As it says in the title,my 1st generation iPad will not connect or be recognizes by my computer. Yet my computer has no problems with my iPhone or my itouch. What am I doing wrong? Something in the settings? I have no clue, please help

Today, when I turned on my iMac, neither my bluetooth mouse or keyboard were recognized. I had to connect my old USB keyboard-mouse to type this message.
And yes, I restarted my iMac, didn't help.
    Can someone help?
PS: Barry, "resetting SMC" doesn't help

    Hello casinojen,
I would be concerned as well if my iPad was not recognized by iTunes.  Thank you for providing all the information with the steps you took in regards to this issue.  I found an article with a few more steps you can take (you can skip the steps you have already taken):

    Any ideas?

My iPad is not being recognized by the computer, therefore, cannot sync.  It charges when plugged to the wall, but not when pugged to iMac.

Most common culprits include the cable. Try swapping it out for a different one.. or not having the most recent version of itunes. I once even solved this problem by shutting down the computer for 2 minutes. (the longer the better), with the ipad plugged in. starting it up... then itunes recognizes it, launches, and syncs.
Apple has a troubleshooting assistant on this topic:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/assistant/itunes/
It will advise you to reboot. I recommend shutting down instead.

P.S The ipad should charge when asleep and plugged into your Mac. The charging behavior is normal. There isn't enough power out the USB ports to charge the ipad while it is on on some older Macs and nearly all PCs.

  • My iPad is not being recognized by iTunes...

My iPad is not being recognized by iTunes.  I am trying to sync with my desktop so that I can reset everything since a train wreck associated with provider change has occured.  I've tried my iPod as well, and it isn't being recognized either.
Does anyone have any suggestions for this type of situation.  I thought it might be my power cord (so I reordered a new one), but the iPod uses a different one so don't think that is the issue now.
Many thanks in advance for all who respond to this scream of frustration.

  • My 1st gen iPad is not recognized by my PC, my iMac or my macbook.  it's charged, connected directly to the usb port, shows the connect to iTunes screen,  but is not in the device list on the pc or iTunes??  I have reset it repeatedly, and rebooted???

I am conneting my Ipad to mutiple Pcs, (windows and Mac) and it is not being recognized in the device list on itunes or the computers.  the ipad is fully charged, I have reset it numerous times and it gives me the apple icon and then the "connect to itunes" message.... but dose nothing after that.  I had it all set up and gave it to my daughter who tried to sync it with her macbook when it did this.  We are using direct connections to the computers usb ports, the cables are new, ituens is newly updated on all pc's...
any ideas what the problem is??

    Resolved!
After contacting Apple, I received a reply from their engineers:
    Copy QTMovieWin.dll from:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    to: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
    And that did the trick.

  • My ipod (6th gen nano) is not being recognized

I was moving some music on to it, decided to update itunes, and the moment it updated my ipod stopped being recognized. I've uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, restarted the ipod, and restarted the computer- all, multiple times. Thoroughly unimpressed and not sure how to get this working. Please help?

    Hi, SFletches.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your device is not recognized by iTunes, I would recommend the steps in the article below.  Start with the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > If the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is not listed > Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8.

  • IPod Classic 5th Gen (30 GB) not being recognized by Windows 7 Vista Netbook.

My iPod isn't being recognized I tried everything . Reinstalling Itunes. Resetting Ipod. Putting it in Disk mode. everything. I plugged it up to my school's mac desktop and it syncs and everything. On my Windows it doesn't even show up as mass storage device or anything. It's annoying. I just want to listen to music.
Is there a driver or something?
My friend said Registry fix, but i doubt it.
When I try to update driver, it says the most recent one has been updated.
    This *****.
    Please help

When you plug in the iPod does it even appear in Device Manager?  See this article for more details.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1496
Otherwise, I have a feeling that the USB ports on the Netbook don't output enough power to allow the iPod to fully communiate properly with the Windows Vista O/S.

My IPad is not appearing in ITunes on my computers (IMac and MacBook Air). Troubleshooting didn't help. USB works fine. Cord works when I am charging. IPad is not showing on my computer and not charging from it.

  • 1st gen ipad - charging not supported with this accessory - help?!

my ipad has recently stopped recognizing my original wall charger... i have tried other chargers and cables, cleaning the connections, charging on a dock (which never charged it in the first place, but i thought it was worth a shot!) if i leave it plugged in it slowly climbs a few percent, but i doubt if i left it plugged in for a solid week it would ever get to 100%
i'm currently trying to rest my ipad as well and the internet connection i have here in nunavut is painfully slow to say the least, it never goes further than about 3-400 MB before it times out... and of course i can't recall the passcode to unlock the restrictions to do it manually :S
    anyone have any ideas?
    thanks in advance!!

This usually indicates a problem with the dock connector on the bottom of the iPad.  If you haven't already tried, try gently brushing it with a clean, dry toothbrush and blowing on it with a can of compressed air.  Also closely examine it for any bent pins that may be shorting.  If no joy, make an appointment with the Genius bar at a nearby Apple store to have it examined.

  • 5th Gen 80GB is not being recognized by Windows/iTunes

Alright guys, here's my situation. My iPod has always worked fine. Today I plugged it in like I do every other day. When I plugged it in iTunes did not recognize it and then I got a Windows message that said "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows cannot recognize it." I thought this was strange because NOTHING about my iPod/iTunes had changed whatsoever. Next, I was prompted to update to the latest version of iTunes so I thought, "Oh dummy, that was the problem, you had an old version of iTunes." Wrong. I updated iTunes and STILL no recognizing of my black beauty. Next I turned to the Apple website to see what it said. I tried all of the options except "restore" because I refuse to lose my collection on my iPod. I have also tried using a different USB port, but that wasn't the problem. Reminder: the iPod is not recognized under the Device manager. So now I turn to my brothers here to help me solve my problem.

Try a different cable and if that fails, see if it is recognised in another computer, if youre ipod is still within warranty send it back to apple, it may be the dock connector.
Good luck and welcome to the boards
    Joe
