MX 440 - getting error on Lego Star Wars Demo - Vertex & Pixel shader?

Hi people,
First time poster!  I have an old-ish card (GeForce MX 440) but it has always worked fine for me until today!
I have downloaded the huge Lego Star Wars Demo after so many positive reviews, but now get the error message:  "Sorry but your machine is unable to run this game.  We require a graphics card which supports vertex and pixel shader 1.1"
Well, I thought my card did... err.. does...  What am I doing wrong!!! Please help me someone! HELP!      Okay Oscar stuff over.  But does anyone know how I can overcome this (short of buying a modern warp driven graphics card)?
Thanks in advance,
RedDavePirate

FAQ
When I try to run the game I get an error message saying "Fatal Error: Your Graphics card does not support Pixel Shader v1.1"
The most likely cause is your video card does not support Pixel Shader 1.1. As it states on the game box, you must have a video card that supports Pixel Shader 1.1 for LEGO: Star Wars to run. Unless you are running an Nvidia GeForce 3 ti, 4 ti, or FX, 6000 or an ATI Radeon 8500, or Radeon 9000 series, or X series card, this game will not run. None of the Nvidia GeForce MX, or GeForce 2/GTS/GO video cards are supported, as they lack the Pixel Shader chip on the card itself. Any ATI Radeon card not listed on the game package will not run LEGO: Star Wars. On-board Intel (82810, 82845, 82845G, 82865G) video chips are not supported, as they lack nearly all the required hardware needed to run LEGO: Star Wars.
***Please note Nvidia TNT cards and ATI Rage cards are also NOT supported***
Please Note: Customers with systems running the Intel 82915G video chip will not be able to play Lego: Star Wars. Although the 915G chipset does support Pixel Shader v2.0, it does not support Hardware Transform and Lighting (T&L). Hardware TnL is a basic DirectX 9.0 function which is not supported by any Intel video chip. As Lego: Star Wars does use Hardware T&L along with Pixel Shader, this game will not run on any Intel Graphics chip.

  • NYKO Air Flow EX and Lego Star Wars

I read the README file that comes on the CD for Lego Star Wars to find out about game controllers. The Apple store had a NYKO Air Flo EX, so I bought it. This controller is specifically listed in the doc and says that no third party support software is required (supposedly works right from the OS drivers).
"The controllers listed above function using the built-in Mac OS X drivers. They do not require any device specific or 3rd party services."
When I start Lego Star Wars, it still only recognizes my keyboard contros. The NYKO controls do nothing. I know the controller is getting power (the fan works) and the NYKO key mapper sees the controller.
Do I have to map keys for this game? I wouldn't think so, from the README. If I do have to map keys, I feel like I've wasted my money on a game controller.

Ok, I answered my own question. The Readme file gives you directions for how to uninstall the application. I wondered if there wasn't a setting in a file somewhere that said I had no controller.
I tried just removing the .plist file from ~/Library/Preferences, but that did not help. The Readme then referenced removing a directory in ~/Library/Application Support. This in error; the directory is actually in your documents directory.
I removed that directory and the application and reinstalled (I think just removing the directory would have been enough). Now the game sees my controller and plays more fun.

  • Lego Star Wars on a MacBook Air

My son got the Lego Star Wars game for Mac and when I tried to download it to his Macbook Air I got the error "can't open app Lego Star Wars because Power PC Applications are no longer supported"  Any ideas? Can I get this to work?

I am able to drag photos from iPhoto to Contacts on my MacBook Air. I resize the iPhoto window to make it smaller, open Contacts, select the Contact in question and click the Edit button at the lower right of the contact. I then drag the photo from iPhoto.
The step that I'm guessing that you might be missing is clicking the Edit button at the lower right of the contact.

  • Have the lego Star Wars complete app, was about 50percent done, all info is missing????

So, I bought the full package for lego Star Wars complete saga app about three weeks ago. Everything has been fine, with about fifty percent of the game completed. Game auto saves. Today, all the data was missing. Any ideas on why and how I can get it back? Kids and myself disappointed.... Thanks!

You may have to make do with the purchase history as is.

  • LEGO Star Wars

I am trying to get a straight answer on what Apple systems are compatible with the LEGO Star Wars game from Aspyr. The Apple web site and the Aspyr web site both suggest that a system with the ATI Radeon 9000 or GeForce FX5200 or better video card is required. Apparently neither my G4 Mac mini nor my Intel Core Duo MacBook can play this game. The Apple web site suggests that the newer Intel Mac mini meets the requirements. My 8 year old would really like to play the game his uncle gave him for his birthday. His 6 year old Windows PC does not meet the requirements for the game and I refuse to purchase another Wincrap PC. Can someone confirm or deny this before I waste my money on a new system? I am hoping an Intel based Mac mini will meet the requirements.
Intel Core Duo MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   macmini G4

The Mac and PC versions are on the same disk. Neither work with any of my current Macs (MacBook and G4 Mac mini) because neither has the requisite video card. The specs from Apple page are:
    http://www.apple.com/games/articles/2005/08/legostarwars/index2.html#reqs
    System Requirements
    * Mac OS X version 10.3.8
    * 1.2GHz PowerPC G4 processor
    * 256MB of RAM (512MB recommended)
    * 32MB Video RAM (Radeon 9000 or GeForce FX5200 or better)
    * 2GB of hard disk space
    * DVD Drive
However, Apple game system page (http://www.apple.com/games/hardware/) has the game listed as compatible with the Intel Mac mini despite the fact that the Mac mini does not appear to have either of these video cards.

  • Wich Mac mini shall i choose if i want it wont lack when doing normal web browsing... and playing games such as lego star wars not that heavy games but still no lack?

which mac mini shall I choose, if I want to play games not that heavy such as Lego star wars, and be able yo do some normal work on Internet, mail... with out it lacks. I do not know which mac mini I shall choose, but I do not want to pay too much it shall just could handle this work.

Right now any should work, but to future proof it a bit I'd get the middle one with the Real Graphic card in it, & upgrade to the 2.7 CPU.

  • LEGO STAR WARS game  & powerbook G4 1.67Ghz- installation problem

I purchased the LEGO Star Wars game to use on my macs. It installs and plays on the G5 Powermac ok but won't install properly on my G4 Powerbook.
I have been in touch with Aspyr the game developer who say they have had no reports of a similar issue. My G4 powerbook is well beyond the spec required to run the game according to Aspyr themselves.
I was just wondering if there is any way of analysing what it is that is stopping the game from installing properly? I have tried setting up a 'clean' user account and installing the game in that accound in case it is some of the software I have on the powerbook which may be conflicting with the installation. Is there a way of trying to work out what the problem is so that I can get this game running?
I have tried using the force as well which seemed appropriate given the nature of the game but the force is not strong in this one!

Mobile GPUs have frequently not had the same power as their desktop counterparts. And based on:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/TE185LL/A
It runs best on a G5, which says to me it is optimized for 64 bit processing. I would ask Aspyr to either rewrite the specs to say whether or not Mobility chips have been tested, and/or say if they think it should run on G4s.
Also, check to see if you have any background tasks, third party peripherals, or wireless connections which may be slowing down your machine. Check your Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Accounts -> select your active account and check your Login items. If there are any there, delete them (don't just uncheck them) and see if it makes a difference.

  • Leopard doesn't work with Lego Star Wars II and ATI graphics?

My son has an iBook G4, and has been running Lego Star Wars II just fine under the latest release of OS 10.4. He just installed Leopard, and now the Lego Star Wars game says that his graphics board isn't enough to run the game. Is there a patch for this? He has a PPC G4 1.42 GHz with 512 MB RAM, ATI Mobility 9550 graphics board with 32 MB RAM. We installed 10.5.1 patch to the OS.
    Any help?

Here are the minimum system requirements for Lego Star Wars II:
    System Requirements
Mac OS X v10.4 or later
    1.6GHz PowerPC or Intel processor
    512MB RAM
    64MB VRAM
    3GB free hard-disk space
    Mouse and keyboard
    DVD drive
As you can see, your son's computer doesn't meet these requirements.
I'm sure he'll be happy when you tell him you have to buy him a new computer to play the game!

  • Lego Star Wars on iBook?

Has anyone played the Lego Star Wars game on the latest iBooks? I am due to buy the 12" 1.33ghz model in the next couple of weeks and my kids really want the Lego Star Wars game. The other 3 Macs we have at home are too slow to support this game, I am looking for anyone who has played it on the latest 12" ibook, 1.33ghz with the ATI 9550 graphics chip. Any comments good or bad are welcome. Was the gameplay smooth? Did it run OK?
    Thanks!

  • What controller do I use with my 15" Macbook Pro Retina to play games like the Lego Star Wars series?

I have a bright and shining new 15" Macbook Pro with Retina display. I did not upgrade the processor or the storage. I want to play games on this great computer, too, games that need a controller . . ie . . The Lego Star Wars series and other action games that require a controller like I use on my X Box 360.
    What works? What works best?

It would help to post this in a more proper form. This is for the iTunes family of stores.

  • LEGO Star Wars II will not copy to hard drive.

First, it takes forever to open the main menu on the desktop. It sounds like it's spinning up and then stops. Spins us and stops. Seriously, it takes over 10 minutes just to open the dvd menu.
Then after all the wheel spinning and noises from the disk drive, when I'm finally trying to copy the application from the DVD to my Applications folder, I receive this message:
The finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "ActDSBTrench.wgt" could not be read or written. (Error code -36).
This is a brand new iMac Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GHz running with all updates on OS 10.4.11. The DVD is Mac compatible and new out of the box.
I am logged in as admin. I've restarted and same thing. Checked software requirements--I'm good.
Could this be a hardware or software issue? A bad disk?
My kids are standing by. Help!

P.S. An addition to the last post. Yes, my kids were in tears before it was finally loaded. If the cleaning does not work, call the tech support in the back of the Star Wars info booklet. There happened to be a smudge of glue of something from the factory on ours, that once removed, the Cd was fine. But we did not notice it until everything was about to be thrown out the window out of frustration.

ron, Welcome to the discussion area!
This is the discussion area for the iMac G4.
You should post your question in the Intel-based iMac discussion area.
It sounds like either the Mac can not read the file from the DVD (perhaps dirty or defective disc) OR you don't have the correct permissions to write the file to the iMac's hard drive. Are you installing it from an admin user or non-admin user?

  • I'm getting error when trying to run demo Serial code

I'm trying to test out the demo of labview to see if we are going to upgrade. I am trying to access the serial ports since we used to do that before, but I'm having no luck with any of the demo code. When I run Serial Communication.vi, it keeps giving me an error. All other demo's I have tried give errors as well, although I don't know if it is the same one. I do not have any conflicts with my com ports, yet I get a -1073807202 err code. Here is the text I get in the error box.
Property Node in VISA Configure Serial Port (Instr).vi->Serial Communication.vi
Any help to get me started? I haven't used labview seriously for about 4-5 years with vers 5.0.
I have win2k in case that makes a difference.
    Thank

Make sure that NI-VISA or the NI-VISA Run-Time Engine is installed on the computer. This error suggests that NI-VISA is not installed, or there is a problem with the installation. To remedy this, uninstall any existing versions of NI-VISA on the machine. Then, either reinstall the same version of NI-VISA, or upgrade to the latest version of NI-VISA (linked below).
