MXF clips do not open in CS4

Hi guys,
I have Sony DXCAM's MXF's which I can not import in Premiere (neither CS3 nor CS4). I did convert the original MXF's using Sony's DXCAM software.
Adobe claims it supports MXF files. Another editing company which uses CS3 can import XMF's using a Windows XP machine. I work on Vista Ultimate.
I have an itch that I am missing a vital codec of somekind, but I can not find out why my copies of CS3 and CS4 of Premiere Pro do not allow me to import MXF files. From within the Media browser in CS4 it results in the same disappointing result. It doesn't open.
When I tried to open one MXF file in CS3 the program crashes and forces me to close it. In CS4 I get an error message after importing which reads; "Unsupported format or damaged file."
Any help is very much appreciated, as I need to start my editing ASAP>
Thx!
Jan.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for your feedback. The first thing I tried was to import the MXF packages (I don't see lone MP4's) into Premiere. That did not work. So I exported the MXF files using Sony's U1 player/recorder.
I think its a Vista and/or codec problem, as my friend who workes on an XP machine is able to open MXF's in CS3.

  • Edited clips will not open with other apps

After editing video clips using Adobe Premiere Elements, clips will not open with other apps (like VLC, Media Player, etc...)

Just saw your post and wanted to leave a just in case note.
From the information that you and John T. Smith just exchanged, it would appear that you attempted to play back the saved project file (project.prel) with your VCL Player and Windows Media Player. You need to export the Timeline content to a file format that is supported by the player of your choice. By now, you have probably been there and done that.
This is the just in case note about projects and their project.prel file....let us say that you have two separate projects and you decide to put the content of one project into another. Cannot do. One cannot import a project.prel into another project.prel. You would have to export the Timeline of one and then import that export in the other project. Alternatively, those with Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1, 9.0/9.0.1, and 10 could use the ClipMate program to copy/paste between programs without issues. However, with Premiere Elements 11 there are some problems in that regard.

  • CR2 files will not open in CS4 or Bridge.

I can not open CR2 file in CS4 or Bridge. The CR2 images show in the preview window when I click the "open" button under "file". When I select the image to open I get "Unable to complete your request because it is not the right kind of document." I have uninstalled and re-installed the sotware, installed all the updates and get the same results. Any sugestions?

From which Canon camera model exactly?
The CR2 file is probably from a newer camera and probably requires Camera Raw 6 or higher.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
CS4 is only compatible with Camera Raw up to version 5.7
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
You either have to upgrade Photoshop to version CS6 or higher
Or convert the CR2 file to DNG using the free DNG converter then edit the DNG files in CS4.

  • Dng files modified with lightroom 4 that are exported do not open in cs4 with the modifications

When I modify and export dng files in lightroom these modifications do not show up in cs4 when I open the exported file.    They do if I export the file in jpg format.

Jim, I appreciate the feedback.   I believe the issue is as you stated- I need an update to the camera raw in cs4 in order to view the changes.   Unfortunately, I do not think is possible since adobe has decided not to support cs4 anymore.   My choices as far as I can tell are  1) read the lightroom file out as jpg which has the changes, 2) update to cs6 which probably has the correct camera raw version, or 3) do this cloud thing with adobe which is what they want you to do.    I like to print my photos in large format, 17X22 etc, and since my set up prints out nicely from cs4, and pretty much looks terrible from lightroom, I probably will just read out the jpg files and print them in cs4.   The reason I use lightroom is that it seems to correct highlights and such much more effectively than cs4.    Any thoughts would be welcomed.    mike

  • My CS6 files will not open in CS4

I own the CS4 creative suite, and for a period over the last few years have been using CS6 from school.  Now that my License has expired for cs6 my files wont open in cs4 at all.  Is there a way to retrieve them with out having to buy cs6?

with id cs6 you have to save your file in idml format.
than open it with cs4 and resave it.

  • Smart object will not open in CS4

I have Lightrooom 4.2 and Photoso CS4. When I try to open a RAW file as a smart object in CS4, Photoshop opens but the image does not appear. There is no error message. Any ideas on how to get the image to open?

Your application versions aren't in sync, so this just won't work I'm afraid: CS4 is (roughly) four years behind LR4 and the version of ACR that comes with PS CS4 (5.x - should be on 5.7) won't be able to interpret the edits you've carried out in LR4, assuming you're using the latest process version with the new slider controls.
Very surprised you're not getting any error messages or warnings though. Maybe you switched them off in Lightroom?

  • Hi, I need some help. Since I have changed to windows 7 I cannot open raw files with my canon mk 5D. The files will not open in cs4. Can somebody advise me what to do. I have done updates on CS4 and still cannot open the raw files

Can anybody advise me what to do as I am having problems opening raw files on CS4 since I have changed to windows 7. I am using a canon mk 5D.

Actually, you're not.  That's not an accurate description of any of the Canon 5D models.
There are EOS 5D, EOS 5D Mark II, and EOS 5D Mark III models.  Which do you have, specifically?  Details will matter for this.
If you have a 5D Mark III (three) it's too new and you will not be able to directly open files with Photoshop CS4.  You'll either need a newer version of Photoshop or to use the free DNG converter.

  • Smart objects not opening in CS4

    Hi,
A few months ago I upgraded to the entire CS4 Premium design package and everything was working just fine.  However, recently I've been having some issues with Illustrator's smart objects, .ai, & .eps files.  Every time I choose to edit a smart object within a document in any of the CS4 programs (i.e. Photoshop, InDesign, Dreaweaver, etc..), it keeps loading up Illustrator CS3 instead of using  Illustrator CS4 (which is already open).  I'm also having the same issue when I doble click on an .ai or .eps file.  Instead of it opening the files with the CS4 version, it keeps wanting to open them in the CS3 version - even the files that were originally created in the CS4 version.
I haven't added any new programs, plug-ins or updates since I last upgraded to the CS4 edition, so i really don't know what coul be causing this to happen.  Especially since I never had this issue before.  If anyone has any ideas on how I can correct this issue, I'd greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Dave

I've tried setting up the default file to open with a specific program, but I keep getting a message stating that it's not a valid program.  Yet CS4 opens & works with no problems.  At this point, I'm kind of stumped ?!?

  • Clipping paths not working in CS4 on Windows

I have an image of a dohnut on a plate. I want a clippint path around the dohnut and one in the dohnut hole. Using the option icons does not give me a result of just a dohnut for placement over a color or image background in an Indesign page. I've tried this on Mac and it works just fine. What's the problem with my Photoshop CS4 on Windows?
    TIA

    Adendum.
Ok. It works, but you have to selected the icon on the far right before drawing the first path, or select the paths with paths selection tool/direct selection tool, and then click the right icon. Otherwiswe the result is inverted - you get the image area outside the large clipping and the area inside the small clipping when place over color or image on a page.
If I use the magic wand to select the area around and inside the doughnut and choose Make Selection... in the Paths pallet, then the function works regardless of what paths icon is initially selected.
    Hmmm.

  • InDesign CS4 or CS5 will not open my CS4 file

Please help! I have a large file for a newsletter I have been working on that suddenley refuses to open. I have been using CS4 and didn't have any problems until all of the sudden I just get a box saying "cannot open "name of file". I tried in CS5 on my home computer, won't open. I created it at work in CS4. I have no idea what to do. I can open the file from 3 days ago on my back-up drive, but every back-up'ed filed between then and now gives me this error. The error just happened yeaterday. I have lost 3 full days of work. Can anybody help me? This is a 44 page newsletter.
    Computer info:
    Model Name:    Mac Pro
      Model Identifier:    MacPro3,1
      Processor Name:    Quad-Core Intel Xeon
      Processor Speed:    3 GHz
      Number Of Processors:    2
      Total Number Of Cores:    8
L2 Cache (per processor):    12 MB
      Memory:    4 GB
My computer at home is a mac dual core also and it didnt work there either.

Thanks. yes, I typically duplicate the file and delete everything I don't want. I have been using InDesign for years but I never got into using templates. I will look into them after this is finished. It just figures it would happen right at the worst time.
This is a new contract and this is the second newsletter I have ever done. I duplicated it from the first one I did last quarter, but the first one I duplicated from a copy that was given to me by the company that handled it before mine and I have no idea if they did that too of what platform/version they worked from.
I have already started fixing everything. I basically went back to my first draft version. I was ready to turn it over for final approval today. I luckly have a pdf that I exported on my last draft because I typically save drafts with _ver2 etc as PDF as I work and submit them for edits.
PS...I have another newsletter I do that I have been duplicating for years, it has probably been duplicated 10 or more times. I'm not working on that one now, but I am not duplicating it again. I never even thought about it getting messed up from this habit.

  • .RW2 still does not open in CS4

I have CS4 with the latest updates, but still cannot see the .RW2 (Panasonic Raw) thumbnails or open in Camera Raw (I've purged the cache too!)

With the number of Panasonic Cameras using this format it does not seem likely that it would not be supported.
The problem is that for every new type of dSLR the vendors create a new code for that particular Raw type of the new camera. Adobe does create support for that new dSLR (it used to take a while but I believe it is now in an earlier stage available with an update of the plugin). But as you can expect from a commercial industry, they only do this for their latest version of software and in this case it is CS5 with ACR 6.x
So if your type of dSLR is new the chances are that you only can use the .RW2 Raw file with ACR6.x
Personally I find it reasonable to only update their latest version because there is often no backwards compatibility for the new features in the latest ACR plugin. The updates for ACR are also free and they do deliver a backdoor option with the free DNG converter.
Also consider more knowledge about DNG, it is an open standard created by Adobe and likely to let you use and open the files without problems in the far future. Some Raw formats from the early days don't have that option anymore and you are not able to use that file type on current systems

  • Files are not opening Illustrator CS4

Any EPS file one of our users Double clicks on in Explorer is trying to open in IndesignCS4 not IllustratorCS4, even if they use Open with : It's still not seeing IllustratorCS4.
They have recently removed IllustratorCS3 from their Vista machine, as it was only opening files in CS3 not the CS4 version.
    Has anyone experienced this before?
    Should I just re-install CS4 ( seems a bit of a hammer killing nut scenario )?
    Thanks

I think your problem is that AI CS4 doesnt open the wanted filetype, and that it isnt listed in the
Open With applications list, am i correct?
If so, you can try this to add Illustrator CS4 to the Open With list:
-Rightclick the file you are trying to open
    -Expand the Open With... option
    -Click: Choose Default Program...
Then a window pops up, showing you several applications which windows thinks are suited for opening the file [EPS]
-Illustrator Should be in the Recommended Programs list, shown in the top of the window.
If it isnt, press the button to expand the Other Programs list, and see if you can find Illustrator.
If it still isnt there, you can add it manually:
-Press Browse... and browse to: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS4\Support Files\Contents\Windows, select the Illustrator.exe file, and click Open.
Now Illustrator should be listed in the Other Programs list, and you can select it to open the file.
Make sure you check the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file", so in the future Illustrator will always open the EPS files for you.
    This should fix your problem.
If not, please let me know.

  • Compound clip will not open

I'm running FCPX 10.1.1 in OS 10.9.2. Starting today, when I attempt to open a certain compound clip, I get a beach ball that spins for minutes. How can I open that compound clip without the beach ball?
I have restarted the computer and that doesn't seem to help.
Yesterday I removed a project and many unused clips from the library in which the compound clip resides. I certainly hope I don't have to redo all that clean-up work in order to be able to open the problematic compound clip.

Thank you, Russ, for your diagnostic questions.
Looking at this thread and your posts in another thread, it sounds like your issues go beyond a specific compound.
    That's correct.
Are you having beachballs and poor response on all projects or just this one project?
The problems might be in just this one library. In another library I have a project, also created before 10.1, similar in complextity to the problematic project, for which Final Cut performs very well.
Is this a project that was created in 10.1 or an earlier version?
The project was created in an earlier version, when events and projects were separate and there were no libraries.
How are your libraries organized and stored? For example, do you have big libraries with a lot of events in them? Are the libraries on a drive separate from your boot drive?
I do not have big libraries with lots of events. Each library contains all the media for a single dance concert. If the dance concert ran for more than one night then there is an event for each of the nights. The library in question contains four events. All my libraries are on an external drive.
How much free space is on your boot drive?
The 1 TB boot drive has 600 GB of free space.
I'm working in OS 10.9.2 on a 3.4 GHz 27-inch iMac with 16 GB of RAM. The external drives are all FW 800.
One other persistent problem is that I have to force quit Final Cut whenever I switch between original and proxy media. When I restart Final Cut the switch to the other type of media has been made. This problem seems to be restricted to the problematic library. It does not occur in the other library I mentioned in my answer to your second question.
Perhaps I can solve my problems by copying everything from the problematic library into a new library.
