MX200 "locking" Windows 7 64-bit system

I'm really struggling here! I'm running Windows 7 64-bit on a 250Mb MX200 as C: boot drive and I'm having a nightmare! It started when shutting the system down a couple of nights ago. Took about 15 minutes to log-off the user (me!) and then shut down fast. Now my system locks up at the slightest thing. I'm typing this but Windows Explorer has disappeared (no task bar, totally blank desktop). I've got Task Manager running (seems a permanent item at the moment), but it can't find windows.exe to run. I've got Crucial SSD tools just hang with the arrow circling. I've installed the Crucial Storage Executive (the install worked) but it won't run; the browser window opens and then I've got the circling arrow again. There was a big Windows Update the other night following which I "lost" the DVD R/W device. This re-appeared after a couple of reboots, but any attempt to access the device causes this hang. I'm now going to have to shut down my PC. I think I'll reconnect the "good old" HDD, allow the Windows Update again and restart SSD installation and cloning over again. Any suggestions to prevent this happening again will be gratefully received. David

I don't really know what I've done, but everytthing seems to be working! I reconnected the HDD C: drive and booted from it. As before little would work that involved accessing the SSD drive (other than "My Computer"); Partition Magic wouldn'r run; Windows Disk Manager just displayed "connecting ..."; etc. I did update a couple of progams that requested updating but, other than that, I did nothing. In desperation, I decided to power down; disconnect the SSD and reboot from the HDD again to see if things would then work. After sitting watching the "Shutting Down" screen for about 15+ minutes, I left the room for a couple of minutes and came back to discover the PC had rebooted (I'm sure I asked it to shut down) and, of course, to the SSD C: drive. Well. Everything seemed to work - Partition Magic, Windows Disk Manager, etc. So I tried loading Crucial Storage Executive. It worked! And told me there was a firmware update available. I followed the instructions, the update was downloaded and I rebooted; the Firmware update went through OK; the PC rebooted to the SSD; new drivers were installed and everything still worked. Except my DVD R/W drive disappeared! So, I shut down, disconnected the HDD C: drive and rebooted. Everything working well. I've now rebooted several times without any long delays, my DVD R/W has reappeared and work. So, at this moment, I'm a "happy chappy"!! But I've no idea what, if anything, I've done to fix the problem. David PS Apologies for all the waffle!

Can't install itunes on windows 64 bit system

I tried to install itunes on my 64 bit machine, but with verson 6.0.5, it says this software doesnt support 64 bit systems. I tried to install an earlier version i think its 6.0.4.2 not sure, but it does install on my computer. When I try to open the program and quicktime, I get error box saying the program had a problem and couldn't open. Is there anyway to fix this problem, and is there a way to have the newest version of itunes to work on windows 64 bit?

iTunes and QuickTime have never been supported on the 64-bit version of Windows (look here for the official statement). Some people have managed to get it working (at least tolerably), but from what I've read, a recent update from Microsoft has caused a lot of problems. You might try rolling back recent Windows updates and see if you can get things working again.

MSComDlg.ICommonDialog Problem with Windows 64-bit system

Hi all!
I try to use the common Windows dialog box for saving files. For this I'm using the ActiveX-class "MSComDlg.ICommonDialog" with the propertynode input "Filter" for the file types. It's the standard "SaveAsType.vi" (somewhere in the forum).
Everything works fine on a 32-bit Windows system. But when I run the code on a 64-bit system I can not save my file with the last file-extension in the box field. I always get a error-message: "The file name is invalid!" This happens only when the last box-element is selected. All other run normal.
So for example:
If may box array is
Matlab Files (*.mat)|*.mat
Text Files (*.txt)|*.txt
Excel Files (*.xls)|*.xls
and I select to save as *.xls and write as filename "Hello" in, I get on the 64-bit machine the error:
"Hello
The file name is invalid"
When I change the order of the box array *.xls will go but the new last element will produce this error.
So, can someone help me?

P.S. I'm using Win 7 64bit with labview 9 32bit. exe tested on win7 64 bit and win xp 32 bit.

My Windows 64 bit system won't recognize my ipod/itunes...

I am using Windows 7... My brother and I also share the same computer, and our music libraries are quite different. I do not know if that has anything to do with it or not. I've tried removing the software and reinstalling it, but it doesn't always work.
WOW, the program has been removed from my PC... and while I was typing this, the itunes sync page popped up! I don't know what is happening, I just want to listen to music.
Help me please.

Need help networking a photosmart 7960 to a windows 7 64 bit system from an XP Home 32 bit

I'm trying to network an HP photosmart 7960 to a wireless notebook with Win 7 64 bit where the printer is connected via usb to a windows home 32 bit computer. Have downloaded vista 64 bit drivers for the printer but can't install them on the windows 32 bit system. Have installed the drivers on the win 7 system but can't locate the inf file when trying to add a network printer. Any help would be appreciated.

I sympathize with your dilemma. I have the same situation. I have a Media Center 2002XP SP3 desktop with 3 printers connected. Photosmart 7960, PSC 750xi all in one, and a Deskjet 870cse(a vintage 1996). I just purchased a HP dv7-3188cl notbook WIN7 64bit. My home network has worked flawlessly for years, with at least 4 wired and 3 wireless computers connected, networking 6 printers.
I have resolved my network problems with the printers. They are connected to the host machine running MC2002 XP SP3. I tried to install the printers through the network wizard by adding the printers through WIN7. Only the 14 year old printer installed successfully. The photosmart 7960 and PSC 750xi did NOT. Windows Update could not find the drivers for the install. None are available on HP website either.
After some web research, I have solved my problems. At first, I followed the add printer protocol from the WIN7 laptop. Error messages resulted and the USB printers would not install error0x00000214. The USB printers failed to install while connected to the host XP machine. The 870cse is on LPT1 and it did network successfully when attached to the host XPcomputer.
The drivers needed for the 7960 and 750xi (and probably many other HP printers) will install if you connect the printer to the WIN7 machine and follow the setup. Windows update will load the needed drivers if they are available. I sucessfully installed both printers on the WIN7 notebook, printed a test page on each, and printed other docs from the WIN7 notebook while they were connected to the WIN7 notebook. These drivers are 64bit. Both printers worked well when connected via USB to the WIN7 machine.
I then disconnected the printers from the WIN7 notebook and reconnected them to the original host XP desktop.
With the host desktop running, and the notebook running wirelessly, I went to (on WIN7) START--Devices and Printers.
Click ADD A PRINTER at the top of the window, then click LOCAL PRINTER ( NOT network!!!)
Then in the following Printer port window choose 'CREATE A NEW PORT--SELECT LOCAL PORT amd click next.
In the Port name box, enter the name of the port, ie the path. For example if the host machine with the printers attached is named WINXPMACHINE (as named on the network), enter \\WINXPMACHINE\ Then add immediately after that the Printer's name as it is on the XP machine( right click the printer in the Printer and Fax folder on the XP machine, select sharing and find the network share name for the printer). It may look like \\WINXPMACHINE\Printerx where x is a number corresponding to the printer. Then click next and OK
The next box asks to choose the printer from a list. Select the printer you want to network( I have only done this with HP printers) and click next
The next dialogue box asks to use the driver currently installed(recommended)--click next -- do NOT replace the driver( it was installed when the printer was directly connected to your WIN7 machine) Type in the name you want to use to identify the printer on your WIN7 machine. The printer will install. Print a test page to confirm installation.

LR 3.6 has serious limitations causing what should be an easy task hours to trouble shoot. Exporting original size JPEG images to DVD should be a no brainer but the application was not built to handle MS OS 7 64bit. Choice is to upgrade to LR v 4 but will it work?

To the OP: if by 'serious limitations' you simply mean the lack of a dedicated export preset on Windows 64 bit systems to allow a direct export to a CD/DVD drive using LR3:
1. Agreed, there is no dedicated CD/DVD export preset, but there is a simple workaround. Just use the standard Hard Drive preset and in the Export Location box use Specific Folder for "Export to:", then click on "Choose" and select your CD/DVD burner from the browser window that opens. Simple.
2. I can confirm that in LR4 there is a dedicated CD/DVD export preset.

It's impossible to install Windows 64 Bits on my Macbook Pro, why?

I was tryng for three days to install Windows (8 and 7 after) 64 bits version on my Macbook Pro and I can tell you that It's impossible...
It's doesnt matter what I do, the PC does not recognize the bootable disk or usb for Windows.
I followed these steps:
- I downloaded the Windows 7 official ISO image to burn a DVD Setup after use the Boot Camp Assistant.
- When I used the Boot Camp Assistant, I tried to "Download the latests Windows support software from Apple" but 2 minutes after I chose that option, the assistant alert me that the Server doesn't have the files anymore... so I had to simply use the install option BUT it requires that I put the Windows Installation CD on my PC and when I put it on it... the PC doesnt recognize it! My "solution": I mount a Virtual Drive with the ISO image of the DVD and now my Mac recognize the Installation CD so I can continue with the installation...
- After that the PC was restarted and thats the last step that I reach because when It's tryng to start with the Installation Drive it's doesn't recognize... again!! A black screen appears with a text that say "Insert a bootable drive and press any key"... or something like that.
So I'm stuck in this step because I was tryng to use another Installation CDs, burning it again and again, tryng with Windows 8 too and nothing happens.
I tried to make an USB Bootable too but my Boot Camp Assistant doesnt have any option to make it (I read that some macbooks have an a 3rd option in his Boot Camp Assistant that prepare a USB with the ISO of any Windows Installation CD) so obviously whitout it was completely useless.
I was tryng to make a bootable dvd with UDF format (cause I read that if the cd is not in that format It doesnt be recognize in Mac as a bootable drive...).
What can I do? I know that Windows 32 Bits Systems run on my Mac but It should support 64 Bits Systems too (I was reading the compatibility of Boot Camp and Windows versions and It should run!).

After rebooting my Windows Vista 64 bit system, could not access iTunes; after uninstalling I tried reinstalling, but it has been running for more than 24 hrs. Should I cancel installation?

I had been updating my Windows Vista 64 bit system and as a result of a problem, had to reboot my system. Afterwards, I was no longer able to access iTunes. I got a message stating that there was a problem with some of the files associated with the application. A phone rep at Apple's Customer Service provided me with emails linking instructions on completely uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. I did the uninstall, then checked for lingering iTunes files and couldn't completely remove some, but tried intalling the latest version of iTunes. It has been running for roughly 24 hours. The status bar is green all the way across, and when I try to cancel, I get the following message: "Are you sure you want to cancel iTunes installation?" I keep hitting "no," but am staring to wonder if there is a problem with the install. Should it take this long if I have roughly 134 gigs of music? I can still see the music in my computer's C drive, so I am worried that there is an error, perhpas because I didn't clear out all the lingering C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\ and all the lingering C:\Program Files\iTunes\. Any thoughts?

It is not just the HP. I have 3 HP computes and 2 Dell computers. 2 of the HP and 1 Dell suffer the iTunes internet block. Took me a while to figure it out also. But, the one thing that is different on the Dell, is that I can leave iTunes installed and not open it and everything works. As soon as I open it, internet access goes down. On my Dell Latitude D620, Windows XP 32 bit system and my 6510 printer wireless connection (Linksys EA4500) , everything works fine after the computer is booted. After a period of time (usually overnight), I lose connection to the printer (the scanner icon with a red x is shown on my Windows task bar and I can't print. Ran Windows Fix and the HP fix programs. The only thing that solves it is to reboot the computer. A second symptom is that my IE8 stops connecting to the internet at the same time (gives a 'waiting for' response that never changes). Firefox still connects OK when this is happening. So I suspect the problem isn't with the printer, but with my Windows set up. It is a fresh XP SP3 install (hard drive crashed, but it happened before also). I reset IE, checked my proxy, no malware, happens with or without firewalls and security programs.
Hoping that someone else has run into this problem. Been all over Google, and the IE doesn't work / Firefox works is fairly common, but none of the fixes helps.

Just reinstall your choice of FF. The bookmarks are in a different directory and are NOT overwritten. Some of the Add-ons that worked in 3.6 DO NOT work with 4.0, pay attention and head any warnings when you start 4.0.

Unable to install iTunes 10.5.0.142 on Windows 7 64 bits system

I am not able to install the latest version of itunes, version 10.5.0.142, released by Apple last week.
I think it is important to note that there are three pending updates on my system (Windows 7, 64 bit), which keep on failing again and again no matter what the mode of update (manual via microsoft website or automatic via the program provided by microsoft). These are:
1. Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2556532)
2. Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538242)
3. Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538243)
The methods that I have tried to install the latest version of itunes (all have failed as of now):
a. Automatic via the previous version of itunes. This tries to download and install itunes in parts, but ultimately leads to the error originally pointed in this thread. Failed.
b. Uninstalling the previous version of itunes completely as mentioned here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 and also using Microsoft Fixit and then trying to install the new version. Failed.
c. Uninstalling all but apple software update, and then trying to update manually from the software update file available in c:\Program Files (x86)\Apple Software Update folder. Failed.
d. Uninstalling all the versions of visual c++ (2005 and 2008), and then trying to install the latest version of itunes. Then re-installing the latest versions of c++ (2005, 2008 and 2010) along with updates but three as pointed above, and then trying to install the latest version of itunes. Failed.
e. I have tried various permutations and combinations of keeping the firewall, antivirus and even the internet off and on. Failed.
The combination of errors that I have received:
- An error occurred during the installation of assembly ‘Microsoft.VC80.CRT,version=“8.0.50727.6195″,type=“win32,publicKeyToken=“1fc8b3 b9a1e18e3b”,processorArchitecture=“x86”. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x80073712
- Error 7 indicating installation of microsoft .net framework 4.0 for me (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3074) and
- Error 2 - "Apple Application Support was not found. Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again. Error 2 (Windows error 2)
However, I have seen on some websites that people have been able to install the latest version of itunes on their windows 7 64 bits system (surprising, but yeah).
I would appreciate any pointers as to:
?1 How do I install the latest version of itunes on my system.
?2 If the steps are not included in the solution to ?1, how do I update 1., 2., and 3. mentioned above.
?3 If I am able to install itunes 10.5.0.142 on my windows 7 64 bit, would I be able to successfully my iPad2 to iOS5?

I should have posted this earlier, but anyway. I restored my laptop to factory version after backing up any useful data, and the first thing I the laptop was restored was connect to the internet, download and install the latest version of iTunes. And Bingo! It worked.

WIndows 7 64-bit system printing to a Windows 2000 server configured as a print server

Is there any way to configure a new Windows 7 64-bit computer to use a Windows 2000 server configured as a print server ?
The printer that I would like to connect to is an HP 4240n LaserJet. I appears that there is only a 64-bit Universal Print Driver available. The server currently uses HP 32-bit PCL5e or PCL6 drivers for all other connected computers. Connection is through a Hewlett-Packard Network Port, using DLC/LLC transport for the embedded 4240n print server.
Installing the HP 64-bit UPD to the WIndows 7 64-bit system, and then attempting to redirect the local port to the Win2k network print server has not worked.

See if this works...
Run msconfig.
In the System Configuration screen, Boot tab, Advanced Options, if there is a check mark in the box next to Maximum memory. Remove that checkmark and save your changes.
Reboot and hopefully Windows recognises all the Ram ( minus the reserved ) after restarting.
Please give that a try, and post back and let us know if that frees up some system memory for you.

How do I retrieve a hWnd required to draw an image created by an ActiveX object on a windows 7 64-bit system?

I'm calling to the NaturalPoint Optitrack SDK using activex controls and am trying to pull tracking data from a trackIR 5. I have connected to the camera and wanted to start by just viewing a captured frame. The Optitrack COM provides a function to draw the frame, but needs a hWnd handle for a window to draw to. I tried to call FindWindow from the user32.dll, but only found FindWindowA, FindWindowExA, FindWindowW, and FindWindowExW. I'm using Labview 8.6 (32-bit) on a Windows 7 64 bit system (trying to figure out how access the universities liscense manger to install LV2010 64 bit). Thanks

The other functions are variants, depending on how you're dealing with strings:
FindWindowW : Unicode names
FindWindowA: ANSI names
FindWindowEx: Searches child windows for the window that has the specified name. You can provide a parent window handle as a starting point. The "A" and "W" follow the same Unicode/ANSI names as FindWindow.
You'd want to use FindWindowA or FindWindowExA since LabVIEW doesn't support Unicode.

Crystal Reports XI R2 SP2 on Windows Server 2008 ( 32 bit system)

I am trying to run a .NET application on a windows server 2008( 32 bit system) with Crystal Reports X1 R2 SP2 installed.
The application does not run and throws the following error in the event log.
Faulting application w3wp.exe, version 7.0.6002.18005, time stamp 0x49e023cf, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x00000000, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0171ab98, process id 0x%9, application start time 0x%10.
The same application runs fine on a windows server 2003.Also, the same application runs fine, when i remove the crystal reports code. It loads the .NET pages fine.
Please suggest me if i am missing something. Please let me know how can i debug this issue?
