MXF (Canon c300) to DPX

Hi
How do i get all the information from a MXF file through to the DPX export inside Premiere??
Right now all the extra hightligh detail there is in the MXF files is cutted.
If i export as a mxf the detail/data survives.
I quess its some kind of video vs data settings?

First, you need to download the Canon XF Log and Transfer plugin...
http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0040354.asp?model=
Then you need to watch this:
http://library.creativecow.net/ross_shane/tapeless-workflow_fcp-7/1
Back up the FULL CARD...that is step one to the process.  Maintain the full card structure.  Oh, just watch the video.

    Russ and Luis,
I did uninstall and re-install Canon XF Utility and the Canon FCPX plug in.   Still no luck.  I checked the CanonXF64.RADPlug folder is on my computer in the Rad Plugins folder in application support  This is where it is supposed to be as far as I can figure out.
Another piece of the puzzle is that  footage shot on a Canon C300 in 2013 and  I reimported today and it DOES import into FCP10.1.3.   Footage shot on a different Canon C300 filmed this summer will NOT import into FCPX.  The latter will import into Premiere. But I am trying to work in FCPX, but maybe I shouldn’t be??
    Any ideas?  (screen shots below)
    Thanks.
    Peace, Huey
FYI Here is what Canon says
"There is another trick that works sometimes though.  Try uninstalling the plugin and XF Utility.  Then, install the latest XF Utility, followed by the plugin, in that order."
I did do this but no results.  Otherwise they say I need to wait for a new plugin.
Here's 2014 Canon C300 files does NOT import to FCPX
Here's 2013 Canon C300 files does import into FCPX.  I thought it was Contents folder but another set of footage shot on C300 does import and there is no contents folder for that.

  • HT1338 FCP Studio convert MXF Files (Canon C300)

Anyone have a suggested method for converting MXF files shot with a Canon C300 for use with FCP Studio 7.
    Thanks!

You can convert the Canon C300 mxf footage to the other common format, like MOV, ProRes MOV as that format is easy to import and edit on Final Cut Pro 7. For convert the Canon C300 MXF to ProRes mov, have two software for your choice:
    1. Canon XF Plugin for Final Cut Pro : http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0040354.asp?model=
    2. A Converter : Google ....
But use Canon XF Plugin for Final Cut Pro seems that some frames were dropped when transcoded to ProRes 422. So the best way is convert Canon XF300 MXF to ProRes 422 MOV by a mxf converter. ( You can download try this : converter )

  • Problems reconnecting media with Canon C300 MXF files

Working from Canon C300 MXF files imported into up to date premiere cc (not sure if through the media browser or through the import function). We have three stations working (one AE station and two edit bays) but only two stores of the media so we've been backing up the media onto a third drive so our other editor can work. No problems with the first editor station and AE station, they both have all the media. Our third station however...
Basically the issue we're having is certain files won't reconnect to their MXFs, even though we've maintained the file structure and all associate canon files in their folders. We're getting diagonal shading across the clips in the timeline as well as the little triangle in the corner of the clip that signifies it's the end (and sometimes beginning) of the media. When we try to play those clips they are just a black screen. But when we try to match frame, it'll bring up the clip in the viewer and play fine. The media is not technically "offline," just not playing. When I try to reconnect the media I have to make it offline first and then reconnect but continue to have the same problem. It seems like an issue with merging the spanned clip across multiple .mxf files because there's no issue with clips that are not spanned. I tried isolating the individual clips from the .xml files that tell premiere to merge them and they reconnect fine up until the end of that file and then I've got diagonal lines for the rest of the clip again. I've tried everything I can think of and we're wasting so much money on this second editor not being able to work on anything because of this. Any insight would be most appreciated.

Ah I see, I read through your link, I get that reverting could help except that all our other stations are running 7.2.2 so we'd have incongruity between stations. Whats strange is the other two stations are running fine, no problems. It's just with this other station that doesn't have all the media that's having the issue.

  • Premiere cs6/cc confusing spanned-clips Canon C300

    Hey
    Bit of a strange one...
We have Adobe Creative Cloud installed on 5 suites (resently updated to CC from CS6) when using CS6 we had a problem when ingesting footage from the Canon C300. When ingesting spanned clips CS6 seems to get the order of the clips mixed up, so the start of the clip will be around the middle. There is no jump in the timecode, so it would appear CS6 is just placing the spanned video files around the wrong way, but the metadata (where a assume the timecode is stored) is correct.
I thought upgrading to CC would solve this but it appears it hasn't. I just installed CC on my home machine which has never had CS6 on it and this probelm hasn't occurred, which meant when I opened up an edit that I started at work it had all been shifted around! Very Annoying!!!
Has anyone came across the same issue?? Seems strange it has happen on all our machines. I've tried uninstalling CS6 and then install CC but doesn't seem to work, would appricate any help on this
    Thanks
    Chris

    Hi,
just to underline your point: we have had the same issues since CS6 and it persists until today (CC 7.01).
What makes things even stranger is that I had a 55 min+ clip (from a Canon C300), spanned into 11 MXF segments.
When I imported it via the Media Browser from a portable hard drive it came in as a single clip maintaining the correct order of the segments. I then copied the hard drive's contents to our SAN (maintaining the file structure, of course).
Then I imported the clip again, it came as one clip like before - but the order of the segments within the clip was completely random, every 5:15 min there was a visible "cut" within the clip.
So maybe PPro uses some hidden metadata of the files to determine their order and those metadata get lost on their way to the SAN. I can only speculate.
I tried creating new projects, using a windows machine instead of a Mac, but to no avail.
Our temporary (yet annoying) solution is to "destroy" the files structure and then import and concatenate the segments manually.
    Are you on a SAN?

  • Convert files from Canon C300

    Hi,
I want to convert files from Canon C300, but i can only import one by one file. Is it possible ti import all in the same time?
The Canon C300 files are encapsulated, i just have access to MXF file when i open folder by folder.
    I'm in iMac, Yosemite.
    Thanks,
    Lise

Thank you for the reply.  I have struggled with this problem for about 6 weeks.  Got bum information from both Canon and Adobe.  Grew discouraged.
As a “test” after reading the discussion, I downloaded the trial version of Elements 10.  It contained RC 6.6, which would not do the S100.  I “updated”
to 6.7 which finally did the job.  I’m really curious as to why the download of Elements 10 doesn’t “ship” with the latest RC?  I guess just to maintain
confusion for as long as possible.
Thanks again.  Only your reply enabled a final solution.

  • Porblems importing Canon C300 footage into Premiere Pro CC 2014: only import 30 seconds

Hi! I'm having problems importing Canon C300 footage into Adobe Premiere Pro 2014. I'm taking the files directly from the media browser to I can only import the first 30 seconds of each clip.
Why can be that? Do I need a specific plugin?
    Thaks for your help

Since you did not perform the copy process yourself, my thinking is that maybe something went wrong when it was done.  Far too many people don't understand or follow the process that works.
My recommendation would be to get your hands on the cards and do it again, making sure to use only Explorer or Finder for the task.

  • Canon C300 "Highspeed" footage Playback in Premiere Pro CC

    Hey,
I did the other day some tests with the highspeed/slowmotion function of the Canon C300. The highspeed function of the camera is relative (up to 50fps), but it's a nice effect. Anyway, the camera was set up correctly (project framerate 25fps & recording/sensor 50fps), but I am having problems playing the "slowmotion" footage back in Premiere. Basically, Premiere Pro is playing back the footage in 50fps(which makes the slowmotion effect obsolet) even though the sequence settings are set to 25fps.
    Any ideas or similiar problems?

select clip in bin and choose Clip>Modify>Interpret Footage>Assume this frame rate and enter 25fps.  Should play back at correct speed for slow motion now.

  • Canon C300 MFX files into Premier Pro CC

VERY new to post production, I just want to check to make sure that I am not missing a step somewhere.
I have created a project, then I went to Media Browser and clicked on the individual MFX files. Premier seems to have taken them all into the project with no problem.
I just want to make sure that I am not missing a step, say in the "create a sequence" section. Do I even need to "create a sequence"?
    Thanks,
    Way

Premier Pro will automatically take the MFX files created by the Canon C300 and optimize them when bringing them in through the media browser?
Not quite.  PP doesn't actually do anything but read the media.  But...that's OK because the files don't really need any kind of 'optimizing'.

  • FCPX and Canon C300

Ok... I just downloaded the XF plugin for FCPX for the Canon C300 and now FCP wont even go into the file directory on my CF card... which it did prior to downloading form canon. (It just wouldnt recognise the files in the folder system... now it wont even go in... ***?)
    errrmmm... help?

Stand down red alert!!  got it figured out... you don't import them as files... you download from the camera even though the camera is not plugged in and it is only a card in a reader.

  • Problem importing canon c300 mxf files into Premiere Pro CC 2014

I recently shot some footage with a c300 at 24fps, slog2, 2 audio chanels. I copied the "contents" folder of each cf card to my macbook pro hard drive by dragging across in finder.
When I search from within Premiere Pro's media browser for my files, they show up only as VLC icons, and when I click to import them, I get an error message along the lines of 'unsupported format or damaged file".
I can double click the files in finder and they open in VLC fine.
I'm running the latest version of Prem Pro, Yosemite on my macbook pro which has 2.8ghz i-7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB graphic card.
Does anyone know why this is happening?

You could try to convert your XAVC MXF files into MPEG, then load them again , but the new codec may not be well handled by some converters.

  • Importing Canon C300 footage into FCPX

So I shot about 100GB worth of footage on a C300. Now, when I go to import the footage into FCPX, I get the message "None of the selected files or folders can be imported. Change the selection and try again."
I've read in other threads that FCPX directly supports MXF files, and that I should just be able to import directly. However, it's not working! Anyone else deal with this or have found a solid workaround??
    - FCPX 10.1.1
    - iMac OSX 10.9.2, 3.4 GHz i5, 24 GB RAM.

Hi Chris, I use C300 footage all the time, FCPx loves it, all you have to do is install the plugin : http://learn.usa.canon.com/resources/blogs/2012/20120224_xf_plugin_fcp_x.shtml
after that you should be good to go

  • Problem workflow mxf canon xf 100

    Hi,
I have shot a documentary with a canon xf 100. I could import the different mxf clips with the browser in Ppro CS5.5.2 but I cannot find a solution to work properly. I need to merge all the different mxf clips from each canon CONTENTS folder into one big clip, like if I had one big clip for each tape/card. For that, I created a new sequence from the different mxf clips and then I nested this sequence to get one unique file that looks like a unique clip. OK, but then, when I try to work from that nested sequence and to use it on my timeline, I cannot work with two mono tracks any more (I have set my project as mono, beacause I used two mono microphones). Everything I import from a nested sequence to the timeline becomes one  stereo file.
Then I tried something else. Inside Ppro, I merged ("merge clips") my nested sequence with another sound track, wich is in fact the full sound track I exported in a wav format from
the same nested sequence. At first, everything seems to be OK : I can work on my timeline with that merged clip, and I get two mono files. ...BUT as soon as I close and reopen Premiere cs5.5, one of my two mono files becomes empty. I can see the two mono audio file on the timeline but one of them has no sound at all!
    Any idea ? thanks.

Thank you Stephen, but I personally prefer to edit with one big file per card (or per tape) I can scrub easily, instead of having hundreds of small files with numbers (like mxf files), especially when I have hundreds of hours of footage. To help me, I can always make a detailed shot list.
So I tried to do like this ; sorry for my English and if I repeat certain points, but I hope it could help other people :
on the timeline, I imported all the mxf clips coming from one card,
then I calculated a new wav stereo file from all the files,
then I made a nested sequence with all the mxf clips, but without the original sound tracks (only video, not audio),
then I merged that nested video sequence with the new wav stereo file I have calculated ("merge clips"),
then I could import that new merged clip in the source monitor and edit on the timeline with two mono tracks.
But I met two new problems for a good editing:
First of all, as I already described, after I closed and reopened premiere pro, one of my two mono tracks on the timeline became empty: you can see the segments on the timeline but there is no more sounds inside. It is clearly a bug of ppro. I’ve read different posts with audio problems on mxf files imported into ppro.
So what I did is that instead of calculating a new stereo wav file from my original sequence, I calculated two mono files, one for each channel. Then I imported those files into ppro and and I merged it with my video only nested sequence. I, then, could edit properly with two mono tracks even if I closed and reopened ppro.
But the problem is that now, if, for any reason, I become out of sync on the timeline between video and audio segments, there is no more red indications to tell me the number of frames out of sync. And of course, you cannot use the functions of ppro to re-synchronize ("move into sync, slip into sync"). And this is a huge problem (strangely, a nested sequence keeps that function but it has only one audio track).
I sometimes wonder how the programs are developed. Mxf files is supposed to be a step ahead, but it becomes in the real editing, at least with ppro, two steps backward. From what I’ve read on the net, many people like me lost a lot of time trying to find a solution for editing mxf with ppro, and even if I decide to work with two mono tracks as I described, which is long and painful with hundreds of hours, how can I be sure I won’t meet another audio issue later on.
It is clear that the developers of ppro are not editors or directors. All I want to do with my mxf files is the basic of the editing. I want a car I can drive properly, not a car with air conditioned, that has no brakes.
So if they hear me : could you please update ppro so that we could edit properly with mxf files? It means :
1/ inside ppro, merge all the clips from the same card into one clip, that we can edit with two mono tracks if we decide
2/ keep the out of sync function for each audio channel with that merged clip.
Of course, if there is a workaround, I would be happy to know it.
    Thanks.

  • Canon c300 - Prelude or Canon XF Utility for Ingest?

Hey all, I've been scouring the net for advice on an upcoming shoot I'm DIT/Media Manager for, just to make sure that I got my workflow down pat. Problem is, I haven't really found reliable answers either way concerning the above question, so I thought I'd put it to the community to see what their response was.
Mainly, for ingest of c300 footage recorded to CF cards, what is your workflow to get the media into Premiere?
    Do you
    A)
Ingest card with Canon XF utility to multiple drives > Create new project with Premiere CC > use Media Browser to import your cards - > start cutting
    OR
    B)
Ingest card with Prelude CC to multiple drives -> Send to Premiere -> Start cutting.
Or some combination there of? Do any of you Transcode to ProRes or DNxHD?
My biggest concern is avoiding corrupting the data from the card. I know Prelude has a MD5 checksum, which is why i use it for pretty much everything else (not sure if XF utility does a bit by bit comparison). But I'm worried about the Spanning mutliple clips issues as this is a interview, multi camera shoot with long takes (see here -> http://forums.adobe.com/message/5045764#5045764)
Any other advice you have, or examples of your workflow would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    D
Oh and for reference, my system is:
    2011 15" MBP i7 2.2 ghz
    8 GB RAM
    Mountain Lion 10.8.5
CC (and CS6 if it works better)

For me, XF Utility without any doubt since i don't want to transcode the footage.
I transfer the cards with Explorer or Finder and then point XF Utility to the footage to either delete clips and/or create vitrual cards and transfer the files from the card/s to new virtual cards for better file managament. If you use XF Utility to transfer the footage from the camera to a virtual card, it will work and spanned clips will work as expected, so it is not necessary to first transfer the card and it's whole content to the computer. I have used XF utility for years and know that it works with spanned footage and that one can use it to transfer let's say 10 clips from a card in the camera with 100 clips on it. Premiere Pro has no problems to import virtual cards created with XF Utility. Timecode and everything is still there.
Use both methods and decide which one is best for you. (ie XF Utility of Prelude)
    /Roger

I'm working on several projects that use Canon mxf files in AE CS6 and everything worked just fine. Yesterday I installed the newest update and now it tells me they are unsoppurted or corrupted. I also switched from the trial to a paid version (but I dont think thats too important)
