My 2-week Old MacBook Pro 15" w/ Retina Display, 2.3GHz, 16GB RAM, 512GB (Late 2013)

Coming from Windows since 3.1 and 3.11, and having continually used Windows almost every day of my life for the past 17 or more years, I have some thoughts to share about my new MacBook Pro (Late 2013 - quad-core):
It's amazing. It's perfection. It's the best laptop I've ever seen and used.
Thanks, Mr. Jobs for your dedication before passing into oblivion.
Before I ever used Macintosh, I always talked bad about that. (You know, "ewww.... not a Mac! THEY SUCK!")
I guess we're all ignorant at one time or another.
May Tim Cook share Steve Jobs' philosophy and vision for future development of future products
And I love your new iPad Air (I have the 32GB wifi model). But seriously... your iPhone 5 *****.
Thanks.
Sincerely,
Matthew

Sounds like you've solved your own problems- give yourself 10 points.

  • Replacing my 2 week old Macbook Pro.

i've had my MacBook Pro for about 2 weeks now
within the first week i noticed problems with my display, well lid.
it has bubbles on the top of the lid, the edge of the screen is popped out, and the lid won't close evenly
now, if i go to an Apple Store and tell them my problems with a 2 WEEK OLD MACBOOK PRO,
will they replace my current MacBook Pro? or will they just replace the screen?
and i do have Apple Protection Plan for 3 years..

well is it possible for them to fix it there?
oh and how long could that take for them to send it to apple?
sorry if im in anyway pushy or something
its just this is my first macbook pro and i dont want to be going back and forth to the apple store whch is an hour away from me.. thank you

  • My 1 week old macbook pro battery is dying.

my 1 week old macbook pro battery is dying. i charged it to 100% then went to bed and this morning it is at 32% when turned on. What the heck?

my light does not flash in sleep mode.
Which means it isn't sleeping. Run the Console and put the computer sleep. Experiement with the sleep command and closing the lid. Does it sleep with the sleep command but not the lid? Does it not sleep in either case. In the Console, by default, you'll see all the messages that are logged. Pay attention to when you close the lid or execute the sleep command and pay attention to the log entries that occur at that time and shortly afterwards. You might find a sleep terminated type message which will give you a clue about why it isn't sleeping.
There are also programs that are known to cause insomnia. At the head of my list are all it one printer software because the drivers often constantly look for an incoming fax or the keypress from the AIO printer console.
One more thing - if you have been putting it to sleep and then disconnecting USB or FireWire devices - that's the problem.

  • New Macbook Pro 15' with Retina Display Keeps Freezing Completely

Last week I got a Late 2013 Macbook Pro 15' with Retina Display (currently running OS X Mavericks 10.9.1) . However since last Thursday it keeps freezing. It usually happens 2-4 times in a day. The entire computer will freeze completly, I'll be unable to move the cursor with the trackpad and the keyboard freezes up as well. The only way to ameliorate the problem is by shutting down the computer by pressing down on the power button and then turning it back on. When my Mac starts up again it works completely normally. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I recently read that this was happening to some 13' Mac's (until Apple fixed it) however I haven't been able to find information regarding the same problem on a 15' Mac. Thanks in advance!

Mine isn't new model of retina mbp.
Now I'm re-installing 10.9 and I want to try it for some times.
However my mac is out of warranty and if it is a hardware problem there are no solutions for me (logic board change costs $1.000 or so).
After reinstalling 10.9, if I'll not resolve, I want to try to change thermal grease for GPU and CPU...

Just brought home newly purchased MacBook Pro 15"/Maverick/Retinal Display. To my astonishment, there is NO DVD slot! No one in the store told me about this missing feature. Intolerable, How does one install software? Insert CDs to copy for iTunes?Do I have to purchase an external DVD drive? Is one even available? What a crock!

I’ve owned Macs since 1990 (IICX my first), mostly desktops. Having had DVD/CD drives in all my previous laptop Macs since 2001 -  (2) G4 Powerbooks,  A 17” Mac Book Pro - and also inspecting a friend’s year-old Mac Book Pro which had the DVD slot - unless someone told me at purchase, I had no reason to know that the Retina display version of the 15” had NO DVD drive. ANYHOW, I fully intended to buy the non-Retina display version, because it was cheaper. Unfortunately by the time I got to the Apple store they were no longer selling the non-Retina display version; all versions were ONLY with the Retina display. And the fine distinction of a DVD vs. a non-DVD drive was not pointed out. So now I have to shell out an additional $80 bucks for an external SuperDrive.

  • Pink color cast on macbook pro 15" with retina display

    Hi,
I just got my very first apple computer a few weeks ago, but I had a annoying pink color cast of the display.
I changed my first deivce but even the 2nd had the same issue..
I noticed, that even the Apple logo shines in a pink cast, so it seems to be an issue of the display light itself.
Trying to calibrate the display with a spyder did not work, i got a very strange green color cast what seems to be clear, if the main problem is not the display itself,
    but the display light.
I went to the Apple Sore in Hamburg and I found out, that all new macbook pros 15" with retina display had the same issue, but not older macbooks or some  macbook pro 15" with retina display from clients.
As a photographer, I find this pink cast very annoying and I gave back my 2nd macbook pro 15" with retina display..
Is there a way, to get a macbook pro 15" with retina display without a pink cast, where the Apple logo shines in pure white instead of a pink color cast?
I don´t want a pink apple logo, nor a display with a pink cast..

    WOW 0_o
Go back and get another one.. They will certainly try and make your day better by offering free items, try to get Apple Care free.
In all my time as being a technician I am going to have to put you on a list I have prestigiously placed for situations like these.
List of multiple repeat post-replaced failures.
Basically.. It's a list of all the people that have had to get a computer / part replaced and received the same issue again after the replacement.
    HERE IT IS:
3x Logic board replacement (Warranty). I had to replace three logic boards for this one poor sod that had the same issue over and over again. In the end Apple gave him a whole new computer.
"" Same as above but happened to my friend the other day ""

  • Memory Issue on a  2013 MacBook Pro 15-inch retina display.

I have an early 2013 MacBook Pro 15-inch retina display. It has 16 GB of memory of 8GBs each in two memory slots.   I am starting to get notices saying I am running short of memory. Can more memory be added?

I am starting to get notices saying I am running short of memory.
You can get that warning if your hard drive is too full. Check yours for "free" space. Highlight your hard drive icon and press the space bar to get this screen:

I have a dent on the lid of my MacBook Pro 15 inch Retina Display and I was wondering if there is a chance of replacing the silver lid without taking the complete top lid off?

Sorry, but you will need to make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service. They can answer your question.

  • I am planning on purchasing an Apple 13in MacBook Pro through AAFES online (Army and Airforce Exchange).  Do all MacBook Pro computers without retina display come with a SuperDrive?

Up to the Mid-2012 models, yes.

  • Looking at Refurb MacBook Pro 13" with Retina Display... Which is best for video editing?

    Hi all,
I'm looking at replacing my current 2010 MacBook Pro with something newer. I do quite a bit of video editing with Final Cut Pro X and some webdesign in Dreamweaver CS6 or Wordpress on Chrome. I need something that will be able to render the Final Cut videos. I'm looking at the refurb 2012 MacBook Pro 13" with retina display, an i5 and 8GB of ram, OR a 2013 13" with 4GB of ram and the Intel Iris Graphics... Which is better? I've heard really great things about the Intel Iris Graphics, but is having the 8GB of RAM more important?
    Thanks for your help!

I would think if you are going to run both of those programs at the same time, or even one at a time, a system with discrete graphic would be a better fit for you.
The next question is if you are doing web design do you really need a retina display. At this time only apple has them so everyother computer viewing your web designs wouldn't see the difference, if there is any to begin with.

  • Macbook Pro 13" with Retina Display for Photography work

    Hi All,
I'm looking at buying a Macbook Pro 13" with Retina Display with the following specs.
    2.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
    Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz
    8GB 1600MHz memory
    256GB PCIe-based flash storage
    Intel Iris Graphics
    Built-in battery (9 hours)
I need to use this mainly to edit RAW images as I'm a photographer and will be using this whilst onsite during a photoshoot. I have been advised that due to the graphics card, when using software like Photoshop, the laptop might slow down as it won't be able to handle the large files.
The only one that has a good graphics card is the MacBook Pro 15-inch: 2.5GHz with Retina display - with the following specs.
    2.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
    Turbo Boost up to 3.7GHz
    16GB 1600MHz memory
    512GB PCIe-based flash storage
    Intel Iris Pro Graphics
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 2GB
My issue with this model is the size and most of all the price. it costs 1000 more than the 13". Have any of you had the chance to use photoshop on the 13" version and how did you find it?
    Thanks

Go step by step and test.
    1. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own"
    2.Reset PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
If this does not help, you have to take the computer to the Apple store to
    have it checked out.
    Best.

  • Playing xbox 360 on macbook pro 15 inch retina display with hdmi

Is it possible to be able to plug my xbox360 into my macbook pro 15 inch retina display with the hdmi cable and then play it on my computer because i have an hdmi cable and dont want to go buy the eye tv for another $150 and if it's not possible does anyone know of another way for me to be able to play my xbox360 on it

No. The HDMI port on the MBP-R is an output port used to send images to an external monitor, not an input port.
As far as I know, the only Mac that has ever had a video input capability is the iMac. Some years' models have had the ability to act as a monitor for another computer. I don't have one, but it doesn't look like current iMacs offer this feature (based on a quick skim of the Apple Store pages).

  • My Macbook pro 15,4 retina display have dense horizontal lines

My Macbook pro 15,4 retina display have dense horizontal lines and one vertical line in left side corner..

Sounds like a GPU, Display or Display connection problem.  An appointment at an Apple store genius bar is the best option.  Your MBP is probably still within the warranty period.
    Ciao.

  • Boot up time of MacBook Pro 13" 2.5GHz i5 vs MacBook Pro 13" with Retina display with 2.4GHz i5

    Hello
    Does anyone know
"the boot up time of MacBook Pro 13" 2.5GHz i5 vs MacBook Pro 13" with Retina display with 2.4GHz i5?"
    Thanks

    A bit simplifying :
there are two parts in boot process - one-before spinning thing, other - spinning thing to desktop.
First part is hardware inits, you can not speed it up. It is for sure longer for your MBP than for her - its normal, more hardware and it is more sophisticated so longer init.
Second part depends on HD (SSD) speed.
Say so - I have M4 SSD and second part is 1 to 2 spins until login window. Should be more or less same for you.
If it is not so - probably something is not good with filesystem and some config files, most probably due to cloning instead of install. Reboot from recovery, repair drive (first - drive as a whole, second - boot partition), then reboot permissions. reboot two times as normal. see what'll happen with timing.
