My 2 year old tapped some keys on my Macbook and now the volume keys at top don't work. If I press F12, the dashboard pops up. How do I get it to work as it used to?

My 2-year-old randomly tapped some keys on my Macbook and now the volume keys at top don't work. For example, if I press F12, the dashboard pops up, whereas previously it used to increase the volume. HELP! I'm a techno nitwit -  how do I get it to work as it used to?

I did this myself recently while playing around with the settings - go to System Preferences and in there somewhere will be a setting saying - " use all function keys as standard function keys" or something like that. You need to deslect or say "no" and then it will work as it used to!

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone (if you're using iOS 7), then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

Connect it to the computer you sync with and Restore it in iTunes from your backup.

You don't... If you restore the backup, it will restore the restrictions passcode.
Do you have your contacts, calendar, etc, synced to your computer? I'm not asking if you backed up, I'm asking if you synced... In other words, if you open Outlook, or Windows Address Book (I'm assuming you use a PC) are your contacts there?
If you have not been syncing your contacts, etc, you may have to restore so that you can set up the sync, get the contact data off the phone, then set it up as a new phone again, do not restore the backup, and set up the sync with your address book.

I just purchased a Samsung Android cell phone and would like to trade the sim from my new to cell to the zoom so I can have my old cell phone number back. The problem is the sim cards are different sizes. Is this something I can take to a store and get switched out?

    SRCLARK,
Great question! You can go to the store and get a replacement SIM card at the store. Any corporate store will be more than happy to help replacing your card. http://bit.ly/3SdsA

  • Spilled some tea on my laptop and now the backspace key doesn't work!

    Hi All,
So I spilled some tea on my macbook today. All over the ekeyboard. Thankfully everything is working perfectly fine except my BACKSPACE/DELETE key, which I hve come to realize is super important even just writing this message! Does anyone know how I can fix this? Is my computer forever going to be without a functioning backspace key? What can I do? Do you think the apple store can fix it??? HELP ME PLEASE THIS IS SO ANNOYING!

You may be able to 'remap' keys on the MacBook's keyboard, so as to assign a new purpose to one of the keys you'd otherwise not use much anyway; such as the small "Enter" key in the bottom row of the portable; a remap of this should not affect the larger Enter key, so you can re-purpose of the small one so it performs a Delete.
The 'arrow' keys allow a left-direction cursor movement without an erase; sometimes, the FN key can be used to control alternative functions; not sure how complex the commands or assigned functions can be & still work.
There had been a few free remapping apps and guidelines to help Mac owners adjust their built-in keyboard for use with Windows under BootCamp, Parallels, for dual-booting in non-Mac OS X; or other virtualization schemes to use the main keyboard for custom functions. Some of these can be assigned to work in one OS.
The idea of trying a known-good external USB keyboard, to test the computer's hardware beyond the issues you've found troublesome after the built-in keyboard was exposed to liquid, would be best to test the chassis and logic circuits for damages beyond the keyboard assembly.
The built-in keyboard issues where a single key does not function after an immersion or liquid spill event, are unlikely to be cured by simple replacement of a single key-face; and the individual key-switches are not seperate components to be changed out. The keyboard and touchpad can be removed and replaced by a skilled and trained technician. The rest of the MacBook should be inspected and tested for damage, too.
Depending on your exact build model version of MacBook, the keyboard, touchpad, and upper half of the lower case assembly has different parts and construction processes; so some of the online suggestions and YouTube videos posted there by other users may viewed with this in mind. Several upgrades occurred under the skin of these computers; so do the details on how to access or repair/replace internal components.
    The iFixit online instruction pages may have some information on how to replace the built-in keyboard; if your model build version of MacBook is one of those not too extreme for a non-expert to attempt a repair. The warning as intricate details go, usually implies you could do damages inside the computer in addition to the main symptom and issue(s) you initially seek to resolve. Be ware! {Like on old world maps: of dragons, etc.}
You could look through search results to compare videos posted by well-intentioned users, to see which ones may appear to be more like the exact model MacBook you have. A more positive identification of your portable would be required to get correct parts and perform detailed procedures properly. These generally do not have general parts; details inside the MacBook line changed many times over the years its been made.
Several leads appear in a search based on these words in a google browser:
    replace macbook keyboard
Some sticky keys and individual keyface replacements are noted; however if the liquid damaged more than the keyboard you'd have to troubleshoot the computer to know for sure. One way to tell, is to attach an external USB keyboard and see if the actual functions themselves are still working. Liquid can also cause corrosion later on, so a temporary fix may involve a superficial symptom. Other issues may follow later on.

    http://www.ifixit.com/Browse/MacBook
The key itself may have some gunk within the parts, layers are as noted in the first youtube video linked above; but the liquid may have gone on to find places to cause further grief at a later time. Or the symptom you note may imply damage beyond the keyboard already has taken place.
You may have to make an advance appointment to see some genius or product expert, and plan a time to take the unit in. Or contact some place who can do the work, and who are authorized experts, to have them inspect the computer and give you an estimate of the damages and a proper cure. Sorry that I don't have a simple answer; and have already been interrupted here while trying to put together some kind of a reply. Like getting my mind wiped clear more than twice, when someone comes along & starts talking nonsense, while I'm already busy (doing three things) and one more is an overload.
    Hopefully this helps somewhat...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Some keys on keyboard don't work

I got a used MacBook air on eBay and I noticed the some keys on the keyboard don't work as intended.
For example, the '1' key does not work at all, the 'p' key would increase the volume, the 'delete' key would enable capslock.
I've tried to do a clean install of Mac OS X but it would still do the same thing.
    Is my logic board broken?
What else can I try to make sure that the keyboard is the problem and not the software?

    Hello:
    Try resetting the PRAM.
By the way, what tests are you referring to?

  • My 6 year old made some charges on game apps and I would like a refund please

my 6 yr old made charges on my acct.  playing games. I would like a refund please for I didnt authorize them.

Your chances are slim to none for getting a refund I think. You should just log out of the apps store and only log in when you want to purchase something.

  • HT4623 iPad Mini - one year old.  Plugged it in to charge and now it will not power on at all.  I have tried different cables to ensure it was not a faulty cable.  What else can I do?

I have an iPad mini that is exactly one year old.  I plugged it in to charge it.  The next morning it ws completely dead.  I can't get it to come on no matter what I try.  I have tried a different cable to see if my cable was faulty, but  that id not resolve the issue.  No matter what I try, I can not get it to power on.  I cannot get iTunes, nor my computer to recognize it when it is plugged in.
Has anyone else had this issue?  What can I do?  Any help would be appreciated!

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

  • Stop the constant pop-ups telling me to get Firefox 5. Something I use all the time is not compatible with it so I do not want 5.0. I get a box about every hour.

Actually there are two things I use a lot that are not compatible with Firefox 5. I did switch to it and discovered the big problem, so I had to go back to my previous Firefox. One of them that I use constantly for my passwords is Roboform -- I don't remember which one but one of the most recent. I get a box in the middle of my computer about once an hour saying that I should switch to Firefox 5. It is driving me CRAZY. How can I make it stop?
Also, who has to make Roboform and Firefox 5 compatible?

Every add-on developer is responsible for updating their add-on as Mozilla releases new versions of Firefox. Check with Roboform for an update for their Firefox add-on.
You can use the Add-on Compatibility Reporter to try and "fix" that other add-on. <br />
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/ <br />
ACR has worked with every 4.0 extension that I have tried it with on Firefox 5.0 - but there may be some add-ons where it won't work, and the add-on has to actually be modified by the original developer.

  • Was using flags in the split view applying flags to images regardless of selection.  Flag would appear under cursor.  Suddenly they now are only visible when and in the large window.  How do I get this capability back.  It is very useful.

I have been using flags conveniently when using the split view flagfs would appear under the cursor in the filmstrip view.  Now they only are visible when a single image is selected and not in the film strip.  This very convenient feature has suddenly and unexplanedly been lost.  How do I get it back?

How are your metadata settings? For me the flags are still showing. Perhaps you have disabled the flags for the Browser view. Edit your Metadata Presets for the Browser:
Enable "Show Metadata" for the Browser and Viewer, and then click "Edit" and eanble the flag for all Metadata views.
For the Browser you need to edit the "Grid View" settings, expanded and Basic:

  • I updated my old mac Mini to OSX10.5 (Leopard) and installed the latest version of Firefox, only to get a message that it 'is not compatible with this architecture'. Any suggestions on how to get a superior web browser back?

Upgraded old Mac mini (from 10.4 to 10.6) PowerPC G4 Processor, downloaded latest version of Firefox and ran installer, got a dialogue box that said 'not compatible with this architecture', now I don't have Firefox at all, and it is my preferred browser.

Firefox '''4 versions and later do not run on a PowerPC Mac''' and require at least OS X 10.5 and an '''Intel Mac'''.
The''' latest supported version for your os is 3.6.26''' , you can download it from:

That depends on what you define as "good quality".
Honestly I'm not able to find that model on panasonic's website to find out if it is 720p or 1080p, I suspect it's only 720p.
