Mxf with 8 audio channels

Hey guys,
I`m editing a TV-Spot with Premiere CS6 and have to export it as a MXF OP1a (SMPTE 378M) (suffix .mxf) with 8 audio channels.
When exporting it with Pr the mxf has only two audio channels (I have re-imported it into Pr for checking the channels)
How do I get an mxf with 8 audio channels?
I`m a bit stranded as I`ve to finish it until tomorrow....
(video signal compliance: ITU-R BT.709)
Thanks so far!

Go to the Audio tab on the Export Settings dialog.  There you can select the number of channels in the MXF export.

  • Trouble with audio channels

Hi. I'm having a bit of trouble with creating audio tracks. Say if I create a few audio tracks, I'll put a loop on one of the tracks and the signal goes through to the next track down and plays the loop on two tracks instead of one. anyone know why this is happening?

I've never encountered this so I can't really say. I can't imagine that you're running out of Audio objects as they are 256 Audio objects available in Logic. So if you've used 256 Audio objects already Logic can't create new Audio objects and will assign each new track to the same object. But I don't see this being the problem in your case.
Anyway check the track configuration by control+clicking/right clicking onto the track headers and checking to which Audio objects the new tracks are actually assigned.

  • Working with clips, channels, and tracks

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WS1c9bc5c2e465a58a91cf0b1038518aef7-7f49a .html

Hi, I've been editing on FCP and just started working Premiere and I'm having a problem with audio channels, which I'm not sure is covered in the channel mapping explanation in this page. I'm importing my stereo clips using the stereo media as mono setting so I can edit the channels separately (I have dialogue on the left channel and nothing on the right), but when I export them they appear as two identical channels, with no left/right separation. Can anyone tell me what settings I need to use to keep the channels as discrete Left and Right stereo. If I have to map the tracks to tell Premiere which track plays left and right do I have to do this every time I start a new project? I didn't have to do this in FCP and it seems like there must be a less complicated and time-consuming way to make the program play the left channel out of the left speaker and the right channel out of the right speaker.

  • Export MXF with multiple audio channels for broadcast

    Hi,
I work at a broadcast company as an editor. We always used FCP with the free sony xdcam plugin to export. This plugin seems to be one of the rare ways to export an MXF with 4 audio channels. I don't know exactly why we need to export it for broadcasting with 4 audio channels, but we do.
Since our workload has grown enormously the last few months and it will only become more we are optimizing our workflow. We also work with a lot of different endboards in After Effects and we made a nice template to work with. And since AE and Premiere can make a dynamic link we are considering changing from FCP to Premiere.
Now comes the question!: The only obstacle we could not find an answer to is exporting it with 4 audio channels as an MXF from Premiere CS5. Will there be some development on this level regarding CS6?
A solution to this should save us a lot of time!
Any help will be highly appreciated!
I also attached an example for the usual MXF files we export

I have the same problem. I have a project with multiple audio channels and I want to export them as individual channels in a MXF-file.
    Method:
When I created a new sequence I choose "Multichannel" from the "Tracks" page. When I export the MXF OP1a, I choose 8 channels from the "Audio" page. None of the channels are muted.
    Result:
The rendered file contains 8 channels, but only the first two channels contains any audio (main left + right), the rest of the channels are empty. Channel 1 and 2 contains the audio from all channels, but I want the channels to be seperated in the same way as they are layered in Premiere.
I don't understand your answer to wleoni75's question. Could you please help me further?

  • Export MXF with 5.1 Audio

    Hi,
i want to export a MXF-File with 5.1 Audio out of Premiere CC 2014.0.1, but the only options that i get in the audio export-menu are 2-channels, 4-channels, 6-channels, ..., 32-channels. Is it possible to export with 6-channels arranging the mono-files in the right order or is there a special meta-data affordable that the exported file is recognized as 5.1? Anyone?
    Thanks!

Richard, thank you so much for that link. That seems to have done the trick, at least 95%. I have successfully routed all tracks to a single 5.1 file that can now be successfully exported... however, even after following his invert track trick, I am still getting nothing in my LFE track. How on earth do you rout that LFE track? Has it changed in premiere CC 2014?

  • Always asynchronous audio if I export an MXFop1a file with 8 channel audio from Premiere 2014.1 for delivery to XDCam HD U1 Sony.

I try now for hours to export an MXF op1a with 8 channel audio from Premiere CC2014.1  and with AME 2014.1 to copy the file on my XDCam drive u1 to a disc.
The file is always asynchronous after 20 or 30 minutes. The project is synchronous and also other codecs are synchronous if I export them. So I think it's a bug...
I use the newest Sony XDCam drivers. Also parts with no audio can't be render with intelligent render. If I use this option, Premiere or AME crashes...
I work on a mac system with 10.8.5 OSX.
Does anybody have the same problems or any ideas to solve my problem...
    Best regards,
    Florian

The following will answer both your questions a) and b).
Click on your master timeline and press cmd+0 (zero) to bring up Sequence Settings, then click on the Audio Outputs tab on the right. Click on the Outputs option and change it to 6. You can leave them as Stereo pairs.
Now, back on your timeline, you need to make sure all your audio is organised so each track. A1, A2, A3, A4 etc has all the relevant media on it.
Then, on the left of the timeline you see the Destination toggle buttons, then you see the Padlocks to lock tracks, then you have the Toggle Auto Select squares. If you right-click on the Toggle Auto Select squares you bring up a little sub-menu, at the top of this list you'll see Audio Outputs, which will show the stereo channels for that particular track. As you've changed the number of Audio Outputs in the Sequence Settings, the list will show: 1&2, 3&4, 5&6. You just tick whichever channels you want.
In your case, you have dialogue on the first 4 tracks, no problem, just go down through tracks 1,2,3 and 4 as described above and assign these to Audio Outputs 1&2.
Then just go down through your music and effects audio tracks and assign them accordingly.
Now, when you export your timeline as a self-contained media file, it will have different audio channels.
I hope that makes sense. When you change the number of audio outputs as described in the first step, I believe the rest of it is fairly self explanatory, once you know where the settings are.

    Thank you for your help!

    Hey Guys,
I'm having problems exporting an 8 channel audio mxf for a broadcast client. The mix they want is as follows:
Track 01: Full Programme Mix L
Track 02: Full Programme Mix R
    Track 03: International Sound L
    Track 04: International Sound R
Track 05: Music and Effects L
Track 06: Music and Effects R
    Track 07: VO Mono
    Track 08: Interview Mono
I have setup the sequence following this video on vimeo and am fairly confident I have the sequence settings correct. https://vimeo.com/38501157
I also can export a multichannel mxf. But all my tracks are exported as mono and I am therefore not maintaining my L and R as set up in my sequence
The problem is on exporting that since Tracks 01 and 02 are bounced down to 1 + 2 it means that my Track 01 (Panned L) is getting bounced down onto my Track 02 aswell and thus it does not remain seperate. Has anyone delivered a similar format for a broadcaster and come across this problem with Premiere Pro and know a solution?
Any help would be much appreciated
    Thanks

  • Missing one audio channel from MXF video

    Greetings,
I have a bunch of footage shot with a Canon XF300 camera. Two wireless lav mics were feeding into the camera. On the day, I was monitoring audio and am 100% certain that it was recorded correctly. I found a couple of unerased CF cards from the shoot and was able to verify that the audio is good when I pop the CF card into the camera.
However, when I transfer the footage to hard disk and attempt to play it out using either Premier Pro CS5, or VLC, I'm losing channel one of the audio. I've been attempting to troubleshoot, and have found a couple of references on the Web regarding missing audio channel 1 from MXF video files -- but nothing that is relevant to this situation.
I'm on Mac OS X 10.6.6 and am running Premiere Pro CS5 5.0.3. No video cards.
I've tried bringing the files in using: Finder, XF Utility and ShotPutPro. I'm copying the complete directory structure in all cases.
Has anyone seen this problem before? Any troubleshooting thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Cameron

It turns out that the MXF files are coming in with 2 mono audio tracks, and for some reason, in the clip viewer, one of the audio tracks doesn't play, but if you move the clip to the timeline, both audio channels can be heard. Ran into the same issue with Cineform encoded material coming in with two mono audio tracks. So I'm going to file a bug report.
Ah, OK... now I understand. No need to file a bug report; maybe a feature request, but a bug report isn't necessary. Here's why:
When you bring in clips with mono channels, by default, you only hear the first mono channel when playing back in the Source Monitor. If you toggle over to Audio Waveform view (click the Output button), you can select which of the channels (called "Tracks" which is a little silly, frankly) you want to monitor. Here's what this looks like:
This applies to any format that has mono channels. If you interpret the footage to stereo (you must do this before you use it in a sequence), you can listen to both channels at once. Of course, then you have to deal with the audio as stereo, which is not always what you want. That's why I do a lot of my editing with MXF material (primarily P2) that has multiple mic sources in a sequence, where I can monitor more than one source channel.
In any event, that's why this isn't really a bug; it might be a poor design decision, but it's otherwise working correctly. I'd definitely suggest making a feature request for a "Mixed" or "Plus" audio source option in the Source Monitor. I'm going to do the same.
Anyway, I hope that helps explain the issue. Good luck!

  • MXF export with audio problems

    Hi!
At the brodcast station that I work we recently upgrade to premiere CC. Our workflow are almost XDCAM files (MXF) and whe an edition is finished we export to MXF to play out or copy to XDCAM disc.
Recently I have a multi camera project and everything works perfect but when I export to an MXF file the sound as a "blank frame" in sound. The concert as an hour and twenty minutes and at the fisrt second
theres is that little "cut" in sound that doesn't exist in timeline.
I tryed various ways to export and everytime I got this frame in the same place. I also export timelines with 2 minutes from other projects, more simple, and always I got a "blank frame" somewhere in audio.
Tryed to export with 2 channels, 8 channels, stereo timeline multichannel timeline and everything result in a MXF in this audio issue.
Anyone already detect this exporting to MXFs, any sugestion to resolve this problem?

Thank you norok65 for replying this post.
I searched for some post with my problem and I didn't find so I post this one. I'm "glad" that I'm not the only one having this Kind of problem.
Like you said the problem cames with some updates. We used Premiere CS5 and no problem with MXF. We tryed the CS6 to possible update and
at the begining no problem but after some updates this problem appears and we abandoned the CS6 and we tested the CC. No problem with CC
and we did the migration. So, CC export MXFs with no problem but after some updates the audio problems came up again.
I think the problem is the updates and Adobe must fix this.
Jim, I already did some tests and exported only audio to WAV and no problem. Other formats like quictime no problem too.
This kind of problem only appears with MXF.
Like I said our workflow are almost everything in MXF (XDCAM) and we wish this issue can be solved.

  • MXF Audio Channels

Why is it I can't changed he audio channels from 8 to 2 when selecting 1080i29.97 XDCAM HD 422 50 Mbs setting. I've duplicated the preset but it won't allow me to change it. Previously I was able to change this with Hamburg Medias MXF ForMac plugin.

Go to the Audio tab on the Export Settings dialog.  There you can select the number of channels in the MXF export.

  • CS 5.5 - Can I export Discrete Audio Channels w/ MXF OP1a

I created a new Sequence as 16 channel audio, each as mono. I've populated 8 channels.
    I export an MXF 0P1a.
I brought the MXF back in and cut it to a new sequence to test the audio export. And on the new sequence the mix tool is only showing audio on the first 2 channels, even though the file imported with 8 channels. So it seems like PPro mixed the channels down.
Can I export an MXF with 8 discrete audio channels?

I have checked it and it doesn't work  6.0.3. I have proper 8 chanel audio on sequence and audio master shows this cannels properly. After exportin i have only 2 channels.
Please report how to do it properly.

  • How do I export from FCP to a QuickTime file with multiple audio channels?

I'm delivering a project where the first step is to generate an HD Cam SR master, which I will be doing at a post-production lab. They will then do a QC check for me. To generate this HD Cam SR master, they need to me to bring in my 98-minute long movie on a firewire hard drive, in five equal parts -- QuickTime files. From these five QT files, the lab will then be creating an HD Cam SR master that will have...
dialogue on tracks 1 and 2
effects on tracks 3 and 4
music on tracks 5 and 6
    MY QUESTION
    a) I don't see any way to separate these audio tracks accordingly in the FCP menu for QuickTime export. Does anyone have any experience doing this?
    b) And does anyone know the most efficient way to combine timeline audio tracks for this purpose? I have my dialogue sitting on the first FOUR audio tracks, actually. To deliver this film, I'll need to crush these four audio tracks to two, as listed above. I could generate an AIFF file, I suppose, import it back onto the timeline, sync it up, and then re-export along with the visuals to make the final QT file, but this seems like a generation loss.
    thanks,
    Shanked
PS the movie is made up of footage from a Sony PMW EX1. I used the codec "XDCAM 1080 24p 35mbs VBR" for editing in FCP. I'll either export to QT using this same codec or switch to "Apple ProRes" if my machine can somehow maintain the sync.
