My 20" cinema Display has a vertical band of grey interferance up the middle of the display

I have a 20" Cinema display that suddenly displays a grey column of interferance up through the moddle of the screen. One post suggested that it was caused by a build up of static in the montor body and that screen cleaning with anti-static may work. It didn't but 10 minutes later the interferance had gone. This could have been coincidental as switching on my computer this morning the grey column is back. Any body any ideas or is this going to waste a lot of time that could be spent earning my living.

What kind of mac?  Can you try using another monitor?  Could either be the monitor or the video card is failing.
Try smc and pram reset but I don't think it will change anything.

    Hello,
Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See [[Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems|this article]] for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).
To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:
#Go to this [http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues Adobe Flash Player Help page].
#Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
#Click on '''Settings''' in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
    # Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel. <br/> <br/>[[Image:fpSettings1.PNG]] <br/>
    # Remove the check mark from '''Enable hardware acceleration'''.
    # Click '''Close''' to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
    # Restart Firefox.
This [http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/help01.html Flash Player Help - Display Settings page] has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.

  • My iPad 1st gen has a large grey stripe in the middle of the screen. Any help would be appreciated

It was not dropped and has no other damage and works fine EXCEPT i cannot view the middle part of the screen.
From other posts and searching the web this seems to be a "KNOWN" 1st Gen issue and I am ot the only one.
Anyone had any luck with getting this solved ??
My solution was I just bought a new iPad 4th Gen because I did not want to be without my favorite device but am discouraged by the fact Apple is NOT commenting on this issue or offering a fix
I am hoping that this 4th Gen did not come with a 2 year expiration date - for almost $800 bucks it should last until I decide - not until it is completely disabled by a manufacturer defect as in what happened with my 1st Gen
I still expect my 1st Gen to work and need any suggestions in dealing with the issue as (OF COURSE) the device is no longer under warranty

    $100 you can buy a replacement screen => http://www.ifixit.com/iPad-Parts/iPad-Wi-Fi-Front-Panel-Assembly/IF180-000?utm_s ource=ifixit_guide&utm_medium=guide_intro&utm_content=required_items&utm_term=ip ad_wi-fi
Then use the guide to swap out the screen => http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing+iPad+Wi-Fi+Front+Panel+Assembly/4174/1
I had a similar issue last year when I bought my new Samsung HDTV. There was a strip of discoloration going down the middle of the screen about 3 inches wide. Samsung replaced the screen as there was nothing that could be done to fix it.
I imagine this means the crystals in the screen are somehow damaged. It may not be your fault, they could have just gone bad from bad manufacturing or whatever. There is software for desktop computers that runs through series of tests for attempting to correct issues with an LCD screen, but it would be difficult to run this software on an iPad screen. I doubt there is an app that does anything similar, but you can check the app store or the Cydia market if jailbroken.
    Good luck

  • Several white spots in the middle of the display, please help!

    Hello!
I've already searched through the discussions and found some people with similiar display issues. But I just had to post this question because I'm panicing.
I turned on my MacBook Pro 1.83 (It's from July '06) today just to notice a white spot at the right center of the display. At first I thought it was just some smear from a fingertipp, but it wouldn't go away. So I changed my wallpaper from the colourful one I have to a solid light grey default wallpaper.
Then I noticed that I have 6 ! spots all forming a circle in the middle of the screen.
I've been treating my MacBook Pro like a baby and mostly at home. Right now I'm using it exclusively at home because it's now semester break for my University. So it wasn't moved. Just sitting on my desk.
Does anybody know if Apple will repair this? I'm still in the first year, obviously and have bought the Care Protection Plan. So I have 3 years.
Some of the people here and on the net seem to have theirs repaired under warranty. But with display, you never know what they'll say.
    Any help and answers appreciated!
    Greetings from Germany.
MacBook White 1,83 Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Early model from July '06

I have now spoken to a local store which does repairs for Apple here.
(Funny thing: in Germany you can't send the Notebooks back to Apple for repairs anymore. You have to go to a Service Provider, which could be a problem outside of big cities.)
He's says it's a known problem which will be covered by the warranty:
so if this happen to any of you, don't panic like me: Apple will repair it.
Now I hope my replacement screen won't have any pixel failures.

I have an iPad Mini which after charging has now frozen with the iCloud Backup text box in the middle of the screen and OK 'button' registers when tapped but remain locked with nothing operating. It is fully charged.

Have you tried a soft-reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • "Bright Spot" in the middle of the display.

    Hello...
A few months ago, my iBook's screen appears to have developed a "bright spot" closer to the middle of the screen. This bright spot appears to be a vertical line that vaguely resembles an exclamation mark. It's definitely not a group of dead or stuck pixels, but it's looks a lot like the "white spots" that some early 15" Aluminum Powerbooks had, maybe not as intense: http://www.apple.com/support/powerbook/displayprogram/
I might want to ask for a screen replacement. But my problem here is: I bought this iBook when it came out last summer in Canada. Right now, I’m not in Canada, and I asked the local Apple Service Center about the warranty. They said that they don’t cover any Mac that wasn’t bought from the region they belong to. This contradicts Apple’s international warranty for its portables.
My question here is: Is my iBook’s screen eligible for replacement in the first place? If it is, how am I supposed to deal with the local Apple Service Center?
    Thanks in advance!
    12" iBook G4 (Mid 2005) Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi Voidness,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I don't know if it will be covered by Apple's One (1) Year Limited Warranty. It says,
"Apple or its Apple Authorized Service Providers will provide warranty service on products that are tendered or presented for service during the Warranty Period, as permitted by law. If the product is portable, meaning that it can operate independently without a power cord, you may obtain warranty service worldwide. However, service will be limited to the options available in the country where service is requested."
You may want to call Apple and see what an Apple representative says.

    Hello,
Take a screen shot & view that in Preview, move the Preview window around, if you see double lines it's a Video card/VRAM problem, if the lines do not move moving the pic around then it's the LCD or cable.

  • HT3964 my imac 27 display has 5 blue lines and does not boot up what is the problem?

My Imac 27 displays 5 blue vertical lines and does not boot up.  What could cause this?

I already anticipated the video card causing this issue.  This was confirmed today by Apple issuing a campaign indicating the AMD Radeon 6970M video cards are defectivce and will be replaced free of charge three years from date of purchase.  I looked at the new iMacs and found repairing them to be a nightmare.  So, once this p.o.s. is repaired, I'm selling it and purchasing an ABA computer.
