an error ( Windows encountered and error and needs to close program...), even after a reboot same thing. Turned off the firewall to see if it was the problem but no dice. I need to walk away now I'm pretty frustrated. Help Please...
    Thanks in advance

I spoke with Apple support and still couldn't get the software to boot up on the XP PC. We installed the AP utility on my Vista laptop (connected to the same network) and was able to configure the AP on the XP PC network. Still not sure why the software won't boot up but at least I can use the airport with my PC and i tunes now.
The support I got from apple was great!

  • Why won't my downloaded programs run?  I have downloaded Java and a Cardo Scala bluetooth updater, they downloaded, and installed but won't run or be recognized/detected by the respective websites.

I have recently downloaded an "updater" program for my Cardo Scala bluetooth helmet headset and the most recent Java update for OS X 10.6.8  Both times the download was sucessful, when the installer ran, it said it was installed successfully BUT...in both cases it doesn't appear to run.  Both respective websites don't recognize it is loaded on my MacBook Pro.  Am I missing an installation step or have a setting wrong??
    Carl

OK so here we go I installed windows again and everything seems to be working as normal so I put the disc in and I took screen shots but it won't load them for some reason but anyways here it is. These are the files and what happens when I click on them
Audio file     audio files always able to access
    Video file     same as audio
xSprocket     several worksheets and things like that
    xtras          more program files
autorun      when I click on it saws notepad is too small I need a bigger editor
    readme      system requirements
TN_active teach file     when opened on the mac side it says its a powerpc product it won't open and on the windows side it switches to mac and opens stuffit expander (the compression thing I told you about) and then creates a file with nothing in it
TN_active teach application when I open it on windows it says its not a valid win32 application and on mac side it switches to windows and says the same thing
the link you posted BobTheFisherman was very helpful except for the fact that I need to install it first but I tried anyways and the indicated files had not been made yet.
In the end though I've come to the conclusion that it is not a Parallels or mac problem but simply one of the software I'm going to look for other windows programs to test how they work though just to prove my hypothesis I thank both of you for your efforts on helping me.

  • Solaris 8 Installed, but won't run

Im pretty new to UNIX environments, so any advice or help in regard to the problem Im having with Solaris 8 on my Compaq Presario would be much appreciated. It's a 1G Athlon with 128M of memory.
Ive installed the software, though throughout the installation I was only able to get monochrome screens after I got through the monitor/graphics adapter configuration. I have an old 14 inch SVGA 1024x768 monitor (frequency unknown) so I chose the multifrequency monitor at that resolution (interlaced) at a 14 inch screen size and the VGA 16 color graphics adapter, because my Nvidia TNT graphics card isnt supported in the install program. I was then able to see a serviceable display test screen, though the colors were not accurate in every oval.
The installation went smoothly after that, though as I say it was in monochrome without any depth in the graphics.
I can now start Solaris, which proceeds through the Open Desktop Environment 1.4 screen, then freeezes at the screen with the multiple Solaris logos. This is all in monochrome by the way. No color appears. At this point the curser is a fat X (it does move when I move the mouse).
Would I be correct that the problem is likely to be the need for a driver to support the Nvidia card? I found the Sun archive with the correct driver, but all the installation instructions seem to assume that Solaris is running and that I can get to a shell prompt, which if I can do that I dont know how. Is there a boot option I need to use in order to get to a default shell?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
    Paul Berk

Try to boot into single user mode. At the following prompt...
    <pre>
    Boot path: /pci@0,0/pci-ide@7,1/ide@0/cmdk@0,0:a
    Boot args:
    Type b [file-name] [boot-flags] <ENTER> to boot with options

  • Installed flash won't run on Mac OS 10.5.8?

Flash Player 10.3 has stopped working on Safari on our Mac OS x 10.5.8; I have installed/uninstalled it several times but we still get the same message. I have researched this forum and thought I had found success on a question posed Sep 26, 2011, however when went to Safari-Help-Installed Plug ins, there isn't one listed for Flash, so that answer won't solve our problem. Flash Player.plugin and flashplayer.xpt are both listed in library/internet plug-ins folder. Please help!

Have you got the answer to this because I have the same problem!! I use a Mac g4 and have version OSX10.5.8. Until the other day I could use Flash player. I am not an expert but can normally solve most problems. This is driving me mad. Can anyone help?
    Many thanks

  • Flash player is installed but won't run

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Flash player every way I know how, have searched online for fixes, but Flash player just won't work. It shows under add ons as Shockwave, it shows on the list of programs that can be uninstalled, but it does not show up in the "All Programs" list. I've tried uninstall using Windows to uninstall and reinstall, I've tried Revo Uninstaller and reinstalled, I tried CCleaner uninstall and reinstalled,  I've tried uninstall from Adobe site and that didn't work either. I have tried about 8 times, but I can't get it to work. I went through all the info on Adobe Support site to no avail, and yes it is the latest version suffix  Flashplayer 12 with 77 suffix. I checked the Active X script setting per Suppot docs, and that didn't help either.  When I go to Rockler .com and try to load the catalogue it get the error that I need to install Flashplayer, but it looks to be installed, except for not showing on "All Programs" list. Any ideas are appreciated in advance. Am running Win 7, IE10, 64 bit.

I suggest you post in the Flash Player forum, as it is quite different from Adobe Reader, and you need a different group of experts.
Except, I know enough to say: Flash Player won't show up in he All Programs list, it isn't an app.

  • Mac OS X install disc won't run

In Disk Utility, it says that 'Volume Bitmap needs minor repairs' so I need to repair volume. In order for me to repair it in Disk utility I have to start up from the install disc but upon inserting it into the cd drive of my powerbook G4, it fails to run and ejects it after about a minute.
    What shall I do?
    thanks.

Hi nebula32, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Tough without the Install disc or something like DiskWarrior, but some things to try...
Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup, if so try...
    /sbin/fsck -fy
Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.
(Space between fsck AND -fy important).
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Tough without the Tiger Disk problems, but try fsck...
To use fsck, you must run it from the command line. Unlike using your mouse to open an application to do something, you'll need to type a text command at the prompt (#) to tell fsck what to do. The Terminal application (/Applications/Utilities) and single-user mode are two examples of command-line interfaces in which you can type such commands. To use fsck:
    1. Start up your computer in single-user mode to reach the command line. Hold CMD+s keys down at bootup.
Note: If necessary, perform a forced restart as described in the Emergency Troubleshooting Handbook that came with your computer. On desktop computers, you can do this by pressing the reset/interrupt button (if there is one) or holding down the power button for several seconds. On portable computers, simultaneously press the Command-Control-power keys. If your portable computer doesn't restart with this method, you may need to reset the Power Manager.
    2. At the command-line prompt, type /sbin/fsck -fy
(SPACE between fsck AND -fy important)
    3. Press Return. fsck will go through five "phases" and then return information about your disk's use and fragmentation. Once it finishes, it'll display this message if no issue is found:

The volume (nameofvolume) appears to be OK
If fsck found issues and has altered, repaired, or fixed anything, it will display this message:
*** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***

Important: If this message appears, repeat the fsck command you typed in step 2 until fsck tells you that your volume appears to be OK (first-pass repairs may uncover additional issues, so this is a normal thing to do).
    4. When fsck reports that your volume is OK, type reboot at the prompt and then press Return.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more.
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.

  • Install Disc won't run?

My computer ejects the 10.4 install DVD without ever acknowledging it. I've been running 10.2
I have an iMac flat panel with a Superdrive. I installed all firmware and Superdrive updates, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Other DVD's still run too. Just not the Tiger install DVD. Any idea what it could be? Thanks...

  • Satellite L40-17M - new HDD installed, Vista won't run

    Hi guys
I installed a new compatible 500GB Hard drive and using the original toshiba product recovery disc, attempted to install windows vista
It partitioned the drive and got as far as the 'starting windows up for the first time' message and after a minute or so I got this message ...
'Windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computers hard drive'
I attempted the above 3 times with the same result
I'm pressuming the recovery disc will perform a fresh install on a blank hard drive, any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated indeed as I've searched high and low on the internet for answers and have had little luck

    Thank you for your reply
Thankfully I understand full well what compatible means and I have no idea why you are under the impression that my original hdd was 120gb, it was in fact 320gb
There was no problem with connectors, connections or dimensions
The 500gb hdd slotted in perfectly and the laptop is handling the capacity perfectly well
The problem, was as I had suspected with the Toshiba recovery disc
I needed a new install disc, which I obtained, used and activated vista with my product key and my laptop is back up and running and working very nicely indeed after spending most of yesterday downloading updates :)

  • Install problems, won't recognize Mac HD

A few days ago I had a problem with my computer in that it would not startup in "Mac" mode. I have boot camp and it does start up in Windows w/o any problems. So, I reinstalled the software and it still didn't work. I was going to try to reinstall one more time (was going to do an erase and install), but now it won't give me the option of installing on the Mac HD. It only gives me the option of installing on the Windows partition, which is a very small partition on my HD. When I use the option key to start up, it gives me the option of EFI boot or Windows, where it used to say Mac HD or Windows. Is my hard drive dead? I appreciate your help!!

Your GPT (GUID Partition Table) map is hosed.
I hope your data is backed up.
There is a little program called Test Disk that may be able to repair
