My 1670 CDS HDD is crashed

Hi, my internal harddisk (6.0 Gb S.M.A.R.T.) is crashed, I can't use Fdisk anymore so, it's over for me. Does anyone know what harddisk is inside my notebook? Does anyone know if I can put a bigger (20Gb) harddisk in my notebook and can I run WinXP on it? How much memory do I need to run XP on a bigger HDD. How do I replace my harddisk anyhow.
If you respond, please don't use difficult words, I'm dutch and my technical english is not real good. Thanks

Hello
In my opinion the unit should run well using OS but you should use max RAM memory (160 MB is max). I have found information that the computer supports a 6.0 GB HDD, up to 10.0 GB HDD.
As far as I know HDD is placed under the keyboard. If you want to exchange it alone you must first remove the strip cover. It is a plastic part and is placed over the keyboard. Under this cover you can find screws who fix the keyboard. Remove them and gently lift the keyboard. Now you can see a HDD.
If you have no much experience don`t do it alone. You can damage some other hardware components.
Good luck!

  • How to recover data from an External HDD partition crash?

i was partitioning my external HDD into two partition with pre existing data on one portion to make a time maching on the other one. it crashed in the process and now i have lost 500gb of media. help

    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as MAC Data Recovery, Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. Recovery software usually provide trial versions that enable you to determine if the software would help before actually paying for it. Beyond this or if the drive has completely failed, then you would need to send the drive to a recovery service which is very expensive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

  • I am running acrobat 7.0 pro - my hdd recently crashed without warning - i am now unable to re-activate my acrobat 7.0 pro - help please...thanks in advance.

Hello - I am trying to re-activate my acrobat 7.0 pro on my new hdd after my old hdd crashed. Can anyone help: thanks in advance ...russ22

    Hi russ22,
There's a lot of that going around lately (hard drive crashes). Sorry to hear that!
It sounds like you've reached the maximum activations allowed, and because your hard drive crashed, of course you can't deactivate the copy that was installed there. But don't worry--Customer Care should be able to take care of that deactivation for you. Please Contact Customer Care.
    Best,

  • Satellite 5000 - HDD is crashing

    Hi all,
does anyone know of a tool to check my HDD? Or does anyone know if one can read the S.M.A.R.T. info out of the HDD firmware? I heard that the S.M.A.R.T. info can indicate if the HDD is failing?
Any tips on a diagnostics tool would be great to have!!
    Rusty

    Hi Rusty
You might be able to read some things out of the disk by using software from this site:
    http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm
But please be aware that I did not test this software so much myself and it might not give You the results You hope for.
Also remember that using theese kind of software might erase your data!!
    Good luck
    Tom

  • My hdd has crashed in 3 months, my computer is not even 12 months old.

i have a too twice reload the software and i do have a time machine , but it doesnt all load correctly. im a avid Apple fan, but this experience is really giving me the *****.

Before your free, one-year of AppleCare warranty service expires, budget,   purchase, and register with Apple for extended AppleCare warranty  for your Mac.
You'll have extended warranty service for another two more years.
The cost of the extended warranty is a smaller cost than the cost of an actual repair and replacement job if some other hardware or same hardware fails again on your Mac.

  • Itunes crashes with audio CDs

Recently, I've had very frequent problems with iTunes crashing when playing commercial audio CDs. The crash usually happens at one of the following times
    - When a CD is inserted (if it's a new CD, the crash happens after iTunes has retrieved data from CDDB, but before the CD appears in iTunes).
    - When starting to play a CD.
    - When a CD has finished playing.
    - When ejecting a CD.
Sometimes it also crashes in the middle of playing a CD, but the crash usually happens at one of the points listed above.
The crashes started about a month ago, after I updated to iTunes 8.2. I tried reverting to iTunes 8.1.1, but that didn't stop the crashes.
Here's what I've tried so far:
    - reinstalled iTunes (tried both 8.1.1 and 8.2)
    - deleted preferences
    - rebuilt library
    - repaired permissions
    - used DiskWarrior to rebuild directory
    - re-installed OS X (archive and install)
But it's still crashing after all of that. It doesn't crash when playing mp3 or AAC files from my iTunes library, but it's crashing almost half the time I try to play a CD.
Any ideas of what might be going wrong or what else I might try?
Looking in the console log, the crash generally seems to be either a segmentation fault or a bus error.
Here's what I think are the relevant portions of some of the iTuunes crash logs:

More crashes... One other time it crashes that I didn't mention above is when I insert an audio CD that I haven't played before. iTunes queries CDDB and then crashes pretty consistently. That and when a CD finishes playing are probably the most common, though it sometimes crashes in the middle of playing a CD (often when I've just done something else, such as editing information for some tracks in my library).
Not that anyone seems to be paying attention to this thread, but here's some more crash log excerpts. I'm noticing that most of my crashes are happening on thread 0 at 0x00003bd5 0x1000 + 11221, though there are a few on other threads (though thread 0 also seems to be at 0x00003bd5 0x1000 + 11221, even though it's not the thread that crashed)
The most common error I'm getting is a segmentation fault:

My old computer (a Sony) with my iTunes crashed. I have a new MAC and want to make sure I can keep all of my music (mostly from old CD's that have been lost). I bought iTunes match hoping that would work but it isn't using the data on my phone. HELP!

Since you have purchased a new Mac (which, BTW, is not typed in all capitals) why not buy a Time Capsule <http://www.apple.com/airport-time-capsule/> which is designed specifically to work with OS X and Time Machine?
You don't say what part of your Sony "crashed." If it was not the HDD it is possible to take the computer apart, put the HDD in an external case, then recover the data off of it (including the music) simply drag-n-drop. If it was the HDD that "crashed" that makes it more difficult.
If you are able to recover the music from the Sony you can then add it to the iTunes library on the Mac and iTunes Match will then scan, match and upload the tracks to be mirrored in the cloud.

  • Satellite A40: HDD no longer works

I have a Toshiba Satellite A40 with a 40GB hard drive which was supplied as standard.
I have had absolutely no problems with it since buying it... until now.
On the 19th of September I left my laptop on (doing nothing) for a while as I had to rush off. I returned to the 'blue screen of death' which said I had a hardware failure and Windows had to shut down. It was late so I turned the laptop off and left it until the morning.
The following morning I started the laptop up. It made an awful rattling noise that it has never made before. It loaded windows extremely slowly, logged me in, and then crashed to the blue screen.
When I listened to the noise I thought it was the fan, which is blocked would cause the laptop to overheat and shutdown. So I checked the fan for obstructions and dust, and then cleaned some dust out of the heatsink at the back. I turned the laptop on and the noise came back.
After listening to the noise more closely I heard it wasn't coming from the fan, but from the compartment just in front of it - the hard drive. From then on when I started the computer I got the Toshiba POST screen and then it wouldn't boot. I booted it from the Recovery CD to re-format the HD but whenever it tries to read the HD to start re-formatting it crashes. And now, whenever I turn it on I get the message 'Insert System Disc'.
I have had this problem before with another computer and simply re-installed windows, but, I've never had such a loud and awful noise from the HD. I'm going to try to re-install windows later today but wanted to know if anyone else has had a similar problem and if it would be wise to replace the HD altogether. Preferabbly I want to re-install Windows and recover the lost files which unfortuently weren't backed up as I only typed them up that very same day.
Any comments or ideas would be very helpful.
    Thanks.

    Hi
For me the case is very clear. According to you description it sounds like a HDD head crash. The sound is coming from inside of the HDD.
Furthermore the message 'Insert System Disc' appears because the BIOS cannot find the HDD or the OS.
Well, unfortunately, in my opinion there is not much to do. I think only the HDD replacement will solve this issue and let you to use the notebook again.
    Good luck

  • I am unable to erase hard drive after a crash, also cannot reinstall Lion because disk is locked.  There seems to be nothing else to do, suggestions?  Where do I go from here?

I downloaded Lion 100 days ago (conveniently after the 90 day tech support)  now my HDD has crashed and it gets stuck at the apple screen.  I then hold command R and go to disc utility try to repair, that doesn't work, and try to erase.  But it says error, cannot unmount disk.  I then try to reload Lion, but it says the disk is locked.  Okay, so do I need a new hard drive?  If so that's fine, I just cannot seem to erase this drive to reinstall lion.  Also, I don't have a disk to reinstall OSx, as Lion is done via internet.

Wow, thanks.  It did the trick.  So now I am confused, do you think I still need to take in my Mac to see if there are some problems with the hard drive, or do you think I'm in the clear.  I was going to get a new hard drive installed, because I thought that was the issue seeing as I couldn't access it during safe mode.

  • How to install OS X in a 500gb HDD on a A1181 maccbook

I have an old A1181 maccbok (13 inch late 2006) whitch hdd (120gb) crashed. I bought a brand new Toshiba MA01ADV050 hdd (500gb) that I want to replaced the crashed one. Is it possible?
I have replaced the drive but when I start the machine pressing the C key, it hangs with the apple and the spinner spinning.
    Thaks.

At some point it will ask you to select a WiFi network name, if you have WiFi, and the password for it or you can Wire the Mac to your internet router with an Ethernet cable.
If you have no internet access at all you are, what they call, SOL. You'll need to get an internet connection to reinstall OS X.

  • Pre10 crashes, hangs, and "Error compiling movie. Unknown error."

I'm using Premiere Elements 10.0 and an am having a lot of trouble.  On a simple project (just half a dozen video clips with audio and some DVD menu stuff) I din't have much trouble. However my bigger project (which is the reason I bought PRE10) isn't working well at all.  My pc specs are at the bottom of the post.
Issue 1.  about a third of the time, when starting PRE10, the opening welcome screen comes up, I hit 'Open Project', it start to load, then gets an error.  With this error I also get an entry in windows event viewer, application log of:  Faulting application adobe premiere elements.exe, version 10.0.0.0, faulting module gdiplus.dll, version 5.2.6002.22509, fault address 0x0000f47d.
If I get past that bug, the PRE sometimes just freezes up (a couple times with the audio track still playing, but otherwise frozen).
After many frustrating hours, I think I'm close to having my project complete, and now PRE won't render and create a file.  I've tried just a short snippet, or the entire thing - either way it renders for a while (just a few minutes), then gives the subject line error message - "Unknown error" isn't very helpful!   Once, after getting this error an I let it sit there a whle, it then gave the same gdipluss.dll fault that I typically see on startup.
I'd love to have all of these issues solved, but I most important thing is being about to get some sort of output!  I've tried a variety of output format, all do the same thing (mpeg2, avchd, dvd, hdtv, etc.)
    Thanks
    Charles
    Details:
    - video format is AVCHD (m2ts) coming from a Panasonic HDC-TM90.
    - mostly a single video track with audio, sometimes a second video track layered on top
    - narration track in .wav format
    - soundtrack in .wav format
    - roughly 30 minutes long
    - video files are coming off of the external usb 500GB drive
    - I've played with setting the rendering location to the mostly empty E: drive or the mostly full C: drive - no difference
    - I see from other posts about crashes that a key question is what is the project format set to.  How do I tell??  I chose that a month back (been working on this off and on for a while...) and I don't remember, and don't see how to check the current settings.

For the Project Settings, choose Edit>Project Settings, and you can see them all, with the General Tab (most important), Capture (should not affect your Project), Video Rendering (again, should not have much info for you now), and Default Timeline (defines how the Timeline is set up initially, and not of any real use here).
Now, and with the Source Files and Project on your E:\, or your external HDD, how much free-space is on your C:\. That can be very important, especially as with only 2GB RAM, you WILL be using your Windows Page File (Virtual Memory) often, and heavily.
Now, though this is covered in one of the links in the PrE Crashing & Hanging article (Memory & Resources), how is your Page File managed, and is it located on your C:\?
Also, is your Project file (the PREL) located with the Source Files, on either E:\, or your external HDD? I know that you have tried several locations. Also, where are your Scratch Disks (Edit>Preferences) set to? Those can be very large, and if one has them pointed to a nearly full HDD, can crash things.
Last, at least for now, is your F:\ your external HDD? If so, it is formatted FAT-32, and that limits file sizes to ~ 4GB. This ARTICLE will tell you how to Convert a FAT-32 HDD to NTSF.

  • Logicboard/HDD???  any idea's??

Well guy's I haven't been around in years and recently found myself in a situation. It's a bit complicated. I've done some research about my problem before realizing I cant figure this out without taking the computer into the shop. However with the economy the way it is, I don't have extra cash to pay apple. Anyways, I'm going to do my best to describe the problem.
The computer boots up normally, however it will NOT go past the apple screen.
That's pretty much all that's happening in a nutshell. While it's booting up, everything seems to be normal. Normal sounds/cd rom does it's deal and even sounds like the hdd spins.
Things I've already tried: First off, I tried to reinstall the o/s several times. While it worked for a bit at first, it soon began stop booting up: back to stopping at apple screen. Now, it will not let me install the os.
Tried to partition the hdd and that did not work.
I'm bummed with the response I got from apple today after no one would help me without me paying fees. I realize they can fix it and I can't, I would just like to get tossed in the right direction so I can fix it myself.
I've read logic boards going out in these computers, has any experienced this? What does the computer do when the LB goes out? Anything in particular? Also, is a LB even possible to change yourself? I hope its just the HDD that crashed, i'd much rather install a new HDD instead of anything else.
If anyone has any idea's I'd appreciate it. If not I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and take it in.
    Thanks a lot

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
First thing I'd do is run the Apple hardware test. Find the original OS X disk 1, which should say in small print on the label 'AHT Version x.x'. You didn't indicate what model PowerBook you have, if it's an older one the AHT image may be located at http://www.info.apple.com/support/aht.html. If you have a TechTool disk it can do the same tests. Insert the OS X disk and reboot holding the option key down. Choose the AHT, click the arrow to the right, and choose the extended test when prompted. Does that identify any issues.
When you boot from the OS X CD, and bring up disk utility, can it see the hard drive? If you say repair it, does it come back with any errors?

  • XP crashes when lid closed on MacBookPro

Has anyone else experienced XP crashing when closing the lid on a MacBookPro? Every time without exception when I open the lid it goes to a blue screen and restarts. The power options are set to go to StandBy when the lid is closed.
    I'm running Bootcamp 1.1.2

The S4 System State (Hibernation) must be supported by your notebooks ACPI implementation.
If this is not supported, the hibernation tab would not be available.
But if the hibernation worked before the HDD has crashed, then this means that the hardware should support this feature
Therefore I would recommend checking the BIOS.
Please set the BIOS to default settings and save the changes.

When I bought a new Mac and transferred my library, my purchased songs/movies didn't go with it. Now I can't find them. I thought I remember seeing them with a little cloud icon but I don't even see that anymore.
