MXF files won't import into Adobe Premiere CS6

I can't get mxf files to open in Adobe Premiere CS6. I'm working on the newest Mac Book Pro- OS X Yosemite 10.10.1.  I tried importing the files through the media browser but I can't open them that way either. I see the mxf video icon but when I try to open it I get this error message -"the importer reported a generic error."  I ran all the updates for adobe and apple, but still these files don't open. Help please.

If I double click on the word holiday, it just shows the file folders. In the file folders the mxf files still don't open.

  • MXF Files won't play in Adobe Premiere CS6

I had a music video shot on Wednesday, the cinematographer downloaded the files from the memory card onto an external hard drive.. Checked the files, they were fine, handed it off to me.  Upon trying to open the MXF files in Adobe Premiere CS6, it gives me an error code of "preview in source monitor failure" "the importer reported a generic error".    I've tried downloading codec and all sorts of things, and nothing is working.   I also tried converting the files to MOV (i paid $30 for a converter) but the converters aren't playing back the audio, (i tried 4 different converters)… I thought it was some type of error in the files, but I checked with the cinematographer, and he even played back his MXF copy of the clips for me and they have the audio in..   I'm getting really frustrated because I HAVE to have the audio in order to sync up the lip syncing with the audio track.  The cinematographer said the MXF file is an MPEG2.
Can anyone shed some light on this issue?  I had wanted to have the video edited and released by next weekend.

If I double click on the word holiday, it just shows the file folders. In the file folders the mxf files still don't open.

  • Why won't some .gif files import into Adobe Premiere 11?

    Hello! New to Premiere here.
I'm working on a project which involves processing roughly 200 animated .gifs taken from the internet. Many of them will import nicely into Adobe Premiere 11.
The problem is that not all of them will do this. Many of them will give the following message and freeze the entire import process.
This seems like a strange error message to get because
    a) It seems to say here that the .gif format IS supported
    b) There don't seem to be any codecs for this 11.
The gif that produced that error message is below:
What especially frustrates me is that a gif with similar resolution and size will import, but the one above will not. Below is an example of a gif that will import into Adobe Premiere 11:
Is there an explanation for why this is the case? I have looked up this issue extensively on the internet, and every other person with this issue seems either to be stumped or find a solution for a much older version such as Premiere 8.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

I'm happy to announce to you all that my "mp4 importing" issues has been sorted out. Now I import mp4 shot with the same Windows Phone 8 Device into Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. Only that for the moment, it doesn't play as fast as with ordinary player.
    But how did I get it to work, you may wonder;
I simply installed Itunes on the system, I also installed an app called media monkey. I can't say which of the apps did the magic but the next time I tried to import mp4 files into Premiere Pro after these installations, it imported seamlessly.
Obviously there's a link between the required codecs and the itunes itself.
You may want to try it and hope it works for you.
Kindly inform us if it works.
    Thank you all.
    Cheers.

  • XDCAM SD PDW530p MXF files unable to import into Premiere CS4

    Hey guys,
New to the XDCAM world...I'm trying to load in the mxf files using the import function but I get an error 'Codec missing or unavailable'. Can anyone shed some light on this? While i'm here the footage is shot in 720 x 576 @ 50MB...what project option should i select?
    Cheers.

I am indeed referring to our PDW530p camera which is a disc-based (PDF23a Sony, bluray-like, discs) camera that saves every shot in a MXF file, no matter what format is used. I probably made it more confusing then necessary. Basically you can shoot to DVCAM and that is a format Premiere can natively import. IMX50, which is XDCAM as far as I am told, can not be imported by premiere natively.
@colin: we tried this "trick" (I am now in doubt if we renamed to .avi or to .mpg, it was a while back) on a machine that has a RT.X2 which does not support IMX50 and we NEEDED to be able to either convert or edit the clips. We have two systems here, one with the Axio and one with the RT.X2 (I know, I know :( ). We eventually ended up going to the Axio system, imported the footage in CS3, converted it to something premiere natively does support, transported that over the network to the other machine and loaded it in.
But we WERE able to get the clips in premiere on the RT.X2 system by renaming the clips. We just did not trust it. Feel free to try it if you wish. :)
On the Axio machine you can indeed playback IMX50 recored clips/footage in any program thanks to the hardware, drivers and codecs (it is a joined accomplishment *cough*) Matrox provides for their boards.

  • CS3 .ste files won't import into CS5

I recently upgraded from CS3 <on XP> to CS5 <on Mac Snow Leopard.> I expected a learning curve, but I also expect that software works as specified.
My CS3 site definition files won't import. I followed the instructions in DW help to the letter:
Manage Sites---> Import--->browsed to .ste files, selected Choose, and nothing happens. The sites don't show up in the list in the Manage Sites dialog box. ARE THERE MISSING INSTRUCTIONS? IS THERE A PLUG-IN MISSING?
After I've tried to import them, the .ste files are then 'greyed out' from the list of files. It doesn't matter what source the .ste files come from: jumpdrive, email, etc.
Note:  This is a new, fresh & clean Snow Leopard install, and my files were transfered at the Apple Store. The CS5 install was just last week as well.
I have client sites to update. Please help!

Yes, I did export the .ste files from XP/CS3. I saved them to a jumpdrive, and also emailed them to my Macbook. I know some people don't read or follow instructions before they ask for help, but that's not the case.
This seems to be a CS5 issue in Mac Snow Leopard. Important note; I was able to import the .ste files to an XP machine running a demo version of CS5. I've moved site files before with CS, CS2, and CS3, on XP. Never had an issue with those flavors or that OS.
On my Mac, after I attempt to import the .ste files, they become 'greyed out'. All other file types (.html, etc.) also appear 'greyed out'. It seems like there's a missing step in the instructions?
Update:  I right-clicked the .ste files in my Downloads file, and chose 'Open with Dreamweaver'. THEN they imported successfully, and prompted me to choose the root folders. (If nobody answers the front door, knock on the back door!)
Thanks to all for your suggestions, but I think the problem is behind me. Long live the right click!

  • Red files won't import into CS5

    Hi all,
I shot some footage yesterday on a Red Epic. The files are .rd3. Premiere Pro CS5 is suppossed to have native support for Red files, but they won't import - I get a "file import failure" message. The error says "unsupported format or damaged file"
    The files aren't damaged.
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

CS5 supports pre-Mysterium-X RED One media.  To import later builds and media from Epic/Scarlet, you need the RED Epic importer.
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/redepic_importer.html
The new CS6 will have support for this built-in.

  • Movie file won't import into iMovie

I have a digital camera that records video (Nikon Coolpix L4). It saves videos as .mov files. When I try to import them into iMovie, it gives me an unknown error. I have tried converting the .mov files into another format using MPEG Streamclip, but that also reports an error.
Any suggestions? Is this fixable or does it have something to do with my camera, not my software?

    Hi
iMovie 1 to 6 is for miniDV Cameras and connects only via FireWire.
All other material has to be concerted.
.mov - is no specific file type - just a container.
Has to be converted to streamingDV to be imported into iMovie 1 - 6.
If You try iMovie'08 it might be able to import.
Or use MPEG Streamclip. Why this doesn't work I can't figure.
May be You need to buy and install: Apple mpeg2 component - BUT NOT SURE at all.

  • PSD duotone files won't import into Aperture

I have files that are saved as PSD and are duotone files. When I try to import in Aperture, I get an error and the files don't import. What's up?

I usually convert them back to a color model that aperture understands - like rgb - technically it's non destructive if you are not using spot inks in your output.

  • .mov files with alpha channels won't import on Adobe Premiere Pro CC

    Just FYI, Apple:
This issue with Quicktime not seeing .mov files in Finder (or I should say, not playing them) is a HUGE problem for anyone who edits video.
If you export a file as .mov in After Effects, and have any transparency (RGB+Alpha channels), there is no way to import them into current projects. None.
PLEASE fix this, as I quite enjoy my job, and don't feel like losing it because my client doesn't understand why they can't have lower thirds in their video I'm contracted to do (and subsequently fires me and finds someone on a Windows rig).
    Thanks.

    What is up!
Based on my tests, it appears that the Mavericks embedded QT structure no longer considers many of the legacy compression formats to be supported under Mavericks. These formats were, by default, turned off under Lion and Mountain Lion which may indicate that Apple intends to drop even passive native support sometime in the future. Files containing Animation or PNG compressed data are no longer QL compatible and now force automatic QT X v10.3 conversion as mentioned above. Even worse, it appears other commonly used fomats like DV/DV in DV and AIC/PCM in MOV are also being relegated to this group. Luckily, DV/PCM in MOV, HDV/PCM in MOV, and ProRes422/PCM in MOV, along with all of my H.264/AAC/AC3/Chapter M4V distribution/iTunes managed files remain fully compatible with both QL and QT X v10.3 under Maverisks. This last is significant for me since many files containing AC3 as the primary audio stream are no longer QL/QT X v10.3 compatible with certain file extensions and/or container types which now appear to be checked in specific situations. Unfortunatly, what we've seen and learned thus far seems to be just the "tip of the iceberge."

  • Avi file won't import into Premiere CS4 after re installing

Recently I purchased a new PC (Windows 7 64 bit, i7 processor). I re installed Premiere Pro CS4 and copied over my project files from my old system (Windows Vista 64 bit, AMD quad core processor). I attempted to load a project that was created on the old system, which contained an avi file that was done in AE CS5, the avi file was not downloaded from a camera. When Premiere kept locking up when I attempted to load the project, I finally figured out that it was getting hung up trying to load this avi file. After further investigation, I found that the avi file wouldn't play using any type of player, including WM Player, and DivX player. Funny enough, QT played the file, but only after a delay of about 10 minutes before opening. All of the posts I've seen on the forums indicate codec issues. I've installed three different codes, and used gspot to inspect the file and it indicated "no codec needed".
I must reiterate that on my old system, the file was created in AE CS5 and exported as an avi, and works fine.
    Can anyone shed some light

Report back with the codec details of your file, use the programs below... A screen shot works well to SHOW people what you are doing

  • CR2 files won't import into iPhoto

Have recently done a photographic course and was advised to shoot in RAW from now on.  Just taken a load of pictures in RAW using a Canon 70D).  But when I try to import them, I get this message:
"The following file could not be imported.  The file is in an unrecognized format."
I'm using iPhoto 9.2.3 on an iMac using OS X 10.6.8.
Canon's own software will imprt them but I can't get them into iPhoto.
    Any suggestions gratefully received.

    Hi Rudegar
Followed your advice and looked at Genieo.  But this seems to be a front for an alternative web browser. Indeed I'm wondering whether it could be malware because now I can't get rid of it!  Every time I drag it from the Applications folder to the Trash bin I get this message:
I've shut down the computer and restarted it.  I've dragged all the elements to the Trash bin - and now it won't allow me to empty it - instead I get this message:
    So, now 2 questions:
Is there a particular CR2 you would recommend?
And, how do I get rid of this new stuff?
    Many thanks.

  • 2.98GB .m4v File won't import into iMove 11?

I ripped a family movie off a DVD converted from a VHS tape, using Handbrake into an .m4v file and have tried twice now to import it into iMovie 11 without success.  Is there some kind of limit that would make this fail?  It starts building a .mov file in the iMove projects directory and I can see the file size increase until the very end (2 hours later) and then it gets deleted.  Ugly.  What am I doing wrong or are my expectations of iMovie too high?

So after waiting all this time, iMovie simply deleted the file the end without adding it to my event.  No error.  No joy and almost 13GB.

  • Longer movie files won't import into iPhoto

I have a Canon PowerShot SD950IS 12.1MP Digital Camera which takes surprisingly video, and I was surprised to see that iPhoto even imports movies to begin with, but there's a glitch. Shorter movies import fine, but anything longer than a minute or two never finish importing. The camera says busy, and eventually, iPhoto stops, but the movie never shows up in the iPhoto window. Is there a limit to video size in iPhoto?
Also, I would like to import videos and photos into separate applications. Is there a way to tell iPhoto not to import or delete movies from a camera, and only work with picture files? That would simplify just using the Canon software for the movie portion (which does work).
One other thing, does iMovie work with USB now, or is it still Firewire only?
    Thanks!

If you use a card reader to mount the memory card from your camera on the Mac's desktop, you can copy your videos to the hard drive by dragging and dropping, then import them into iMovie or whatever.
This suggestion presumes that when you connect the camera directly to the Mac, like most other recent Canon models, the card inside it doesn't mount on the desktop. Using a card reader will mount it. If the card does mount on the desktop when you connect the camera, just drag and drop the movies from it to the hard drive.

  • .avi files won't import into imovie 09!

    Hi,
I make sims movies/machinima and I recently updated from imovie HD to imovie09.
The recording features on sims 3 save the files as .avi, and I have recently realized...
I cannot import them into imovie 09!
There are around 300 of these in game recorded videos, and i don't really want to convert them ALL seperately.
Is there an app/ add on that would let imovie09 import .AVI files? or is there another (reasonably priced0 editing program that i could use to edit movies? ( preferably with chroma key/ green screen )

Well, here is a hail Mary thought...
Try using the Mac's finder to convert to a codec that your Mac can handle. Just right click on the file and encode away.
    Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.
Here is a link showing how to do it.
