My 105Mbps from Comcast drops to 10 Mbps thru Airport Extreme

Can anyone tell me what might be the issue?
On my iMac i7, I'm getting the 105 Mbps Blast speed because my i7 is directly connected to my 2012 Apple Airport Extreme router.
Yet, when I go to another room in my house, my 105 Mbps Blast speed drops to less than 10 Mbps via wifi?
Would getting the 2013 Apple Airport Extreme solve my issue? I've heard it's nearly 3 times faster than the previous model.
Otherwise, can anyone venture a guess as to why my wifi signal is so weak? My wifi download speed is barely 10% of what I should be getting.

Thanks very much in advance.

What speed does the MBP get when it is in the same room as the TC.. check the link speed and it should be 450mbps.. it won't transfer files that fast but link yes.. then upstairs check again.. look at the wireless signal levels.
It is also important to check the link speed when transferring a file and not just static.. it will usually drop considerably which is expected.
The loss through a floor is always worse than walls.. there is simply more material in the floor and the worst position is directly above the unit.. wireless signal is kind of like a doughnut.. meaty at the horizontal.. pretty big hole top and bottom.
Apple sell two different ethernet dongles.. one USB to ethernet which is cheap. But limited by USB speed.. which is only 2.0 not 3.0.. they also sell a much more expensive thunderbolt to ethernet.
See you local apple store

Actually thunderbolt one is alot cheaper now than it used to be.. buy that.

  • Printing on MBP thru Airport Extreme

I got my MBP and would setup a network printing with Epson AcuLaser C1100 through Airport Extreme Basestation. However, when I start to print, I got "InterfaceType Error = -1". Then, the print job terminated. Could anyone tell me why? Now, I am using Epson printer driver version 3a and I tried other version, but it won't help.
    MBP   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

All I can say is good luck. I had mine printing through the base station before I reinstalled the OS and now it will not print and I get a similiar message. I have emailed Canon and they are not helping me at all on this. They said something like the printer doesn't support wireless printing. Apple Care kind of said the same thing but was a little less rude about it. So I am going to call Apple Care back and see if they will help me on this. So I would try to call Apple Care and also check the compatibility list too, just to make sure your printer is on the list. Good Luck!

I can connect to internet with my MBP through Airport Extreme, but my iOS devices can't. Please help.

GerleMan, Welcome to the discussion area!
    There are two probably causes:
Your ISP is blocking the port used by Entourage to send mail and the ISP used by the other wireless networks is not.
    OR
Your ISP doesn't like OS X's default MTU seting of 1500. If this were the case it should also affect any large file transfers you try to make from your Mac to the Internet.

  • Time Capsule connectivity drops on extended network with Airport Extreme

I have a new Airport Extreme router as the main router in my network and a Time Capsule set to extend the 2.4Ghz network. The routers must be configured in this order because I want the 5Ghz network from the Extreme to cover my main seating area.
The problem I have is that while I'm connected to the Extreme, on either the 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz network, the connection to the Time Capsule will 'drop'. The network drive within the Time Capsule will no longer be available and the AirPort Utility no longer shows the Time Capsule. If I reboot the Extreme, the Time Capsule will reappear.
Also, when the connection drops, if I were to move within the primary range of the Time Capsult and connect to the 2.4Ghz network, it will connect flawlessly and I would have access to the Time Capsule and it's resources. It is only access through to the Time Capsule through the Extreme that is no longer available.
Any ideas what could be causing this? Both routers work flawlessly otherwise. I'm fairly certain there isn't a hardware problem here. I've gone through all the configuration settings multiple times and can't find anything that could affect this. I have the latest firmware for both routers and the latest AirPort utility.
One thing to note is that the Time Capsule is a North American unit, while the Extreme is from Hong Kong. I know there are slight differences regarding the wireless channels that both can use, but I don't think this is an issue since the Time Capsule maintains proper internet connectivity the whole time. If it was a channel issue, I'd expect the Time Capsule to lose internet access when this issue arrises.
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

7.4.2 firmware does NOT resolve this problem.
I also have this problem -- it started about 2 weeks ago (around July 20?), possibly at the time the new Airport Extreme firmware went into effect. I have two separate Mac laptops that each use Time Machine to back up to different disks that are attached to the Airport Extreme (i.e., each laptop has its own backup-destination disk). Both were working flawlessly before (for more than 6 months); now, each one reliably drops the connection to the disk (produces an error message, and thereafter cannot re-connect to the destination disk until I cycle the Airport Extreme with power-off/on). I had hoped that 10.5.8 would help (the release notes talked about improved stability with Airport connections), but not so.

  • A few questions from someone considering whether to buy an Airport Extreme

    Hi there,
I've spent the last couple of months grapping with an APPALLINGLY bad router from D-Link that has had more problems I can count on all my fingers and toes. I'm deciding between whether to replace it with kit from Netgear, Belkin or Apple. If anyone here who has Apple's net connection hardware could help me out with either of the questions below I would be most grateful and award points accordingly.
Q1.) What is the difference between the new 'AirPort Extreme Base Station' and an 'Airport Express Base Station with AirTunes'? I can't figure it out and am therefore unsure as to which I would need.
Q2.) It is essential for me that the access to the utilities or management interface (whatever you wish to call it) for the router is secure. I have a nightmare of a brother, who would do just about anything to be able to tinker with the settings to stop family members getting online everytime he gets annoyed with us, so it's essential that I can set up a password so only my dad and I can use it. Does Apple's gear allow this?
    Thanks alot for your time,
    Charity

Thank-you so much, that table is fantastic for comparing things. At first I thought the 'AX' was a like a range booster or repeater, but as I understand it now, it can either act as a booster for a network using another router, or it can work as your main router itself.
I have concerns about the quality, reliability and lifespan of both the AEBS and the AX, as there are some bad reviews on the Apple Store pages, so that's a risk I'll have to weigh up against the Belkin and Netgear routers by having a look around online to see which ones seem to have the better track record. Nothing can be as bad as the D-Link, that much I know for sure.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Migrate from minimac (G4) to new iMac via airport extreme

I have a brand new iMac and I have the latest airport extreme.
I have my old miniMac and all are linked up through the Airport Extreme.
I want to transfer all of my old files from my G4 miniMac to my new iMac but the Migration Assistant says I have to use (buy) a firewire cable.
How do I transfer my files from my old computer (miniMac) to the new iMac via airport extreme?

sorry to say but its the firewire technique which Migration Asst. uses. It does not migrate over Ethernet.. its actually very simple...
you put your G4 into target disk mode. You put the iMac into migration asst., attach the cable and the migration (file copying) begins after you chose to proceed.
The reality is firewire is faster than most standard ethernet anyway... and wireless? it would take an extraordinary amount of time.

  • Comcast Arris Modem/Router interfering with AirPort Extreme?

Constantly getting knocked off the internet. Using an Arris Modem/Router  TG862G
    and an Apple Airport Router.
    3 feet separate each router.
Am I getting knocked off the internet; because my AirPort Extreme  is "confusing" my Arris Modem? Could interference cause internet disconnections?
Or is it likely something else?
    Thanks

I had this same exact issue occur when I connected a printer to my Time Capsule, literally unplug everything from the router i.e. printer, computer, etc. etc. and wait a few minutes. Then re-plug all the peripherals (try different ports, except the LAN ) and see if that solves your wifi issue. If not, then unplug the router and just "give it a rest" then re-plug everything. If that doesn't work then defineitely try a hard reset or see if one of your connected devices is interfering with the network. In my case it was the printer that screwed up my connection and not the modem. I would also try switching LAN ports on the modem and see if that helps.
    Hope this helps!

  • Airport utility wont connect from my windows 8 pc to my airport extreme

my airport extreme is model number A1408 and I am using a windows 8 pc to try and use the Airport utility app to connect to my base station to port forward and ive done it before but now it wont detect my router even though im connected to the wifi from it and when i try to manualy connect it gives me error -6753 can anyone help me?

Figured it out. To print wirelessly via airport express 2nd generation you have to do some things. Download the bonjour printer thing mentioned above and have the printer plugged in to the airport express. Then run the bonjour printer thing and select your connected printer and install. Where I went wrong was I tried to print from my hp printer (1). When you install a printer with bonjour to print wirelessly it installs the same printer (2) so it's like there's 2 different printers in word or whatever you use to print.  You have to select the one that says ready. Thanks for everyone's help

  • How to print from iPad to printer set up with airport extreme

I was able to connect my printer to the USB port on my airport extreme and I was able to print fom my iMac the printer is online and I am sharing the printer on the network. However from my iPad when I click share then choose printer it searches for the printer but does not see it so I am not able to print from my iPad first generation any help I can use all the support please

This tweak of OS X 10.6.x might help you: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2658720?threadID=2658720&tstart=0
I've been using it with AirPrint since OS X 10.6.5 to connect with a WiFi-connected Canon Pixma MP560 and a USB-connected HP LaserJet 1320. (Haven't tried it with OS X 10.7 Lion, and no plans to upgrade.)
Also, check the App Store for apps from your printer manufacturer.
Apps such as Printopia and others are highly recommended and allow printing to a variety of devices, but I have not tried it.

  • Only 10 results from spotlight with Vantec NexStar MX on AirPort Extreme

I have a Vantec NexStar MX (dual 3.5" drive enclosure) and a NexStar 3 (single bay) attached to my AirPort Extreme as a NAS. For some reason, when I search for a result in Spotlight, it will only return 10 items max from the MX. When I search for something on the NexStar 3, I get all the results.
There's no help on the Vantec support page about this. Has anyone had similar issues, and found a solution to resolve it?

Could you explain how your network is configured?
    it can't find the server.
Could you explain this more or give the text of the error message?
10.2 won't do WPA, but it works with WEP just fine.

  • How much is the mbps of AirPort Extreme Base?

    Hi.
I can't find this information on Apple Store, and on the internet... So anyone knows how much is the mbps of Airport?
    THanks.

d b i? I am not familiar with that term.
20 dB is the nominal radio output power, if that is what you ask. This really means very little since the power of all wireless devices is limited by law. Everyone runs their routers at 100%.

  • Up to how many Mbps does airport extreme support?

I'm considering buying an airport extreme, but did not find info on how many Mbps. If anyone knows please let me know. Thanks.

Suffice it to say it is faster than any known consumer broadband Internet.
Its ridiculously fast speed is most useful for local file transfers over your LAN - Time Machine backups, NAS streaming etc.

  • I recently bought an Airport extreme, while I was living in Japan, and had a fiber optic modem. The Airport connected fine and I had wi-fi I moved back to the US, and when I got my docsis(?) modem from COX, it  wont work with my airport extreme help!

Basically had APxtreme working with fiber optic in Japan, got to the states with Docsis(cisco) modem and my APxtreme doesnt work now. Tried forever, and it just didnt work, I had a yellow light for internet on airport utility with a green light for the APxtreme? Still nothing workey....

Anytime you change networking hardware, it is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of your networking components.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • Yahoo DSL from Dell Desktop to ibook-wirless via Airport Extreme

Greetings. I have just ordered a ibook G4 to replace my Dell Dimension desktop PC running Windows XP. I am currently wired to my DSL modem (Speedstream) with SBC Yahoo DSL as my ISP. I want to do the following and need some help: 1) move my Internet settings from my Dell Desktop to my new ibook, which will become my primary machine used (would like to use my Dell for only a couple of programs that are Windows only--and then only occasionally at that); 2) once Internet settings have been set up and are working as it should, I'd like to then set up my soon to arrive Airport Exteme base station to my modem and be wireless with the full 802.11g Wi-Fi capabilities. Anyone who may have experience with similar tasks that may be able to assist me? I can't wait for my machine to arrive, and I want to make sure the setup frustration, esp. w/ the 'net set up and going wireless, is eased. Also, through from anyone who's made a similar switch from desktop using the Windows platform to a 12" ibook G4 (80GB hard drive and 1GB RAM) and how that's been as their only/primary machine would be nice to hear as well? Cheers, robyn.

ya i believe you are right.
on my new Palm Lifedrive i first entered in the ip for google and it worked immidiately.
oddly enough i entered in apple.com and that worked also so i am gonna try other devices.

  • Since updating to ISO 8 my iPod touch keeps dropping me from from wifi.i have to keep rebooting. I have an airport extreme which looks like a white space ship. Can anyone help.thank you

Since updating to ISO ate my iPod touch fifth-generation keeps dropping me from Wi-Fi I have an older AirPort Extreme that looks like a white spaceship does anybody have any solutions I have an iPad first-generation and my girlfriend has an iPod touch fifth-generation that she hasn't updated yet and there is no problem with those two units

I would either say that the iOS is correpted due to a software glitch or y have have a hardware problem like bad memory locations that are corrupting the iOS.
    - Restore from backup via iTunes. This will install a fresh copy of the iOS. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.   This will elimate corruptin in the backup causing the problem.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
