MX won't display CSS in Design View

I built a site for a client using CSS for the layout. The
client wants to do her own updates with Dreamweaver MX. We've found
that the layout does not show in Design View, so she's doing minor
updates in code view (which she's comfortable with).
A secod site she manages was done with tables and displays
properly in Design View.
Can I assume that the problem is just that MX does not
display CSS layout? She needs an answer so she can ask her boss to
spend the money for an upgrade.

Yes .. I agree. :)
However .. I would still recommend Contribute for a
non-webpro.

  • CSS and Design View

I have used Dreamweaver since v3 and CSS for 4 years.
Previously I have had no difficulty seeing the result of my linked
style sheet in the design view when viewing an html page. I have
recently updated to Dreamweaver 8.02. I also use Style Master 4.51
for CSS work. Could either of these be influencing the application
rendering the css in design view or is it something else? Any
    ideas?

    From your main Dreamweaver menu:
    View > Style Rendering
Make sure you have not inadvertantly turned off style
    rendering.

  • Display Html screen, design view and CSS screen at the same time ?

    Hello everyone !
Well this is my problem :
I am on a Dual Screen monitor, in one screen i have the ''code inspector'' to view my html code and the second screen i have the Design view.
Problem is,  i hate switching always my tabs when I need to work on my Html and my CSS.
I was wondering if anyone found a way to display, i don't know maybe 2 code inspector or simply find a way to split the screen so I can see html and css at the same time ?
    Thanks a lot !
    Nick

If you're using Dreamweaver CS4, this is very easy. View the HTML in the Code Inspector, and have Vertical Split view in the main Document window. In the Related Files toolbar, select the stylesheet.

  • CSS Styles not displayed properly in design view - SOLVED (not 'Display Styles')

For several weeks, I've been troubleshooting the issue of CSS
and inline styles not being displayed properly when in Dreamweaver
CS3 design view, and checking in to the forums occassionally to see
if there was a solution other than making sure "Display Styles" was
selected under View -> Style Rendering (it was, and still
    nothing would display properly!).
After much frustration, I may have found the solution to
those still experiencing the issue even after "Display Styles" is
appropriately checked. I went in to my master template for the
site, and found an erroneous <br> tag after the <link
href> for the stylesheet, which I must have inadvertantly
inserted when I added the code for the site's favicon. (You get so
used to Shift-Enter in layout mode, it's almost automatic,
regardless of what pane your in.) I can't believe I missed this
before! Deleting the erroneous tag cleaned up the whole
    site.

I had the same thing happen to me. After hours of trouble
shooting I found a bit of inappropriate code left in the HTML.
Cleaned that up and all is good. Seems like it is often something
so simple. Guess that is why it is so maddening when i can't figure
    it out!

  • Display issue in Design view

:confused; I'm working in Dreamweaver 8 (Windows XP). I'm
using the 2col_leftNav.css (tweaked somewhat) for my pages. I'm
having some problems with the display in Design view.
For quite some time, whenever I entered new text into a page,
everything in the div (content > feature) shifted to the right.
If I italicized or bolded the text, everything would shift back
into position. If I changed it back into normal font, it stayed in
place until I added more content. Quite annoying, but I managed.
Something that just started (taking over the previous issue,
with no apparent reason/causal factor): the content > feature
div has shifted to the left, overlapping the left column
navigation. I haven't found anything that will make things shift
back into place. This is very hard to read, and makes working in
    design view almost impossible.
Any idea what is going on here and what I can do about
    it?

You forgot to post the url so we really can't say.
This is something that presents itself ONLY in Dreamweaver.
When I look at the file in a browser, it looks fine. When I post
the page to the internet, it's fine. The issue is just in editing
    the page in Dreamweaver.
However, if you'd like to see some pages where this issue
presented itself during construction, you can see them at

  • Snippets not displayed in Topic (Design View)

    I have RoboHelp 7.0.2.
This "snippets" problem started a few days ago. I use the
same 2 snippets in about 100 topics. Suddenly, the snippets stopped
getting displayed in the topics (Design View). I don't see the
snippets even when I click the eye glasses icon for a preview.
However, if I switch to HTML View, the code does confirm that
    the snippets are there.
This problem started happening around a few days after I
started having version control issues with RH. My project is
version controlled (Sourcesafe) so I have always checked in/out
topics for working. But nowadays, after a few hours of RH being
open, it just messes the version control part. That is, it will not
let me edit topics that I have checked out myself telling me that
the file is already checked out. And at times, it won't even check
    in my files.
I thought maybe my RH install is corrupt so I just
reinstalled RH (7.0.2). However, I still cannot see the snippets.
Not sure about the version control part since I haven't kept RH
    open for a long time.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    K

The issue that I am having is that when I renamed the
snippet, only two topics accepted kept the snippet and allowed it
to remain (with the new name). The other 100 topics showed that I
had a snippet (even though you couldn't see it), but in the
tooltip, showed the previous name I named the snippet. I went back
to the snippet and renamed it back to the old name - which oddly
this time, the two topics that were accepting the snippet as any
name, did not take and the snippet was there, but would not appear.
I guess this is a little glitch in the renaming snippet
function. I can't think of anything else??? Anyway, I kept the
original name (although, another odd thing is this isn't the
original - this is another one I changed it to) and removed the
snippet that wasn't appearing from the two topics and reinserted it
again. I guess it's better than reinserting it 100 times.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
    Thanks,
    Michele

  • Designing with CSS in Design View

Hey guys, I'm working on learning CSS. One problem I'm having
is that while I'm working on the code, what shows in the design
view in dreamweaver isn't the same, (not even close), to what it
looks like in any browser. For example the location of a div will
    be totally different.
It seems like it would be very hard to design this way. Why
doesn't dreamweaver attempt to reflect what it looks like in one of
the browsers. Is this just the way it is when designing with css?
If so, how the heck do people do it? Do you just have to keep
previewing the site every time you change the css?
    Using dreamweaver MX
    thanks, mike

  • Upgrade work better w/ css in design view?

I have DW8. With css based pages it sometimes is quite

  • .php files won't show up in design view?

    Hi there,
I'm a pretty experienced dreamweaver user, using for 3 years,

Not a good answer, and no explanation:
I have noticed this too. But if you create a brand new doc
    and select
the php option in the window that asks which kind you want,
    then copy
and paste the essential code into it, it'll work. Probably
    completely
wrong, but it's as if DW "remember" a file a html once that's
    the file
you selected, regardless of which extension you eventually
    give it....
    something like that...
That won't work either, if I click new .php file it still
wont let me view it in design view..

  • DW won't highlight properly in design view

When working in design view I can't get photos to highlight or divs to activate quickly. It's taking me twice as long to work because in order to get the elements active my work around is to put it in inspect mode then select element, take it back out and then it is hit or miss whether or not the handle bars or activation boxes light up. Sometimes it takes me 5 or 6 try's. If anyone knows a solution I would greatly appreciate help.
    Thank you,

You click anywhere in design view and then look at the bottom left screen and you will see something like this:
Now if you click on <p>, your paragraph will be highlighted.  If you click on <section> your entire contents of section will be highlighted.  Hope this gives you the idea.
This is only possible in Design View.  Code view will not help you here.  Split view might be another option to try it.
    Good luck.

  • DW8 - won't display CSS layout

I've just started a new website in DW and the layout isn't
being renderred within DW but works fine in the browser.
My div colours are displaying with no problems but the widths

All my visual aids are on so can't understand why.

  • Native Inspect Element tool won't display CSS/elements along right-side of window anymore.

I recently updated to Firefox 20.0 and noticed that the native Inspect Element tool doesn't have an option to display the page css elements along the right-side of the window like it used to.
Is there a button somewhere I'm missing that allows this view?
I also noticed that I cannot hit escape to exit the inspector anymore.
Why would this option have been removed?
Screenshot of the issue explained a little better... http://exceptionalsheet.com/error.jpg

I agree with all the above - it's utter shite now. Before it was elegant and useful, now it's a waste of space.
How can I downgrade until those morons in your design department work this out?

  • Photos (JPGs) won't display in Finder Icon view

Ever since upgrading, many folders (including new ones that I create on my Desktop and elsewhere) have problems displaying JPGs that are added to the folder when using icon view (thumbnails). Basically, the window appears empty. If I change the view to list, column, or cover flow, then they appear fine. This has happened with about 80% of my folders.
Anyone else have this issue? Any known fixes?
It drives me crazy since I use the thumbnail (icon) view all of the time and never had problems with Mavericks.
The only workaround (which works sometimes) is to copy all of the JPGs to another folder. This seems to regenerate the thumbnails for some reason. But later the same folder ceases to work again. So I'm not sure what is going on. Using a mid 2012 macbook pro retina, 2.7 i7 and 16GB of RAM.
Apple needs to fix this if it is a widespread problem.

Great suggestion! Unfortunately it didn't make any difference.
However, I have more details on this bizarre issue:
If I reboot the Mac (safe mode or regular mode), the icons do appear. But if I copy or move the files to a new folder, they are invisible again.
Also, if I copy the folder full of JPGs into a new folder, then open the new folder, the subfolder is also hidden in icon view.
If I choose Edit > Select All, the Finder window shows the correct quantity of files in the folder that are selected (even though they are all invisible).
I've tried changing from discrete to integrated graphics, changing the display resolution, but so far nothing works (except the temporary fix of rebooting).

  • Site recently hacked, now FF won't display css style - other browsers will

So my site beaq.org.au was recently hacked - a phishing attack. A .php file was uploaded to the css directory it seems. My host promptly removed the css directory, and I replaced it with a backed up css directory. Problem solved! (or so I would have hoped)...
This did solve the problem in all browsers I have tested in - except Firefox. The site looks as it should in safari, IE, chrome etc. CSS style is used, but FF won't use it. I believe this is a result of the site being reported as an attack site...for example, if I choose preferences > security and then uncheck "Block reported web forgeries", then reload the page - it loads as it should.
I have requested removal from the forgery list here: http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/report_error/?tpl=mozilla
And the site is not listed as containing malware in Google Webmaster tools. So nothing to do there.
Is it simply a matter of waiting till firefox recognises the site as not being a web forgery or containing malware? Is there something else that can be done to resolve problem? Or is there something that could be done to expedite the removal from FF's list of phishing / attack sites?
It's been over a week already and still waiting. Not a good look having a website that is completely messed up. Thanks for your help in advance!

I hadn't checked that link, but I can confirm that the CSS file isn't loaded because of a block via the phishing protection.<br />
Google Chrome doesn't even open the main page and immediately shows the phishing warning page.
    <blockquote>Warning: Suspected phishing site!<br />
The website at www.beaq.org.au has been reported as a “phishing” site. Phishing sites trick users into disclosing personal or financial information, often by pretending to represent trusted institutions, such as banks.</blockquote>
