My 13" MBP froze during the 10.8.5 update.

My wife's computer has been running on 10.6 until I convinced her to let me update it to 10.8. I bought 10.8, installed it, and it ran fine. After it was done and the computer was set up, I checked for updates to install the latest version of everything. I started the install of 10.8.5 while the MBP was plugged in. The computer restarted, and it didn't take long for the progress bar to become full. At that point, as I would assume, the computer would restart again and everything would go back to normal. However, after the update was done installing/downloading/whatever it was doing, the screen went black, the light on the front stayed on at half-brightness, and it beeped once. It's been 30 minutes and nothing has changed. The screen is still off, the light is still on, and it's not doing anything. I pressed and held the power button, and it turned off, but didn't make the typical noise that occurs when you force shut down a computer. I turned it back on, and only the light turned on.  I'm scared I ruined this computer by doing a normal software update. What do I do?

it beeped once.
Beeps are an indication there's a problem with the RAM  (memory)
Power On Self-Test Beep Definition
Probably time to replace the RAM.
You can uninstall and install RAM yourself >  MacBook Pro: How to remove or install memory
You can purchase RAM online. Crucial comes highly recommended > Crucial.com
Or, you can take the Mac to an Apple Store or Apple certified repair provider > Apple - Find Locations

  • HT1766 My computer froze during the restoration process. It didn't work and now it won't let me restore and the passcode still shows up. What do I do?

I forgot my iPod passcode. I've done the "back up ipod" and restore.
My computer froze in the last 13 seconds and shut off and turned back on.
I tried redoing the whole process, but it won't let me do it.
The passcode is still there and I don't know what to do.

    If screen-lock passcode
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

  • During the installation of iTune update received error message C runtime Library error 7 1114, R6034. Unable to now open my itunes. How do I fix this?

During the update of iTunes to my desktop, I received the error message: C:runtime error. R6034 Error 7 1114. What does this mean and how do I fix it?
Not that computer savvy so please walk me through the fix in simple terms. Thanks

    Hey lucky scruffy,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with iTunes for Windows. The following article outlines the error message you are receiving and a potential resolution:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
Some Windows customers may experience installation issues while trying to install or open iTunes 11.1.4.
    Symptoms may include:
"The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer"
"iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows Error 126)”
"Runtime Error: R6034 - An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly"
"Entry point not found: videoTracks@QTMovie@@QBE?AV?$Vector@V?$RefPtr@VQTTrack@@@***@@$0A@VCrashOnOverf low@@***@@XZ could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\WebKit.dll”
    Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    Check for .dll files
    1. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
    2. If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    3. Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
    1. Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
    2. Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using theMicrosoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    3. Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
    Thanks,

  • My Ipod Touch 4 froze during the actualization and is stuck half-way though loading from few days now. How can I reset it? I tried everything and it wont even switch on. HELP!

It wont switch off or keep loading. I switched it off from the itunes, on, off, on, and back again. The load bar ?(the one under the apple sign when your ipod is switched off and loading) is not even half way through loaded. Is there a special button to reset the ipod? I honestly care If i lose all info. I just want it on!!!

If it is currently off, you can put it in recovery mode then do a restore, then restrore from backup. I have a history with...kinda...messing with my iPod Touch so I had bricked it a lot. You can put it in recovery mode by:
Having your USB charger connected to the computer already
    iPod off
Now you hold down the iPod home button, keep the iPod off though.
Now, while you are still holding the button, plug it into the computer.
Keep holding on to the button until a screen with a USB cable and an iTunes logo show up.
Now open your iTunes on the computer and do a restore.
Honestly, this is my last stand, I hope this helps!

  • My iPad froze during the latest update,

I've tried to reset it and turn it off but it just keeps coming back to the same screeen with the cable and the iTunes logo. I backed it up immediately before updating but I can't get my laptop to recognize the device

The iTunes icon and cable means that it's gone into recovery mode. If your computer's iTunes isn't recognising the iPad so that you can reset it back to factory defaults and restore to your back then try the troubleshooting on one of these pages :
PC : iPhone, iPad, or iPod not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support
Mac : If you don't see your connected device in iTunes for Mac - Apple Support

  • IPhone 3GS froze during iOS 5.1.1 update - how do I get out of recovery mode without having to restore?

So I tried to update my iPhone 3GS to iOS 5.1.1, like iTunes told me to do, and it froze part way through the installation for a couple of hours.  I tried to "reset" the iPhone by pressing both the home and power buttons simultaneously, but now iTunes tells me my iPhone is in recovery mode.  From my limited knowledge, it seems I need to restore my iPhone, but I don't want to lose anything, like my SMS history.
Is there a way to get out of recovery mode without having to restore?
    Thanks!

I came across this post as my iPhone 3Gs had gone into recovery mode on its own accord.   I had hundreds of photos unsaved and was gutted when I saw this post, I felt even worse as it was not the information (gdgmacguy) I wanted to read.
Unfortunately, the above post is simply wrong! A system cannot destroy information in a blink of an eye.   If it were that easy, the forensic teams across the world would have a hard time.  A criminal could simply force a phone into recovery to remove all the data.  Please!
I managed not only to take the phone out of recovery mode but also, salvaged all the data held on it.
To be fair, I am a little annoyed at Apple for not offering a salvage option on the device for such a situation.  And it may be that they will not like me sharing this information, in which case I believe this view to be morally wrong because photos are so important.  We all make mistakes, in terms of forgetting to backup from time to time.
What I used was the Redsn0w software, running as an administrator in XP compatibility mode.  In the ‘Extras’ section it as a Recovery Fix option.  It simply runs some software that takes the device out of recovery mode.  I had to run it twice for some reason but the second time (out of desperation) worked a treat.  The phone is now exactly as it was before it went into recovery mode.  More to the point, it allowed me to backup all the photos and videos that I had failed to do before hand.  And let’s face it, photos and videos are usually the most valuable stuff we keep on our phones.
I hope this help anyone in the same situation. I really hope someone from apple reads it and is able to convince the bosses that a recovery option is very important.  And to take note that YES it is possible to recover data on a phone stuck in recovery mode.  And more than likely it would be easier for apple, compared to other non-apple professionals.
    Good luck.

  • IPod Touch froze during restoration

I recently was given a first generation iPod Touch.  About 2 days ago I paid for the iOS 3.1 download and started the process.  It seems that everything worked fine on the computer, but my iPod froze during the process on the iPod screen with the apple and loading bar.  Today, I tried to hook it back to iTunes to finish the process, and all it would do is sync with the screen still frozen.  I tried today to restore it, and it got stuck on the same screen as it's been frozen on with the loading bar a little further than before.
Do you know what's wrong with it? What should I do?
    Thanks so much!

I don't think this is an individual hardware problem as so many people have reported the same incident and plenty others probably don't know about the site. I am having this problem with itunes 8.1. While my ipod touch is recognized by it perfectly my 60gb ipod video is not recognized by it. I have tried all the recommended solutions in the support section and nothing helps. Apple needs to fix this problem ASAP.

  • My phone froze during a game and when I went to hard boot, it got stuck during shot off. What do I do now?

My phone 4S froze during a game. I went to hard boot to turn off and it did nothing for 15 minutes. Then it froze during the hard boot. It has been stuck now for over two hours. What do I do know?

First open the iPhoto Library package with the Finder as shown in this screenshot:'
Look for the file named iPhotoLock.data and move it to the Trash in the Dock. Launch iPhoto and see if that helped.
If not Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • IPod froze during ios update

I tried to update my iPod Touch 4th Generation with the new ios6 release but it froze during the update. Now all I get when I try to turn the iPod on is a blank screen. Can anyone advise me?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • MacBook Pro froze during software update, now it's stuck at gray screen

My MacBook Pro was running a little slow today so I did a Disk Utility repair and that went fine then I did a software update (OS X, Java and remote desktop) but it froze during the last ten percent of the update install and now when I boot up it won't get past the gray apple screen. I tried to restore Lion but since I bought this used my Apple ID wasn't used to purchase Lion so I can't do a restore.
I've tried to safe boot and boot from a CD but no go.
I also tried the short and long Apple hardware tests and those found no problems

In case anyone else needs an answer to this, I called in to Apple. Tech support said to power it off and let it reboot itself. I had to go back into updates and tell it to finish the install (restart computer, was the only step remaining) and it worked fine. It took longer because it had gotten hung up during the previous restart. ( Just to clarify, I was stuck on the grey screen after the restart step of the install.)

  • MacBook Pro Froze During Windows Installation

I am running Mavericks lastest update on mid-2012 MacBook Pro.  I was installing Windows and following the directions provided in the Apple Support Communities.........the MacBook froze during the installation of Windows after I answered the prompt about the size of the partition........800 GhB for Mac and 200GhB for Windows 7.  I now have a blank grey screen on the MacBook.  I get the Apple boot-up when I press the Power up button but nothing happens.
How can I reboot and start the installation over?
    Thanks very much.

Correction:  I get the Apple boot-up sound when I press the Power button but nothing then happens other than the same grey screen.
