My 17" MBP shipped from Shanghai this morning!!!

The shipping date has always been May 8 and I just checked and it says it went out at 8PM local time (8AM eastern time) via Fed Ex.
Has anyone else gotten one yet?
I'm hoping I will get it Saturday.
This is what happened with the G5...

Sweet Sean!! I'm excited for you. Let us know what you think about it when you get it. In fact, send me an email with your thoughts if you don't mind or I'll just mark this thread for RSS. Thanks.

I received an ITunes and Quicktime update notice on my Windows 7 PC, from Apple this morning. During the update installation, RealPlayer installed. What gives? Why is Realplayer installing with the Apple software.

Thanks for the reply. I went back to check if there was a history in windows (Event Viewer) but could not locate it in Win7. The only updates that were in the Apple Updater window were the Quicktime and ITunes. Had I let the Realplayer continue on its own, it would have installed the Google Chrome and other apps. I let it finish installing and then removed the entire program. I do not remember checking or seeing anything saying that realplayer was being downloaded until after a reboot was requested from the ITunes Update Installer.
I just thought it was strange since I do not use Realplayer and have not downloaded any software for it.
I am on a corporate PC with a pretty thick firewall, but something may have slipped through.
    Thanks again for the assistance.

  • MBP i7 shipping from Shanghai, China!?

I finally got a FedEx notice that my 15" MBP just shipped... from Shanghai, China. Why does this give me pause? I'm sure that's the origin of all Apple products anyway, but I guess I'm worried that there is a level of QA-check that will be missing.
It's probably nothing, but in the past I'd always bought from an Apple store. Was quite surprised to see "Shanghai, China" on the FedEx departure location. That's quite a long (and I'm sure rough) journey.
    Keeping fingers crossed...

You're right, of course, and I think most Americans are aware (especially those who've lost their US-based manufacturing jobs over the years) that pretty much everything is manufactured overseas... or north/south of the border.
There are still some complete machines still assembled in the US. It's getting rare though.
However, that's not really my issue. I have this crazy notion that products bought from the Apple stores undergo one final check for possible shipping damage or manufacturing defects before being sold. I'm sure that's a false assumption, but it gives me a warm fuzzy nonetheless.
Highly unlikely. Everything comes complete from the factory sealed and ready for sale. The packaging contains everything needed. They won't even think of turning anything on, because most people want their machines to initially fire up just like it came from the factory. All the booklets, packaged accessories, and discs are packed at the final assembly point, and they're primarily produced by local manufacturers.
Apple's subcontractors are established Taiwanese manufacturers like Foxconn, Quanta, and Acer. Personally I think their manufacturing standards were slightly higher when their primary assembly was in Taiwan, but those days are primarily over. They do maintain their own QC personnel at these newer factories in mainland China, and in general the quality is pretty high. Definitely better than most PRC only manufacturing facilities.

  • My MBP wouldn't start this morning, it was just stuck on white screen with grey logo and fan running.  I replaced my magsafe power cord and resolved starting issue.  Now I can't connect to internet and iTunes won't load???  Help?

This morning I was just getting the white screen with logo and status bar with fan running.  I thought it was an issue with the power adapter so I went out and replaced it.  MBP will start now, but won't connect to internet.  I have full wi-fi signal.  Also, when I try to launch iTunes, it just quits right away.  Please help?

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • My MBP started to wobble this morning

    Hi,
This morning my unibody MBP (bought last november) has started to wobble on perfectly flat surfaces. The problem seems to be the feet in the right-low corner. It doesn't wobble when the screen is closed (and, by the way, the closed screen doesn't perfectly align with the body but I wasn't caring about this).
I've checked the rear battery cover and it's perfectly in its place (it never moved, anyway).
This is very annoying, after spending so much money for this machine.
    How come can this happen?
Does anybody has a comment about this?
    Thanks and best regards!

Hi again, muju. Take the battery cover off the underside of your MBP and look at the outside walls of the computer case. They are thin. They are all one piece, but they certainly aren't armor that one can reasonably expect to be impervious to harm. The MBP's unibody construction greatly reduces the problem that many older Powerbooks and MBPs had with screws gradually working loose in their cases and the cases losing structural rigidity as a result. But just the same, the new MBP is a delicate precision instrument. There is no magic in a unitized body; it doesn't make aluminum any stiffer or stronger than aluminum naturally is. The MBP is a thin aluminum skin wrapped around a lot of delicate, expensive insides, and it needs to be handled with care.
You can take the MBP to an Apple Store and talk to a Genius about the problem, but I suspect that a repair will be very expensive and not covered by your warranty, since the damage occurred while the machine was in your possession.

  • Three movies I bought from iTunes this morning do not show up on the 1st Gen AppleTV.

I understand some file formats are not compatible with AppleTV (1st gen) but these films were purchased directly from iTunes.  One would assume they are formatted properly to work on Apple equipment, yes?  Previously purchased movies show up on the AppleTV just fine, so I'm not sure what's going with these three.  They were from the $4.99 Sci Fi collection:  Enemy Mine, Dune and Terminator 2.  Oldies but goodies.  The iMac, where the iTunes Library lives is used to stream the content to the AppleTV, and everything that is in my Library appears to be available for streaming, except these three films.  Any advice?

I have now restored Factory Settings on the Apple TV. Looked promising until iTunes hangs everytime I tried to enter the podcast page of the sync options. And I get errors that my newest movies, created in Final Cut Pro X with the Share with 720p Apple Devices export settings are not compatible with Apple TV.
    Unbelievable.

  • How do I add music from a music cd on a MacBook Pro?  Up until this morning I got a window that asked me if I wanted to record or play the cd I just inserted.  Now that window no longer appears.  Any suggestions on how to rectify this?

How do I record music from a music cd to my MacBook Pro?  Up until this morning I would get a pop up window that asked if I wanted to play or record the disc I just put in.  That screen no longer appears - a disk starts to play.  I can stop the auto play but how do I add the music to my existing music collection?
    Thanks

Do you mean "how do you rip a CD to iTunes?" If so, just insert the CD into the optical drive of the MBP, launch iTunes, edit the ID3 tags to show what you want, then click the "import" button in the lower right corner of the window.

  • Hi, i have a MBP 13, late 2012. Its over an year old since purchase and now out of warranty. This morning the computer did not boot so i went down to apple store and they looked at it and said its a logic board failure requiring replacement worth£350

Hi, i have a macbookpro 13, late 2012. I bought it last year october and its an year old and now out of warranty. This morning the computer did not boot, so i went down to apple store and they looked at it and said its a logic board failure and needs replacement worth £350. The tech at apple store gave no explanation, why suddenly, my computer decided not to start at all and said to me it was a logic board failure for no apparent reason and requires replacement. I have maintained the laptop in a pristine condition. Now I feel I have been cheated. This clearly means the product is substandard as a £1100 laptop is not expected to fail in just over a year. My last laptop PC which was worth £450 served me for 4 years before it crashed and lived for another 2 years until I decided to get a mac. This is ridiculous. I don't have apple care at the moment which translates as pay to get it fixed. Anybody in my situation ? I want to sue apple for selling me a substandard good . Any thoughts? Should I go for another pc for £500 because there is no guarantee even after the laptop were fixed by apple for £350 it would last for another year. I need a reliable machine.

This morning my MBP just woke up from sleep and is working without any glitches. I don't know what to say about this.

  • My MBP desktop came up "paisley print" this morning. What gives?

Using MacBook Pro, purchased Aug 2013
This morning upon wakening MBP from sleep, the desktop came up "paisley print", and then went to completely pixellated. I tried looking at PhotoShop elements first because that was the last program I used. The Edit screen came up its usual gray and black, with very little or no pixellation. I went to Preferences where everything was pix., then clicked on color, my regular desktop appeared as it should, no pix. I then clicked display and it was fine, too.  My last two Macs, one the original iMac (white dome) and the first Mac Book Pro, did similar things before dying. Can anyone give me some ideas about what is going on and what needs to be done?

    Hi Newyorkee,
Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
You mention that your MacBook Pro is showing pixelation or a "paisley print" on the screen.
I recommend trying these troubleshooting steps to address the issue:
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
    From:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays - Apple Support
Next, try booting into Safe Mode to see if the pixelation happens there:
    Starting up in Safe Mode
Follow these steps to start up into Safe Mode.
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be pressed as soon as possible after startup, but not before the startup sound.
Release the Shift key when you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.
After the Apple logo appears, it may take longer than usual to reach the login screen. This is because your computer is performing a directory check as part of Safe Mode.
To leave Safe Mode, restart your computer without pressing any keys during startup.
    From:
OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? - Apple Support
If the display looks the same after trying all of these steps, the article above recommends contacting Apple Support or visiting an Apple Store or Authorized Service Provider:
If you tried all of these steps for your display and the video issues persist, contact Apple technical support or take your Apple computer to the nearest Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for diagnosis. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail Store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).
Note: Diagnostic fees may apply for issues not covered under warranty or the AppleCare Protection Plan (APP).
    Best Regards,
    Jeremy

  • I purchased a movie from Apple Tv at 9am this morning it is still downloading does it normally take this long, I purchased a movie from Apple Tv at 9am this morning it is still downloading does it normally take this long

I have double checked that the apple tv is connected to my wifi (as my I-phone is working correctly) I downlaoded the update page from apple tv, how ever the movie I rented this morning is still downlaoding 9 its 3:30pm) my kids tell me it should only take a couple of minutes is there anything I can check???

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.

I have an iphone4 (Verizon) and an iPad (AT&T), and starting this morning, neither one is receiving my mail from Yahoo. I can send an email from Yahoo on both devices, but I can't see any messages. It's clear that both devices know how many messages are in my inbox and how many are unread (I get a "Load More Messages" notice. Any ideas on how this can be fixed? After reading thru some discussions, it looks like the new operating system may be to blame. I only updated in the last few days... Help!

Yahoo's mail service is notoriously buggy.  It's not your phone or your device.

Started a Itunes software update this morning which didn't work.  Now Itunes will not open at all.  I get the following message."The program can't state becasue MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer."

There are a couple of options that I know of to fix the issue.
One is listed in this thread - https://discussions.apple.com/message/24606478#24606478 - and involves uninstalling iTunes and related components and then re-installing iTunes.  You will need to read the instructions in the thread to see the correct uninstall order.
Second option is use System Restore to set your system back to a date prior to the iTunes update.  I did this before finding the thread mentioned above.
Not sure exactly what the problem is but I know, after a search, that MSVCR80.dll was indeed already installed on my computer.

    Question
I can no longer send or respond to email from my Firefox browser. I closed and sent from Internet explorer and it works fine. What changed? The only thing different this morning, I downloaded Adobe uprade?

I had this hotmail issue myself a while back. I Googled, scanned MS website, scanned MSN website, visited forums, couldn't figure it out. I tried Firefox and Opera and even changed the Opera mask setting from Opera to Internet Explorer. Nothing worked. My best guess was that I was signing on (with the new MSN Live as opposed to MSN Hotmail - the OLD interface) with the "Remember me on this computer?" box checked. I now make sure it is un-checked (which is not the default) and hotmail lets me in.
Not exactly sure if that is the real remedy, but thot I'd throw the story your way just in case...
