My 12-point font size looks like 6 point in Mac Mail?

How do I fix this? I do not want to be constantly switching to a different font, then switching back before I hit send

You can set default font sizes for writing and viewing messages.
From the Mail menu bar click Mail > Preferences then select Fonts & Colors.

I found this plugin which solved pretty much all of my mail font rendering problems.  It is designed for Lion, so don't know whether it will work but thought I would offer it up.

• Getting Fonts to look like...

Hello.
Im using my x7 @ 1152x864. Same resolution under Windows. Im not sure if the dpi settings are correct. xdpyinfo says 81 dpi are used. But i have no clue what dpi are used under windows.
I like unantialiased fonts and i use a crt.
Small fonts are really hard to read.
Thats what i get under linux:

And this under win:

The Screenshot is not by me but i hope this makes no difference. He uses a default installation and he set the resolution to 1152x864 for making the screenshot.
The browser is different. But i think it looks same under firefox.
So i red the xorgfonts topic in wiki. But i still dont know what to do to get such fonts.
What do i need to do to get the fonts look the same as under Windows? Readable small fonts, un-antialiased and without bugs like letters stacked upon each other.
And how would that look under Mac? I heard that Typographs like Macs. But what would a Typograph prefer? How do fonts render under a Mac?

Yes, windows is using 96 dpi as default and it ignores the real dpi of your screen.
You can force xorg to always use 96 dpi too. For example start it with: startx -- -dpi 96.
If you really want to make it the linux way do this:
1. Take the ruller and measure your screen size X and Y in mm.
For example my screen size in mm (the visible part) is 331 x 207 (don't trust xorg ddc on this, measure it yourself). 1 inch = 25.4 mm. So it's 13,031496 inches x 8,1496063 inches. My screen resolution is 1280 x 800 (notebook lcd) which gives 98,22 dpi x 98,16 dpi ~ 98x98 dpi. Put this line in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf in the Monitor section:
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "NotebookLCD"
... other parameters
DisplaySize 331 207
... other parameters
EndSection
When you restart xorg you should find in the logs something like this:
(**) I810(0): Virtual size is 1280x800 (pitch 2048)
(**) I810(0): *Built-in mode "1280x800"
(**) I810(0): Display dimensions: (331, 207) mm
(WW) I810(0): Probed monitor is 430x260 mm, using Displaysize 331x207 mm
(**) I810(0): DPI set to (98, 98)
You can cheat a little to have square dpi - I mean 98 x 98 is usually better than 98 x 90 or something like this.
2. In /etc/fonts/local.conf put these lines:
<match target="pattern" >
<edit mode="assign" name="dpi" >
<double>98</double>
</edit>
</match>
3. In firefox menu edit/preferences content tab, advanced button (next to Default font size) set Display resolution = System setting.
The font size should be better now. You can of course change the minimum font size in firefox or opera if you want.
2006-06-13 - I've noticed that because I enabled HTML in this post phpbb stripped some of the code in 2 - it removed mode, name and target. It should be fine now.

• Getting Consolas font to look like Windows

Hey all,
I just got Arch installed with KDE, and I must say I'm liking it a lot because Arch seems like the only distro with up to date versions of chrome and gcc. But I digress.
I'm having problems getting fonts to look good. I've tried following the directions on the Fonts page on the wiki with regards to subpixel rendering (which might end up not being the problem, I don't know), but it hasn't helped. In particular, my favourite font, Consolas, looks pretty bad on Arch.
Here's Windows 7, which is how I would like it to look:
And here's Arch:
The Arch version isn't nearly as smooth, and it looks especially bad in the console (Konsole) and in my web browser (Chrome). Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks.

Hi brebs, thanks for the reply. I had tried installing infinality, but I can't because pacman says this:
$ sudo pacman -U freetype2-infinality-2.4.7-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...
:: freetype2-infinality and freetype2-ubuntu are in conflict (freetype2). Remove freetype2-ubuntu? [y/N] y
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: fontconfig-ubuntu: requires freetype2-ubuntu>=2.3.11
:: libxft-ubuntu: requires freetype2-ubuntu
I'm sorry if this is a stupid mistake, I'm pretty new to Arch and linux in general. What should I do?

Is there a way to change the font size in the callout tool on a Mac?  I am using Acrobat 9 Pro and the callout font is way too big for where I want to use it.  I have gone to the properties box like it says in many Windows queries on this subject but font size is not available in the properties box.

Hi Dave,
Thank you so much for the email.  I tried every object and method I can

• How do I increase font size on the Home Page and E-Mail messages screens?

I just downloaded Firefox and made it my default browser as I am having so many problems with IE 9. I am old and gray-headed and not techy. I would like to view my home page (Yahoo.com) and my E-mail correspondence in at least a size 12 Font. I went through all the option lists I could find with font size and think I saved, but nothing has happened to help me increase the font. I replied to an e-mail and set the font size at 12 but it is still as tiny as this message.
I have tired, dry eyes. Can you help me, please?

It isn't an issue. It's been that way since they came out with the first notebook computer. If this was so critical to your decision then why did you not check it out at an Apple Store first? When you buy sight unseen, then any problems you encounter not due to factory defects are your problems.
You can try zooming the higher resolution scheme or look at what's available to you in Accessibility preferences.

• Font size bug in iOS 7.0.4 mail app?

Hi,
I experience a strange behaviour with iOS 7 mail app. When I try to read a plaintext mail with the iPhone in portrait orientation the font size is oddly big. I can "zoom" in with a two finger pinch but I cannot zoom out to decrease the font size.
Is this a bug, a setting I activated somewhere, a silly feature?
Thanks for advice,

Yes, the time and date is correct. It just started happening a few days ago and has bene like this since. I cant even open the mail, because theirs no content in them. Nor can i delete it.

• Image Size pop up menu missing in Mac Mail

Hi all,
I've just noticed a very frustrating problem with my mac mail which seems to have started recently, for no apparent reason. I have made no updates to my mac mail at all.
Basically when I attach and image to a new email, there used to be a pop up menu appear in the bottom right of the window where you can select the size of the image - small, medium, large or actual size.
This has randomly disappeared!
I cannot find any settings in the preferences for it to reappear. I have made no changes that would have caused this - at least not knowingly.
Any ideas as to how I can get the image size pop up menu to reappear when I am attaching images to a new email?

Well, it seems I have solved the problem. After searching all afternoon for a solution i thought i'd try the last thing on the list - quit mac mail and re open.
It worked!
The Image Size pop up menu now appears again when images are attached to the email.
Despite this, id still like to know what I did to remove it.
Any idea?

• Font sizes look small on screen

why do fonts look much smaller on my screen than they do in print? 12 point fonts look more like 4 point fonts. But if I up the screen size so I can see it (and my eyesight is not that bad), then if I print something it is humonguous. bad case of what you see is not what you get, anyone know why this is?

My only suggestion would be to reduce your resolution...
How have you got your page set up in word? If it shows the actual page (as it were), then it'd be a lot easier to guess what size it's gonna come out on the page...
You could always zoom in on the page in word?
But as mentioned, apple key and the + key will make the text appear large in firefox

• Firefox uses a weird font that looks like hexdecimal numbers in boxes

My Firefox looks very weird since some days. I tried reinstalling firefox, deleted my user files, but the font didnt change. Just starting in safe mode corrects this error.
here a link to a picture:
http://www.glowfoto.com/static_image/09-124048L/7825/png/12/2010/img4/glowfoto

Does that error only disappear if you start in [[Safe mode]] ?
You can try "Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults" on the [[Safe mode]] start window.
You can also try to disable the hardware acceleration:<br />
Tools > Options > Advanced : General: Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
Are you using the profile folder that you use with the 4.0 beta version with the Firefox 3.6.x version as well?

• Screen size and font size unreadable to set the access permissions for Flash Player.

I can increase my screen view size to make everything appear larger but the screen on Adobe website to manage the use of the Flash Player has very tiny writing that DOES NOT increase in size when I increase the size of my screen view.  It is not use user friendly nor compliant with common standards of web pages being accessible for people who have visual disablilities.  The font size looks like 6pt.
What does it take to make this giant company allow the window size of the settings to be enlarged or magnified?

They will stay on the screen.  However, Process Monitor is only intended for advanced users.  It is recommended that users try to navigate to the troublesome registry key using regedit, and see if they can access it or not without an error.  This is far easier than trying to use Process Monitor, which is very complicated.
I used Process Monitor to confirm that it was just that key which was causing the problem, and not others.  Process Monitor is not to be confused with the new Resource Monitor which is accessible via Task Manager in Windows 7 (and possibly Vista).  If you must experiment (and Process Monitor is very useful for diagnosing many deep-level problems if you know what you're looking for) Process Monitor can be downloaded from here:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645
It replaces the older Sysinternals "FileMon" and "RegMon".  For those interested in the technical side, I had to setup a number of filters to be able to get the results display as in the screenshot.  First of all to just show Registry events.  Then to just show events from the manual Flash activeX installer executable.  The I added a filter to show only non-successfull results.  And finally, for the purposes of the screenshot, added a filter to just show those with "Access Denied", since other non-critical errors are also picked up due to missing keys because installation has not yet been fully completed I guess.   When experimenting, most of these filters were applied using the "is not" boolean logic, which will make sense if you experiment with the program.
Without adding any filters, it picks up so many events (hundreds per second) that it's otherwise unusable.  e.g. 40,000 events within the first few seconds of opening the program. For this reason, I recommend simply using Regedit to diagnose the problem with the particular Flash registry key.

• Change application font size in Thunderbird 3.

How can I change the font size in Thunderbird 3? The bold fonts are to bold and the general font size is to big I think.
I have tested with creating a chrome folder in the default profile. The userChrome.css looks like this. But it didn't work.
* Edit this file and copy it as userChrome.css into your
* profile-directory/chrome/
* This file can be used to customize the look of Mozilla's user interface
* You should consider using !important on rules which you want to
* override default settings.
* Do not remove the @namespace line -- it's required for correct functioning
@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* set default namespace to XUL */
* Some possible accessibility enhancements:
* Make all the default font sizes 20 pt:
* font-size: 20pt !important
/* Global UI font */
font-size: 6pt !important;
EDIT: Seems like the bold font is a more global problem. This is from Firefox
I have installed the ubuntu patched fonts. My ~/.fonts.conf looks like this.
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM "fonts.dtd">

Yes of course. My bad.
Here it is. Some of the entries don't have a corresponding entry in conf.avail. I accidentally deleted 10-autohint.conf from conf.avail when I meant to delete it in conf.d. Ho do I get it back?
Have tested lxappearance to change the font in GTK applications. Works, but the boldness is not looking very good yet.

• Help to adjust font size on FORM

Hi ,
I am using APEX to do a online survey, some respondents said the survey form font size (default) is too small to read it clearly and don't know how to make the size look bigger.
Then I realized they are right, the font size of APEX form is predefined in template. I am wondering how to make the font size adjustable like normal htm page. if it is not possible, then how could I put font-size in somewhere to make it bigger?
Thanks in advance,
Edited by: user12768285 on Mar 8, 2010 6:47 AM

If you use Firefox with firebug you can exactly see where your fontsize has been set. You can override the standard CSS by either uploading and referencing your own CSS file or just add one inline CSS entry in your template.

• Change the "Font size" in a TLF Textfield with actionscript?

I could not realize how should I resize my TLF Textfiels in flash cs6 with actionscript??
None of these worked:
if (....)
         myTLFText.textSize++;
         myTLFText.fontSize++;
Error: Access of possibly undefined property size through a reference with static type fl.text:TLFTextField.
I appreciate your kind help please??

Here is the part of code I am using to resize the textfield (and other elements).
/******SET POSITION**********/
function setPosition():void
          //Position appBG
          appBG.height = stage.stageHeight;
          appBG.width = appBG.height;
          //Fit the appTXT in middle of screen  (AppTXT is a MovieClip contains sourceText - RTLTextField)
          appTXT.sourceText.width = stage.stageWidth * 0.9;
          appTXT.sourceText.x = stage.stageWidth * 0.05;
          appTXT.sourceText.y = stage.stageHeight * 0.1;
          //Fit the maskText layer on top of text;
          maskText.width = appTXT.sourceText.width;
          maskText.height = stage.stageHeight * 0.8;
          maskText.x = stage.stageWidth * 0.05;
          maskText.y = stage.stageHeight * 0.1;
          //Set buttons in their proper position
          if (stage.stageWidth > stage.stageHeight)
                appBG.width = stage.stageWidth;
                appBG.height = appBG.width;
          appBG.x = stage.stageWidth / 2;
          appBG.y = stage.stageHeight / 2;
Everything works fine, but when I install the apk on my Google nexus (800x1280), the font size looks VERY SMALL and I can hardly read it!
If I increase the Font size pt (Red Arrow in above PrntScr) to 40. then it reads perfect on phones with 800x1280 screen size. Ok?  But then any OTHER smaller screen cell phones will see the font TOO BIG!
So I need to set the Font size pt by CODE based on a percent of stageWidth to could solve this. thx.
